personally, I don't feel it got any better than 1.36;)
what sort of temps people getting here? I'm getting 37 - 43C in windows, not really doing anything atm using 3000winchester @ stock. And a XP-90 cooler w/ 92mm fan. 5000rpm one (stock zalman w/ the zalman bracket fan, put on top)
I find the temps a bit high, im using 1.36beta bios.
The cooler itself however is particually cool, I even stopped the fan and felt the cooler for a minute. Odd.
Much the same as you temp wise.
I ignored that ages ago.
I read over on OCUK, where someone put a diode under his water block on the chip, and that read approx 10 degrees lower than the 40 odd he had.
I get idel temps of 38C according to BIOS.well today my temp probes arrived.ive got one under the socket and one between the maze4 and cpu and both are reading 28-29C idle so that near enough 10C less than BIOS.
guys, where do i get the latest beta-BIOS for the Neo2? :)

1.37 ? Does that change anything.
btw doesnt the neo2 have hardware firewall built into it like the dfi ut 250gb?
didn't all nF3 250/Gb/Ultra have HW-FW onboard?
if so, where do I find/activate it?
good question....
On the DFI, it becomes available when you activate the on-board LAN function. Then when you install the nForce drivers it will ask you if you want to activate the firewall and give you an HTML interface on your desktop allowing you to configure the settings. I'm sure the MSI is the same ?
I don't know, I don't think I've activated the lan, yeah I installed the realtek drivers for it, but I guess you mean setting up a new network using windows?
I never installed the nvidia ide sw when I installed the nforce drivers, but I installed the rest.
My board is meant to have it, my drivers don't seem to have initialised it.
I dont need the d-bracket for this do I? Cause I never recieved one as I bought my msi board OEM. ;(
Enable the Nvidia MAC in the bios , when you get into windows look for the Nvidia folder (default normally c:\Nvidia) navigate to this folder \nForceWin2KXP\5.10\Ethernet\NAM and run setup.
That will install NAM (network access manager) which will allow you to enable/edit the firewall.
sorry to sound noob, but where abouts in the bios will the nvidia MAC be?Quote:

Any sort of nforce driver remover so I can use the 5.10?
Nvidia MAC option is in intagrated peripherals under PCI devices? i think.
You should be able to just install the new 5.10's over the old ones without issue, atleast i never had a prob doing it before.
yeah it was on [Auto] in bios,
installed 5.10s, firewall is there now. Set on medium, is this OK?
Yeah your right.Quote:

one question: i'll receive my Neo2 + 3200 WC tomorrow....i think it does, but i want to ask some of you guys, who have the config Neo2 + 90nm already:
does the Neo2 recognize/accept a 90nm-CPU....i mean with the Stock-BIOS on it....because, i don't have any other S939-CPUs here....and it would just be a anoing problem....

If your MB comes with bios v1.1, initially there is an issue with dual channel memory support. My system didn't want to post with 2 memory sticks installed. One can avoid this problem by using initially just one stick. After bios flash you can add your second memory stick.
Bios versions 1.2 and later, support winchesters fully AFAIK. Perhaps boards which are now in retail channel have latest bios version. Who kows, you can get lucky .
Seen a few users on that forum do the same.
Such as here..
I didn 't know about the issues with the Winchester chip and the Mobo when I re-built my system. I sure found out quick. The first thing that I found out was that it didn't like my dual channel mem. I could only get the board to boot with my two sticks if I just loaded the green slots.
There seems workrounds for all socket 939 boards and winchesters except the ABIT. The ABIT needs a BIOS update to boot.
Also not sure on Gigabyte. (or haven't read it yet)
I can't guarantee what BIOS your mobo will ship with tho.

Hi everyone!...
I got my MSI Neo2 Platinum, running fine. But, I've a strange cold power on.
When I want to switch on the system, (PSU power on) my Motherboard power on the FANs from CPU and... the VidCard FAN. System don't power on until I push the power switch case on.
wierd isn't it?
:-?
How can fix it?
dunno wolf, thats weird.
i have a question for everyone with the board.
at what cpu temperature do you start to see instability?
i see it at 60c + using the core cell program.
I have seen a person with this problem (more than one in fact)Quote:

False Start For Me As Well !!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
I've just bought and tried 3 different Antec Neopower power supplies on my MSI Neo2 Platinum motherboard (AMD Nforce3, socket 939) and I still experience the same problem :
Everytime I switch on my computer I hear the fans working, the disks starting but the power led remains off and if I do nothing the screen remains black. I have to hit the power button one more time in order to startup my computer. I do not have this problem when I restart the computer from windows. Moreover I could see that when I unplug the power connectors of my 2 raptors I do not have the problem, the system is starting the first time I switch it on (I tried different cables of course). I also removed the power supply from the case but it's still the same.
Precision : I NEVER had this kind of problem with my former Tagan 480W.
As I already tried with 3 different Neopower power supplies I now ask you for help. Please try to answer me as soon as possible.
So try it with the min amout of stuff connected, and if it fixes the problem it may well be ya PSU.
Seen others have similar with PS2 stuff, so try booting it without.

so what is the best board right now for the 939 platform? im fixxin to buy a fx-53 and im clueless as to what im going to get? i wish the DFI 939 board would get here i hate to buy something only to replace it when DFI finaly releases thier counter part to the 754 mb the got out now. also do any of these 939 mb's give you any high v-dimm options like the DFI 250UT board?

The one that this thread is about unil NF4 boards start coming out. I don't think DFI will be out till Dec. Highest bios vdim option of any of the 939 boards is about 2.85 which is max for tccd anyway.Quote:

So... if you want to get this board, think twice.
You've gotta be kidding ... it does not require a lot of effort or time to push on a little button.Quote:
So... if you want to get this board, think twice.
Is not that easy, this problem eventually shuts the VidCard down... while you system is ON.
I've got the 754 board but have similar power issues
1) Machine boots up just flicking the power switch on the wall without the proper switch from the motherboard
2) False start 1 as mentioned in the thread... machine spins up the fans for 1 or 2 seconds and then dies
3) False start 2 as mentioned in the thread .. machine spins up fans but no screen image.
I had an MSI board as a replacement, my first one worked fine. The replacement did the above. I sent it back and got another, the replacement did the same. I left it in disgust and a few days later gave it one last time and it worked fine. It now works fine all the time as well, but i have had some troubles before this last good spell.
Having read the thread I notice a lot of GF 6800 cards being used. Interestingly, looking back at it, when my replacement board arrived I was using the 6800, but when I gave up with it I put the 6800 in my P4 and used it there. When it booted up after a few days it probably had my Fx 5800 in there. Now i have tested it since with the 6800 but I have had some troubles, at present the FX 5800 is in there and it seems OK
To be honest I cannot quite definitely match up when the 6800 was in there and when it was not and when it had these strange boot problems.
The only thing I can do is try 10 boots tonight with FX 5800 and then 10 with the 6800 and see if stability goes.
Can someone else with the problem and different video cards do likewise ? This will show if this theory is a false start ( cough, pardon the pun :) )
Regards
Andy
hi @ all!
i have got the k8n neo2 platinum last friday. and i did a lot of overclocking. but i have some problems:
system:
AMD FX 53
K8N Neo2 Platinum Bios: 1.36 beta
2x512 MB OCZ 4200 EL (G.SKILL is on the way)
ATI X800XT
OCZ Powerstream 520
Asetek LightSpeed 240W
i had read this thread again and again. so i did my bios-tweaks.
ht 3x
spreadspektrum disabled
dynamic overclocking disabled
agressiv timings disabled
sata 1+2 disabled
ect.
so i started. comming to 255x11 everythings works fine. 2 hours prime were not a problem. comming to 260x11 prime goes only 10 to 15 minutes. ok, no problem... lets start superpi, no problem. ok, test: 265x11 superpi: not exant in round. at this time my vcore was 1,7v. ok, lets give him more power. 1,75v and nothing works fine. ok, more power! 1,8v nope... 1,85v nope :(
ok, i thought. vdimm!!!! i still was at 2,70v. vcore down to 1,7v vdimm up to 2,75 nothing went. vcore up, nothing.
then i tested a lot of things. big multi, low htt. high htt, low multi and so on. my result is, that my system wont go over the 2,9ghz. it doesnt matter, which vcore i take or which vdimm. i testet every constelation.
on my abit av8 i was able to run 245x12 24/7. for benchmarking i got 247x12 all @ 1,85v vcore and 2,65v vdimm.
can someone help me?
LoKi2k
p.s.: sorry about my bad english. the last time i used it is 4 years ago at school :(

It's a tight fit with the DDR Booster on Dimm4 & mt ram due to the HS on my ram.
Gonna try my 2 x 512MB XMS3500 that's done 240Mhz DC on the IC7-G & will post my findings when I'm done doing the usual Memtest86/Prime95.
Only problem is that one of my front USB ports ain't working...
So far, using the specs in my 2nd rig, idle temps at 2.53GHz (11 x 230 @ 1.7v [1.55vid + 8.3% boost]) is 35c idle & 53c under Prime95. Tested for 21 hours as well as 5 hours of Memtest86+....
I'll be back with more findings with my 2 x 512MB XMS3500...
Maybe I gotta change the multi to 10.5 & try 250Mhz 1:1 action...

Caper,
So far, just Memtest86+ & the new OCZ MemTest, I've been able to run my 2 x 512MB sticks at 2-2-2-6-1T @ 11 x 230 (2.53Ghz). I ran that test for 1 & 1/2 hours w/out any problems.
Trying 10.5 x 242 (2.54GHz) 1:1 @ 3.3v (DDR Booster) w/out any problems so far. Gonna let the test run overnight & then do a Prime95 run while I'm at work tomorrow.
Got the CoolerMaster Hyper6 with 2 fans (1 blowing, 1 sucking) as I need 1.7v for my CPU to be stable....
One thing that's got me going is that CPU-Z reports my 3500 as a 130nm whereas Memtest (both the original & OCZ;s one) reports it as a 90nm part????
Any ideas?? My thinking is that it's a minor bug with Memtest although I'm hoping it's a CPU-Z bug & I've got a 90nm CPU...
Will update during the next few days to see how high my BH5 will go with these AMD64 S939's...
Looking Good so far... Gotta test 10 x 250 1:1 to see how my 512Mb sticks go... Took 3.4v on an Intel system to do 240MHz... Taken 3.3v to do 242MHz on AMD64 POWER!!!
Keep you updated... :toast:
Sounds like the extra power load the 6800's are pulling may be a strain on the PS. I have a 6800U and a PCPC510 with no issues. maybe lower rated or even non tweaked rail PS's could be a factor.Quote:
