This proves that AMDs serverchipsets got clocking potential.... with the right motherboard and software even XtremeSystems will be able to enjoy AMDs new toys!
As someone said before :banana::banana::banana: gainsy go go go Magny-Cours!
I'm so looking foward of getting one :slobber:
Mc to xs wcg crunchers giveout :wasntme:?
If a company releases a dual-socket system based on C32 or G34 (like the old unsupported Asus L1N64-SLI) I can see many people buying it with this kind of overclocking.
That he so easily overclocked he's Magny-Cours with some unsupporting software is nothing short of amazing, really proves that this new chipset is something.
Hell even I would get a dual-socket system with 2 x 6 or 2 x 12 cores to toy with and do folding  :ROTF:
AMD Skulltrail anyone?:D
Thank you s7e9h3n and justapost!
Excellent results! 3GHz 12-core CPU is beyond awesome!
I wonder what was TDP for it at that speed :p:
Cores alone are scaling with voltage and clock a tad better than Phenoms II which means some improvement in silicon. I hope this will be translated to Rev-C3 on the desktop side as well ...
^^^ +1.... :D
This thread is incredible.. I'm an old timer and I never really doubted AMD's ability to come back, this just solidifies my faith, and it's even done at 45nm. :yepp:
Thanks for all the info s7e9h3n, I'm sure we'll all be waiting for your return from vacation... :p:
No chance of any type of ETA for this is there?
I want to get saving for it, Ive already got the second cpu block to add to my loop and all.
Please run 3D mark 06-s CPU test @ 3,2GHz! :P Or Vantage CPU test.
trying bench 3ghz at vcore 1,1v? very impressive
Very interesting, any 4Ghz overclocks That is something I like to see.
12 core = 12 threads FTW
lol, this is ace, its like Quad core is just history now, I would like a 6-12 core CPU but idk the prices? It would be nice to switch back to AMD, and they normally have the best bang/buck ratio on their products IMO.
screw CB... give us results for Frybench: http://randomcontrol.com/index.php?o...=140&benchid=1
Wow Stephen,
this is incredible
Was looking forward to a Dual Gulftown, but now I may just get the AMD instead (or on top, I am a cruncher after all :D )
Hey, how about a trade? I'll give you my Quad Socket AMD and you give me that Dualie.. 4 CPus for 2, I think that's a fair deal :D :wasntme:
If you by any chance could run a BOINC benchmark/some WCG WUs that would be awesome (so I can spend sleepless nights on calculating the PPD per machine :p: )
I'm Speechless
lol, somebody just came back from the future with a CPU and is teasing us all.
Seeing that many cores that can run at that speed already is one heck of a good sign.
This is just the holy thread of core ownage. Too much awesomeness in 5 pages.
What mobo you using? So this thing isn't going to be AM3 is it? I miss when AMD had Opterons you could drop in your 939. They cost more yeah but they were solid and fancy stuff.
lol, someone hasn't read the last 5 pages...
The motherboard is a socket G34 board, using a new ES chipset and ES CPUs. These 12 core processors are not going to be available on anything but the new sockets coming out early next year, May 10th I think. This first version of the 12-cores are 2 Istanbul CPUs glued together. The new chipset finally has some of the fun new features available on it compared to the super old Nvidia 3600 chipsets out today for servers. Things such as the changed PLL stuff to allow good overclocking, IO virtualization, HT3 support, and probably GPU virtualization as well that was just demonstrated by AMD.
Thank you s7e9h3n!!!! Awesome info and awesome results! I've never lost faith in AMD and never will. Your thread just proves that faith is not placed wrong. Not one bit :yepp:
Time to start saving cash for one of those beasts. What is one kidney worth these days? Cause i'd give one for one of those rigs :D
Have a safe trip to Europe mate and return fast so we can see more of this "holy grail" from AMD. :)
would like to see consumer market with dual G34 board for PC
Very good read indeed. I wonder what intel is now thinking about their next released cpu now. Always a welcome to see amd stepping back into the picture once again. As in the end we the consumers when then.
Somebody pinch me.......:p:
Thanks s7e9h3n for sharing!!!!!!
Very exciting. Anyone have some solid info on when the new motherboards drop? Same launch frame as the desktop kit or before? My debit card sits in wait.
Over at AMDZone, John Fruehe let everybody know that server boards are not overclocking boards; what we know now is that they seem to respond a bit better than your Nvidia-based board to software tweaking. I have high hopes for you when you get this new AMD chipset in hand.
I think you'll be looking at December or January before you can get one in hand. I read that either here at AMDZone. All this AMD info has made everything a blur to me.
So any news on new multiple core chips that won't cost $2k+ for the non server market? New FX line hrmmmm?
Whats the news of a socket change for the desktop? Is it staying AM3 for a while longer or is it getting a change as well? Maybe it will use the C32 socket? That would certainly be convenient, then we could use these 12-core CPUs easily without having to buy the high end server boards that cost a bunch of money. But still as Glow said, would be nice if a "desktop" version came out that was cheaper.
MB Brand : AMD
MB Model : Dinar
NB : AMD SR5690 rev 02
SB : ATI SB750 rev 00
awesome
I guess the Intel fanboys on futuremark cant handle the news......getting alot of dumb responses over there They are trying to downplay it...........its like a flashback of those people saying quads werent needed they went and bought dualies and were crying a few months later.
This is crazy.. I am speechless!!!
damn got to love multicore goodness :D im sure intel has few tricks in its sleeve too
Do you know if current cpu water blocks will fit the G3 socket?
Hi all,
Just arrived in Europe today. I had a few friends link me to articles questioning the validity of my screenshots - if they are fake or not. In no way shape or form is anything I've posted EVER been fake  Here's a peek at the board:
http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/5619/dinardp1.jpg
When I get back, I'll prove without a doubt this setup is the real deal ;)
No worries--you've got supporters here. There is no need to prove yourself to anyone. If they want to think it's all fake, I say let em. It's their loss.
Now, on the other hand, we'd all still love to see more pictures and stuff. :)
We won't complain as long as you keep posting more info. :D
Nice looking board, 8mem slots/cpu.
Btw where are you at in Europe?
lol, same old Opteron cooler. You should put some big aftermarket coolers on those CPUs and see how fast you can get them without running into heat problems :)
Thanks again for all the pictures.
That's a little low for a quad core system.
I was hoping to see 2.4GHz at least but at least there is hope for more.
If you're back, try something to bring the NB Clock up.
And interessting to see that it seems that AMD uses the same (crappy) Coolers they use since they broght the socket 754 and 940...
Stefan Payne:lol man, do u read this thread? This CPU is not Quadcore, but 12-core Magny Course...Go back to page one and read! ,-)
Looks fake to me... I move to ban s7e9h3n FOR EV ER!
and it is not a quad socket either lol
its dual socket
That depends on the point of view.
It's a dual socket but 4 processor system (maximum is 4 socket).
I don't see what the controversy is.. 8 cores are on the horizon, it only makes sense that a bit over the horizon you've got 12 and 16 cores.
But I think the era of the CPU is coming to an end, It won't be that long before CPU's come bundled with hundreds of less-functional cores, and the CPU's will be there for legacy code and to handoff execution to the little cores. It'll take people years just to get past the psychology of 700Mhz*100cores < 500Mhz*200cores.
Ohh the drama..
We're on the way for that, take a lok at OpenCL and the compute shaders of D3D11 and, of course, AVX...
But you can't use the graphics card for everything...
Tbh i see that as a good thing. It means those old crappy coolers r good enough to keep these babies cool enough.
And like Gomeler said. AMDs stock coolers suck but Intels stock coolers arent any better. But then again its the main reason i havent used either in years. Even on builds for others i always spend the few bucks extra for a cheap ass AC Freezer.
OK, that's right
Also you don't need any new coolers for that socket.
That the TDP may not be higher than on a single processor socket system is something i don't like.
I was hoping AMD would go for about 200W but that seems to be a bit high and hard to cool...
Yes, you may see it that way.
ok I think you are confused
this is a socket
http://techreport.com/r.x/dfi-855gme-mgf/socket479.jpg
this is a processor
http://www.pcgameshardware.com/scree...om-2-front.jpg
and here 4 cores on a die
http://elnexus.com/mail/07-09-barcelona.jpg
So on that motherboard theres 2 sockets
http://techreport.com/r.x/dfi-855gme-mgf/socket479.jpghttp://techreport.com/r.x/dfi-855gme-mgf/socket479.jpg
2 processors
http://www.pcgameshardware.com/scree...om-2-front.jpghttp://www.pcgameshardware.com/scree...om-2-front.jpg
and 12 cores on each processor, theres 2 processors, thats 24 cores, 2 processors and 2 sockets, there is not 4 sockets on this motherboard:wth:
Also just in case a die is not a socket
You guys have it all wrong.
This is a socket.
http://www.alloy-artifacts.com/Photo...pped_inset.jpg
and this is a processor.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41MZ6EJ0S9L.jpg
I gots me 15 sockets
http://www.lunabazaar.com/ProductIma...erns_10&15.jpg
I really LOLed at that one...
nice to have you bak Mr s7e9h3n
So do u all mean that
This is a socket
http://regmedia.co.uk/2005/07/14/flangello.jpg
and that this is a processor
http://www.uphaa.com/uploads/390/3.jpg
Or are they fruit??
....And some really interesting new here?:)
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=688110
How did you get the voltage to show in the validation?
And a BIG welcome back Stephan, AMD's missed you :)
lool had good laugh here :D especially fruits =) to use 24 cores is much better than having an orgasm? :D
CPU-Z 1.52.0+ shows the voltage in validation shots.
http://www.filehippo.com/download_cpuz/
Shows when last I had a result worth posting :(
Damn crazy CPU there! 16 cores @ +3Ghz.. just amazing!
Exactly, AMD was loud about their quads being the first true quads.
True but these aren't quads, and their 6cores were true 6 cores.
Also this is an ES, so far each time they launched a chip is a proper one. Who knows maybe the 12cores will be a proper one when launched.
I think it's too soon for true 12 core CPUs to be near. On 45nm it's going to be a HUGE die.
that was hector though wasn't it ?
MCM would have been cheap but 65nm just sucked anyways.
they're already trying to play that one off, it was harder for amd to do true quad at 65 nm Intel didn't do it because they didn't want to, because they needed more die space of hyper threading so they didn't make one till 45nm.
Ah well, I don't care if it's MCM or a True. I care about performance and so do many.
If it performs and has a good price I'll buy it. Specially looking at it's clocking potential so far, it seems that buy some cheap 1.7Ghz chips might pay off well.
No, Intel did it because they could, AMD couldn't put 2 dice on a package, that would really suck.
You remember the cheapest S940 Dual Opteron Boards where only one CPU had direct acces to the memory?!
And someone did Dual Single Core Opteron vs single dual core Opteron, the single dualcore was almost everywhere faster.
AMD just DID put two dies on one package though.
Can you please tell is where you've been for the past year? :D
could you take a close up shots of that cpus?
please?
wow 12 core clocking!!!
welcome back s7 :D
