more than 1.5V on air seems to be high for 24/7 running, but 1.425 should be OK
Printable View
The voltage itself is not too bad, Phenom II's can probably take 1.5v-1.55v safely for 24/7 use. The issue is keeping them cool at that voltage, best below 55c load which is where it seems stability starts to nose-dive for me anyways.
Heat is the killer. I ran my x3 at 1.5 for two months with no issues but I have great load temps. As long as you can keep your temps in check, I wouldn't worry about 1.5v vcore. You might not even that much voltage unless your going for 4+ghz
cool, thx for the quick responses guys.
c_buzz can you please add me to the list? Thanks.
Has anybody figured out how to get core temps on a unlocked 550BE?

Anyone successfully unlock x2 550BE on a GD70?
http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/8930/93896141.jpg
Manage to unlock to 4 cores.. :P
But very very unstable...
Temp shot up to 71C once all 4 core unlocked...
Using 1.44B bios..
Btw.. i'm using default cooler.. Fellow members who unlock all 4 cores n stable.. u guys using default cooler or?
I'm using the default cooler too, and the temps hit about 71 like you said. That's the cpu temp and not the core temp, though so I'm guessing the cores are hitting about 63 or so tops (about 8 degree difference when running two cores). AMD lists that the processor can handle up to 70, so hopefully with an aftermarket cooler I'll be able to run this at 4 cores.
Hi
I managed to unlock my 550 with a M4A78-E using bios 1104. In my previous post I wasnt able to do this but its very unstable I get graphical glitches.
I did manage to run prime95 and all cores seem to work ok. Im sure its just a bios update for this motherboard, Im emailing ASUS as we speak to see if they can rectify this problem.
Mind you, Its took 3 emails to ASUS as they dont know how to enable or find the unleash mode!!
C-Buzz.. i think u got my info wrong :)
It's MSi 790FX-GD70 - 1.4b4 BIOS - Success :)
Btw.. anyone can recommend a good CPU cooler?
U guys using default coolers or?
Yeah not sure how that happened  I refuse to use that sad looking stock cooler. Here is my modified S939 Opteron cooler:

Oh ok.. then u can put it as partial success :P
Any way the mobo model is wrong too..
Now gonna source for a good cooler to make it stable.

Is this the latest bios? Did you try with 3/6/2009 and failed to unlock ??
I just found out that a new bios is out 2009-06-17
After trying for a couple of times, finally got the extra 2 cores stable. The reason y last time it was so unstable was becoz of the extremely high temps (idling in BIOS was @ 70+C).
A very very big thanks to Jingz83 for loaning me a True 120 and AMD brackets. Now finally got it stable. Now wif slight overclocking. Gonna try higher later....
So far my 1st ever AMD journey is quite successful :P

Anyone tried this on a Biostar TA790GX XE? That board has me intrigued. SB750 on mATX? (we don't get Jetway and DFi here :( )
There's a new batch 0922CPMW.. anyone tried this batch?
whats the cheapest amd/ati chipset board that has acc and unlocks???!!!!
cheapest amd/ati chipset ;) :P
so something like Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P?
would 790x with SB750??
GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P is the cheapest gigabyte ddr2 board with acc.
aww guess ill have to shell out the extra Ł20 :( cheers tho :)

I have a 720BE as well and I find this proc a better OCer and it *seems* to run a little cooler...
Same problems for me with Win7/ Vista thou: Sleep just won't work. :( System either hangs or shuts down when trying to wake it up. .. kind of a bummer really.
Also, occasionally I need to do multiple hard resets to get it to post (with both 720 and 550) when unlocking when first turning on my machine, or changing BIOS settings - after it 'warms up' and I get past the "Overclocking Failed!" screen, it boots fine.
Any of you other mobo users out there have these problems? I'd like to know if it's mobo specific as I also can't seem to O/C very well on this platform.
Besides the problems, I love this 550 - it reminds me of the fun I had with my celery 300a.
Has anyone tried unlocking 0924EPMW i got this today but i cant try it until i get my motherboard.
Everest temps are working here updated to .1771 Beta

Yeah Ive had this board for a few months now and my 'conclusion' is that this board (with current BIOS - who knows things may get better later?) is not a good choice for unlocking - or even overclocking. I can unlock these procs and keep a stable system, but only after alot of dicking around with the BIOS - and even then problems still exist. It's my opinion as what Ive come across online and my own personal experience that it could just be a BIOS issue. But I don't have anything to directly compare it to, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
I wanted to get some opinions any of the Gigabyte boards that alot of people seem to be using. Maybe their implementation of ACC is better??
Can anyone say if they have the reset-until-POST problem and the Sleep issue with the Gig board?
If not, it may be upgrade time... :)
Hi guys a slight update on my situation with the 550BE.
As you may or may not know, I have a 0919EMPW and had a Gigabyte MA790XT UD4P along with 4GB of Corsair DDR3 (Both RMA'd). Personally I didn't like the board and I don't think it liked me :p:
Well anyway seeing as its payday for me I went ahead and ordered another 550BE and a Biostar TA790GX XE to see if:
A) My original chip will unlock
B) My new chip will unlock (I'm not sure what to expect)
C) If the Biostar TA790GX XE is any good and how it performs/unlcoks cores, etc. I know a few people on this forum are interested in this board but want to hear from other peoples experience, well that person BE me ;)
If I like the Biostar and have a chip that unlocks, I have a case project in mind which involves an xbox 360 chassis (RROD motherboard out of warranty) and shoehorning in the Biostar along with the 550BE, making the front USB slots usable with the Biostar, etc. All inside a 360 :D
I'm hoping the 60mm fans included with an xbox 360 are good enough to push out the heat of a phenom II.
Lets just say I can't wait until the morning
Update:
My bits have arrived :D
I got me a 0924EPMW! Anyone had one of these yet? Do they unlock?
I'll be back in an hour as I'm about to find out
x2 550BE (cacay?) 0919 xxxx im not sure about codes, but with asus m4A78T-E i can prolly unlock all cores, but... not enought stable to boot up win7 x64 bit
It hangs up on loading screen, cores not showing up on bios either. MAybe im doing just something wrong or cores are dud's.
Ok both my CPU's have dud cores, you can update the list on the first page C-Buzz.
CACYC AC 0919EPMW - Fail (Motherboard won't boot up when ACC enabled)
CACYC AC 0924EPMW - Fail (Motherboard won't boot up when ACC enabled)
I'm going to order another two chips and just hope they unlock. Knowing my luck I'll never get a chip that unlocks :(
judging by that and most of the other ep steppings anything with ep is going to fail, the ap steppings seem to do ok
So anyone know where to get AP stepping X2's in the UK? Or do we just have to rely on the luck of the draw? I'd like to build an HTPC soon and wouldn't mind being able to unlock cores!
Hi mate I replied to your PM, yeh I got my 0924EPMW from scan today.
I have also tried phoning places, such as Tekheads, etc, and no-one is willing to go to the warehouse and pick out a particular stepping for me (cant blame them really)
I'm doing a 180 on what I said about ordering 2 more, I'm going to a shop next time so I can see what I'm buying.
I only want a 550be unlocked to 4 cores for WCG to crunch and help out XS. Parts in the UK are expensive and I cant afford an I7, so a budget 550be unlocked is perfect for me.
Now I'm stuck with two 550's that overclock pretty well but I want to sell them because they wont unlock :( Expect a post in the FS section pretty soon
P.S. this Biostar TA790GX XE is a fantastic motherboard for the price. It's packed full of features and overclocks very well. I have it hooked up to my 26" HDTV via HDMI @ 1920x1080 and it even plays sound through the same HDMI lead! It has onboard ATi graphics which you can overclock, a whole host of tweaking setting in the BIOS. The utilities CD that it comes with has a great load of software for overclocking.
All in all a 10 out of 10 from me, highly recommend this motherboard to anyone.
I just got my DFI JR 790GX-M3H5 and 550 yesterday from NewEgg and it's a 0923APMW (which hasn't even been mentioned in this thread). I'm having troubles unlocking it, but then it could just be me as I've never had an AMD CPU or have ever used AMD BIOS. I can get the BIOS to say "Phenom II X4 B50" and it will get past the "Windows was not shut down properly screen" but it won't show the Windows green loading bar, it just hangs at the blank black screen. Has anyone else had luck with this batch?
Man do I have a nuclear reactor posing as a cpu or is it my old Scythe Mine Rev. B not up to the task? The second I run any type of stability test (p95,IBT,) it hard locks no matter the voltage. Way too much heat.
edit: btw 0922 APMW delivered today
http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/1313/x4b50.jpg
Yeah It's mounted right. Remounted twice and the contact patch was good both times. The chips idles at 48-50C with 4 cores at >1.3v . Don't know how high the temps get because windows locks up. It's an old skt 939 era cooler but it keeps my x3 720 at 35-38C idle and 48-50C load. With 2 cores it doesn't go over 45C at load. I was planning on getting a new cooler anyway so I guess I'll be looking for something tomorrow.
I just got mine today it's in my hands. I am about to try it out on a UD3P. I think I may have a stepping not seen yet 0924BPMW (did not see it when I did a search on all the pages of this thread).
*crosses fingers*
So here's an update:
After messing around with more and more settings in my BIOS, I still can't get my computer to go to the green loading Windows bar, it just stops after the "Windows was not properly shutdown" screen. I was also told on another forum that I could boot into Safe Mode, uninstall the CPU, then boot into Windows normally. Well when I try to do that, my computer hangs at the screen when Windows is loading the system files, specifically right after it loads crcdisk.sys (IIRC). Do you guys think my OS could be corrupt and is holding me back from unlocking the other two cores?
Ambient temp is <24C. Either this is a burner or my cooler just isn't up to the ask of cooling a quad.
Have you tried bumping the voltage? Bump it up to 1.5v to see if it will boot and then work down from there if it will boot. 0919EPMW seems like a good batch for the most part.
It sounds like your Windows installation is corrupt because you can't even boot to it with 2 cores enabled. So do a fresh install.
Ok I am blind or something, but where do I get BIOS F2c for a Gigabyte UD3P? I flashes to F2 but no go, but I am seeing people say F2c, which I can't find :(
EDIT:
Ok a little copy link location, add a "c" in the filename and here it is:

Question about putting ACC -2% to all four cores. What exactly does it do? I have a X2 unlocked to X4 overclocked to 3.8ghz (19multix200) at 1.456v. Settings are hyper,ACC all cores -2%. I am trying to get it to 3.9 or 4.0ghz. Does the settings i modify in the ACC affects my clocks? I might be limit out.. but I have a feeling that i can squeeze out another 100 or 200mhz. Please help me out here. Temps are fine, idles at 38c full load while running prime is around 55-58c on Zalman9900 air cooler. PSU is good, putting out enough power. Should i try to raise the north bridge voltage a bit? because is on stock voltage now. Voltages are all stock except Core and Vdim. Any suggestions would be appropriated.
Have you tried another BIOS...
Even your Chipset Temp is kinda hot... Are your Abiant temps around 30c or Higher?
Last ,,Ive seen some Bioses overvolt the NB or CPUvid even though the CPU says its @ 1.1v it may be @ 1.55v..Somthing to look into with 40c idles.
Also what type of paste are you using and how much did you put on?.
Always check the inprint the HS leaves on IHS.. If its not contacting at least in a full circle or size of a quater ,, you may have bad contact making heatdisapation harder..
A Mine is way better thana Hot Stocksink:yepp:
I have the 790gx xe motherboard for my wife. i Put my Be 550 in and using the 1/13/09 bios with acc on auto it will unlock. I think my batch week is the 19. IF you try the newest bios it will not post with acc set to auto. Also that motherboard does not have options to adjust NB. It does work with latest version of AOD to change multiplyer. Voltage changes must be made in bios. This motherboard works ok if you are looking for a mild oc. Say 3.6-3.8 more than that and it doesn't seem to be to stable. I have not tried to raise the base clock so some gains might be had there. But the biggest set back is on not being able to change the NB multipler. I will have a test later this week early next week on the msi 790fx-gd70. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Immortal, crcdisk.sys boot error usually means one of the memory sticks got loose. Otherwise you can just repair your windows installation with your windows cd on startup.
Yeah, I reseated the RAM and the error went away. However, I'm pretty sure that my batch truly has two defective cores that won't unlock. I've tried almost everything now, and no matter what I do, it always hangs right before the Windows green loading bar screen.
Anyone else have a 0923APMW?
Ahhhh that might be my problem. I just read ACC doesn't work on the latest BIOS (525) which is a shame because that BIOS offcially supports the 550be whereas the older one doesn't. Also you can change the NB frequency all the way past 3600MHz, not sure if the old BIOS does this.
Time to put on the old BIOS and try ACC with my chips.
I'll try one of the other beta bios out there. I'm on 1.4B4 beta. I've been using tuniq tx-2 ( same as mx-2 ?) and I've gotten a good contact patch. Only the corners of the ihs are clean. I apply using a .33" line down the center of the ihs. This has worked fine for me in the past.
Well I may have a dud on my hands, but this board is acting very weird so maybe there is something else going on.
Mobo: GA MA770T UD3P, BIOS F2c
What I did was:
1) Flash from BIOS F1 -> F2
2) Found bios F2c, flashed from F2->F2c.
3) Here where it got weird. For one it did not ask me if I wanted to flash, it just flashed.
4) Went into ACC in the new bios, turned on hybrid firmware and ACC to auto. Saved settings and got a message that it was updating firmware. Message went away, system went to re-start and it just sat at a black screen. Cleared CMOS and got back into the bios, ACC mode was back to normal not hybrid.
5) Switched back to hybrid mode, saved, did not tell me it was updating firmware, restarted fine. Went back in, set ACC to auto, restarted, no post. Now...it would not restart at all, and would not turn off. I had to flip the switch on the PSU to get it to turn off...BUT...as soon as I flipped the PSU back on it re-posted by itself and posted fine and I got into windows. I restarted, same black screen with the same solution.
So for some reason it wont cold or warm restart, but the PSU switch being flipped lets it boot right up? Not only that but when I do get it to restart with the PSU and re-enter the bios, all the settings are what I put them at. Hybrid ACC on Auto. However when I do get into windows I only have two cores.
So...not sure if my CPU is bad or if the board is just ultra buggy. I am now trying to get my M3A79-T Deluxe to flash to a mod bios I saw in a thread here, but it won't let me flash back to it because it is too old. I have tried using EZ Flash, Asus Update, and even ADUFDOS and all of them are telling me I can't roll back because its too old. It's not the mod bios either because I can't roll back to an older official bios either, I tried. So I will try and get that stupid board working but it's just annoying me. I also have a Biostar XE mobo that should arrive today. I will try on THAT board today too.
I both love and hate hardware ;)
flash an earliar bios on the giga board sounds like it didn't like the flash
Forgot to mention that actually. When I realized the flash to F2c seemed dodgy, I flashed back to F2 and then re-flashed to F2c. The flash went much smoother, it prompted me to update instead of just doing it, the firmware told me it was updating and it did re-post when I set the firware to hybrid (but kept ACC off for the first reboot). However once I had both Hybrid and ACC Auto on the odd PSU restart method was back.
F2 was actually released after F2c. F2c was giving me all sorts of memory instability issues. Once I flashed to F2, all was well. I'd stay away from F2c.
Just got my chip a few minutes ago, unfortunately I have to go to work right now... :(
I'll be testing it when I get home tonight on my GBT 790XT-UD4P (Water Cooled).
I was really happy to see the batch, 0922 APMW, Serial 0144...
Hopefully I'll be as lucky as other folks with this week code! ;)
Cool I got 0922 APMW serial 0136
Some BIOS versions with a letter after the number refer to a beta BIOS's.
You can usually just check the release date to confirm that.
Rumor has it AMD is pressuring the MB makers to stop allowing BIOS unlock in their BIOS's so the feature may not be there in future BIOS's.
Here's a good little read, and it even mentions Chew.
http://www.techreaction.net/2009/05/...ng-essentials/
It did unlock but I haven't gotten it stable yet. I think it might be board/bios related. The temp problems are actually temp reporting problems. Using a temp probe, I've been able to get realistic readings.
That's weird. I'm able to unlock in hybrid mode with the F2 bios. I went from F2c to F2, though so maybe that's why. It's fixed all my memory stability issues, but my 550 runs hot as well when unlocked. I'm on stock cooler, but I wonder if it's a temp reporting issue as well. I had to rma my video card, so I'm computer-less right now, but when I get the new card I'm getting a Freezer Pro 7 as well, so hopefully I'll have some success with the temps.
I've reinstalled/repaired windows a few times now and when I have ACC set to auto, I get stuck at crcdisk.sys when trying to boot into safe mode no matter what. However when I have the BIOS set to defaults, my computers hangs for about a minute at the crcdisk.sys message, then boots into safe mode. Could this be related to a faulty CPU, Mobo, HDD?
Other than that, when ACC is disabled, the CPU runs perfectly.
Your probably right about the bios issue, since our chips are so close, even down to the serial number...
I've only been playing with it for an hour or so, but so far I'm pretty impressed! I've still got alot of tweaking to do, but it sure seems like it's going to be stable as a Quad...
No serious stress testing yet, but so far so good as far as my preliminary testing goes. One thing I always watch is WPrime, from my experience, if the cores stay in sequence (or at least close) during the benchmark thats a good sign your going to be able to get it stable. This puppy went 1234,1234,1234,1234... :D
Heres a SS:
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...50_X4_Test.png
I had to give it a little Vcore, but not nearly as much as the 940 or the 720, and the temps still seem to be decent (of course it's just a guess on an unlocked chip :p:)...
So far I'm a Happy Camper!! This may very well be my new "Best Ever Chip"...:D
Week 22's are fairly recent, but if these are the duds that weren't good enough to be 965's it gives me hope for AMD's process improvements. :yepp:
Sorry for the double post, but I'm as giddy as a school girl...
I actually broke the 4Ghz barrier and it doesn't seem to be done yet (Sweet)!!
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3.../0703_4Ghz.png
 i guess I'm just going to have to wait for a stable bios from MSI that will unlock. I can prime any two sets or individual cores up the wazoo( using affinity ), but if I add a third core hard locks instantly. I even hard locked doing menial task in windows like clicking on a youtube video. It didn't matter how few or how many volts I threw at it. It's a pretty good clocking chip for an x2 cause I'm at 3.8ghz with 1.385, but the temps are completely retarded in software running 4 cores. What's strange is that every once in a while when I boot up with 4 cores the temps will report fine in AOD, HWmonitor, and everest but that's once every 5 -6 boots. I'd even get core temp readings that weren't 0C but realistic 28-29C idle. Any stress test will hard lock within 10s of starting though.
Hi there from Serbia.
Got X2 550 last month, ordered 3 of them, two for my friends. Batch 0920 and all three no luck unlocking.
Still happy with my x2 550, 3.6ghz on box with no increase on voltage.
What board and bios are you running that they wont unlock? May be it's just not the right combination.
btw are you going to the Zagreb music festival? I hear it's always amazing.
Biostar TA790GX A2+, Biostar TA790GXB and Gigabyte M720-UD3. No luck on all 3, two CPUs with no boot, one boots but locks after 1 sec. Tryed every possible combo with bios, voltage... but 0920 batch is pure :banana::banana::banana:.
PS. Zagreb is in Croatia. We have Exit here. This year Prodigy, Korn, Moby... Maddona.

Tried 0023 mod bios and lastest non beta on website 1104.
On bios 0023, I cant boot with ACC enabled at all. Though it just seems like a bad bios for me as I cant even change the multiplier with that bios either, it just wont post at anything but default.
1104 I can change multi and it works, ACC enables but it does nothing.
Latest 1104 bios also reports 1.45volts default for the cpu in bios though CPU-Z 1.51 says 1.35 in Windoze.
On a side note, thought I had corrupted the bios in flashing it. It would post but would fail in sending S.M.A.R.T commands to the hdd and couldn't boot(disabling smart did nothing). Noticed some dust on the bios chip so I sprayed it nice and clean with Contact cleaner and flashed no problem after that.
Sorry that's the one I was thinking of a dj friend of mine played there a few years ago and he still talks about how crazy it is. I know 0920 is not the best, but have you tried different bios. We have a member that was able to unlock on gigabyte here : http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=228239
Man , that sucks. Well, at lest you have dual cores that can clock to 3.8+ghz. Still really good for gaming.
