Great results Bobbylite! Seems like a decent chip, Good job :yepp:
Good job RGE saving me some grunt work when i go to town on this bad boy!
I'm still waiting on some components to put mine together.
Driving me nuts seeing this board in its box staring at me.
I have the UD5 board together with some Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600C8 memory, the 6 gb kit and a Core i7 920. When i try any overclock Windows will only see 4 gb of memory. I am using Windows Vista 64 Ultimate.
Even at default settings in the BIOS, 2.66 ghz @ auto volt and the mem @ DDr 1600 XMP the system will only see 4 gb.
I have to use lots of vcore to get to 3.8 with my i7 920. 1.46 in bios, QPI @ 1.400, DDR @ 1.680. I am using BIOS f4f. F3 doesnt help. The system is stable @ 3800 but with only 4 gb. Im thinking the mem controller of the i7 920 is crap.
Does somebody have a tip ?
Why Prime with Turbo and HT Off? Of Course it will result in using a lot lower VCore. But Under Water you can prime easily at 200x20 with everything On.
With Turbo and HT Disabled you can easily do 217x20.

It's your chip that is a good one, most cant do it.
Till 190 all can do it , over 195 start be luck on the chip you got.
I tested 6 chips before find one that can run 200x20 with turbo enabled
any tips on hitting 20x200 kensek? what mobo voltages you running?
Then the Magical setup is for sale. I bought a bunch of different X58 Mobos and CPUs and Ram kits to test and compare. This 920 works the best in the Gig EX58-Extreme.
However the i7 965 works the best in the Rampage 2 Extreme.

If I can't sell it at a fair price it goes onto one of the ten racks of Computer Equipment I have in my loft.
Up there I got Q6700s, 8800GTS', 20 GB of DDR2-800 and 1066 Ram, TRUEs, 9700NTs, Mobos, PSUs. About $10K worth of stuff when bought new. Today maybe a few grand if I felt like I needed some beer Money.

where can i get f4g for ga-ex58 ex ??
http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/giga...st-bios-28441/ It will be there when Stasio can track it down and link it. Currently F4e is the latest.
Got a link to the f4c or can email it to gt.shon@gmail.com ? Only bios i never tested
Kensek can I move into your loft?
So the only difference between the Gigabyte EX58 Extreme and the Gigabyte EX58-UD5 is the heatpipes and waterblock? Is there actually any difference between the two in terms of overclockability?
What is the SLI performance on the two boards like?
And are their any waterblocks available for the X58 chipset yet. I realise it doesn't really require it but if I wanted to watercool either board (and didn't want to use the bundled block with the Extreme,) are there any blocks that will fit this?
Thx flashing it now , brb :P
Please guys... can you post alle the settings? Thank you...
Pff 205 bclk still no prime stable, no see clock gains compared to F3 :)
I couldn't either.
But i could run SuperPi and 3DMark06 at 205 with all the Bells and whistles on.
And i could also use SetFSB up to 208.5 to do both.
Then you get 9.33s in Pi 1M and a CPU score of 8K in 3DMK06
Want to try EX58-Extreme-F4C
I think it is more luck of draw than settings from what I have seen. I ran 20x200 this am and made sure only settings listed below were changed from stock.
Only difference is I have i940, so for 20x200 I have to turn turbo off, as with turbo on it would be 23x200 or 4600. Turbo will bring your multi to stock +1. However at 22x182 (native multi) I leave turbo on and it is prime stable with same vcore whether on or not, and my guess is most with i920 can leave turbo on for 20x200.
9hr prime stable (pic)
20x200, turbo off (if i920 can leave on, might wish to try off first)
uncore 16x at 1.28 qpi/vtt
QPI 36x
mem multi 8
Ram 1600 8,8,8 24 1.65 (stock for my ram)
vcore 1.35 loadline enabled.
I set everything else to stock/auto. I think all that matters is above and setting qpi/vtt high enough for uncore mhz, and then setting vcore high enough, and most importantly getting lucky with a chip that does not require too much vcore to get there.
My chip will run spi 4.6ghz at 1.49v see sig...and max superpi was at 4670mhz at 1.57 vcore with 1.6 bios, not going higher on water. Only other setting that helped in benching only was cpu pll setting 1.96 instead of 1.8.
EDIT: It also matter what bios you are running whether turbo needs more vcore than with turbo off.
Bios F3 (GB Extreme) with turbo on, loading 1 or 2 cores gives turbo, but fully loading all 4 cores with prime and turbo is inactive. So on this bios I can use the same vcore whether tubo is on or off, because while only loading 2 cores, vdroop is less, and vcore is still enough to support 2 cores at 4186.
Bios F4e (GB Extreme) with turbo on, loading all 4 cores with prime still gives turbo. In fact running prime with linpack running and with ati running...still gives turbo...in other words you will always be in turbo mode. For this bios I need a few notches higher in vcore to 1.368 or 1.375 (1.375 stable for sure) so that additional vdroop from fully loading all cores still can support 4186. ? if this is bug or just different bios parameters.
I dont know about bioses for UD5.
probably one of your modules is defective.
When i use 1.40 vQPI, then the system sees 6 gb. I memtested the system @ bios default settings. No errors. I tested the modules @ DDR1600 (only 4 gb in bios), no errors. When i use 1.40 vQPI then i do see 6 gb. I memtested these settings, no erros.
I was using
20*190
vcore 1.45 bios
vqpi 1.40
CPU PLL 1.80
turbo off
HT off
vdram 1.680 bios
the rest on auto
mem timings 8-8-8-24 CR 1
This is stable but BIOS and Windows see only 4 gb. I switched the modules and tested them one by one. No errors. Could this be a CPU Mem controller issue and/or a board issue ?
Allright I'm giving the P6T a run I am still a Gigabyte person but Fry's had an open box P6T I couldn't resist... I will say there are absolutely no issues and my read write and copy is ridiculous.. So far this board is the most mature by a landslide the bios and settings are very refined for such a new chipset.. I'm very pleased....
hey anybody having issues with CrossfireX?
2 4870X2 no go on the UD5....
Hello everyone here!
I just completed my system of GA X58 UD5 and everything seems to be in order and runs well. I haven't started overclocking yet as I want to make sure everything is stable first. One problem that I have is that the system can go into suspend (S3) successfully but will not wake up. The power lights come back on and the fans are spinning but nothing after that.
Does anybody else have the same problems? System in sig.
Many thanks.
anyone else have a bit of trouble with the extreme and the screws not quite lining up when installing in their case? maybe its because I installed the silent pipe before I screwed it down?
I have a problem hopefully someone can help
I7 965
Giga extreme
Corsair 1600 MHz memory
Vista 64 bit sp1
Tri sli gtx 280
Thermaltake 1200 psu
I had it before with a qx9650 but only 2 gigs and never had this problem not till I went x58
Ok after stress testing or sometimes randomly after restart I get a flash blue screen. Doesn't happen in dual channel mode only 3channel mode
I have tried default settngs same thing and system repair
Also different kits same thing
Memtest passes perfect and system is stable once it boots but I kind of have to let it sit for 20 minutes so it can boot. If I take a stick out it boots perfect all three sticks have been tried in different slots
Today it did it cold but booted fine with two sticks
My ga-x58-extreme no have problems with an antec 900 all holes allign perfectly :P
anyone has experience with 12gb om the EX58-Extreme?
I dont like the numerous ports about "missing ram" in the third slot. :(
Meh, i think i'll see if the Extreme is compatible with the OCZ ram i orderd. :p:
anyone able to boot x48 or x44 qpi link speed? after 3.2ghz It wont even boot unless set to x36 (6.84ghz) what effect does this have on performance?
I'm using 12GB of 1600 C8 RAM with no complaints except for some other unrelated ones.
By the way the board lines up fine with the mounting holes in my TJ07. Not sure why anyone would have a problem with that...
Any one else having trouble getting the X58 UD5 to start up? I have to keep messing with the switch to get it to boot up, I have the memory 3 x 1gb corsair in the white slots, I have tried the blue and same thing. Light flash then it turns off, I keep hitting the on switch and same thing. I can unplug the PSU push the button and drain the power, plug it back in then keep hitting the on switch, repeat and after several of those I finally get a boot...
do you guys think it's the memory controller or mobo with my problem? I just found out I still have 4 days warranty left but I dunno how the place handles warranties.
Any other steps I can take to diagnose it?
Maybe the os?
so far so good. Not primed yet, but I'm working on it :)
So far the CPU OC's the same but the P6T is sooo much more stable and no reboot/coldboot B.S. and memory bandwith isn't even close.. I'm priming right now and I will post some camparisons but the P6T runs much nicer, just perfectly..
Attachment 90059
Attachment 90060
But I just can't run the CPU at 4.0Ghz I can't believe it but it just won't run that speed!! I have no idea why or what to change to fix it. I have now been priming perfectly for 2 hours at 3.967 with a Bclk of 209 on the 19-multi at 1.35Vcore set in bios, memory at 1670 8-8-8-24 Dram bus volatge at 1.66V everything else on auto..
On that note I have a conspiracy theory and I wonder if anyone is on board...
I think intel has put some sort of ceiling on these 920's because why on earth can I run 3.967 at 1.35Vcore Prime Stable but 4.0 is impossible unless maybe I put 1.45 volts through it but there is something strange here I just don't get it.. Anyone else with a 920 want to jump on board with my conspiracy theory.. It's like they said hey if you buy the cheap one your gonna have to WC it to get it to 4.0...
anyone try F4i???
I did on the extreme...just like F4e on extreme...did not see anything different, including the turbo bug is still there. It runs in turbo +1 multi even with prime loading all 4 cores/8 threads + linpack running. Basically just a higher multi on this bios...though maybe they did that on purpose. But I like turbo better, so back to f4c. But dont know if ud5 f4i is different.
anyone else getting a bug where cpu-z shows the bios value +1 for CAS latency? Which do I believe?
On boot screen sometimes as well is shows 2gb installed but bios and windows always shows 3gb (not really a problem just was curious about this)
whoever tested the latest beta
can you see if the default bios settings have USB keyboard enabled now
i asked them to put that in
annoying when i have to go and change that setting in bios hehehehe
i havent received any emails regarding these latest betas
i wouldnt advice you guys flash to every bios you see but if you want to have a play or have some specific issue to fix and know the beta is going to resolve it fair enough
i have to test this cold boot bug some are talking about
ROFL at Guacamole and consiracy theories
you're crazy dude :p: :D
Dino its been agreed unofficially by Tim in a conversation i had that the best way to stay up to date on betas is to visit the Tweaktown BIOS thread.
Thats kinda the unofficial distribution method now.
the newest Beta Bios can you download @ www.jzelectronic.de ;) :p:
i think this is the page where stasio download all the files ;)
No he published f4i on tweaktown before them :D
No its called binning. :p:
My previouse QX9650 could clock to 3,598ghz with 1,25V stock, over 3,6ghz it needed a serious bump to ~1,35V and 4ghz it needed north of 1,45V to get it stable. :yepp:
I know other QX9650 that others reached 4ghz with less then 1,4V. You just found your wall.
F4i on x58ext still has default USB keyboard and mouse disabled, dont know if UD5 same or not. I wish they would enable both of those...cut down on my routine of enable mouse, enable keyboard, disable azalia sound...since I have soundcard.
Yep, you ran 4.2ghz, not 4. I just saw your prime screen in other thread. When running prime all 4 cores, your multi should drop back to 20x200, but on all the latest bios turbo = 1 extra multi. Turbo +1 multi is total TDP limited only, (not limited by the number of cores active like +2 multi), and I believe there is a (hidden) bios setting where this TDP limit can be enabled or disabled. If disabled like on most recent bios, practically speaking turbo = 1 extra multi. If the setting exists, I wish GB would let us turn it on or off.
If you ran 20x200 (turbo off) you would need much less vcore to run 4 stable instead of what you did, which was run 4.2 stable. If use bios where turbo is functioning with TDP limit on, you only need same vcore to run turbo on vs turbo off.
i still get emails sent
i dont really mind either way and i tell you what a lot of the times i usually search google for GB site for betas or other sites
i'm not a member there but stasio is doing a great job here so as long as i'm subscribed here i'll keep up to date heh
hey deanzo that is REALLY odd mate
have you tested other boards and have the same issue...sounds like CPU issue (probably high voltage bug that shamino mentioned)
CFX just fine here...
just a fresh win install..
any reason to upgrade from the f3 bios?
I saw that some people disable HT. Isn't HT something you want to have enabled?
I mostly game, but there are times where I use Photoshop and a little bit of movie editing.
so disable as default and when I am going to use those other apps, then enable?
I really don't care about synthetic benchmarks, I'm interested in real world performance.
So with HT disabled, the ONLY advantage of i7 over say a C2Q is the better memory bandwidth?
Aw man. HT on/off, turbo mode on/off, both seem to affect overclocking ability?
My time period for getting my max stable clock just got 3/4 times longer
What are people's thoughts on having HT disabled, considering what benefits may or may not be there for day to day use when comparing 8 threads to 4, i'm thinking i just might leave it off if it will help clocks.
I hear ya, my thoughts are HT off turbo on for my needs :) which are 3d gaming and benching. 4.0ghz only takes 1.36vcore in bios with turbo on (4.2ghz) while I cant even boot with HT on with 1.4vcore
I'm still on f3 and see no reason to change it. All of this public bios beta testing reflects terribly on Gigabyte imo. Getting files from tweaktown that should be posted on the manufacturers website just seems ass backwards too me. But whatever, the board works great out of the box.
Is there any reason at all to go with the EX58 Extreme over the UD5 if your not watercooling the NB? The Extreme model doesn't overclock any better or offer any extra perks outside of the NB cooler does it?
Also, what does the NB cooler look like on the Gigabyte Extreme if you don't use the huge addon that goes in the first expansion slot? Do you just use the watercooling block on there and it serves the purpose even without watercooling it? Every review I've looked at either has the big expansion slot heatsink installed in the picture or it just has the waterblock.
Well what I mean is I know the UD5 overclocks well also but does the UD5 and Extreme overclock exactly the same? I realize there will always be a slight differential between two of the same boards but I was just trying to figure out if the Extreme model was more of a "cherry" pick over the UD5. In other words if I put the waterblock on the UD5 would it then be an Extreme? lol
My system wouldn't come out of suspend with BIOS F3. With the beta F4i, the system comes out of suspend (S3) just fine.....
However, with F4i my system has the tendency to hang at Verifying DMI Information (or something like that) during start up and will need to be turn off and turn on again.....
Might be from your SSD's
ok I had a couple of services stopped and started them and updated my vista install (I had sp1 though) and today and last night it has worked without any hiccups **crosses fingers and hopes it stays like that** before I could repeat the problem running vistas memory diagnostic tool on the first run, I have ran it a good 5 times in a row and still booting no problems in tri channel..
Yes Dino sometimes the email do come, but these days after some changes occured they are often very late after development and also sent only to a random selection of the usual people.
Ofc not.
Currently the beta bios has a bugg, running as I thought was 4ghz was 4.2ghz. (turbo always on 21x200 cpu-z)
set in bios,
20x200 bios f4f
turbo on
HT off.
eist, c1 also off.
qpi 36x
uncore auto.
ram auto.
loadline on
1.38125vcore.
qpi/vtt 1.235
cpu pll 1.84
qpi pll 1.18
ioh core 1.120
ich 1/0 1.58
ich core 1.140
Not sure how much my settings means to you.
I use some extra volt and havent really tuned things yet.
I bet it has a lot to do with the cpu and how well it is binned.
And maybe some see my settings and screams, darn your cpu is burning up soon hehe:ROTF:
Thank you Flopper. At least it will give me some insight. I only had qpi pll @ 1.14 so maybe that's part of my problem. How high have you gotten your Bclk?(is that what it is called?) I can only do 205 and that is with vtt = 1.35
"qpi pll 1.8"
is this a typo? Isnt stock 1.1, seems high to me mine is @ 1.14
Is this really a bug or just how this is designed to work. When C1E and EIST are disabled, at idle, I think you get your base or default multiplier for your chip and you automatically get the +1 Turbo as well. I think the only way to have a lower multi than that at idle is by having C1E / EIST enabled.
I'm not sure if CPU-Z is 100% accurate at part throttle. It's showing half (0.5) multipliers that don't exist in Core i7. It's also doing some sort of averaging and reporting MHz based on 1/4, 1/8 and even 1/16 multipliers according to rge.
I've just done a lot of work to RealTemp to try and get it reading the multiplier correctly from Core i7. I followed the Intel directions exactly about how to correctly read the multiplier so now I just need some feedback from the Core i7 guys. Thanks.

Here's some issues that rge was finding.
