So still HTT limited?
Yeah it was a total different ballgame clocking the K8s on the Giga, dinos. A dream infact.
Tried all voltages, I think the NB is possibly the "issue"
oke took while to activate had 1 question to amd phenom
are you having cool'n quite turned on.
as your system is booting @ 1200 mhz or is it turned off
also intrested in 3dmark6 score.
with previous cpu and ofc phenom.
i'm likely to upg to phenom asswell
got same mobo.
Hi AMD-Phenom,
Just a confirmation for you, I get that exact same problem with AMD Overdrive and Vista, "Can't detect RD700 chipset" , I even downloaded the earlier version to try in case it had been updated to only run on 700 chipset, but still no luck.....
The 3dmark06 score seems to suggest that SLI is enabled for you, I was getting 12800 score with my 6400+ @ 3520MHz and 2 x 8800GTS 320MB Oc'd @ 612/900 in SLI and Vista..... so your 12400 score with the Phenom at 2640Mhz is about the score I was expecting to see.... so I'll definitely mention it in any reply to ASUS once they get back to me......so big thank you for that... just wish this BIOS for the M2N32-SLI was working as well as the one for the M2N-SLI... I'm itching to get on with this Phenom, and its killing me to be forced to have to wait for ASUS to get their act together, I've had this Phenom for 5 days now, and I can't do anything with it, or my PC....going to give it another week then, my 6400+ is going back in....... damned ASUS...
Very nice...
I had one very bad issue when I updated my Asus Crosshair to latest BIOS (that one who supports Phenom) :yepp:
Then I could only have HTT 1x, the same frequency as my FSB
ONLY 1X HTT!! and I lost 20FPS in 3DMark just like that...
Then I reflashed to an earlier BIOS... and my Crosshair JUST DIED...
I have sent it on RMA and asking for Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6, AMD 790FX... :yepp:
I will write a review when I get my new motherboard...
Have a good time! ;)
I doubt you get a new mobo if you crapped the mobo by flashing bios...Though if it froze during the bios update then it's possible to RMA it.
Hi AMD-Phenom or others, this is the compare url for my Phenom, http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3856610 you can see the problems I mean with the graphics performance....
I checked with your compare url and its obvious theres something seriously wrong....
Yeaa, I know... in fact if they knew that I was flashing they wouldn´t give me a new board...
I diden´t told them I was flashing, of course, - I am not stupid =)
I told them it just died... and I think they are to stupid to figure it out...
Have a nice day... :ROTF:
Hi lo squartatore,
I can't give you any inof on the OC potential of the 9500 myself at the moment I'm afraid, as the motherboard BIOS doesn't currently offer the best support for the Phenom.
As far as I know 2.75Ghz is the best that AMD-Phenom has gotten but not stable, and I beleive thats using the stock voltage...... but maybe he can let us know if hes tried a voltage increase or not....
It seems that the general consensus of opinion is that the OC is being limited by the NB and HTT...... but I think it would be fair to say that BIOS support is limited - at the moment at least - and this could be holding things back, maybe once mobo manufacturers catch up with things and get some improved BIOS' available then more/better options will be avaiable for overclocking...
Sorry can't settle the discussions once and for all for you, but hope it gives you a little more information to go on....
WPCREDIT works on DQ6
http://www.abload.de/image.php?img=nbtvia.jpg
Hi if your asking if 3.6Ghz is a possible OC of the 9500, speaking for myself I would say theres no chance of it...!!!! Thats not to say that later revisions of the Phenom won't though..... !!! I think 3.0GHz for the 9500 will probably be easily within reach, once BIOS issues are taken care of.... but its still very early days and a lot more info is needed before sayng anything for certain...
C&Q is definately off mate.
I tried the very same tactic with an earlier version of AMD-OD :ROTF:
I re-tried 06 last night with a single GTS and scored 11,3**. I must say I'm a tad displeased at the level of sli performance if this is how sli performs. A 1k gain with the addition of a 2nd GTS 640MB seems incorrect to me (but then I'm sli newbie).
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok. I re-installed XP and started afresh. Cpuz now reports vcore more accurately than before but AMD-OD now doesn't update cpu/mem/htt speeds in the gui...settings apply but are shown incorrectly.
XPpro sp2, Phenom driver, chipset drivers (v9.19), then AMD-OD and finally Ai booster.
WPcredit works np, but NB speed would appear to NOT be the problem on this mobo.
If I set x10 NB multi with WPcredit then x11 is displayed in AMD-OD and memory pane of cpuz 1.42.
I also set it to x8 but still FSB lock up at 250 :(
I managed to catch a 2750mhz part-screenie with x11 NB runing same speed as cpu :)
In regards to vcore and NB voltage increases I've tried upto 1.55v with upto 1.50v to the NB with no effect whatsoever.
The relaxed memory timings in these screenies were in an effort to rule out memory dividers and/or timings with again zero effect.
edit.....
BIG thanx to tic-tac for the heads up on wpcrcedit
Could you explore any performance boosts due the higher NB frequencies?
Hmm still suggests that theres a HT issue then IMO, when I went from single 8800GTS to 2 x 8800GTS SLI, I saw an increase from about 8000 to 12000, so a 4k difference.....
I'd say this is still an issue with the HT BUS, or possibly even an isse with the gfx card drivers....????? Maybe Nvidia need to bring out new drivers for the Phenom...????
Phenom is really crap, my max OC is 2450MHz ... poor AMD in end of their life ... performance is flaky ... and stupid MOFO with new nick can say anything ... Phenom is totall crap ...
OBR might I suggest that you at the least specify that it is your opinion that Phenom is crap, though you've not given any real basis for your conclusion, or given any details of what it is you have tried, to OC your Phenom, if in fact you have one....!!!
You...like everyne...are entitled to their opinion, but to trash someone elses opinio, you must surely be prepared to have your own opinion drawn into question.....
Better if you just state that it is "IMO" or similar, than to cast aspersions on other peoples opinions.....
You say that Phenom is total crap, and yet it seems apparrent to most reasonable people that it has hardly been a week since it was released, and that there are still some issues surrounding motherboard support for Phenom, which is hardly demonstrative that Phenom itself is total crap..... as you put it..... but more likely that motherboard manufacturers have done a poor job of providing adequate support for their products.....
Please by all means do provide us with your screenshots and analysis of your own Phenom OC attempts, this will at least then give some support and possibly credence to your OPINION.....!!!!! and will actually make a useful and worthwhile contribution to this thread.... and will serve to show others the details of the particular setup and any issues.....
I agree with kazgirl.
OBR,i am very interested in a pic of your Phenom CPU.Also a picture of a running system along with Everest running would be appreciated.
Phenom is a long way from total crap...The boards and bioses could be called like that(but still that would be pushing it..).
BIOS support will come just as it did with the initial AM2 boards that could barely beat the older s939 systems(later on with good bios and ram,AM2 could easily outrun per clock and outclock any s939 system;today we have 3.5Ghz X2 systems running, with 65nm G2s hitting 3.4Ghz region with air)
really interested in seeing the higher NB speed with phenom, I have a feeling thats whats keeping the CPU behind the Q6600, and terrible scaling @ 3ghz vs 2.2ghz
Yeah, fine, I saw your avatar. I think it tells enough about you and your credibility. And, if that list in your signature is up to date, then you haven't tried any motherboards that fully support Phenom.
Keep it up, bro! I want to see some more. Is there anyway you could test Linux or BSD performance.
Has anyone put one under phase or LN2 yet? I am wondering if this cpu suffers from a "cold bug"
This is merely my opinion as I have not seen anyone put a Phenom under phase or LN2. I'm assuming that because the Phenom is made on the same process as the 65nm Brisbane, it's going to have the same coldbug attributes. Let's wait and see. I'm waiting for a B3 revision and a Cryo-Z! :D
Nice post OBR:rolleyes:
What happened to AMD-PHENOM.
He got banned?
Right when we were seeing something too :shakes:
wtf how and why?!?!?!?
Yea, but why. He had a nice thread going here...
I will have a 9500, MSI 790x motherboard in the matter of days. It will be ocing on water day 1, and will have CF 29xx 1GB cards in it.
I will share my findings after my play time(By this weekend hopefully).
On my last setup I either fried my FX-62 or my DDR2. I think I toasted the FX-62. but you never know.........So if I have to RMA my memory it will not be untill next week.
Banned? Are you serious?? What in the hell for? I looked back over his posts and there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. That's crazy! Something smells.... hmm
Maybe he was in disguise of being a person that is already banned
Maybe. I guess that's the only logical explanation. Anyone know who he was? Maybe we can track him down on another forum. I'd love to see how much, if any, that NB increase sped things up.
this was one of the most useful thread about am2 compatibility...damn for that ban!
Been doing some overclocking on my phenom 9500/m2n-sli deluxe
Reduced the NB multiplier to 6 (thanks TicTac)
Memory speed has been severely reduced to stop if from having effect on overclock
I have an Arctic Cooler Freezer pro 64 (or whatever its called)
At 1.4 v ( according to AI-booster)
I have reached 247*11 -> 2717 Mhz
1.45 v -> 253*11 -> 2783 Mhz
(Stability was tested just for 1 minute on AMD overdrive stablility tool)
I feel I'm quickly running into a wall here. Not sure how many volts I can feed it before it overheats. AI booster seems to fluctuate wildly in temps, probably running at more than 55 degrees celcius.
I don't wish to destroy this cpu, but I would like to see how far I can take it. Can I push further safely?
At 1.5v, the highest i can get is 257x11 = 2827.
It looks like I would require about 1.7v to reach 3 Ghz, which seems kind of extreme, and something i'm not willing to attempt on air cooling. Since i don't intended on getting better cooling, this is probably as far as I will push it.
argh I vote for an "unban" in light of this constructive/informative thread
For some reason I seem to have hit a brick wall at 262 FSB as well. I lowered every multiplier I know of, but I can't seem to get anything stable at 262 FSB, even at a cpu multiplier of 5 and my vcore maxed to 1.5625v.
I would guess i could probably get 260x11 stable @ 1.5625, which would result in 2860 mhz, and probably still managable cpu temps. I'm not going to test that right now. I don't see how I could get any higher, as the MB tops out at 1.5625V and I can't hit 262 FSB anyway.
I will be back at about 5 PM tomorrow (Mountain Time).
If you have any benchmark requests, please list them.
you won't need 1.7v just better cooling!
I can achieve a stable 2.67Ghz @ 1.35V , these board/NB clock/ whatever issues are what's preventing 3Ghz + on the right cooling
might be a hole, tried jumping 5-10mhz up from there?
Good TicTac! Should be very intresting to run Phenom on 790FX and set up the NB speed to different levels and see how the processors efficiency increases.
This was originally one of AMD's weapons I think but to run the IMC/L3 cache faster than the processor itself (async like the ALU's in the Netburst architecture).
It's surely one of the bottlenecks in the processors performance. The L3 add's about ~20ns memorylatency. Phenom looks good, but is too early and not finished, just released in a crappy form.
So what? Because it's older you shouldn't flash a bios? It's provided by the manufacturer for you to flash so you could flash back and forth to no end if you are willing. I never killed a bios flashing a board either even in the NF2 days when mobos liked to die from a bios flash every now and then but that doesn't make me feel smarter as i know it's just something that can happen regardless of the user's skills and knowledge.
Live in France but that should not even be taken in consideration, as i said official bioses are meant to be flashed obviously as they are issued to fix bugs, support new cpu revs, enable functions and so on, so someone denying you warranty based on a bios flash is just screwing you IMO.
What, banned? Com'on, with this fruitfull trhead going on because of him, I'm sorry but this one of the rare cases where the reasons should be shown!
Com'on, we just lost at once 3 different motherboard full tested in phenom for what?
I agree the reason in this case is very important, can any of the previosu posts be considred reliable or not..... was he banned for faslifying posts.... or was it an old banned member....???
Intersted people need to know if any of the previous information is valid or not...???
Do we speculate and just assume that everything that AMD_Phenom posted should be ignored....????
C'mon mods, just a brief reason for the ban so people can make an educated decision on how to consider the information from earlier on in the thread....
BTW in case anyone was wondering I still havn't heard back from ASUS, still waiting for any reply.... nothing new been posted on their website either...
Yep,i just saw that Phenom dude got banned? Why was that?
We have just a few guys over here with Phenoms and now we have one less...Bad for all of us :shakes:
IF he was that dude,it doesn't mean that he never had Phenom CPU...Actually i am looking at some of his screen shots and they seem very legit.
Note that i am speaking about present posts by that dude(if it is the same dude in the first place).I don't know what he claimed before.
I heard rumors that there was going to be a black "unlocked" version of the Phenom comming out. If that's true maybe we can get some of the results that some have gotten with the ES samples. Like this one for example.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=166031
Edit: Dont know why the person was banned, but it is a shame we have one less Phenom to look at.
The rumor said 9600 BE in time for christmas, irrc
Could be a good point with unlocked multi for oc'ing on "old" AM2 boards, thinking of ht link speeds..
His phenom is definitely legit. My scores in Nuclearus were almost the same as his across the board.
I ran some Everest tests, but Everest seems to be highly inconsistent now, and many tests I ran yielded unrealistic results.
At some point I got 11000+ MB of memory throughput, and the next test at the exact same setting yielded like 6500.
I don't even think I can reach a solid concensus on what the differences in scores between the different NB speeds were. If there were any differences, they would be within about 100 MB/second, which far smaller than the margin of error i achieved.
CPU was clocked at 2.64 Ghz, memory at DDR2-800 at 5-5-5-12
I will say this.
About half the time I got results between the ones I'm going to list
Read - 6500-6600 MB/sec
Write - 2900-3000 MB/sec
Latency - 18-22 ns
-----------
Somehow the latency seems really low, but I constistently got it. Everest is not very well suited for this test i guess. I will have to use another program.
I ran Sandra's Memorybandwidth program, at NB multipier of 9,6, and 4, and got the results of around 6200 mb/s Int and Float SSE2 of Memory Bandwidth for each one.
I have a funny idea this northbridge multiplier thing isn't working. AMD overdrive confirms its been changed, but I never restarted, so it may have just been reading a value that was never enacted. Whenever I did restart though, the NB multiplier was back to 9 though, so I don't really understand.
Its possible that the reason I've been hitting a wall a 262 FSB was because the NB was still clocked too high, but I thought it was clocked down.
If that is the case, I never got the NB multiplier thing to work...
Let him back in.
Kick the intel trolls out.
Where the hell are all our freedoms that kids are dying for?
NB frequency does not change for me with the GIgabyte board.
The register changes, and CPU-Z picks up the new value, but you can make it anything you like.. 6ghz even. Reboot and it's gone :(
Any ideas tictac, if you're watching?
These threads are getting messy BTW
He was banned for having multiple accounts... I think last count was 5.
There is another way to show the influence of NB Speed. If you can set different CPU Multi try something like this:
CPU Multi 11 * HTT 200 = 2200 Mhz / 1800 MHz NB Speed
Memory & Cache Bench
CPU Multi 10 * HTT 220 = 2200 MHz / 2000 MHz NB Speed
Memory & Cache Bench
CPU Multi 9 * HTT 244 = 2200 MHz / 2200 Mhz NB Speed
Memory & Cache Bench
Good luck .
Ok well for anyone interested I finally had a reply of sorts from ASUS...essentially it seems that the official position is that the M2N32SLI does support Phenom from BIOS 1503, however it seems from other posts in the ASUS forum, that the BIOS locks the HT Multi at x1 regardless of what it displays in the BIOS settings screen.... this is the chipset issue thats causing the gfx performance issues, but there are also other problems with the BIOS...so for anyone with the M2N32SLI, I'd recommend against trying to use this BIOS.....
Anyway heres their reply:
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k2.../ASUSreply.jpg
He was banned because he didn't have a Core 2 CPU.
Lmfao.
Guys look back a few posts at stevil's post - banned due to multiple usernames.
I was following this thread from the start and he had some very usefull info. I can understand banning him for other reasons but all it takes is deleting the other accounts.
Damn...
And another thread goes usless!
mods, anything to say on why he was banned???
Sorry for interrupting such exciting thread guys, but OP is banned for multiple violation of forum rules and is never coming back. Guess it's another waiting time for other fellow member with Phenom in hands.
Aye, this was a member with a very bad track record and multiple previously banned accounts (for very good reason too).
One decent thread does not nearly redeem someone for countless flaming, baiting, trolling, and various other rule violations (including coming back with multiple accounts later). In fact, as Cooper alluded to, he's never welcome back.
This thread is closed....I suggest whomever buys the next Phenom make their own thread in the spirit of this thread.
