If i remember right i read that some did a parts bin on teh 40 gig and it was just under 400 bucks to make it, and they sell it for that much so losses on that unit cant be too bad and the 80 gig isnt that much more either. ALso cutting more skus will help, things are actually looking pretty good right now in teh PS3 camp. Sony has also stated that they should be able to make a profit off teh ps3 before the end of 08 so thats a good thing. And im oretty sure this is a thread res lol

The PS3 initially cost around $830 to produce the 60GB version, and $700 something for the 20GB. They were selling every single one of them for a huge loss. People were never inthralled with Minolta lenses and the current selection of Zeis lesnes, while they may be high quality, is very limited. Stil dont understand how the Wii manages to outsell the 360 and PS3 on both the console and games.

Of course, one must never underestimate the selling power of 2D Mario games (especially when considering how extremely rare that kind of game is today).
Generalisations aside, you are right about their market being way larger than the hardcore market. I hope you are not dismissing it entirely based on people you know not playing it anymore, as they still seem to have droves of active players.Quote:

There's plenty of good games on the PS3 today Uncharted, Little Big, MGS4 and God of War to name a few. I sold my PS3 a while ago but I'm regretting it more and more. All of the good xbox exclusives with the exception of a couple titles here and there are on PC too and I'd just rather play them on PC. The only thing I really care about is Halo 3, and Alan Wake. The rest of the 360 stuff is either garbage or on PC, I can't say the same for the PS3. Plus you get a blu-ray player.Quote:
