hi abo-san
i got your email but i am trying to reply and cannot.........very strange since i've sent you an email 30 minutes ago
i have some more questions
Thanks mate
When you say “test screenshots” is there are shortcut key like CPUz uses (I think theirs is F5 and F7)
Also one thing I always wanted to ask you is to increase FSB past 511MHz as I'm forced to use Clockgen but prefer Setfsb…………..your program always gives me higher OCs for screenshots because it is not too demanding on the system
I will try the new version you emailed probably tomorrow I’d say………….
I will let you know as soon as I do
Cheers
Dinos22
@Dinos22:I'm buying my new rig in Q3,when the 2nd price-cuts for the C2D's happened, but i'm not sure what mobo to get(think i'll purchase aE6850->due to the 1333Fsb or a Q6600):The new DFI-965S-Dark or one of those new P35 mobo's?And is this board capable of DDR3?I thought i read this somewhere but i'm not sure
yeah but i think X38 is going to be way overpriced...
by that time i'm hoping my nvidia contacts will have a new revision of mobo to play with too :D
you have LOGITECH ULTRA-X keyboad? :P
nah just some good old Compaq OEM one :)
better than hipros ones anyways :D
Came across this one last night. Might be of interest to some of us... Will mount P5K Deluxe later this week and test with single stager and QX6700... The P5W DH Deluxe period is finally over, and I have to say this: God how I hated that MOBO! Can someone provide link or set up a "How to do things", "BIOS list" etc. etc. in first post...
http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?t=150131
I am looking forward to X38 and Intels DX38BT "Bone Trail" board. If it is sub $300 and feature rich I will be picking it up for my new build.
I am a little lost as far as when we can expect everything, like 45nm and X38 specifically. And when you say Q3 what do you mean? Actual quarters starting in January? Or fiscal year quarters? In which case this would be Q3.
I have read some conflicting reports on the X38, one saying there would be a DDR2 and 3 version, and another saying only DDR3.

http://fanboyreview.blogspot.com/200...tels-next.html
Anyone have any info on this? Any info on when I can expect the board? 45nm quads :D
And yes I will be overclocking and posting results here, the money is ready
Sorry I only read the first page. This board has no bios switch for vdroop or its not working? Is it working on the deluxe?
3 Important Updates:
- Vdroop Pencil mod from above image WORKS >>>> before mod bios vcore 1.35, windows idle 1.288-1.296, windows load 1.24v >>> AFTER MOD, windows idle 1.304-1.312, load 1.28v (DID two strokes with 2B pencil)
- Attention attention >>> i cannot boot with any of my PC4200 RAM with this motherboard >>> that is why it seems i couldn't get it going in first place >>> dominators i have are 8500 and 10000 and they work fine but none of the other sticks will boot regardless of what i do or set in bios>>> i;ve even combined with dominators and nah it won't work :( >>> You have to understand that my PC4200 RAM is all Micron D9GCT or D9GMH and can easily do 550-600MHz CAS5/4 :(:(:(:(:(
- SetFSB works >>> HERE IS THE SCREENSHOT DUMP abo-san

man that has such a different meaning where we come from dinos22 :) hahahahaQuote:

- vMCH: 1.55V set in bios
- RAM Timings set in bios: 5-5-5-15-10-42-10-10-10
The idea behind the test is to quickly test max clocks on above settings for all RAM Ratios available in bios to see if any of them have a problem..........
i was able to use SetFSB up to 407MHz FSB after which i was forced to boot to windows direct from bios on some of the lower ratios so i also ran 4M and 8M SuperPI to give you an idea that it clearly had more MHz in the runs to max out at 1M ;)
1) 1:2 RATIO ~605MHz 1M SuperPI Max

2) 3:5 RATIO ~610MHz 1M SuperPI Max

3) 5:16 RATIO ~535MHz 1M SuperPI Max ******So this one is problematic

4) 2:3 RATIO ~605MHz 1M SuperPI Max
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/486...5551510gt1.png
5) 4:5 RATIO No SetFSB here so booted 600MHz on RAM and did 1M/4M/8M SuperPI

Re: Intel chipset driver 8.3.0.1011.
There's an "intel_inf_8.4.0.1010 beta" available.
Intel Matrix Raid: "intel_msm_7.5.0.1017 Final WHQL"
And JMicron driver "Jmicro_jmb36xx.1.17.17whql" .
All at: www.station-drivers.com.
Could you post a screenshot of your Windows Device Manager, with these categories expanded:
IDE/ATAPI Controllers
SCSI and Raid Controllers
System Devices
And, did you attempt to enable SATA "AHCI mode", either on JMicron or Intel port?
Note: if updating Intel Inf drivers, running the .EXE installer won't update to the newer drivers.
Must be manually updated for each device.
I looked over this post real quick as im on lunch break, any reason to upgrade to one of these from Bad Axe 2? I was comparing my 32m scores with Dinos's comparison of 3-3-3-9 and my scores were still a bit faster than this board.
So any real advantage? Besides DDR3 and Penryn? I will probably wait till penryns release and some new boards hit the market and go from there, but any input on this would be appreciated :)
i have no PC5300 sticks but i will change SPD on the sticks and see if that helps..........maybe someone can tell me how do change SPD
sorry mate have to check into this
don't comapre results yet as subtimings are always really loose during initial testing.............once i get memset it will be a different story and should be on par with your mobo (not faster i don't think)
your dominators 8500 and 10000 wich chip have?
i have 2x1gb OCZ VX2 DDR2 PC2-8000 / 1000 MHz 4\4\4\15 / Titanium Alpha / Voltage eXtreme 2.. do you think that i have problems with the p5k?
Could someone test "under" ratios or unlinked mode or what ever they call it on this mobo? ...it might be very useful to be able to set memory for example to 5:4 ...so fsb would be then 500MHz and memory 400MHz. If this works you could pretty much max out E6320 7x multi cpu, with not so good clockin´ cheap memory ...really wouldn´t wanna buy a 650i SLI mobo for this reason. Cheapest possible quality components and the highest possible OC ...isn´t that what this is all about.... atleast for poor students :)
I would like to see the board max fsb with some extreme cooling on the cpu, any chache testing that dinos?
I like your tests so far, nice work :toast:
that's not going to happen on P965 nor P35 >>> these chipsets don't support ratios under 1:1
max FSB is more of a CPU thing that motherboard i reckon >>> this E6600 seems max benchable around 520MHz FSB on air.................judging by my E6300 which went under dry ice and jumped another 30-35MHz i'd say it would probably be a similar case with this one
i don't understand cache testing question though
dinos22 is this mobo????
ASUS P5K, P35 (dual PC2-6400U DDR2) € 143.90 ?
sorry if this question was asked before but it long 6 pages to read, any way what i wanted to ask
is it really that the CPU is 200C+ or there is a problem with the sensor??
dinos: please run everest and printscreen which senzors are active...
hehe, I will get the board tomorrow, and will test w/ Kentsfield Q6600 :toast:
Does this board have 3-phase power? The p5k deluxe has 8-phase power, and the Gigabyte p35 dq6 has 12-phase power. Phases will obviously make the CPU voltage more smooth in delivery which is what quad cores need.
Ive not seen any specs concerning the p5k vanilla, but in the pictures Ive seen I can only see 3 PWM in the place where the higher end boards have their heatpipes.
Dinos check out SPDTOOL for changing the SPD on your ram. There's a thread on the forums for the tool somewhere on here.
Just one thing, does this board have droop, or do you just think it has droop? Drop != droop...I can attest to the droop mod being not only unnecessary but also unhealthy in the case of the Commando.
do i just think??
i have supplied info that it has both drop and droop
drop >>> 1.35v bios set >>> 1.304-1.312 idle so there is considerable drop there
when i put it under load with SmallFFTs vcore droops to 1.28v (this is even after doing 2 strokes with 2B pencil which improved things as it used to droop to 1.24v
NOW these are all AISuite and CPUz figures so i have not yet double checked with DMM
so while i know there is droop i would still like to double check with DMM as soon as someone provides with read points
great stuff dinos. Keep up the good work ;)
sensor problem yeap :)
i've never used that spftware as i don't like it...........if you are trying to determine the temps i've posted Coretemp......:)
nice looking forward to a quad test on one of these :)
My P5K DLX doesn't boot at all. :(
Have tried many things, Cellshock PC8000 SPD's (got that SPD-mod from The Stilt) but it doesn't help. X300SE in both PCI-E, tested PCI-card in all 3 slots, with single RAM etc.. SATA drive in all SATA ports, IDE drive...nothing helps to boot.
:wth:
I'll send my MoBo back to The Stilt and get another one next week.
My p5K dlx run OCZ pc 9200 at 1205 MHZ with 2.2v !!!!! :-)) the x6800 work at around same speed that my sh... commando (3800)
By the way, if i put more than 1.4V in NB, i have errors on test5 in memtest.
Cooled with original heat pipe but put AS5...Strange !
Bios is 304.
Problem is i can't monitor DDR voltage, ai suite don't work with vista and probe don't whow many things.... Regret on this with commando.
Conclusion: this mobo is not bad, sure i can go higher with ram but as many kits have been burned with the commando, i wait and see if in 2 month it work like today !!
(timings are in auto in bios for ram)
Just for info purposes, the Asus P5K3 Deluxe WiFi Intel P35 DDR3 Motherboard is now on sale in the UK.
Sucky thing is the Corsair DDR3 Ram ETA is 25th May 07 see this thread:- http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=143879
My Asus P5k will be delivered on Tues....Thanks to eWIZ!
This is my speculation. The p5k has 6-phase power (I cant see any specs yet but just guess by counting the chips where half are cooled). The p5k deluxe has 8-phase and is written this way in the specs if u google it. The gigabyte p35 dq6 ( & p965 dq6 incidentally) have 12-phase power. Also a bit of folklore is that quads require even more stable cpu voltage regulation than 6-phase allows.
My conclusion is that a 6-phase p35 would have questionable overclocking results with quad cores. Thats my opinion until proven otherwise.
hopefully not, arent these boards suppose to support penryn?? ... if they do that , they just shot themselves in the foot
thanks will do
err how do you figure it's slow >> did you test one
what are you counting exactly
also don't forget Penryn will not be a power hog like current Kents so it probably won't impact it too much
One thing i have about higher phase motherboards is that they get nasty hot......it sucks :(
i think one member here will test it soon with a Quad so we'll know what to expect i guess :)
mi ddr2 works fine... now i'm stable at 500x6 1\1 (orthos) do you have tried the latest bios for the p5k?
P5K Bios file (Version 0405)
1. Increase
BOOT_BLOCK_COMPATIABLE_VERSIONn to 3
2. Revise [RAS# Activate to Precharge] option items.
3. Generate a full reset if FSB of dual-core CPU is overclocked more than 500MHz.
4. Added [Relax level] and it will display while [Transaction Booster] is Disabled.
5. Updated some of DIMM checksum value and defautl setting to 2.0v.
i dont' understand this:
3. Generate a full reset if FSB of dual-core CPU is overclocked more than 500MHz ??
Hi guys,
I've bought a p5k deluxe and I'm testing right now
1,385 in bios gives 1,352 in windows load this with voltage damper enabled in bios.
here are my results ate the moment and I'm still running orthos
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/7749/p5k520po8.jpg
Ps: Does anyone know what is the transaction booster option in bios , and what is does? And cpu and pcie spread spectrum options should thet be enabled or disabled?
Thanks
i have the p5k And i have set to disable cpu - pcie spread spectrum options .
the voltage dumper on p5k no works!and i don't understand why!
do you have tried the latest bios?
I'm using the 0304 bios.
Thanks Dino:D , BWT do you know where i can find the pencil mod to dlx version?
P5K Deluxe doesn't need pencil mod -> http://i4memory.com/showpost.php?p=65590&postcount=3 :)
the voltage dumper on p5k no works!and i don't understand why!do you think that is a bios problem?
I have got a 2 GB Kit Cellshock DDR2-1000 CL4 and a P5K Deluxe and it did not post either.
So i tried my 2 GB DDR2-1000 CL5 Crucial Ballistix Tracer Kit and ONLY changed the tRAS (Ras# Activate to preacharge) value from default 9 to 15.
Put in the Cellshock again and it did post - only one memory timing changed in the bios setup !!!
If i only had the the Cellshock - i would have been fu**ed.
oh my god pretender!! sell me that cpu!! amazing! what's the week
my 4x1gb of crucial d9gmh are working fine on the board @ 415fsb so far.
2x1gb corsair 5300c4 promos were no hassle too.
1:1 is the lowest
I have some questions regarding the boot behaviour.
In what way does the boot but affect the board? How does a cold boot look like and what about a windows restart? And finally, how does it behave after BIOS changes? Does it affect the whole FSB range? My P5WD2 Premium does that when the FSB is 243 or higher, only.
Did anybody with DDR2-533 have success with a working combo? What about a new BIOS?
My P5K does at default settings 450FSB.
I have sucess running my Micron DDR2-533 running at 1220Mhz cl5-5-5-15 2,5V. :)
I used "Thaiphoon Burner 3.1" (http://cbid.amdclub.ru/) to change the SPD to DDR2-667 and it worked.
I tried my Infineon Sticks DDR2-533, they won't work. I tried to give them a DDR2-667 or DDR2-800 SPD by using thaiphoon burner and have no sucess.
So everbody who can't use the DDR2-533 sticks:
1. save the SPD using thaiphoon burner
2. edit the SPD to minimum DDR2-667
3. reboot and enjoy your new sticks ;)

:slapass: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I just flashed my bios from windows to 0304 bios , because my board wasn't booting below 500 fsb and now it won't post :S i've tried clear rtc ram like it says in the manual, but it won't boot.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
you can reduce vdroop like eva2000 did.. in cpu setting -> Cpu voltage damper -> enable
you don´t understand!!
I can't even access to bios, it powers up and thats it, the screen stays black and the normal boot procedure doesn't happen, it won't POST:slapass:
you board wasn't booting below 500MHz FSB
i'm on 0304 bios as well and everything seems a ok
Weird, It wasn't booting and i was ready to sent it to RMA, and i put a floppy in the floppy drive, the floppy and the board booted, the floppy didn't had the bios, so i don't understand what happened, but i'm happy again because my board is alive:toast: :toast: :toast:
Hi again ;P
I just find out why i could't boot under 500fsb, if i have the transaction booster option enabled and set to 1 i couldn't boot under 500.
If that option is in auto mode i can boot under 500:toast:
oktavius
Dear friend, did you use the Timing Table Editor in Thaiphoon Burner to edit the SPD? I ask you because the easiest way to change the highest RAM clock in the SPD is to use TTE instead of Thaiphoon’s HEX Editor. Just press F9 and begin changing the first Cycle Time parameter. Than press Next button and select the final step.
Danke sehr! ;-)
Maybe memory or NB couldn't handle it ?? especially if he was using AUTO or low volt settings ???
