Yeah you'll lose the 980X support if you flash to the 0006 BIOS which is the only BIOS that has power limit disable function.
Yeah i know it pissed me off too.

Damn, so are Gulftowners just screwed? I had the impression that Asus boards were pretty good for OCing. :(
After i update too 2101 Bios and with keeping the same OC settings in my bios i get BSOD in Windows 7 and system restarts. I will try 1904 and 1804 versions to see if i will have the same problems. I have to use 1804 and later version though because i have an i7 930 sitting next to me and i want to install it. Now i am using an 920 C0 Revision.
So does anyone know if Asus ever resolved this issue with the 980x?
Did anyone have to flash the bios for an i7-930?
I have an i7-930 and my board wont post.
@ jVIDIA use i7 turbo to see if it throttles... and i dont think bios 0006 supports the 930...
I think it suports ..... I'm actually with the 0006 bios @ 21x200bclk with a 930 ;)
It's Linx stable with 1,33vCore @ bios.
Any news about a non-throttling bios for 980X?
Hey Quad my man!
This makes me believe the throttling is maybe hardware (mobo) related because I run up to 4.5GHz 24/7 loaded on my P6X58D and it never throttles. If the P6X bios throttles on the P6T series it would suggest it's an actual hardware issue. :(
What ya reckon?
Also, maybe give P6X58D Bios 0808 a try, it's a fair bit better than 0703 and previous, IMO.
EDIT: But on second thought, if the 0006 bios fixes the throttling it must be software...hmm...
Anyone fancy some Bios modding?
Hi i want to know if this motherboard fits the xonar d2x without problem in the first pcix-x4.
with official bios was getting throttling with W3520 @ 4750mhz, to get past this, bios 0006 (disable power limit) was needed and did a great job holding high mhz with no throttling..
http://j.imagehost.org/0257/4825_linx_20_pass_b.jpg
Can you tell me how long the crossfire brigde must be if you want to crossfire with this motherboard?i think that the standard crossfire bridge is not long enough.
One year on and still throttling. I feel bad for folks who are still seeing the throttling. I think I made the right move by moving away from Asus and buying Evga instead. No throttling there and board clocks like hot knife through butter!
does the throttling also occur with P6TD Dlx boards? im gonna switch to water cooling next week so i hope i don't find myself limited by it :p:
and another thing, does the modded bios 0006 support xeon w3520 series processors? thanks!
Are there any i7-980X Gulftown owners trying to use this board and still having throttling issues?
I've just added a new feature to a program I've been working on for a while called ThrottleStop. If you run this program and right click on it, there should be a menu option called Turbo Power Limit. If you have an Extreme CPU that supports this feature, you might be able to increase the TDP and TDC limits for your CPU on the fly. With any luck, maybe there will be no more turbo throttling when trying to push an i7-980X hard on this board.
ThrottleStop 2.70
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/3/...leStopBeta.zip
This new feature is in the very early stages of testing so let me know if this solves anything. When you first open the Turbo Power Limit window, it should show you the default TDP / TDC values for your CPU. I'm hoping that increasing those values might encourage the CPU to keep delivering full turbo boost rather than throttling.
The Intel publicly available documentation is non-existent and I don't own an i7-980X so it's possible there might be a minor bug or two that needs to be fixed up. Post some screen shots if you have this combo so I can have a look.
Edit: The first test on a Core i7-940XM mobile CPU shows that this new feature increases power consumption and reduces the amount of turbo throttling. Hopefully it does the same on the Core i7-980X.
interesting unclewebb... so it is only possible to solve the tdp/tdc limits on the intel xtreme series? with that in mind, would this be a cpu limitation and not a bios/motherboard one, like it was thought in this thread? thanks for the feedback!
I don't know yet how many CPUs will allow you to adjust the turbo TDP/TDC settings or if the motherboard has to co-operate and unlock this feature. The i7-980X should support this feature but probably not the i7-920. Some of the mobile Core i5 Dual Cores seem to have this capability as well as the K series of desktop CPUs like the 655K and 875K.
If you run ThrottleStop and right click on it, TS will show you the default TDP/TDC turbo limits for your CPU. If the adjusters are unlocked, you will be able to increase your turbo TDP / TDC limits.
The laptop guys on Notebook Review are having a field day with this new feature. It's helped 5150Joker unlock his Alienware M17x and his Vantage CPU Score jumped by over 20% from 16700 to 20500.
I just hope this feature is useful for the i7-980X problems on this board.
Anyone know what the safe limits are for the i7-980x for TDP/TDC?
nice app! it sometimes crashes my system though, but it is looking to be a very powerful tool for when i get my water up and runing :D
that's some whooping performance increase  congrats!!
I am having stability problems with 203 blck and higher . It is old deluxe v1 with 2101 bios . Mine i7 950 was stable on ud5 209x23 , but with this board no luck over 203. It doesn't matter how much cpu voltage i use or any other.
I tried everything i know . So could someone recommend me the best bios for deluxe v1 and give me download link. Thx.
0006 was a popular bios for the P6T Deluxe v1 boards.

throttleing at 210x21 1.43v :(
can i mod my P6TD Deluxe to 0006 modded bios? i am using a xeon w3520.
thnx!
--- never mind, was using turbo ---
OK, I've been playing around with 0006 and I've added the CPU MicroCode from 2101 along with the newest DSDT (there were some minor differences).
If someone wants to test it with a 980x and see if it's stopped the throttling it might help people out. :)
I take no responsbility if it bricks your board but I don't think it will. Please ensure you have a method of restore before you try it though. :)

Does the P6X58D-E also throttle under load like the P6T series?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...1&Tpk=P6X58D-E
guys, since i discovered that i don't seem to understand this Turbo matter, i wanted to ask you if it is a normal behavior of my xeon to throttle at 4.4GHz (21x210) with 1.4v, more precisely: multiplier drops gradually back to 20 (on prime small fft's)....
i've also noticed that on the cpu settings of my bios the turbo settings are missing...
is there a way to circumvent this?
as i type i'm also trying to get bclk higher than 214 stable with no luck yet :(
tried with last stable volts... and 205x21 (im actually not throttling at the 214x20, and used exact same stable settings for 205x21):

It's normal for the Asus P6T series of motherboards to turbo throttle when you try to push them hard like you are doing. Most other X58 boards decided to ignore this Intel CPU feature. As CPU power consumption, current consumption or temperature goes over a pre-defined limit, the Asus P6T boards are designed so that the CPU will rapidly start to cycle turbo boost on and off hundreds of times a second to keep from going over one or more of these limits. The 20.57 average multiplier that ThrottleStop is showing you indicates that turbo boost is working approximately 57% of the time when it would be nice if it was working 100% of the time.
I think users have flashed your board with the special 0006 bios to get rid of this throttling problem. Any generally available bios from the Asus website will have this same throttling problem. Asus created the special 0006 bios for enthusiasts that wanted to get the most out of their CPU with less chance of throttling.
Can you right click on ThrottleStop and bring up the TDP/TDC option? I'm curious to see what numbers it shows for your CPU. Hopefully someone with the 0006 bios can also post the same information. On the Extreme CPUs, you should be able to adjust the turbo TDP/TDC values to get rid of the turbo throttling but I don't think any of the non-Extreme CPUs support that feature. I'm not sure about the Xeon processors and this feature. The TDP/TDC adjusters will be locked and not adjustable if the CPU doesn't support this option.

double post, never mind
thanks unclewebb for the detailed explanation... really, it helped a lot!
for my xeon w3520 D0: tdp is 130W and tdc is 110A (btw, the values where locked as you stated).
i am reluctant to try the 0006 bios cause of the possible difference that may exist between the P6T Deluxe v1/v2 and P6TD Deluxe... I'm also not very confident on this bios's xeon support.
supposedly the P6TD Dlx should actually be a P6T Dlx v2 with added cooper for better overclocking... i also heard from a forum member, that the vrm structure is actually the same as what u can find in v2 and thus making the crossflash a viable option, but i'm still not very convinced. can anybody acknowledge this? if it is true that they are "almost" the same, then i might just give it a go

P6T Deluxe
P6T Deluxe v2 = Marvell SAS Removed
P6TD Deluxe = Same as v2 but with more copper in its PCB. Asus calls this Xtreme Design.
[take from here]
I know earlier in this thread angelreaper cross flashed his P6T Deluxe v2 with the P6TD Deluxe bios 0106 and then he also cross flashed that same board with 0006.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=1187
That doesn't 100% prove that you can go backwards and use 0006 on a P6TD Deluxe but it seems like these are interchangeable if you cross flash.
A Senior Moderator on OverClock.net owns a P6TD Deluxe and claims 0006 can be cross flashed to his board but his sig shows he is presently using bios 0501.
You might want to try and contact him for more info.
http://www.overclock.net/7653937-post7.html
The 130W/110A is the standard Intel spec. I'm not sure if bios 0006 modifies these numbers or has some other trick so these numbers are ignored and turbo boost continues without throttling.
thanks! will try contacting him and then proceed with the crossflash... after that i'll report back with some results.
i knew i should have bought a gigabyte board to start with.. must be the eyecandy asus puts into their design's :p
anyway, at least this board's bios isn't soldered, so if anything should go terribly wrong i would be able to get it re-flashed.
thanks again for all the info
well... i can finally say, after tons of cold sweat, that it IS POSSIBLE to crossflash P6TD Deluxe to P6T Deluxe 0006 modded bios.
http://a.imageshack.us/img408/8135/p...cflash0006.jpg
didn't test anything yet, and as you can see, i didn't even set the dram timings yet but, everything looks as if it is working properly.
kudos to Unclewebb and Robilar (overclock.net) for all the help, this wouldn't have been possible without any of them
ok, i've been able to test some and the conclusion is that BIOS 0006 was 100% SUCCESSFUL in disabling THROTTLING in ASUS P6TD Deluxe (rev 1.00 (?) -> the one without FLOPPY connector (this is NOT the 1.02G), as i didn't test with it).

Any BIOS out there that stops throttling for 32nm 6-core Xeons?
I love the P6T, but I'm really tired of it limiting my L5640 to a 17X multi instead of the 19X Turbo multi.
Not yet but you can try my mod bios posted a bit higher up ^^^ ?
I have not. It passed all checksum tests and recompiled fine so I don't see why it would cause any problems but I can't take responsibility if it bricks your board. I do believe you can recover though?
Might give it a try. I got so sick of the P6T throttle issues that I got an eVGA X58 SLI and really am not too tempted to go back.
Same here, different reasons but same here. P6X58D to Classified. I'll never go back now.
Back on topic, if it works, let us know in here so other people can benefit or I can remove the link. :)
Just cross-flashed my P6TD Deluxe with the P6X58D Premium 0813 BIOS.
Some issues I've run into:
- USB 1&2 default to a USB 3.0 controller that does not exist on the P6T line, making the devices connected to them non-funtional, and the system unstable until the devices are moved. I've disabled the USB 3 controller, but haven't checked to see if ports 1&2 work yet.
- The Marvell drive controller that the rear eSATA and PATA ports are connected to is apparently at a different bus location than the Marvell controller on an actual P6X58D, meaning that disabling it in BIOS does nothing (it's always on).
- Like the PATA controller, the ASUS ExpressGate isn't attached where it is on a real P6X58D, meaning that ExpressGate doesn't work. However, the internal USB port it's connected to does work, and it defaults to the first removable boot device; you must switch/disable this device in order to boot.
On the plus side, the ExpressGate SSD is no longer hidden from the system (shows up as a USB flash drive), so you can wipe it and put whatever you want on it.
http://www.overclock.net/gallery/dat...xpressGate.png
As per Vodka's testing above, I also test flashed the P6TD Deluxe over to the 0006 bios.
Works without any side effects or issues here as well.
I flashed my P6TD Deluxe with the 0006 v1 bios and I can now overclock my i7 950 to 4.2 GHz, no more throttling problems. Nevertheless, I encounter a random stability : 4.2 Ghz passed on LinX 15 times (32 minutes) and on the Everest stability tool during 1 h. OCCT failed after a few minutes.
I switched off my PC then turned it on, launched LinX again and an error appears after 2 min 9 s !
Why this difference in stability ? 32 minutes LinX + 1 h Everest stability tool both seem reliable ? Are you in face of the same behaviour with LinX ? Or is the motherboard responsible for ? Because it will be impossible to determine a stable frequency if stability tools show such discrepancies !
I forgot to mention that I never applied high voltages (Vcpu=1.4 V max, Vqpi=1.325 V max, Vram= 1.62 V max) and the CPU temperature did not exceed 72°C, so that the components are not damaged.
@overclock: now that u mention this i was also experiencing some random lockups recently...
there where 2 things that i had to fix: first was, memory (sub)timings. second, bump vQPI from 1.3250 to 1.3500v...
those two steps seem to have brought stability back to my system. hope it helps!
---
Never mind, didn't work... got a random lockup again... run a memtest to be sure it wasn't a memory related issue but 2 passes showed no signs of errors.
anyone else experiencing this kind of issues (random instability with previous stable settings)?
Hello .
My P6TD deluxe is crossflashed with bios 0006 but now it is impossible to go back to original bios because the original bios is not identified as compatible bios !!!
:eek::eek::eek:
How can i do ?
thanking you in advance .
Just use the same dos tool that you used to do the cross flash ;)
Don't use the bios ezflash feature
Thank you very much .
I would love to see my vanilla p6t with a similar 0006 bios though I doubt it will happen so I guess it is time to fire up this RampageIII extreme.
No more P6T Deluxe 1v/v2 bios news ?! :(
Booooringgggggggggg :D
Yes it's a shame :(
It would be wonderfull to have someone to mod bios for this boards.
:D
is this thread dead? anyone know whats the latest stable bios?
For P6T Deluve v2 is the 1003.
;)
any new modded bios for tdp/tdc unlocking?
0006 works but has the infamous x20 multiplier bug :(
NEW Asus P6T Deluxe V2 BIOS 1108:

does bios setting "CPU Differential Amplitude" help to overclock?
is 800mv safe? how much motherboard sets in AUTO mode?
Bios 2209 says it take the Extreme 980X cpu.. Anyone confirm this with a Asus P6T Deluxe (V1) version??
is it safe to leave QPI voltage higher than CPU voltage?
Some new options are available under CPU configuration in the new bios (1108) mostly related to CPU power management (C states management, ACPI, etc). Using Ci7 920 and P6T Deluxe v2.
I've been away from the forums the last six months so I didn't see this post until now.
Anyway, I've got a 980X on a P6T Deluxe V2 that I'm running at 5GHz with the help of a Vapo LS.
But I've been really annoyed by the fact that it throttles as soon as I put some load on all cores!
I have downloaded your ThrottleStop program and will try it out when I get home tomorrow!
boy my P6T was a beast. took my 930to 5.3, but unfortunately I had to buy the dang X58D premium BIOS for slowmode :(
for those that dont know you can flash the p6t ws bios and kill the throttling on the p6t deluxe and also use the p6x58 bios for slow mode. I have a p6t deluxe board that will do 253bclk without the slow mode bios, tried it and didnt gain anything but that is still pretty nice for this old timer.
here is a link to some testing from a genious

guys..I have a freind needs some help with his P6T ( overlocking) Im totally unfamilier with the asus bios..I need something like a bios template for 4.0 ( all settings in the bios ) i7930...6 gigs 1600 ram.
he has a crappy titan cpu cooler I just found out...we are at 3.885 basiclly 21x185 at 1.29 volts but OCCT crashes with cpu heat warning.. hitting 81c... I just sent him to 1.28 vcore...and he will call me back in an hour if it passes or before if it fails again with heat... anyhelp will be cool if you can point me towards the settings for thermal throttleing, cpu throttleing etc...something that is going to maintain the cpu OC without it thottleing down and up etc...and or a bios template showing settings....doing all this on the phone is kinda hard...so having something to referance would be nice. ( yea I could do all the searching true, but im kinda pressed for time...phone call is long distance :) )
hm quick scans saying this board tends to throttle anyways....ok cool... what im wondering( since temps are so high besides bad contact not so good cpu cooler etc) so far..Ive only been working with vcore, since its such a low oc...and everything else basically set to auto..voltage wise..anything in particular that would maybe over volt a bit too much with auto settings and working only vcore?
got things figured out... decided to just go with my basic OC settings I normally use... ;)
but his cpu cooler sucks..lol 1.2685 for 21x190 still hitting 78-79c ... but mid 50s to 60c for gaming...

Hello folks.
Does anyone here suffers from "bios settings lost" on their P6T Deluxe when booting up after unplugging the power cord from the wall ?
My P6T Deluxe V2 started to do that "trick" on me some times.
I've search that on the web and there are alot of people with this problem.
If no power cord is unplugged then all is ok.
Anyone ? Any ideas how to solve it ?
i'll try and let you know, though i'm not sure if my board will be able replicate your problem.
btw, my bios now is the modded 0006 one.
---
edit: Nopes... cant replicate it. for how long did you leave the power cord unplugged?
i asume that u checked the boards 3.3v battery already. if not, that should be the culprit.
My bios is also the 0006. My signature is wrong ;)
The battery is not the cause. At least judging from other people that have replaced it and the problem continues.
As this is a random event, I canot say how much time it needs to be unpluged to do that.
To some folks it happens always and it only needs to be unpluged a few seconds.
As I said in my case it seems to be still a random event.
There are also reports that it occours more with some types of vga cards !!
No one as proved it yet.
Just search Asus suport forum and you will see what I mean.
EDIT: signature updated.
hmm that's one weird bug to have.....
figured low battery wasn't the case... specially if you say that it is a random occurrence.
mind you that our BIOS's might be the same but i still own a P6TD Dlx wich is somewhat different from the P6T Dlx v2....
thats why I thought, at first, that it would be difficult for me to replicate the problem... still if, as u say, it's random i'll have to wait...
anyhow, it better not be contagious
btw, are you able to use asus oc profiles to restore your previous bios settings? should be a life saver
Yes I can and use that.
P6T Deluxe (v1) I think also is reported to do this, and this "bug" is reported since 2009 !!
See it here: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us
must be a design flaw.. if so, there's nothing to do about it, so there's also no point in worrying about it..
cheer up mate, you will be buying a new system in less than you think !! at least that's how i fix those kind of bugs
Hey PPL
does anyone has problems with 2209 bios on P6Tdlx(v1)???????
After updating my rig with that bios i'm trying to install Windows ... and already 3 days i'm getting BSOD !!!!!!!!!!!! i have checked and recheked everything tried both versions of Win 7 ult. x64 (vanilla and SP1) both original MS images.
but i can't find what crushes my OS......after this 3-4 days i got left only 3 variants:
1. last bios 2209 - does any one has problems with it ?
2. CPU drivers - i7-920 without OC, last inf upd driver installed.
also last ATI drivers were installed 11.2 (hd4830), but i don't think that there is problem with them.
Any suggestions ?
So as I can say, for my case:
YES! 2209 BIOS upd. for P6T DLX (v1) is UNSTABLE
After downgrade to 2101, i had no BSODs at all. I didn't reinstall windows or anything else on it. Downgraded bios only.
My rig is not OCed at all. everything is on it's default.
Check my hardware in sig. only X.M.P. profile configured for RAM
has anybody been able to make Intel Extreme Tuning Utility work on P6T / P6T Deluxe v1 / v2 / P6TD Deluxe ?
Is anyone here using an OCZ Revodrive x2 240gb pci-e drive and using it as a boot drive (Win7 64bit Pro) with their Asus P6T Deluxe v1.
I have been using BIOS 1611 since 2009 with no issues at all. It looks like BIOS 2101 has been shown to work with the Revodrive.
I currently have 2 x 60gb OCZ Vertex SSD's in Raid0 as my Win7 64bit OS primary drive. I only use this for 3D and HD video editing using Sony Vegas Pro 11 and Cyberlink's PowerDirector 10.
Theoretically, the Revodrive should make my render times 3X faster.
Need your input on this please before I take the plunge and buy the Revodrive :)
My old P6T Deluxe has developed an intermittent problem that's going to make me throw in the towel and trash this motherboard.
Several times, maybe as many as 6 times, the system date-time has reset back to 0:00:01 AM 1/1/2002. I guessed this was the cmos battery so I got a new one and changed it. Since changing the battery it has done it again.
Any ideas?
I hate this board, it's POS. Took forever to get windows installed, and Asus probe = crap. Got sick and :banana::banana::banana:ing tired of AI nap; it would go to sleep and require a reboot.
Best board i ever owned. still going strong "v2" been running @ 4200 1.35v since Jan, 2010 zero problems.
did anyone have problems with 24pin atx adapter?
mine melted when i upgraded my HD 6850 CFx to a single GTX 680.
I never had the kind of problems you are describing. Never melted anything!
I have this board (ASUS P6T Deluxe v2) since September 2009 with an i7 920 D0 running at 4.0Ghz at 1.32375 Vcore. No problems whatsoever! Updated BIOS to official v1108 on Saturday because I upgraded my HDD to 3ΤΒ Seagate HDD and the BIOS (v903) I had before only recognized HDD's up to 2.2TB. Do you know if there is a BIOS that support BOOT in UEFI mode for ASUS P6T Deluxe v2?
I had to split the HDD in two partitions because If I have to use the 3TB to boot from, it can only be of maximum 2TB size, if you cannot boot in UEFI mode...
well does anyone still remember what the max vIOH was for 24/7 OC?
my uncore is asking for 1.32v for the IOH (bclk 210, uncore 3356, QPI 3775, RAM 1680MHZ 6-8-7-24 1T) to be stable. as i dont own a IR thermometer, i'm adrift in misty waters here. the IOH, heatspreader doesn't seem to get too hot, but i can be wrong.
as for KostasNK comment: i was running way higher clocks. 4.4ghz, to be precise. and i also did Linx 20pass 5250MB runs for stable 4.5GHz. i think the 12v pin on the ATX24pin melted for those reasons. it's a common issue. actually, more related to EVGA boards. but it is still pretty common if you go beyond certine threshold.
