I like 1306. I've tried all of them from 1201 to 1402. All of them are good, but somehow I stuck with 1306. If I were you I would try the most recent BIOS first (1402).

I don't think it's too high, but I won't be going past 1.4v. I got a bad chip, unfortunately. VID is 1.2500 and it's one of the worst E8600's you'll find around here.

Yes sir, CD will work great. Alternatively, you could use a USB thumb drive if you have one.
One small point, you may want to rename the BIOS files. When you're actually in the current BIOS looking through the files you may find the names are truncated. I rename them to the BIOS number: 1201m, 1306m, 1402m, and so on. Just makes life a little easier.

Damn its hard to get my E8200 stable @ 4000mhz.U need to be a Ainstain to understand this bios and all settings:P
May its that i have a C0 stepping so its hard to o/c or i have missed some setting in bios that makes my cpu stabel.

Thats probably FSB limitation, or maybe you need to do more tweaking on the nb/vfsb...

Try:
CPU PLL Voltage at 1.54v.
FSB Termination Voltage at 1.20.
NB Voltage at 1.26v.
Something I noticed:
I was running BIOS ver 12.01 with NO problems. Prime95 stable at 10x420 multiple times and got me to the point where I would try enabling C1E or Speedstep to reduce heat and energy. After doing so, this is what I noticed:
1. No change in voltage when idle with either C1E or Speedstep enabled or any combination. This I learned was normal for ASUS boards that are overclocked.
2. I have a startup program for my NEC monitor that sets gamma level etc. This app always showed problems on startup whenever my PC was even the slightest bit unstable. Prior to the C1E and Speedstep testing this app never had the slightest problem once I got to 24x7 stable settings. During the testing though, this app started having problems again...consistently.
3. After disabling C1E and Speedstep and thus being back to my original settings, I expected the NEC startup app to behave again. It did not. Consistently showing problems and it still is. The only way I was able to stop the problem with this app was to raise my CPUFSB voltage from what I had set before (1.16) to 1.24. Unfortunately, this was not consistent and the NEC app still occasionally has problems. No setting I have found for this, even changing other setting voltages has resolved this to date. Even going from BIOS 12.01 (which was stable) to 13.06 did not change the behavior at all.
So, I have to conclude that something by way of trying out C1E or Speedstep has thrown something really out of whack. I mean 100% consistent to this? I think ASUS has some real BIOS bug or something and it needs to be addressed. This is my second P5Q-E board and my previous also had weird instability with that NEC app that went away with changes to FSB voltage...I just hadn't nailed down anything consistent and after trial and error had gotten the new board so darn stable it was shocking to me, especially with the previous board's behavior.
Just wanted to let all of you know what I found.
there are many known issues with using C1E and speedstep at the same time. basically you arent supposed to be using them both at the same time.
i dont see how C1E can harm anything as all it does is switch multipliers, thats all. speedstep mighta messed with your windows or maybe even your bios. a clean reflash and a reinstall of windows probrobly woulda solved that.
glad the new board is running better then the last, stay away from speedstep ;)
Guys, I'm not an overclocker instead a silence/underclocker freak.
I've tried all BIOS-es (including Ket's modified). Now I'm on 1402m. I have C1E/EIST/C-State Tech enabled in BIOS and I use EPU software to underclock/undervolt and overclock.
This is in idle/browsing.

All I want to say is that (at least until some point) this MB is perfect stable with C1E/EIST/C-State Tech enabled and EPU software running.
Thanks for the reply. I know all the warnings about C1E and speedstep but had 0 problems with it on my previous rigs, once I got a stable 24x7 setup. BTW, C1E in a default setup is supposed to lower voltage, not just multiplier.
It didn't mess with my OS in this case as clocking things down a bit allows the NEC app to work no problem. So, a clean OS install not needed. However, I will next clear CMOS and remove battery as a try to get back to my once stable settings.
I actually feel lucky to have the NEC app cuz it flags instability before having to sit out Prim95 for hours. :)
That's great with pretty conservative settings. Maybe at your particular FSB, voltage, and other settings it is stable but it wiped out what was once a great setup for me. :mad:
BTW, my definition of stable are not quick runs of benching...I use hours of Prime95 blend to make that determination. :D
I had no idea C1E and Speedstep were not supposed to be used together. I use both. So which one should I disable? I like my system to be clocked down when idle, it's a nice feature.

PS: I already tried to RMA this board. It has a faulty DIMM slot, but OCUK won't take it back. They tested it, sent it back to me and charged me £21 just to be told there's no problem, which is actually not true as the issue is causing problems again, as it has been for the last month. Conclusion: avoid OCUK like the plague.
