I need a spot of help, can someone point out to me where I can measure the RAM voltages for the X58 boards? Specific model being the UD5. I measured everything I could find but didn't spot anything that was close to the RAM voltages at the time.
My UD5 managed to cook the memory controllers on my 920 and the CPU is now almost useless, I'm not very happy and it has proven to be a :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: of a time to figure out. Given I stayed within the 0.5v Vtt/RAM difference recommended by major sites I need to confirm what voltages this board is really giving....

I'm undervolting the heck out of my RAM to ensure it doesn't happen again, if I set to 1.60v it gives 1.622v under load. I need to test it at the 1.66v setting though to see if the gap widens any further. There has to be some reason the memory controllers on my chip fried so prematurely.
Hi! I'm new to Gigabyte. Didn't read whole thread (170+ pages :eek:), but if I understand correctly UD5 and Extreme are almost the same, right? What I mean is that I can cross-flash BIOS, no?

I have EX58-UD5 with 12 gig corsair dominator.
BIOS: F10, cpu: i7 950.
The problem is I can`t get it work with the ram running at 1600mhz, only 1066.
I can only use bios optimized defaults, but thats below even factory defaults.
Could anybody help or suggest an in depth guide to set BIOS for this configuration please?
I`m noob to bios settings and don`t understand most of the terms like QPI, uncore, etc...

I found these values (I don`t know what they mean):
QPI/vtt ............1.175
CPU pll ............ 1.800
IOH ................ 1.100
DRAM ............. 1.500
Command rate .. 2
ram: 8 8 8 20
...and a lot more setting, which I leave on optimized defaults.
this is set by optimized defaults.
I only tried to set the uncore and SPD to 3200 / 1600.
I boots without error, but after the self test nothing happens.
Blank screen.
Which of these is v-qpi?
Could you be more specific what is the name of the setting please?

My Adata 12800 aint stable at 1600MHz also... I mean I get to windows and all but it needs horrible volts maybe 2.0v to work stable. But on the memory it says it works 1.65v.. I have 6x3Gb ADATA in my PC... so whats going on? Do I need to raise the qpi volts to get the memory stable?

I don`t want to overclock it now, before that, I try to reach factory defaults!
As far as I know, the dominator at 1600 mhz is normal, but I could not
find the settings for even that, without oveclocking anything!
Anyone try F12 yet? I haven't had a chance.
Is there anything to be gained by flashing my UD5 with the Extreme BIOS?

Last night my HTPC´s Laing DDC pump failed and system did shut off at 3 a clock, about.
Morning I did wonder what happened and tried to reboot it.
EX58 Extreme´s diagnostic LED display did quickly stop to C1 and screen was black/blank.
Tried clr cmos and everything, no go.
Different memory modules, one by time, differend slots, same thing.
Then I removed CPU and it works fine with another board.
Now I´m starting to replace that damn pump and then going to try again.
Any suggestions?
And F12 is good bios.

1. I'm trying it right now. It's OK, seem a little more stable then F11, but don't take my opinion for granted, as I'm new to Gigabyte (2 days with F11 and 2 days with F12 :D ), just comparing it with my good old DFI.

EDIT: Found out one interesting thing, which might be already known, but it's new to me. It could be the new BIOS issue also.
After each reboot board become more and more unstable. After returning to previously stable settings, it's still unstable. Shutting down and cold booting make it become stable again.
DFI has one option to choose if board should cold boot after each BIOS change and save, but didn't found with GB. Is there any? Seems like it does a cold reboot after changing voltage options from auto to manual and vice versa.
There is option "Exit Setup Shut down: Mode 1" on s.1366 boards too.
I switched from DFI cause I couldn't find long term stability for Folding@home over 4.3GHz.
Now with Gigabyte it looks stable @ 4.4GHz. We'll see... :rolleyes: (and try 4.5 :D )
I won't sell DFI just yet, cause this GB board with "auto" options is good to learn what engineers think is needed for higher clocks and I'll try it on DFI, maybe I was missing something or doing wrong.
And about flashing to Extreme, it looks like we'll just have to try. :yepp: I don't mind doing it.
I presume there is no problem returning to UD5 BIOS after testing?
Previously (Older BIOS) no it was not a problem to flash back to UD5, now with the new BIOSes it is and I am not sure which BIOS the changes occurred in. More specifically, I know F11 Extreme gets stuck in UD5, so if you flash to it you will be stuck @ Extreme so I would assume F12 also. Flashing back to older Extreme's after the fact and making the backup an older one as well has no effect either.
Ones like F8-10 I think are fine, not really sure when the changes happened, why, or if they can be corrected or not. I might ask next week though and see what I can find out for everyone, they do not condone it of course so not sure if I will be able to get a proper answer as to why or if it can be put back though.
The real question is, is there any advantage to flashing to Extreme in the first place? I've not seen the BIOS on the Extreme to know what is different.
Sometimes yes, sometimes the extreme may have new features before the other models, or may have a more stable BIOS. Generally speaking though, no, there is no real advantage to crossflashing from UD5 to Extreme other than just to say you are using UD5 @ Extreme. I know a few who did it just for the image, which you can manually change a few ways if that's all you want it for
They are the same currently anyway, exact matching BIOSes I believe.
