man, i forgot about the hot glue as a method to attach the wire...i might try it...can the glue be removed without making a mess?
what is the best way to get the wire to stay in place when gluing.

I got the parts for my sytem today and I can't get it to post for the first time. It does the dual boot thing, and I can see the led's on the motherboard light up and the case, gpu, and case fans spin, as do the hard drives, but don't see anything on my monitor.

Section 3-2 shows a image next to it. I don't have XP installed because I want to start out with a raid array. Do I place the Intel Chipset Software onto the formatted USB drive and hit F6 to install during the installation of XP?
I wish the instructions where better.
it is your memory...take one stick out to see if it will post...it says your memory requires 2.1v to work...most memory will post with 1.8v coming from the bios (that is the default voltage) but some memory can not post at 1.8v...i think you have some sticks like that.
are you able to switch out memory to a different brand?....if so, you can then get into the bios and set 2.1v for Vdimm, save, shutdown and switch out the sticks....the only thing with that procedure is that you can never clear CMOS...you'll be right back in the same situation.
I don't have any other sticks of ram besides these... what are some 2x1gb ddr2-800 kits that will work with the 1.8v?
hi guys!
anybody try to put 2.5V Vdimm? because with this board windows shutdown if i put most of 2.4V Vdimm... it's strange...
(please excuse my bad english, i'm french... )
I tried using 1 stick and putting it in slot 4, and it booted up just fine. Then, went into bios and changed the timings and voltage as specified. When you say I can never clear cmos, can't I just put 1 stick in slot 4 by itself, so it boots?
Is this the one to use? It was the only one that I could find that would make a floppy.
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...ional&lang=eng
if it worked in dimm slot 4, i am wondering if you have some bad dimm slots...i would check each dimm slot separately to see if it will post to the bios...if you have defective slots, even one, i would RMA the board....but make sure you use the same stick on all four dimm slots...once you confirm that all four slots are ok, i would suspect that it is the other memory stick that is defective.

heh anyone know if the 2 12V cpu connections need to be connected to the mobo, will it work with just one, I thought it was a necesity for DC CPUs
i think it depends on the board...i put my quad cpu, when i bought it, on my QuadGT board...i used an old Antec 400w supply that had only one 12v ATX supply line...it booted fine and even overclocked too!...now...i didn't have power hungry VC at that time...it was a modest 7600 GT card.
What I did was go to "On chip SATA devices" and picked "RAID"
Do I now hit "ctrl I" to set up the raid volume?
I am now going with Vista since my ~7 year old floppy drive just died on me.
Just use the drives from the CD? :(
yes, ctrl + I...
supposedly the drivers are suppose to be on the vista CD but i would have the floppy drivers on the USB drive just to make sure.
I can create my raid volume when I press "ctrl + I"
But nothing but the BIOS can load after the restart. If I put the Vista/XP disc in, it says "Disk boot failure... Insert system disk"
Is it the lack of drivers?
I was able to achieve some pretty decent results on a system build for my brother. His system specs are very similar to mine below with the following exceptions: E6850, Plextor 760A, EVGA 8800GTS 640MB, and Ballistix instead of Tracers (same speed, though).
Please note this was done with ALL DIMMs populated with Crucial PC8500 Ballistix running at 1068 MHz, 5-5-5-15. I also ran Memtest for over 6 hours without issue. I used only generic white thermal paste (cheap junk from Radio Shack) on a ThermalRight U120-X, which was lapped. The only "mod" I did was hang one of my LL 120mm case fans on top of the 8800GTS and replace the 965 thermal pad and ICH9 stock grease with Arctic Cooling MX-1. I firmly believe this 6850 had even more to go since temps were quite cool but I wanted to stop at this point to record the results.

when you first install an OS on a raid array, it is always best to move your CDROM to the top of the order for booting priority...if you leave the hard drive as the top choice, the bios might not fall back to 2nd priority and therefore, you get the disk boot failure...ALSO...make sure your keyboard is set to "bios" during the install.
I made sure both of those were both changed in the BIOS. Still no go. But one thing is weird. During boot it says, "Detect drives. No of any drives found." Yet the raid screen shows the volume and the drives that make it up.
I can't sign up on the Abit forum because of an unknown wait period. Why do they need to have a wait period?
It sounds like you have the wrong CD ROM selected. What kind of CD ROM do you have? Is it on the JMicron controller? Scroll down the list and see if your exact CD drive is near the bottom of the list.
Once you create a RAID array the hard drives used in the array will not show up in the SATA 1-6 list. They show up in the Intel RAID Option ROM.
I have an LG SATA DVD/CD drive. Would that mean that it is on the Intel because it is a SATA drive? (How do I determine what controller it is on) The raid is on the Intel controller for sure.
The hard drives don't show up now. It shows 1-4 sata ports show empty in the BIOS. (I think that is what you mean)
Hi,
I have tested my mosfet rad with a B3 Q6600
3200 mhz with 1,48v in bios give 1.42v at idle and 1.37v in charge ( full load , occt 30 minute) need the vdroop mod.
the Q6600 hit 81°c and stablised ~75°c when the mosfet hit 81°c too for ~78°c stabilised.
I don't realy know if it's a good result but I found it a little bit hot , I will try again when I will received my Q6600 G0.
Hmm..
Any1 having issues setting volts above 1.64 in BIOS?
It resets back to my previous setting for me...
Is something wrong here? Is this the way the Intel Matrix raid system works?
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/7213/hd2tq6.jpg
It is the long test.
It is from a raid 0 volume and it only had Google in the background.
I have the latest Intel chipset driver and the latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager.
Strip size is set to 64kb.
2x 7200.10 Seagate's 320gb
Jumpers are in the correct position.
That does not look right for those HDD's
That is what I thought. I see people with similar setups get around 95-130 average read with a 64kb strip. :( (same controller and drives)
Here is it with HD Tune.

Hi guys! :)
I have an important question regarding this board. How does the "CPU GTLREF 0&2" work? Should i increase it? How much?
I am asking this beacause with the Q6600 G0 the vdroop is causing me some trouble, so i was hopping that this setting could help a little a stabilize.
Please respond!
Regards :D
I did remove the jumpers, and I did select the strip (raid 0) mode in the "ctrl I" setup phase. I know this might not be a Abit problem, so I am sorry.
It just seems like they are capped some how. (I am using SATA II cables as well):(
Seatools reports normal.
Edit: How do I make sure that they are running at SATA 2 speeds?
something is wrong; just don't know right now...
i'll be back with a pic showing two 7200.10 seagate drives on the intel controller in raid 0...
you know what!...just thought of it...you are doing that test from vista..Right?
Here's my results with a pair of Raptor X

It looks to me you need to adjust both of them, 0&2 and 1&3 are processor cores.
CPU GTLREF 0&2
CPU GTLREF 1&3
And they might need to go down, or they might need to go up.

you need to go back to win xp to make sure your configuration is working properly.
YES, create a raid array and install XP
XP install might be able to grab the drivers off the USB drive but the easiest way is to do the floppy.
So is version 7.6 ok to use. :)

Well its been 11 days now since I paid for my quad G0 FPO/Batch #L725A903 and still waiting (dont ask  ) and really looking forward to installing into my IP35 Pro with Vdroop mod, thanks to those who answered my queries and will post some ss later this week

OMG? So theres no BIOS Fix, its a hardware limitation?
uGuru is a great utility and I love the options for ease of overclocking, but I caution keeping the utility open as it will eventually cause your system to crash.
See the following thread.
@chawks2......hey thanks for that it was good reading on the debugging page.
No sweat.

You need to use the Abit cd to create a floppy with raid drivers. Its all in the manual.

Was that on xp or vista. I have vista 64bit and I need to run it in xp compatibility mode to get it to work. I get a really eratic results on mine.
Well I think running hd tahc in compatibility mode screws with the results. I tried everest and sisoft and both seem about right. Running 4x250 WD 7200 rpm drives in raid 10

I'm running XP Pro SP2, havn't made the jump to Vista cuz most people tell me it blows [compatibility issues ?]
I´m using Vista Home Premium x64 and it´s working perfect. All drivers i need working good.
I thought using the latest floppy driver from Intel would be better. I will try the CD driver too.
I thought I had the latest.:( I will look for a more up to date version.
I had to run in comatibility mode for Vista as well. But my XP results are the same.
Running the same two benchmarks as you did under XP Pro SP2

I am not going to bash Vista at all. I have been very satisfied with the OS as a whole. Obviously with every MS release they rework the entire GUI, but once you get passed the nuances the OS is fantastic and REMARKABLY stable. Getting drivers out of the kernel is one of the single most important design changes.
I have NOT been satisfied with vendor driver support for Vista, especially when it comes to Nvidia drivers. The DRM crap is a bit annoying, but that's what a secondary/virtual machine is for!
Hello!
I was thinking of replacing my P5B DLX with one of these Abit boards, but I have a few questions first.
1. Is the 4pin molex connector between the PCI slots nessesary even though I only have one graphics card?
2. What memory would go good together with this board? I was thinking of 2x1024MB PC6400 sticks, cause PC8500 is still a bit expensive imo.
3. How do you flash bios on this board, is there any easy option like Ezflash2 on Asus boards?
4. I read something about some PWM thing getting very warm, what is this anyway? :x
is not normally needed unless you have every slot occupied by a card.
crucial is very good...i would buy that kind.Quote:

you can flash within windows desktop but i do not recommend it...to many people have had bad flashes from windows....the other way is to do it with a floppy or USB (thumb) drive thru a DOS prompt...Abit provides the "BAT" files, flashing program and "BIN" file in all-in-one download for the official bios releases....DO NOT FLASH IF YOU ARE OVERCLOCKINGQuote:
3. How do you flash bios on this board, is there any easy option like Ezflash2 on Asus boards?
that all depends on what kind of processor you are going to use and how high of vcore you will use.Quote:

you can minimize the temps by doing my easy to do heatpipe mod: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...147163&page=76
Many go for memory based on Micron chips. I like this G.Skill that isn't:
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HK PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4
Tighter 4-4-3-5 timings, overclocks past its rated speed nicely, and uses less voltage, 2.0-2.1v.
There is a very good sticky, including user approved memory, for the IP35 Pro at, of all places, abit forums:

vista 64 bit
Hi , this board absolutely loves my 4 x 1GB Crucial 10th Anniversary. Am able to run 1000Mhz 5-5-5-15 @ 1.825v , fast enough for me :)
1T doesnt seem to offer improvements over 2T , tbh i didnt think 1T was possible with 4 sticks .. perhaps thats why the performance gain isnt so high.
Things i think could have made this board better
1. Less vdroop .. nearly 0.9v on my quad xeon 3210 (B3)
2. Intel Gigabit Controllers on PCI-E
3. Bootmenu :)
Amigan.
always reset everything to default settings before flashing from windows or DOS...the other thing that i advise to do is set your memory to the voltage that will make it work properly...i always set mine to 2.1v even though it is not overclocking...just to be sure proper voltage is getting to the sticks.
the real reason to not flash when you are overclocking: if you have a overstessed system where you do not have enough voltage supplied, that's a sure way of getting a bad flash and then the board is "dead"!
my HDTach are done in vista 32 bit (top pic) and XP SP2 (bottom pic)...both OS's reside on the same two drives (Raid 0) attached to the same Areca controller....they are configured for dual booting.
it says to me that vista is a "dog" of an OS when it comes to benches....i'll wait for SP1 to roll along before making the decision to use Vista full time...but...SP1 has to prove itself to be GOOD!
Ace, are you using the most recent chipset/RAID drivers for Vista? Once again the VENDOR is at fault not MS or Veesta.
It's tough to make a comparison from an OS with an established 5 year life span.
I think you missed the millions of gamers who refused to use XP cause it was slower
Seriously there was thousands of posts all over the web about how XP sucks, it's slow, it has bad drivers etc. Now look at it...everyone thinks XP is god's gift to the PC. Well guess what? Vista will be the same way. You may not adopt it early, but soon enough (sooner than it was with XP over Win98) it will become necessary.
Vista has it's problems but to be honest, I find less problems with Vista now than I find with XP after all the service packs and hotfixes it had. Xp gives me more headaches than Vista ever does. Plus I can actually use 4GB in Vista while still remaining compatable with all my software. Xp x64 could never do that.
Going to use my E6600 and not too high vcore since I was only hoping to reach upto like 3.5GHz.
EDIT: Would these be any good? As in, will I be able to get my E6600 to at least 3.5GHz with these? ;) http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/part...2KIT12864AA804
i seem to remember about the gaming issue between XP and Win98...but they worked that out and everyone made the transition over...vista is totally a different bread where the kernel can no longer be impacted by drivers...i presume this is why video drivers and games are going to be a long time adjusting to the vista code...this is going to be a bigger jump than XP.
AND...when Intel weighs in and says we are not transitioning until at least SP1 arrives on scene...and...the Olympics is going to rely on XP SP2 instead of letting vista screw the pooch!:)
i jumped to XP right away and i loved it over Win98 and ME...vista is hard to love!...to many idiosyncrasies!...i am going to take my time making the transition...XP STILL works!...IMO, an excellent OS.
Agreed with Ace on this one :)Quote:

XP sucks totally...I hate it so much. I had huge headaches with it all the time. I almost bought a mac laptop because I hated XP that much.
You'll never ever ever ever ever ever convince me that Vista is a bad OS. It's 100% more stable for me and I haven't had ANY issues gaming. Drivers will be released and improved and MS is pushing it pretty hard too which means developers will have to get to work.
