Alright I just ordered a 950 online for a cheap price on eBay and I expect the CPU to arrive tomorrow. However, I have been a huge fan of Gigabyte for a long time and I've always wanted the UD5 version. I've read many reviews that this board is good. Is there any cons I should be aware of? Is the BIOS stable? Because I had two P55 Gigabyte boards and both BIOS for both boards gave me nothing but trouble.
Has anybody used the 2:10 memory multi? When I try to use it my memory gets cut down to 6GB from 12GB.
I'm currently using the g skill perfect storm F3-16000CL8-2GBPS.
Hi!
My pc stops booting if I set the ram to 1600 Mhz with XMP enabled.
Not even the self test pops up.
It`s stable at 1066 Mhz if I load the optimized default BIOS settings.
It`s not overclocked yet, I`m only trying to translate profile
and auto settings to default manual settings,
but I`m complitely noob to BIOS.
Could anybody help, please?
thanks you!

@Chrono Detector the ud5 is a very nice overclocker but its loadline calibration is not that good. You still get a lot of vdroop with it enabled.
Asus, dfi and msi are better at that. If i had to rebuilt my system i would probably go for the rampage or the gene this time.
@ford77 when in bios, set xmp to "Profile 1" and then set manually the RAM voltage to 1,66v.

Good isn't it?
@javaneze I tried xmp profile. It sets ramd voltage to 1.66 from itself, i didn`t have to
do it manually. The same result. A coulple of failed boots and after a while the
bios says that it had some problems with the current settings, it changes itself
to the last known good configuration. :(
Mate, you have to manually set the uncore multi to 16x,17x or 18x, you are on "auto" and it goes 20x on its own.
And maybe set manually the qpi vtt voltage to 1,3 , again here if on auto goes way higher.
edit: just noticed you are on F7 bios mate. Update to the latest from gigabyte. Must still be the F9E.
@ford77, I had same issue as yours, you have to use the latest beta bios
which voltages are you interested in?
the ram u r using is same as me mine 6gb kit ,died after running it @ 1700mhz continuously for a week :shakes:

Some how a 1 stick is working & other 2 are dead
Single opp after that :shakes:
to run it @ cas 8 u have to set it manually in bios
I personally love the UD5, I have 2 of them here, and they both run beautifully.
It took me a while to get used to the BIOS layout, but this is because prior to this rig, all my other builds in the past had AMD processors.
One thing that used to really annoy me with the UD5 when I first got it was the double booting issue, but since I started using the F9e BIOS that problem has stopped completely..
You wont be dissapointed if you go for this mobo imo.
thanks for the help!
I tried to set everithyng to manual except ram settings.
I tried uncore at 18x and 12x and still no boot.
Does this get only better with the new bios?
I`m not familier with hardware and bios at all,
I`d like to avoid flashing the bios if possible.
Gigabyte says that the beta bios is safe, but may lack some features,
and I`m afraid I could not tell if I did something wrong or the bios is
missing a particular feature.
Is tere anything I could try to set before going on and flash the bios?
Thanks!
Hi CryptiK, yeah, probably I have to tweak the RTL's and or the secondary timings, just didn't have time too lately, been so busy :sigh:
Thanks!
Hi Sparda, I'm on the F7. All my tests that I posted with screens were on the F7.
Is the F8F or later better that the F7? And if ever there are problems what should I look for? Or should I just go for the F9e?
Sorry for the late reply....been working my ass lately....
Thanks!
I personally prefer F9e, and I have tried a lot of different BIOS'es for the UD5.
How are you finding those G.Skill Tridents?
I'm looking to purchase some new RAM, as I want something that has lower latencies than my CAS8 dominators, and I was actually thinking about getting those Tridents.
Just wonder what innpact playing with IOH, CPU Pll, IOC, PCI, CPU clock skew etcetc have on overclocking. i got a i7 920 DO (4ghz atm) and want to run my mem on 2000 mhz but it wont allow me :-/ so anyone have any idea? (havent tuched anything more than a newb would do :-) )
Up to 4.0 I don't touch any of those settings. IOH I need to start increasing when I go over 4.4 ghz or so. CPU PLL I haven't touched, even up to 4.9 ghz, although some people have reported decreasing this can increase stability.
IOC I haven't touched, pci frequency comes into play when going over 222 bclk.
Clock skews I also have not personally had success with, although people also report adjusting them can help increase stability.
To run your memory at 2000 mhz will likely need a healthy bump on the QPI vtt (probably 1.34 - 1.4V).
The screens that I posted were running on the F7 Bios.
Ok, I tried the F9e Bios, for some reason I can get my 3.8Ghz and/or 3.6Ghz setting on the F7 Bios to run on the F9e, it doesn't want to boot...
So I flashed it back to the F7 for the meantime. Seems that the F7 works for me.
I'm using 1.55 on mine with no problems using the timings in my sig.. As long as you're within a .5 difference between the QPI/VTT and the VDIMM then you should be safe.
But I'm thinking about trying a lower memory speed with tighter timings so I can lower my QPI/VTT anyway, because the Core i7 doesn't seem to benefit much from high speed memory.
1600 CAS 6 and 2000 CAS 8 are practically equal in performance.
