just find out that there are since yesterday and today reviews out of the new intel core i7 940 cpu!
Google it ftw!
Xtreview.com said that Turbo Mode will only be available with Core i7 Extreme Edition. Mr Drwho?, is that really the truth? :(

Seems to be some homegrown speculation news coupled with the multiplier lock.
Has this test been posted yet?
http://uneit.com/2008/09/24/intel-co...-in-real-test/
Yes it was. It's basically a pconline.com review that the site you linked ripped off(they didn't post a link to the original review which is very lame)
@Shintai
define "higher". ;)
All Core i7 have Turbo, but only the extreme edition has unlocked Turbo, it is exactly like Core 2.
God, I wish the press stop speculating, or at least ask PR before they write something.
@ anyone with a Nehalem ES chip:
what kind of performance would I be looking at with three 2GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR3 1333MHz (6-6-6-20) modules? I've had Tracers for a long time and I'm not willing to give them up just yet.
See, that is a great question. Memory performance has been suffering under the ES chips/boards (from the stuff I've seen), so it would be interesting to see if there are large gains in the faster memory, or if there is a memory speed beyond which things plateau. On the other hand, having some solid state drives, etc. might up the possibilities as well. It would be nice to see a coherent look at just what the system bus speeds/memory system promises.
I keep saying that you will be better to look for modules with 1.5V to start with ... people really concidere this, some hight voltage modules will not start at all, so, you will not have the opportunity to set their voltage in the bios.
I am talking about over 1.8Volts. ( to protect your CPU , the default setting will not allow more than this, and many modules refuse to under volt/clock)
do you understand why?
I read you 5x5 DrWho. I'll be going with 1.55 or lower. We can always clock up, but if you get stuck where you can't clock down you are screwed if the thing won't boot. If it came to that, I'd rather have slightly lower clocks, than no clocks at all. This thing is already a Bandwidth monster anyway so I don't see what the 1.55 sticks would hurt at all.
SSD's just aren't mature enough yet, and I'm not quite ready to take the plunge on them yet. Maybe in a couple years when the capacity gets up over 150GB and the price gets to 1 dollar per GB or better. Sequential speeds also need a boost. For now I'm very happy with the WD Velociraptor at 150Gb for my OS and games. I have a RADI array with dual mirrored 160's, and a fairly fast 16MB cache 2500KS drive that is SATA II for storage and video.
On the memory "Guess why"? Compatibility I'd say. At least I assume that since they've came up with the new JEDEC standard. I'm not gonna risk compatibility or the CPU or the controller. I'll run what is reccomended...whatever it takes.
I will venture a guess ...
http://www.sematech.org/meetings/arc...ng_HiKGate.pdf (page 32) .... it may be the high-k materials suffer from higher rates of degradation at higher voltages overall, and hence one may want to limit the max allowable voltage on the IMC in order ensure the 3 yr warrantee.
EDIT: FYI ... multipliers (actually memory dividers) and voltages are not synonymous.
It's because high memory voltage will fry the memory controllers on these CPU's.
DrWho? has already said it many times.
If this will do 4000mhz 24/7 @100% load with good air or water cooling it's a winner in my book. I know some of you want much higher speeds for benching, etc but there just may be the reality that for that kind of use the yorkies or wolfdales may be the better choice.
I mean take a look at what people are doing with the E8600 E0's..
6500mhz and SP1m times under 7 seconds..
I don't think this one is going to be equal in those areas but will rule in others.
That's just what I think, not what I know..
ah, right right, because of the IMC. gotcha. ;)
by the way, I may have figured out the official Bloomfield release date according to the following information:
SF3D says the NDA will be lifted November 13. He has many pictures of the Foxconn motherboard.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/...14#post3328214
And here's the new GIGABYTE X58 rev 0.2 board that hicookie posted:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...t=EX58-Extreme
This seems to be on the same track as what the Aussie's say:
http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...705932&page=21
and
X58 motherboards already for sale
Goes exactly in line with what Fudo told me as well:
Nehalem release date - 99.99% accurate:
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/5...mlaunchem7.png
If the QX9650 launched on a Monday, November 12, 2007, then it looks like we may have our release date guys!
Monday, November 17, 2008
am I rite? :D
Ok, so Core i7 920 (2,66 GHz) will have default multiplier 20x but with Turbo Mode it can raise two speed bins to -> 22x 133 MHz = 2,93 GHz
Core i7 940 (2,93 GHz) will have default multiplier 22x but with Turbo Mode it can raise two speed bins to 24x 133 MHz = 3,2 GHz.
Core i7 Extreme Edition 965 (3,2 GHz) will have unlocked Turbo -> 2 or more speed bins = 3,466 GHz or more.
:)

More pics and screens @ coolaler.com
Nice to see the BIOS screens :)
yeah now only hope that there will be memory to put in the slots!
SPI rocks 12,750s with only 3.2ghz, old kentsfield needed 4ghz for that. :D
and btw, seems coolaler just showed 19gb/s memory read with ddr3-1600 cl7.
Don't want to argue with your post, high volts on mem is good for me... just want to say I lost two of my four 939 A64's due to high ram voltage...
So for me thats 50%.
Certainly this maybe didnt happen often because not many people clocked thier ram with low volts on cpu but it did happen. Luckily the cure was just driving insane vcore into the CPU. :p:
OUCH. Blacklisted!
Drwho? can you comment on this rumor?
" Intel working on Nehalem Skulltrail "

Hands up who has burned their NB from vDIMM...
Nooo!
Don't deny Coolaler of his goodies! We need him to ease our pain, dude!
Noo!!
After seeing those BIOS Screens on an Intel Reference Board, I hate to think about the kinds of options we are gonna have on Enthusiast Boards! :)
WoooHooo! This is gonna be sooooo much fun! :yepp::clap::D:up:
Yes, it is going to be awesome, just give time to every body to get their own opinion and so on. It is going to be a nice firework, just don t start it when it is day light.
If you get little bits of information, piece per piece, you will not be as Wowed as if you get the all package in one shoot. This is what we try to do: A Technology party time!
You all have to agree that when I showed Conroe by surprise at IDF with my buddies, you all had some serious fun, debate and digging online, excitement was awesome, Give us a change to wow you guys again, play the game with us, hold your information to your NDAs.
Thanks for understanding.
Francois
I understand the kinds of problems early release can cause. I will definitely be giving all those involved in this project a fair and equal chance before basing anything concrete on the technology. I know you guys are still working with things, and that's probably one of the reasons you don't want info out there until things are finalized.
I just take these things as a peek of what might be, not what is final.
I hope Intel doesn't take any action though. I don't think those screens hurt anything really. It does raise excitement and is good for advertising. It hasn't spoiled any surprises for me, because I know that there are still things with the Enthusiasts boards we don't know. There always is. There are so many really nice boards out there, and I hope you guys got to work with those comapnies like MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte, and the others I've probably left out.
I'm kinda like a peeping tom right now. I'm getting a good look, but am not taking anything yet. :D
put's on mod hat:
Gentlemen;
We had this discussion before but evidently some have forgotten what was said.
Dr.Who? does us ALL a great service by coming here and telling us what he can and should be thanked for doing so.
I removed two posts today. The first one I read made me so mad I wanted to smash the guy right in the face over his stupidity and lack of tact.
The man if nothing else demands respect due to his position.
I'm not saying you can't disagree with him but I am saying that if I ever see someone mouth off to him as I saw today that person is gone from here forever.
I sit here, just as you,and have my unanswered questions but I also see in Dr.Who's speech that he would love to be able to say more but he can't at this point. That has to be respected.
I also see these "armchair generals" who profess to know more than the man who works with and tests these every day.
What absolute arrogance on your part!
I'll say this again: Keep it respectfull and pleasant and if you can't do that then stay the hell out of this thread or you'll see a side of me that I rarely show.
Thanks for reading!
Is Nehalem EX (Beckton) already done and working?
I remember having seen a wafer with these on it, but I can't find the picture anymore (it was in one of the threads with stuff from IDF).
Hello guys, if someone have a Intel "Smackover" DX58SO or if there are Intel engineers please contact me.
Thanks
lol...we all kind of want them to contact each of us. ;)

now someone needs to explain to me what over half of these settings even do..
Dunnington? I may get one of those to review but a dual Gainstown intrigues me more..
In my office is a quad socket system.. Not exactly current tech but in it's day this sold for $21,000.00

check out the 965 load temps at stock under prime:

Still wierd for me to see that we went from a 400FSB to a 133MHz bus again
And those MP are high
those two things are not comparable! 133MHz i Host Clock Frequency - a clock from whom all the others are derived!
By using CPU milti 22 you get CPU frequency of 2.93 GHz, by using MEM multi 12, you get memory frequency of 1600 MHz... all those frequencies come from HCF's 133 MHz!
nup. fsb dram dividers are the same thing. but because the BCLK was so high with FSB you didn't exactly need high multipliers.
coolaler used old version CoreTemp ... The latest CoreTemp VID detection is already been disabled by the author ... Just like CPUz I think ...And like Hornet311 said it has different TJMax.
This is stock cooler too ... but just different from their so called "White Box" CPU Sample HSF :yepp:
Sorry, for CoreTemp plz see at right notification area @SS below
http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/g.../BLM_98GT2.jpg
...
Still i see temp of 62°
Elpida maybe?
http://www.elpida.com/en/news/2008/08-12.html
Dave ( Movieman ) was thinking of the ICs maker, Nanya Technology Corp.
At least Dave learned how to say 'her' name
New report says supposedly 52% improved 3D gaming performance o.o
http://en.expreview.com/2008/10/06/i...html#more-1008
Well, I just noticed a review of the 940 posted on the TPU forums (forgive me if this has been posted already, bloody huge thread):
http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-65...40-review.html
Looking at that, perhaps that number is from 3DMark Vantage
Yeah it seems it's 3dmark vantage cpu score...Which has like zero connections with real world games.
Anyhow,Core i7 is showing as pre-order on many sites, here in CA and here in UK.In Canadian shop 920 model is priced exactly as 2.83Ghz Core2Quad 45nm Q9550.
Mobos are available for pre-order too .They are not exactly cheap at the moment,as any new stuff isn't when it is about to launch.
FYI
Maybe some don't know Gainestown can run on X58S, but Bloomfield can't run on X58D :D
Gainestown on Bloomfield Platform.

50%+ gains in 3D gaming?! I seriously doubt it, I'd be happy if it turns out to be 10% faster in games considering the lack of heavily multi-threaded titles currently available.Quote:
In a recent document sent to partners, Intel pointed out that when comparing Core i7-965 to a QX9770, we can get 52% more 3D gaming performance, 38% more rendering performance and 41% more movie editing and conversion performance.
Of course, 50%+ in that fvking 3DMark...
Be scared you Intel junkie's the Denab is coming.
I saw the pre sale of the i7's on overclockers yesturday. The extreme i7 was on sale for around £850, that is a complete joke. Intel has obviously reverted back to there old ways due to lack of pressure from other companies, yes amd it is your fault :D
as always for a extreme edition -> 999US$
Ok then newegg it is, so uh who wants to be my postage person...I will give 40 dollers. Slovnaft, Hornet331... :p
Mmm how about a i7-965 from the US? "Dirt cheap" with the current $-€ change :slobber:
http://www.coolaler.com.tw/coolalerc...965_X58/52.JPG
why does Coolaler have mem voltage at 1.98v?
Probably for similar reasons why a lot of us here at XS use way more than stock voltages (or way more than the VID, for that matter) on most of our CPUs: Because we can :p:
Eller
I'd be the postage boy, but preferably to be paid in Euros :)
EDIT: I'm entirely kidding (about the Euros anyway).
