Do you guys think the rumour is true that there won't be a 5870x2?
Just a 5970 or whatever they will call it.

Why do all saphire products have to have craply rendered girls on them, spend some time getting them to look good like asus's!
Those pics confirm HD5850 actually uses a different, shorter PCB than that of HD5870.
cant wait for a thermalright cooler to be announced
there will be. just will coincidentally come out around the time of gt300
the maths they used was wrong. to add a chip to the board extra doesnt mean double power as loads off stuff on the board will use the power/store it god knows what else memory has to use it to etc.. not just the gpu die so ignore it
does anyone have an idea if old heatsinks/waterblocks will fit this? i got a DD 2900 full coverage block i might wanna modify to fit one of these, would be nice since it was so expensive.
whats a while? i thought every series 2000, 3000, and 4000 all have different spacing on the 4 main mounting holes.
Man that 5870 is slick. The sticker isn't great, but I don't have have a window in my new case anyway :D. It'll be interesting to see what the other manufacturers have.
Something of interest:

It's not uncommon to use photoshoped images...
either a fake, or someone just got fired
i didnt notice it at first but yeah, i see it now
ummm
Considering the dimensions of the card, the XFX livery with Green and Black will look VERY nice.
Perkam
wasn't one of the cards supposed to have the new display ports for a total of 6 screens?

Also Ruby running on a single hd5870 real time. Mmmm

The 5850 is the same size as the 4850, correct?
Where did you get them specs of 2Gb on the Eyefinity6 Nsnegative ?
Ruby has pimples on her cheek, couldnt they find any other girls? like someone who actually looked good? whats wrong with the marketing team, that girl is disgusting. With her long neck she looks like a giraffe. But atleast the 5870 is good lol.
the lighting is horrible too, i think i saw a black and white photo some dozen pages back where you can see all the details, when she wasnt just all yellow colored.

One of the best ^_^
5870x2 is surprisingly short... Wonder if it's overheating like mad.
HAHAHA >_< saving that one.
Good one jaredpace!
If they don't make a single slot 5850 I'm not buying this gen.:shakes:
Hey, if you wanna stick with 2 gen old cards, then by all means. If they make a single slot version of a card that's faster than the GTX285 then that would be great. But to completely ignore an upgrade that's easily 3x+ the performance of your current cards because it's dual slot? That's just silly considering your current setup already takes up 2 PCIE slots
any new benchmarks in the last day or so?
ewwwwwwwwwwwwww, wth man? thats the ugliest ruby ive ever seen!
please tell me its a joke pcgh pulled and its not really supposed to be ruby...
and idk what you guys are talking about the cards are terribly ugly!
it looks like a brick from far away, its cheap plastic all over the cards, like the crap china had to find another use for other the cheapo plastic toy scandal that contained poisonous substances... great, now we;re getting it stuck to our vgas...
and what are those 2 bloody nostrils on the sides of the cards supposed to be good for? cooling? look good? fail and fail...
the only card that has a propper airflow design is the 6 display card... the airflow and noise on the other cards is going to be cr4p...
from all those cards the 5770 actually looks the best imo!
the plastic shroud looks a lot more stylish and expensive than the other cards...
i really really hope there will be cards with non ref heatsinks for launch!
who the h3ll cares about dual dvi outputs if you can use an adapter?
You on drugs man?
Seriously that is a rant completely based on your opinion of looks, which you are more than welcome to but doesn't mean everyone else feels that way.
The 4770/5770 cooler is actually CHEAPER than the 5870/5850 cooler, that goes without saying. Cypress cards even come with a backplate which is awesome, no more curved/bending PCBs. They fix what everyone is complaining about on their current cards, cooling the VRMs, and now people are complaining about how the cooler looks due to it's new design.
You cannot please everyone but this cooler looks awesome, especially without the stickers, and I cannot wait to play with one.
Edit- cooling performance and noise is handled much better than previous reference coolers.
You can get single slot waterblooks

http://www.koolance.com/water-coolin...hp?cPath=29_46.
couldnt find that block on their website.
thats a pretty sick rig. all of the other links are for dual slot blocks though. what blocks are they?
i looked for a single slot block a while back but i couldnt manage to find one.
Most Full Cover GPU blocks are single slot. Here is one of my EK's on a 3870X2.

Watercool Heatkiller GPU-X2 ;)

You could go with the LT as well, it's a tad cheaper.
Thats a badass WC setup, sadasius! I always wonder are WC rigs silent, even though there are radiator fans they must be ultra-low RPM.
Yeah they can be but mine is made for performance....Want to see how loud some of the fans can get? Just click one of my youtube links in my sig. I use all San Ace fans from 2000 rpm to 6000 rpm on GTX rads. Once the 5870X2 comes out it will take it's place. Who knows maybe even 2 5870X2's!
@ Your_Boss..... Tubes can be routed in pretty much any configuration you can think of. As long as the cooler is single slot you can put in 4 cards if you wanted and just hooking them up. Mine looks like that because I am almost cooling everything I can think of plus added a few more things with all 1/2" X 3/4" tubing.
My 4870X2 EK block is single slot as well... not sure where this dual slot talk is coming from
There are a number of "single-slot" waterblocks out there that don't recess their bolts, so all you need is for them to tip a few millimeters to the side and their screws will short out whatever card is immediately below them.
The second DVI port makes it dual slot no matter what block you use.So no crossfire,I have ATI tvwonder 650,and X-FI Xtrememusic in the pci slot's.This is my mobo.http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/9519/209162950.jpg
Has it been confirmed if the mounting holes are the same yet?
guys I've got 1 of these cards in my possesion along with some beta drivers, does any1 want a few benches (I'm pretty busy with work) or are we all happy with the official amd marketing stuff? :D
Of course we want benchies :D
well the core detects as 850mhz and the ram as 1200mhz under CCC
As far as I remember to OC using CCC I open it, hit diplay options correct? I tried every tab anyway, can't seem to find it using these drivers.
I can say on my stock clocked i7 965 it's not playable in crysis warhead full hd res with 8x aa, was reallly smooth without the aa at enthausist settings, maybe 2x aa is doable. lol I'll try to run some benches on that, I only have that and the heroes of newerth beta installed :(
Don't know if this has been posted yet put it shows 5870 performance vantage score being just under 16000 which puts it about 60% faster than stock 4890.

Dude, we even have fps numbers from AMD's confidential slides from numerous games a few pages ago Mr. BSEL. Yes, it has been posted.
was playing it at full hd res 1080p, 1920x1080.

HD 5870 in 1280x1024! pfff what's the point??
that cpu score dont matches up for me :p:.
it seems like forever and the cards are still not out... this launch sucks :yawn2:
+1.
5870 is a great card, but this is ridiculous... And now rumors about not being able to buy one until first week of October... sheesh.
They should have put the damn things for sale at back computex.... could have moved 10 million units in the last 3 months...
that's one of the most aesthetic rigs i've ever seen. the green mainboard pcb kinda destroys the polished looking design of the rest though. should have been a black one! ;)
sadasius' setup looks very s(l)ick as well
I would like to see benchmark results using NFS: Shift at 1920x1200, 4xAA, max :D.
Besides, a demo is out for it.
They're not rumors in my place at least, a couple of retail stores confirmed a 2nd week of Oct. release, 13th to be exact.
That was the official release date mentioned, not some pre-release items due to destro. connections.
It might be different in your place, still, many said its at 09-22/23. I'll just leave it to 22/23 for me to know.
Sept. 22/23 or Oct. 13 are the same date for me, since I won't buy a DX11 card until Q1 2010.
*BTW, my sig. is 4 days old.:D
Hhahah! good points, labs23 and nice sig. Looks like you're waiting for the nvidia dx11 cards, or low-end ati 5000 cards.
I sure hope they don't delay store purchases until oct 13th. that is just insane. Too bad it isn't friday the 13th of october :)
Or waiting for games worth upgrading for. ;) What's the point in boosting up your FPS in games that run fine (except for Crysis) on your current hardware while you can save money by just waiting for price reduction.
I will be getting another 4870 or 4870X2 cheap to put in Crossfire (Tri-Fire ftw!) while waiting for new games, worth buying, to come out. :)
@3DMark score: My 8 months old card (295) posts 22924 GPU score in the same test, that's almost a 50% difference in performance and given that in higher resolutions SLI scales better I would expect that difference to widen (in higher res). Having said that I believe with proper drivers and a healthy overclock -5870- to reach the 20000 mark, still my card would be 20%-30% faster. Not too shabby for a previous gen card...
Having said that, synthetics do not tell much, I'm looking forward to see how the new ATI cards perform on real world gaming, I would hope that it would trump any previous gen card (like it should)...
