I guess ure right on that, funnily they initially started testing it with the gd70 and showed some rgeat clocks and thats why I bought them to start with. Whats a good kit of ram for this board now?
Corsair GTS 2000 Cas 8 4 Gigs.........1866 Cas 7 6gig triple channel GTS, hyper chips cant go wrong, i have the 2000 cas 8 kits they run solid on this board. The 2000 cas 8 GTS i have got 1880 cas 7, 1820 cas 6, and about 1776 cas 6 stable on this board, so your ram problems would be over if you got either kit.
Costs a bomb...
Well guys i took of the heatpipe and heatsink setup on this board and cleaned off the chips southbridge and NB and lightly sanded them to get them clean. I then sanded the bottom of the heatsinks lightly and applied some OCZ Freeze, and now checking my Nb temps its has droped 4c wow what a nice impovment, and it is very easy to do :D
Looks like I need to use some of that mx2 lying around.
Hi guys, quick question. For the first time I am limited by volts rather than temps...I want to do a suicide run, but am not able to get my volts above 1.55V on the board. I set the second CPU V in the bios to 1.65 and the CPU V to 1.55, but it still stays at 1.55v only...how do u dial in more voltage??
Wow thats a lot of volts to get it going...think i will stick to 1.65 and 1333 as it seems to be faster as well.
I have an important question. I am currently using BIOS 1.3 which has been rock solid since i got the motherboard some months ago. I dont have any problems overclcoking or stability issues but I have just ordered an Intel SSD drive. Now, I have read a lot of articles regarding the bad SATA support on the MSI board compared to other 790FX boards. It wants to have an AMD Raid Driver just to get the maximum performance out of a single HDD. All this makes me think that i wont be getting the best performance out of my SSD right out of the box compared to all other Intel ICH9 controllers which are pretty much better in terms of SATA support. My question is do any of you have a SSD drive hooked up and which bios are you using ? I see that Bios 1.5 for this board has some sort of SATA controller improvement, do i need to update from my 1.3 ? Any1 using 1.3 + SSD, if so can you post some performance screenshots with native Windows 7 AHCI drivers (automatic trim support) compared to AMD AHCI drivers (manual trim support needed with some 3rd party tool from the SSD manufacturer.) ? All this SSD stuff makes me dizzy and i want to get it right from the first try when i get my Intel X-25M.. Thanks in advance.
iīm running an ocz agility 120gb on my gd70.
hereīs an atto bench:
http://www.abload.de/img/beforepqpx.jpg
iīm running win7 ultimate x64.
but u canīt really tell if trim is activated or not. i flashed the ssd to a firmware that supports trim, so i hope that itīs working. running wiper doesnīt really change the numbers in atto, so i guess trim is working.
I've checked around the the web and it seems that AMD SB750 is not as great as the Intel chipsets with SSDs. Here are some results from me with my Intel X-25M G2.
http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/3779/ssdm.th.jpg http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/1611/ssd2c.th.jpg
AS SSD result is a bit lower than the Intel chipsets but I think thats expected. I have yet to see SB750 with 400 points with an Intel X-25M G2. Nonetheless, ATTO is rocking and the performance is phenomenal compared to a traditional spinner. Very happy ! I haven't tried the AMD AHCI drivers and I don't advise doing it since it degrades the performance, for Intel X-25M G2 that is. ;)
It seem that since I flashed to the 1.7 bios I get those error on idle:
Hypertransport flood something...
Any suggestion?

:D
check my previous post again ;)
As some of you may know I lost a board only on water.
It's a board i use for reviews strictly and was not out of bounds of normal.....ln2 boards don't get RMA's unless requested by manufacturer.
Just the way I do things.
Anyway very fast turnaround, kudos to MSI. I think I sent this shortly before my trip to CES.

Google is your friend! (already got it)
But thx for the new link!
;)
At the moment (not fully tested!!!)
I'm @ 3,7ghz at 5-5-5-15 ddr3-1066 with 1,7 bios (720 be)
Will try this new Bios this weekend!
Thx, will try it today if I could!
^^
(Beta got beta connections...)
:D
I'm not able to get higher frequency but I'm able to get lower voltage for the same thing.
Witch is cool...
;)
Where could I report bug for the Bios?
Already got one!
;)
Tried 191b and got a HyperTransport flood error when benchmarking my SSD wth NCQ enabled
For you guys, I can tell you that you don't need to worry about contacting MSI, as I already have. It's a problem, according to them, in the Disk Management module of the 1.7 BIOS. If you use 1.6 you won't have that error anymore.
BIOS 1.8 might be stable too, because they suggested I use 1.8b3 & it has only given me 1 HT Sync Flood Error, caused by Diskeeper, which I uninstalled and I've never had a problem since. Also worth mentioning, Raxco PerfectDisk has never given me the error. (Win7 x64)
Switching to 1.8 tonight and will let you guys know if any HT Sync Flood Errors start popping up.
Edit: if you still want to contact MSI though, you do it here:
http://support.msi.com/index.php
I have switched to the 1.92.
No problem anymore!
But one minor issue that's all.
new user reportin in... :D
an old chip but quite decent iimo...

Push it, push it :sofa:
Yeah ! finaly i've got him too :D
This board is amazing:eek: i did not found out yet, what i CAN'T do whit it:P
running with: 955BE, Geil ddr3 2133mhz cl9 @ 1600:rolleyes:
btw, first post here :D
ok i know there some new bios out there for this board , i was wondering what is the best one that has been tested for overlcokcing
as i still have the 1.3B6 bios
I'm using bios 1.5 now, and was wondering too what is the best OC bios arm :D
Hello
Recently i change the stock cooler of my 720 BE with one scythe mugen.
Exept the temp (wich i dont think its so low) any explaination about the other values?

Witch explanation do you want?
Everything seem ok on first sight!
Throwing spells are ya???? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witch_(disambiguation) :ROTF:
With all the funnin' aside, this has made for a good read.....just hope one will find its way into my household by this fall! :( ;)
Anyone running this board with 8Gb and 1T command rate (comparing the Giga A UD5 with the GD70)
Anybody tried that? I had to downclock my Reapers to 1600 :/
Thanks man, I will try it later today... With any bios I tried from Tony repository the best bios boot is 1760 6-6-6-18 1T...
I'm playing with 1.9 official bios for the last two days, can't get rid of ht flood error, only bios that works good for me is 1.8b4, I can't find the reason, everything that works so smooth with my Giga runs poor or not at all with msi
the new bios lets me boot windows @ 1800.. not blend stable though, i think my ram isn't good enough.
Or your IMC caps out
tweaking the imc doesn't help, i always get the same error immediately after starting blend. I tried to give the ram more volts (1.80v->1.95v) and it seems to stabilize blend for a few more seconds.
Ok need some info and recommendation. What exactly does the Active Phase Management do and would I benefit from turning it on/should I turn it on?
if instant fail in blend test, most likely due to nb/ram freq too high. may i know which version is ya dhx? i have d same model & d revision is 3.2, which according to corsair forum is using micron ic. d9kpt/v perhaps. :)
highest so far is 7-7-7-24 @ 1620, vdimm @ 1.85v... :shakes:

Practice make perfect.
wow... i'm kinda impressed with ya ram coz from what i know qimonda doesn't really like tight timing & u managed a 1600 @ cas7 w/ stock volt... superb...
used to own a pair of kvr running on qimonda ic, was able to reach 1650 @ cas9...
r u able to memtest stable @ 1800? :)
after tweaking the ram some more it seems cl7 1800 is the most stable. cl8 / cl9 is instant fail in blend, auto settings (9-10-10) wont even let me into windows. @ cl7 blend errors on only one core, and only after the second test.
Using same Corsair memory
Fully stable @ 1600, 7-7-7-20-27
nice. which rev?
Just boot stable, I need more time but big bios improvement finally

Thanks for the post moorhen2! One thing is for sure, MSI has been very good about updating the BIOS frequently on this board.
how bout an option to shut pc down if cpu reaches certain temp?
it is in the bios under the hardware monitor
Has anyone updated to MS4256... USB 3.0, Sata 6G..
anyone would go for msi 890FX ? i am waiting for it
i am waiting for the asus crosshair IV :)
i am interest in msi because it has many voltage options (i hope 890fx has same [or more] options like 790fx)

Just added latest beta's to my bios post.:)
I was playing with my memory with beta bios 1.10B2, I was trying to pull highest CL6, spi 32M and 1M, TT Big Typhoon and Noctua NH-D14, so this is it, I can't pull it higher, I like this bios very much
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/9435/mema32mmsi.jpg
http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/5492/spi1m952cr.jpg
wow great ram clocks cele303!
Clocks are great, but motherboard have slower PP than Giga, in 1M Giga at 900 CL6 can pull 0.3s faster... It was with optimized windows, and few tweaks, with this screenshots I was focus only at memory speed, so maybe 0.1s or 0.2s is Giga faster at lower or similar frequency... Too bad, with better PP MSI could be perfect board
Hi guys.
I need one favour :D
SS from Cell menu-BIOS, the part with voltages(cpu-vid, ddr and other), i need default vaules, those AUTO settings are killing me, i have to hard OC B45, but got this mobo 4 days ago, dont have time to get in touch with it.
CMON Cele ;)
These are the settings i use for my 965 c3 for 4.1ghz,24/7.Hope this gives you some pointers.:)

anyone know how to disable turbo core on x6 1055T with this mobo,
need guide please
MSI lists its hexa-core ready AM3 motherboards
http://omploader.org/vNDgxZQ/msi.JPG
What on earth is a Winki edition? It sounds rude
the winki-module was a usb-module that u put into one of the onboard usb sockets. with winki u could boot into a tiny linux based os and do websurfing, email and skype.. afaik.
i never saw it in action. my friend has a winki edition board, but he never used the module.
winki edition boards and standard gd70 boards are exactly the same. only difference was the bios. i guess they dropped the winki edition bios support a while ago.
Sorry, this is the source.
MSI lists its hexa-core ready AM3 motherboards
Thanks.
Looks like my board is EOL for x6.
anyone have try this mobo with x6 1055T , and how to disable turbo mode in x6 1055T with this mobo,
need guide please
itīs time for some x6 owners to report how theyīre doing with this board.
i got myself a 1090t a few days ago.
bios 1.1b1 wasnīt allowing me to disable turbocore. fortunately someone here on xs posted a link to a msi beta bios ftp site and i got the 1.1b0 from there.
i guess 1.1b0 should be the next official bios, but it was pulled from the msi site after a few hours.
maybe cause of some bugs. one of them is the famous "ht sync flood error" which keeps me from posting screenshots with more than just one cpu-z screen.
whenever i open 2 or more cpu-z screens my system freezes and i got a reboot followed by the "ht sync flood error" message.
without that bug it would be a perfect bios. i could run vantage at 4.3ghz and 3.1ghz nb without a problem. itīs a must to have turbocore disabled if u overclock and donīt wanna stay at stock volts.the system is 1hr prime95 (large in place fttīs) stable at 4.1ghz 1.47v and 3ghz nb 1.3v.
Thanks for the heads up... will thread carefully... considering a 1055/1090 with the 1055 most likely due to price.
There is a well known problem with the TIM used on the NB and SB chips on this board,MSI used some inferior paste, looks like gum,the problem was solved with taking the HS assembly off, cleaning the glue off the chips and aplying a good quality TIM,NB now @40c,as apposed to some users seing 80+c on there boards, even though the MSI saying max safe NB temp is 80c.
I have run my 1090T at 4.5ghz on mu 790FX GD70 no problem what so ever at 1.575v vcore
tdp is tdp... if thuban really would draw more watts than deneb, then the tdp would be way higher. i can see by the meassurements of my wattmeter that the powerdraw of the whole system is almost the same with x6 as it was with x4.
amd is giving the x6īs 1.47v in turbo mode. so i guess 1.5v is still save.
however, if u think u can torture ur desktop board with 8+ hours of linx, then i canīt help u. this is definetly the death of any not properly cooled board.
EDIT:
so what about u guys running thubans. do u have any problems with the 1.b0 bios? any ht sync flood errors? am i the only one?
