I guess my nuts on my hsf are pretty tight then lol

First, I would like to say thanks to Eva and all the gurus here for this complete thread. It has help me a lot.
But here is the reason of this post:
I was testing my beloved L629B when I come to this strange (at least for me) behavior on this motherboard.
Fsb at 413 x 9 I got 3717
Fsb at 414 x 9 I got 3312
Fsb at 415 x 9 I got 3735
tested twice, fsb set in bios. For some reason at 414, the multi switchs to 8 by itself.
I need some feedback on this, Is anyone else getting this issue? Is this some kind of strap thing or something related?
Bios is 311, I have all the options at the cpu menu at disabled, only PECI is enabled.
I had a similar thing with a P5WDH.. at 414 and 416 it booted ok, but at 415 was a no go.
It's nothing to do with the tightness of the thermal grease, more the fact that it ensures that the board isn't warped, so that the whole of the CPU ICH is flush with the cooling block, not just a corner of it.Quote:
it has something to do with the tighness or the thermal grease
A bolt thru kit can have as much impoact as lapping, but fixes different raft of issues.
Very likely:DQuote:

You are right monza1412 !
The same here :
Fsb at 413 x 9, I got 3717 with np
Fsb at 414 x 9, I got 3312 (9 x 368) !!!!
Fsb at 415 x 9, I got 3735 with np
Also at (414 x 9) = 3312 (9 x 368) with static read control enabled : not boot !
These trials with bios 311, later I will try with 501.
Very strange issue !
Edit : exactly the same with 501 bios [at 414 x 9, I got 3312 (9 x 368)]
Is there a way to change the Fsb speed to 1333 on a Asus P5K Deluxe, when using a Q6600??
What is this enable\disable ME on p5k deluxe board? it is missing the jumper pins. but it can be manipulated with conductive paint i belive. but what is it ?
it is placed above blue pci-e 16x port and end of DELUXE name.
Actually, it's not stability.... I'm having the same issue as well. Have a look see here though! ;)

Is raid 0 working properly on this board? Any other issues I should know about before buying one?
Those peeps with SATA II, were having probs if I am correct.
*edit sorry I thought it was pointing the premium, so far I didnt experienced any SATA( raid) probs really on the deluxe
i have one of this mobo, but i'm using a e6850, overclock nice with stoc vcore, but my temps are too slows, anyone have a problem like this ? :s
look this, it's a fresh instalation of vista, i try too in xp 'n have the same temps

You need to down load the latest core temp Beta 0.95.4 or add 15 deg to your current core temp. See here. Downlaod core temp 0.95.4 Or here I think the link is broken though.:(
I was bored today and I did some spi runs just to see the DRAM Static Read Control / Transaction Booster options influence in memset and in the superpi score. All test were done with 5.5.5.15 timings at 1:1 (the others sub-timings at AUTO - Command Rate at 2T - bios 311).
first run: DRAM Static Read Control DISABLED / Transaction Booster DISABLED (Relax0)
http://www.subirimagenes.com/imagene...00disabled.JPG
second run: DRAM Static Read Control DISABLED / Transaction Booster ENABLED (Boost level 1)
http://www.subirimagenes.com/imagene...00 trans 1.JPG
At boost level 0, the performance level went to 11
third run: DRAM Static Read Control ENABLED / Transaction Booster DISABLED (Relax0)
* leaving DRAM Static Read Control AUTO / Transaction Booster AUTO gave the same results
http://www.subirimagenes.com/imagene...073800auto.JPG
Also changing the relax options shows changes in the performance level in memset, the others subtimings remains the same
Relax 0 - Performance level 8
Relax 1 - Performance level 9
Relax 2 - Performance level 10
Relax 3 - Performance level 11
So, as it has been said before, the Dram Static Read Control option has more influence in performance/bandwith gains than the transaction booster option.
ok tnks Crossg i try this version, but this link are broke, i try to download later, and tnks Severance i go to install AI Suite now......
I also made this
nice work chessman  . I was shocked with the vdrop in this board, from 1.3 in bios to 1.208 load. The voltage damper option should come enabled by default and not at auto that its the same as disabled.
But I really dont have any serious complain about this mobo, it has all that I didnt find in my P5WDH.
Here is a link to hotfix kb929637 to fix the control panel not opening problem

Hey fellow P5K Deluxe owners. Got a question about my board. I got it 3 days ago. The first 2 days my system would power down completely when I shut down Windows. Now the system won't shut down completely. The fan and power light stay on all the time. Funny thing is everything else works perfectly. Does this mean my new board is defective?
Hey guys, I've been having fun now that my setup is complete... I get withdrawal just being away from it
E6600 lapped (3.6GHz w/ 1.6v)
Scythe Infinity w/ Dual SFF21F fans
Asus P5K Deluxe

My biggest problem setting this up was with the raid.
After trying many custom unattended xp disks and pressing F6 to load drivers I ended up getting the "please insert win xp disk..." ... iastor.sys missing ... even though I had loaded it from disk. So I tried slipstreaming intel ICH9 raid drivers to those custom xp install. It would install fine, but I got BSOD with heavy read/writes from the disks. I worked like it was supposed to with "windows xp pro coprporate integrated july" by ETH0 group. Just the basic xp integraded disk. F6 with a disk created by the intel matrix storage floppy disk creator v# 7.6.0.1011. ETH0 has regular releases and I imagine they will work also.
Two things I'm curious about...
Does this board have trouble running memory above 1216MHz? My sticks show promise of being able to go higher but I read elsewhere that someone was having trouble getting their corsair pc-10000C5DF running above 1214 and he was running his 4-4-4-12 with tonnes of room left.
Second is I'm unable to get the fsb past about 446. I seem to hear from reading along the way that this may be a limitation of my processor? Even if I lower my multi I can't break through this.
Suggestions? reasons? Do you need some more info?
Thanks,
i got a 503 to the deluxe, but it has some strange dividers.(501, 490fsb=1225 ddr2) (503, 490fsb=1176ddr2) couldn`t use oc profile from 501. it clock a bit higher, from 505 fsb to 510-15. so i wnte back to 501.
3 weeks later?? Guess I got spoiled with the P5W DH, they seemed to update that board every two weeks. Nothing really wrong with 501 but it does have some FSB holes. Just excuses, we need something new to play with.:)
no more expenses for the moment please... :)Quote:
Hehe, X38 is upon us
Bios 0503 is out
August 22nd build date.
I hope it sorts out the bugs and isn't a beta :)
posting a link is always a good idea ;)
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...eluxe/0503.zip
The Asus web support site still shows 0501 beta. Is this, in fact, the 0503 bios for the P5K Deluxe?
I certainly would not like to attempt installing the wrong bios.
Downloaded from this link and got corrupted file when unzip.
Entering the asus ftp i got it right, dont know what happend :S
Anyway here is the direct link to the asus P5KDeluxe ftp page
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so.../P5K%20Deluxe/
Im pretty sure 0503 just bricked my P5K DLX.....
I flashed it, at the verify point of the flash with AsusUpdater it said "failed to verify EEPROM" yatta yatta.....Hit flash to retry, or exit to abort...got the same message a few times...hit exit to abort it....and restarted
So now I have a computer that turns on, powers up everything and reboots. Thats all it does.
Tried clearing CMOS, and retry nothing... I left it for 10mins or so to see if that helped. Nothing.
Anyone had this problem before? Or is this thing headed for an RMA....
I knew that was the BIOS I should have installed from DOS.....Vista spited Me with a brick haha
EDIT: Shes dead....wont even stay on long enough for it to give me a BIOS recovery prompt....
RIP P5K Deluxe I knew ye well>>>>
Wheres X38 already? I will have to wait for those to launch, so my rig is going to be offline for at least a month :(
Hey guys,
I just built a workstation using the following:
P5K Deluxe, 0501 bios
Q6600 G0
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
2x2gb Patriot DDR2 5-5-5-15
Silverstone Zeus 560w
Problem:
There is a gap of FSB choices that will not work. Between ~360mhz and ~400mhz will not POST. 400mhz posts fine but is not multi PI stable for more than a few iterations unless I put on more voltage than I'd like. This is all at the default 9x multiplier. Is there something I'm missing?
I've tried lots of different voltage combinations but nothing seems to help. I'd optimally like to run the chip at 9x390 because I think it's the sweet spot of stability/voltage/temperatures.
I'm currently burning it in at 355x9 1.475v. This will suffice unless someone can explain what I'm missing. I recall reading a review of a P35 board a while back that had a very similar issue, but I don't remember which site it was.
Chaos,
Asus update is a problem. Your board is toast - sorry, but all you can do is RMA and always flash from dos in the future.
p5K deluxe 0404 FTW :D
never flash from windows....
@ ChaosMinionX. Sorry to hear that.:( I wish I would have seen your post earlier. I went ahead and flashed with a USB stick and ASUS EZ flash 2 and it worked alright but I certainly would have thought twice if I had seen your post.
I wonder what the performance of X38 is like 400x9 with 3-3-3-6 settings. I dunno if it will handle the same as 975X did, because numbers shot through the roof using those settings.
P5K premium here tomorrow :)
Just flashed 0503 and I don't see any difference so far nor have I experienced any problems.
I previously did the same on my deluxe - used Asus update flash as I was in a hurry with the same results under Vista X64. Still I also got the premium which is a better board - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...eply&p=2424177 you should be able to get the best out of your quad on it. BIOS 0204 is latest for this board by the way. EZflash with USBstick worked fine.
@sesdave
Did asus give you the premium in place? Or did you take a 200$ hit?
Just received my P5K Deluxe back from Asus service. My RMA was exactly 2 weeks from when I shipped it (FedEx). Same serial number returned. I too lost my board in a bios mishap, (was flashing from 202 to 501). Asus gave me a RMA number, and in the email was a link to check status of the repair. No problem, other than I was itching to use my new board. And board was returned with the 202 bios. Had to flash the 501 to use my Q6600. Was a little nervous aftere what happened the first time...
I RMA'd to my UK retailer SCAN who gave me a full refund - very nice of them as I thought I was going to be out of pocket. I pointed out that I was not the only one who have had flash failure on the deluxe MB. Its not asus flash - I have used Asus update many times on the P5W DH with no problems but after the failure on a MB with a soldered chip I will always flash from dos or use ezflash with a USB stick from now on.
I have found nothing new for 0503 bios. Except maybe the Robson option missing in bios. My E6850 temps are still erratic, bad detected. In bios it shows even 17-20 degrees Celsius (when i have 30 degrees as room temperature). Even disabling all the options in CPU settings from bios, and i still get strange values (like CPU temp beeing much higher then core temps). Strange, i wonder what's Asus thinking. I paid premium price (260 bucks) for something that even an Asrock bought with 50 bucks can do. Just stoopid...
Intel Robson only shows up when drives are configured AHCI or RAID I believe.
oh well, as they say... if it aint broke... will stick with 404 bios for now... i'm at 3212Mhz(357 x 9) orthos stable (8hrs++) at 1.288V idle. with max temp of 59C. will just move along while waiting for my ballistics to arrive... Cheers
I wonder if the newest board have a new revision or still 1.00G?
ChaosMinionX - the Latest BIOS for Premium is Beta 0302 - you can get it from rapidshare. This thread page has a post with a link.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...151965&page=10
Am usaing raid & can confirm that Intel Robson is gone.
I'm still on 311 and it's been rocking along no problem since may at 3.6ghz. What could I gain by going to 503? I'm not using raid or a quad.
I believe 311 timings in NB are pretty loose... latter BIOS's have tighter timings in NB IIRC so you would have to re tweak your RAM settings probably.
Flashed from shipped 0123 BIOS shipped with it to 503 and no problems.
Only problems with setting RAID0 up on XP X86. Keeps asking for matrix stroage driver after it's formatted the drives
You need the Iastor.sys and PNP drivers and whatnot for Raid to work properly on intel controllers... did you F6?
I did it all. In the end i made my own XP disc with them in Via nLite.
There is no need for a floopy drive these days, they have got to stop making the need
Now my problem is sound, it keeps asking for a Windows bus. Anyone?
How can I enable this LargeSystemCache feature if it helps (even with my processor?)?
Also, do you know of any additional XP tweaks to make the thing faster :)
you could do the L2 cache tweak, performance is negligible at best in your perception of it, but I like to do it so I know ;)
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
SecondLevelDataCache is what your looking for. Then you will need to enter a hex number for it.
Conroe's with 4MB of L2 = Hex 1000 = 4096KB
Kentsfield's with 8MB of L2 = Hex 2000 = 8192KB
You may also edit the DWORD, and change it to decimal instead of HEX and enter the actual amount of L2 present, instead of using 1000 or 2000 to set.
If you have any doubt in how much L2 is present, please consult CPU-Z or ask on here for assistance so you dont break something :)
This applies to XP and Vista.
Thanks! I'll write that one down in case I format or so. Is this the so called LargeSystemCache-change?
Im on it now and seams to be working fine. Just need my 2/3HP SS and im sorted for a nice 5Ghz hopefully
I tired, it needs an HOTfix for XP. CD with mobo incs the drive, inc updates but not for XP or VISTA
Asus if your listing, please sort it out as i aint buying your crap ever again
A flash disk needs to be in Fat32 format I just figured out when flashing to 503. If you have a cd drive with the rom on it or any fat32 drive with the rom file on the root of the drive, then in the cmos, under tools it flashes fine from there or pressing alt-F2 at post gets you to the same place. It is worth getting a $20 small usb key and leave it in fat32 format and copy afudos and the .rom file on there and the bios see it in the auto flash program right in the bios. It's pretty fool proof that way. It just won't work on NTFS formatted drives and usb keys as far as I can tell.
Wasnt more of stupidity in my case, was in terms of how quickly I could get things done which turned out to be a bad idea anyways :)
it'll fit just fine on a 2MB floppy... he could also use a zip disk.... although if he went to target he could get a 32MB usb flash drive for $5
no realtek hd audio on p5kdeluxe. soundmax it is
Has anyone sorted Vmods yet that work? I seen so manny differnt ones i need to right ones. Got a bench session coming and want to blast a lot of UK Super pi away with my 6850

I'm running bios 0311 and air cooler, worth test other bioses with this results?
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/1...0311gb1.th.jpg Batch# L723A047
Forgot to edit the note where is write vdimm the correct is 2,35v and not 2.0v
Getting a FBS wall around 488FSB with the E6850, but i was getting 512FSB with my old E6600 (7x512) with 0202 shiped bios and 0311. Its worth get back to 0202 to test this FSB wall??
May i update the bios back and have the same results if new bios can't do the same? I'm building a full wc setup, but i'm a little bit curious to test another bios before.
0503 i cant boot past 390 in BIOS!
0503 I can boot and load windows at 400 fsb - forget stability :) but windows will load and run.
0503 fine here. 450x9 like aways :)
Rbs.
487/584 here on 503
What are you BIOS settings in full then guys? Probs doing soemthing wrong!
Oh and the FSB to NB strap?
its in the subtimings of the memory, asus tightened the timings thus causing issues OC'ing the board.
i had to go back to 311 see my subtimings in memset 3 and then flash to 501 and set those timings in the bios along with all my other settings from before and it worked for me.
Don't know if anyone else has had this issue but on two different P5K D boards when set to stock speed. I would get cold boots freezing at the splash screen (Win XP or Vista 32 bit). A quick reset and it would boot right up. All settings were AUTO except FSB, Ram frequency, timmings and Dram voltage. After a couple of months of chasing settings I found the culprit, CPU Voltage Damper. Tested it for the last couple of days. If set to Auto it will freeze on cold boot but set to disabled or enabled it boots fine on both systems. May be part of my PC configs but if anyone runs into this problem give this a try.
I had issues OC'ing and i reflashed to the same BIOS and it's now working. Have you though it might want a re-flash just make it a bit more happyer?
I need vmods but no one can conferm anyhthing on there for it.
I got a bench session coming and i want to blow some people away
Ah gosh, I have huge problems deciding between this board and the Abit IP35-Pro. What's keeping me off the Abit board is the insane vdroop.
What kind of FSB's can I expect with the P5K Deluxe with a Q6600 G0? And I remember reading about raid issues on this board, are these still present? I'm running raid0.
With that said I've been extremely happy with my current Asus board, so I'd have no problems going with them again.
