Did another dry ice bench on EX58-Extreme @ F7. Now MB is stable and reliable, having no coldboot/coldbug issues at all. Thx Gigabyte and its BIOS engeniers.
Results are not so good, because MB wasn't modded for high PCI-E/BCLK (stiil waiting email from hicookie) and small amount of dry ice.
My old i7-920 C0 worked wPrime1024m/3DMark Vantage on 215 BCLK (4515 / 4300 Uncore) with HT on. Never go so far on H2O. :)

But these settings and even lower settings will cause the system to just not boot anymore. If i leave the uncore on auto it will boot. It will show 3800 which is way to high but its not stable it will crash before i even see the multiboot screen.
So i'm back to the F7 again. But i do find it strange. I realy wanna use the new bios because i did notice the speed of the new AHCI 1.2 bios. Boots a bit faster :)
You need to find and set your own QPI/Vtt voltage, stock is not going to work with those timings. And you do need to keep in mind settings from previous BIOS are not always going to work in new BIOS as many things change, you would need to tweak all over again. Sometimes more or less is needed of a certain voltage, don't give up so quickly as the newer BIOS's rock!! Just leave it in there, and start over like you just got the board and that is the only BIOS available, you will be overclocking in no time trust me.
UD5 here using the modded F8b bios with the new ahci rom and...after running 3dmark06 a few times I noticed something strange...

same system, two different runs (different clocks on gfx card)
one run showing my cpu like it is, i7 920 and other one is saying I somehow got an 975 extreme? wtf?
would this be related to the fact that I'm using that modded bios or is there something else wrong? I didn't try the new bios yet because the one I'm using is stable & fast, kind of waiting for more comments on the newer ones
That could be it. I will try to find out what my QPI voltages where on the F7. So i have a indication what i should set on the F8. Now i just left them on auto because they where on auto before. When i leave the CPU at auto on the F7 i get 1.35v. That to high. I only need like 1.25v for 4.2 GHz. I will give it another shot.Quote:

Comparing them will only set you back in your progress, like I said you may need more or less than before. Just start at 1.3 and work your way up then if no luck try down, but I would assume at 1500+ you will need more than 1.3 anyway with those timings.
Set your own stable CPU Voltage so you know it is not part of the issue, sounds like you are using FAR to many Auto's to be overclocking and blaming BIOS's for your clocks failing. Do it all manually yourself, no Auto's especially voltages like QPI/Vtt, Vcore, IOH, and Vdimm.
He guys, could you help me out? I want to get stable 200 BCLK. If I change ONLY the BCLK and Voltage it works, but itīs not stable, If I change anything else, like CPU PLL, etc it doesnīt even boot. What settings do you guys recommend ?
K need alittle advice here. Im trying to get stable at 4.2Ghz but LinX BSOD after 4 mins which makes me think its not a Vcore problem It will do 4Ghz @ 1.16v load but at the moment trying to get 4.2Ghz @ 1.23v load.

I tested the F7 and i can run 100% stable with 1.2v QPI voltage. I dont wanna go higher because i did tests on the QPI. And if you up it with like 0.3v you get + 40 watt power usage. The same for the v-core + 0.3 will give you like + 55 watt power usage. And for 24/7 i want low power usage.Quote:

Exactly same here, I can do 4GHz stable 191x21 and it can do 50 LinX passes maxed but when I tried 200x21, it would BSOD in like 3 minutes, I tried to bump all voltages but I still get BSOD after 3 ~ 4 minutes. What do you guys think?Quote:

Yup, I have the same problem as well. I can do 197x21 with 1.2250V [BIOS] with flying colors but when I get to 200 Bclk, it doesn't matter what voltage I set it to, it all fails. :(Quote:

I have also read that some people need to have QPI/Vtt as high as 1.45v for stability, and maybe try a little more Vcore as well...
About CPU and PCI e clock scew setting, if you load optimized defaults in the BIOS, it sets those to the values that you have been recommended to try out...
Hey guys, whatīs the difference between the Standart, Turbo and Extreme modes ?
Ok following the performance enhance advice above and raising my QPI PLL from stock (1.1v)to just below VTT (1.3v) it has stopped the BSOD and just gives me a Error which is a step in the right direction :)
@DarthRaven, I am pretty sure that the performance enhance setting just uses more aggressive RAM timings/sub timings... someone please correct me if I am wrong...
@Brad, I am glad that my suggestions have helped a little.. hopefully you find 100% stable settings soon ;)
As for my rig, I have decided to just run with 2 sticks of RAM for now, and I have got the CPU clocked up to 4GHz (20 x 200) with a 6x RAM multi and uncore @ 13x, and things appear to be stable for now anyway..
Prime95 Blend has been running now for just under an hour without any issues, so hopefully I to have found settings that work for me, though I still can't use the first white slot...
I will wait until my new UD5 arrives tommorow, and I will set that up and see whether all of my RAM is detected on that board... if it doesn't pickup all of my RAM I will RMA the processor again, as I suspect it could very well be the IMC that has buckled and not my mobo...

@Brad, have you tried raising QPI/Vtt voltage a little more to see if that helps with stability??
I know with my rig, if I don't have enough QPI/Vtt voltage threads will start dropping out in Prime95, or I get rounding errors, raising it up a little seems to stop those errors.. at least for me it does anyway...
Oh, I forgot to ask in my last post, but can someone please explain what I need to do to get past 200 Bclk??
I have managed to get 210MHz before, but I tried again earlier today, and it just refuses to load into Windows completely at 210 Bclk... it gets to the Windows loading bar, and then it resets itself...
I hear lots of people on here saying that the UD5 has a Bclk limit of 222MHz, but I can't get anywhere near 222MHz...
What is the relation to the PCI express frequency and base clocks over 200? Should I increase the PCI-e frequency when trying for BCLK of 210 and up? What should the PCI-e be? 101, 102, 103, or something like 115? I can not boot into windows with a PCI-e of 110mhz, but I am gonna try the 102 and 103Mhz see if that will help me boot into windows with a 210 BCLK.

Well my Vcore is quite low for the clock so im happy to raise the rest alittle if it helps. Aiming for 4.2Ghz with 1.23v till i get some better cooling.
ok, my rig is still running Prime Blend @ 4GHz with 2 sticks of RAM running @ 1200MHz, if I were to have tried this with all 3 modules installed the system would have buckled ages ago.. I am using my Dominators atm, I will leave Prime running overnight to see if it is still going in the morning... I am hoping that I have managed to get this system stable, even if it is only with 2 modules installed.. I really should have set the mem multi to 8 for 1600MHz, I will try that when I wake up in the morning and see if it runs stable or not..
Hopefully it isn't my CPU that is causing the problems.... I will find out tommorow when I get my new mobo..
@DarthRaven, I tried out EasyTune 6 that came with the mobo, and I tried to alter my QPI/Vtt voltage and as soon as I pressed the set button my rig locked up!!!
I only use it now to see my voltages, but tbh, I dont think that it is accurate..
Can I ask you guys, what are you using to test for stability??
I am using Prime atm, when I had Vista installed I also used IBT, but for some reason when I try running IBT on XP I get this DLL reallocation error on the user32.dll file... I installed the Visual C++ Runtime, and the .NET Framework, and also got all the latest Windows updates, but the error just keeps happening... it ran perfectly on Vista x64...
Another question, I wondered what kinda temps you guys that are on air are seeing with your 4+GHz o/c's???
I have read posts by some people on various forums saying they are hitting like 85c @ 4GHz with HSF's like the Titan Fenrir, or Noctua, but right now with my CPU @ 4GHz 1.248v Vcore at full load running Prime95 Blend my temps are 80, 81, 77, 75, with this old Zalman 9700NT... those temps are quite acceptable for 4GHz right???
I have the rig setup outside the case right now, would this make the temps lower?

I forgot to say, can anyone explain why when I try to set my uncore to 12x when the RAM is on 6x and Bclk @ 200MHz, my system refuses to POST at all, and I get 88 on the debug LED on the mobo??
But if I raise it to 13x like I have it set to now, it seems to be fine??
I always thought that the uncore had to be set to 2x your RAM multi for stability, and I have always had it set to double before, could it be that my CPU would need the multi to be 2x +1 to be stable, because it has NEVER managed to run Prime for over 4 hours with a 4GHz O/C.. and it is still going strong to...
I will be extremely annoyed with myself if it has been something as dumb as this that has been causing all my problems!!!:mad:

Mine hit 88c on the hottest core running LinX which will push temps alot higher than prime @ 4.2Ghz - noctua cooler. Your using the White slots on ur mobo for ur ram right?

I wish that IBT would run on this XP install... if this Prime run is still going in the morning, I will switch back over to Vista x64 and test again... this time with the RAM @ 1600MHz...
Can't wait for this new board to come tommorow... I really should have bought a different X58 board instead of another UD5, but at the price I got it for, I couldn't turn it down, Ģ140 for a brand new never been used UD5???

I see you are running prime95 on Windows XP x86? I found that stable OC on windows XP doesn't mean it is stable in Vista x64, x64 needs more work
