@ Massman.. How to calculate pi efficiency? I just run with those "real time and kill explorer" things. I never pay attention on those maxmem and other ostweaks.
Should learn it long time ago:)
Thanks.
I have a question about NB Voltage. So far I haven't touched NB voltage but as soon as I reached around 2100mhz I get unstable during stability testings.
I am now working 265 x 1 = 3710mhz(1.52v) with HT/NB multiplier at x7 (1855mhz) which seems stable so far. I am using the system in sign, and how much can i put on the NB/HT voltage for a 24/7 clock?
I can run OCCT for an hour at 3.8ghz but I randomly BSOD in windows with 0 CPU load. Awesome! And setting 1.575v BIOS (previously 1.55) results in 1.475v in windows. Great!
I have CACVC AC 0849APMW and its running stable @ 3.7GHz / 1.45v
havent tried prime yet but i benched several hours with diffrent 3d marks wo errors.

well i hoped to get an overclock lol, cacvc-ac0b50epmw 940 chip, on a dfi dk 790fx-m2rs bios the newest non beta (10/2008),
first thing i need help with is if i add "special vid add" the system gets very unstable. the computer will boot to the bios at a 22x200 just wont go into any windows nor does it at anything above 15.5x200, i have tried upping the bus insted of the multi no luck.
what am i missing? oh the ram im running is 8gb corsair dominator 1066(testing done with 4gb tho), 850w corsair psu. thanks in advance so far my best o/c is 3.1ghz got into windows once at 3.6ghz..
anyone have luck with the 1/16/09 bios? any issues? worth a try?
Hi
I'm Stephen, known as Steevo, obviously. Have been watching this thread for awhile, I hail from TechpowerUP! where our lord W1zzard and Dan flog and beat us. Anyway, on with the show.

Build Log, I had it custome modded by a great guy named Mark. http://forums.techpowerup.com/showth...=74303&page=11
Stepping: CACVC AC 0849EPAW I have booted to Vista at just under 4Ghz, and stable at 3.88 as the highest I have gone without extreme volts. This board has a large vdroop and thus I am slightly limited in what I can do without a hardware mod. I run F@H SMP, and GPU 24/7 stable now at 3.81 and I going to start pushing it back up every day untill it wither bombs out witha BSOD, or the F@H SMP clinet freaks. The USB controller doesn't like to be set at "Full speed" in the BIOS, it must be set at "High Speed" or else you get USBOHCI BSOD at the worst times.

Anyone ever tried 1T on this platform? Don't know if it's even possible.
My new high for SuperPi on AIR ;)
Attachment 94404
 Ambient ~ +6C, vCore is reported correctly and vIMC was 1.32V.
HWBot top AIR for now ...

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/7161/cpuz4408mhzsn5.png
what cpu cooler do you have?1.63volts on air?
Thats not nice.... , i think i will need to move my stuff again soon. Gratz to top1 super pi1m PII940 on air time!
I have tryed to get higher clocks on 3Dmark2006 and 24/7 and more stability....i have going up about 100mhz more than before(when i did 4260mhz super pi1m) in 3dMark2006 and all my cores can now do super pi1m @ 4.0ghz+ with 1.47v easy with indoor temp 26c and True Black with two slow 12cm fans....waiting for my Ultra Kaze 3000rpm fan to arrive.
What core temp do you have idle @ 4295mhz?
TT True 120 Ultra + 12cm FAN
I'm not sure, at 3400MHz it was 24C, haven't checked them @4295MHz
BTW you seems to have better cores than mine :)
I can do max 4.2GHz on 4 cores, maybe 4.3GHz with cold air
3DMark06 is stable up to 4.07GHz all cores (so far max. tested, could be more), 3DMark 2001 4 cores are good up to 4.15GHz!
PS. You were enjoying top AIR spot for a loong time :p: If you beat me now then my only hope would be new BIOS from Gigabyte with NB vcore or a new CPU :D
HMmh, i don't know
I didn't have HWmonitor so i didn'y know the temps but i was putisde and there was about -5c
Vcore..hmmh..~1.6v, i think..Can't remember :(
And i just fast tryit max clock, when Asus mobo comes i will do better scores and when i have time, right now i have to study for exams so next Saturday i think i will do some tests with Asus
acc is working on the m3a79-t.
but coretemp shows constant 0°C...
http://www.abload.de/thumb/occt3750ytte.jpg
gotcha Oese ;)
I guess ACC is rgouing to be ative from the chip if no then you get no ACC then yes you do get ACC.
I wouldn't mind getting ride of the thermal throttling that's going on and seeing when it' errors out after thremal throttling. AMD stated the chip was good from -260-100C.
but with a temp reading from anywhere it would be hard.
i had that thermal throttling too.. but it wasn´t the chip. turned out it was the nb that got too hot and forced the cpu to clock down. i´d recommend u to check ur nb temps tempin1 in aod afaik. when u reach 60+°C on that one u see the thermal throttling kicking in.
the thermal pad on my nb was completey melted and rock hard when i took off the heatpipe cooler to install my waterblock.
@oc_junky: what acc setting did u use? +2% works just fine
Hmmm, I just looked at the list and Im surprised to see Im the only person running 2.8ghz nb prime stable at any clock.
K, giving up on my Drive Strength quest.
Ive a question though, although it slightly depends on your NB clocks, but considering they can go well over 2.4Ghz it doesnt matter.
Is it more favourable to have ~DDR1000 4-4-4 (at 2.2~2.3Vdimm) or ~DDR1150 5-5-5 (2.16Vdimm)? Those DDR1000 4-4-4's are risky since it's Micron and might die at a point (or not), but I guess those Micron's are slightly more favourable regarding bandwith/latency?
What do you guys think?
Hi all I'm a new member here. I managed to get my PII 920 to 3.6GHz @ 1.44v after I thought my max was 3.5GHz @ 1.408v for the past week:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/237/3...e7670b35_o.jpg
Thats most likey because clock speed 100mhz higher is > NB speed 200mhz higher, Its great for fine tuning your max clock but if it impedes your overall core clock than its not very efficient .
I also really think a shot of Cinebench should be required or a 3d06 pass should be required along with a prime 2 hour because those 2 benches will most certainly fail at NB speeds/voltages that pass prime.....which can be very misleading.
Yes on suicide but not prime stable.........my highest nb suicide is 2.97ghz. What Im saying is I got the highest nb (2.8ghz) prime stable with 3.8ghz cpu. No one else has a prime stable oc at or higher than me and Im surprised at that.
all my benches and tests are run at the same nb, I dont lower them for any reason.
3dm06,superpi 1m 32m cinebench prime and occt all run with the nb at 2.8ghz or better

Cinebench I just ran at 2.893ghz nb and HTT same speed (settings Im testing now)
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j.../th_2893nb.jpg
plus my 24/7 clocks are 2.6ghz htt and 2.8ghz nb........I dont have any reason to lie:shrug:
No I don't think your lying but I think summer is going to paint a different picture because a .20 vcore increase and a .20 NB Cpu Vid is most certainly out of the question with out those "low" ambients even with a TRUE.
If that was the case I would have ran a 4.0/2884nb prime,3d06 with 8c load ;).
The prime results is just to give users an Idea of realistic 24/7 Scaling.
You think 23-24c is low ambiant? thats normal temps in the house.......when we cook it goes to 29c ambiant now and better plus we do have ac for the summer:p:
You should have ran your system at the highest you could thats what all this superpi 3dm06 Cinebenching is for. This is ExtremeSystems....Not average or mediocre systems......so give it all you got.
I know what the results are for, if thats the case take out the phase change results they dont add to the real world results on 24/7 scaling.
Well thats where your wrong, they can run 24/7 during summer ambients they will still be cranking along at the same speeds.
Benching is benching 24/7 stable is totally seperate especially for those reading that never post, most want to know what to expect for 24/7 use.
Just my opinion though.
BTW 30C prime load temps and 24C ambients dont add up ;) not even with incredible water cooling. I got 30C prime load when my ambients were 10C and lower at 1.575vcore
his prime screenie shows 58c after 2hrs,,, good chip, good hs, good fan and im not too suprised by his results
Here is my Cinebench NB @ 2810
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/401...8nb2800xw1.png
blue line is core.....maybe you have been reading the wrong lines in your temp programs?
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...hourprime1.jpg
I dont know why you have so many problems with temp programs, heres coretemp, speedfan and AOD and they all read within 1c of eachother
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...n771/temp1.jpg
sweet score I really need to try out 64bit os
Thats ok I'm testing what it takes to get 3840 Prime stable with 1.584vcore and 2800NB.
So far you need a TRUE, a 1.60 amp Delta fan ( this thing is great at lans ), a window fan to control ambients, so now we are at 19C ambients via A known accurate multimeter, we have a blowdrier on high hooked up to a lapped + pressure mounted true. Temps are holding 48C.
I have a problem with temp software because I have a calibrated mutimeter to verify temps ;) You trust software if you want.
http://members.cox.net/nfridenti/DI14.jpg
Maybe highest for your cooling (didn't check so don't hold me to it), but I have 4.128 ghz cpu with 3.096 ghz nb that runs gimps fully stable. That's also with my ht link up at the same speed as my nb. I haven't actually checked the list lately, but last I checked I had the highest prime stable. My highest suicide shot for nb has been above 3.3ghz, but it needs lots more cold to be stable.
Actually mine is too 2800MHz NB and 2800MHz HT primestable, and has been stable for many weeks now.
http://faior.miumau.net/3.666.jpg
and i did some testing before that with 3dmark
http://faior.miumau.net/3.643dcpustable.JPG
sweet, thats what I did mine at, 2 hours prime 1.55v though I just never posted it to be updated but its right there in the pics I posted:up:
as for the temps its working for me so I dont have any problem.
Oh and those 48c temps load are very sweet:up:
you should check, its not on the list........dont know who was updating?
sweet:up: you are not on the list though, thats what Im basing the info on.
seems like theres little friction here because of my clocks and temps:p:....my system is running really well:yepp:.......the screenies tell the story:up: good luck!
Im tempted to go 3.9ghz/2.9nb with cold air:D.......but Id rather be playing games and chillin than freezing my ass off;)
You need to PM Particle (or how ever you spell it) to be added to the list. he will PM you back once added.
I went and watched a movie......just turn my head to look over to make sure everything is fine.:p:
I dont know, I just set it and let it go, when I first got the cpu, didnt think anything of it since it passed the Occt 1 hour without a problem. since then I just leave it at 2.8ghz and everything I test it stays the same or goes higher I never lower it.
Yah I just watched home alone 3 with my kids, I run a controlled environment so I have nothing to worry about.
Now I'm testing 3940mhz, 2800+ NB same volts.......the fan is just intolerable however....gonna watch a bluray in other room.
http://members.cox.net/chewxs/prime2800nb.JPG
whats the cfm on that delta?? they are killer with noise
I have no clue, its extremely high,as well as the db, it can most certainly dice carrots/fingers or whatever gets in the blades...
It's my benching fan I almost never use it for prime because its not real world imo.
hmm 3940 dropped a core at 44C,must need more volts, more than I'm willing to throw at it on air. Ahh screw it I'll toss 1.6v at it for a little bit and watch temps, I dont like to break 50C on air.
youve got a tighter tolerance on your temps than I do , My limit is 60c at 100% load.......for normal 24/7 gaming it always stays behind 55c.
I have to say these cpus are 100% more stable than the phenom 1.
could you imagine if this is what we had gotten for the first Phenom what we would have gotten as Phenom 2?
They brainwashed her.....Id rather jump out the window naked from the second floor onto a bed of nails than to even sit through a minute of that show:ROTF:
Or my second choice is when the first set of commercials comes on say you got diahria.....head for the bathroom with your favorite computer magazine and dont come out till you hear the ending credit music:D
Chopped off 40Gb and installed Windows 7 X64, runs like a dream. Got my GPU stable to 750, and have been playing GTA4 for a few hours at 3.85Ghz same voltage. Much more and it bombs out with heavy CPU load.

GTA4 Benchmark, later I will try the same settings in Vista. Loading the ATI drivers causes the system to hardlock during powerplay transitions for me, anyone else have this problem? I can use the Windows Update Drivers and they work OK. And the Overdrive in CCC always claims the overclock fails, even at stock settings?!
In my opinion the system is not stable then. And they have gone to far with voltages/clocks. I have never killed a board with running prime for more than 8 hours. But i'm not clocking with high v-cores anymore. Because the performance per watt gets screwed like hell if you raise the v-core.40 watt exta for only 100 MHz. Its not worth it imo.
But i have done that in the past getting the last MHz out of chips to get the highest 3dmark 01 score :) i wonder how much power that prometia system with a 2.8 GHz Barton was using back then.
I just installed windows 7 64 also
cinebench at 3.8ghz 15,768
http://s271.photobucket.com/albums/j...=cinebench.png
Good point!
The problem for us that have been using Intel (and AMD) for a while have been "spoiled" by various Core2 Duo/Quad chips ("lucky" chips).
I have seen 100% twice with "super-cheap" E4300, 4Ghz 24/7 stable E5200 (NOK 600/USD 100) and a super-cheap MSI P45 board paired with a Q6600 (G0) 3.6Ghz@1.28VCore (24/7).
It is then difficult to be impressed by two perfectly good PII-rigs, X4 920@3.4 and X4 940@3.6 for 24/7 use (and the rigs was at least double the cost of the above Intel rigs.. as I had to get new boards/paid "new stuff-price" for the PHII rigs.
Anyhow:
I swapped my two PHII before the weekend, and could test the max for my 940 in the MSI DKA790GX board.
It is an OK chip, but nothing spectacular compared to other posters here that shows 4Ghz++ 24/7 results. :(

Wprime here, still cant get under the 10's
http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/2649/wprime1hg8.png
Decided to stick with my Exceleram and do some more testing.
Last time I checked both instances of MEMtest did a coverage of 150% without issues. Leaving them running.
This was at a HTT of 290 with 5-5-4-15. So RAM was at DDR1160, pretty cool. Im a bit bored right now because Ive still got to wait for my new Enermax Revolution 1250W PSU before I can test my new WC stuff. I didnt want to go further on air than +0.150V. Although temps weren't bad at all, 47 load, I noticed Volts have to be added way more aggresive if I go over 3.7Ghz.
When I finally get thew WC installed Ill keep current Vcore and see if there's actually an eventual increase from the cooling, then Ill wack the Vcore to 1.55~1.6 and hope to get 4Ghz. I hope 1.55Vcore is safe-ish for 24/7 but well:rolleyes: At least I hope I can make a good use of DDR1160 with above timings and somewhere around 4Ghz CPU:cool:
hey blazer what bios are you using?
I have 8.955sec on 4155MHz::cool:

I don't however just being able to boot with that voltage at 4g is quite a feat.
wow 4GHz @ stock voltage booted into Windows?
X-power 0852 is really nice chip with 4Ghz boot up on air:up:
The max for my 0849 with default vcore is 4.1Ghz, that with Single Stage cooling though...
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/625...shot112mq7.jpg
Has anyone with 4x2gb memory been able to go past 3.6GHz with DDR2-960 5-5-5-12-20-2T memory? NB Freq 2400MHz (I tried with a much lower multiplier but the CPU still didn't want to budge past 3.6GHz and I'm wondering if it is because I am using 4 memory sticks). I'm at 1.424V vCore and if I lower that, system becomes unstable.
This test is in the indoor air temperature of 18 C running, motherboard is DFI 790FXB, this voltage, CPU is very unstable and can not run the 1M, CPU temporarily loaned to a friend test, on Saturday, I will further test, before the LN2 to 1.9 v 6.11Ghttp://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=502395. But it is not the limit,Insulation does not do a good job, so the temperature can only reach the -14 * c。because the running time to time to verify documents 6.2G failure.
anyone looking for some special 945BE chips please pm me i have some that are looking for nice homes ;)
Nice, cdawall!
Also, now those 4 Gig Fx's are really starting to sound like more than just rumors..
And to take it one step further, if this info is correct then move over 45nm HKMG, there's a new king in town. :D
[edit]
Well, they can probably already say that. :)
P.S. Any idea on the NB voltage?
My 920 seems to hate clocking over 3.6GHz. Darnit!
Dammit Man... Does anyone know the Phone # for Phenoms Annonymous?
I went to Microcenter today, just to innocently look around and found they had a 940BE with the Batch Code "0852 BPFW, 900170", of course I now own it... Cheese... :p: Looks like I won't be eating out until next payday...
They had a few from the 1'st week of '09, but all the serial numbers were in the "9003xx" range, so I went for the lower number.
I've tested it for an hour or so, but so far it looks like my original may actually be a better clocker. I'm quickly running out of friends to sell tested parts too, guess I'll have to start a flEbay account....
Reguardless an hour is not a valid time to run a chip through it's paces but I was hoping for a little better @ stock v's. I'll keep you guys posted as to my results with this chip...
haha nice one Dave! I already have the 920 but the early 720BE reviews tempt me....
Should I be satisfied with these settings?
CPU: 265 x 14 = 3710mhz
CPUv: 1.52v
NB: 265 x 8 = 2120mhz
NBv: 1.42v
HTLink: 265 x 7 = 1855mhz
HTv: 1.27v
Will be tweaking my RAM but atm its only running 1060mhz 5-5-5-18-22-2T. I did try the NB multiplier at x9 with up too 1.5v on the NB but it didn't wanna boot. So I tried 275 x 13.5 = 3712mhz on the CPU to indirectly increase my NB too 2200mhz but it got unstable with those settings.
Any tips or ideas how I could improve my 24/7 clock, I am satisfied myself with the CPU but the NB clock really disturbs me, is it worth performancewise to decrease my CPU slightly and try give the NB its x9 multiplier?
well at 1.42v on the NB you could run 2.6ghz or even 2.8ghz I run mine at 1.45v 2.8ghz
why dont you try leaving the bus speed at 200 and do this
200x18.5 3.7ghz cpu
200x 12 or 13 on the nb will give 2.4 or 2.6ghz
200x10 HTT 2ghz
set ram to 1066
high fsb doesnt improve performance really your performance comes from cpu NB and memory speed. HT and bus speed dont help except for a bit more instability where you really dont need it.
I know high bus speed looks pretty but it doesnt do anything. Ive run 270 fsb with my settings as near as I could get them and saw no performance increase from leaving it at 200.
my 24/7 settings are these
200x19 3.8ghz 1.55v
200x14nb 2.8ghz 1.45v
200x10 HTT
memory 1066
look at this screenie

but now my HTT is at 2ghz since I dont see any benefit or loss right now either or.
