i started with my oc and i got 4,050mhz at the moment.... its not too much.
here there are the pics of the system and the bios settings.
i tried to get 4,2 or 4,3ghz raising the fsb to 470-480, but the bios doesnt even start at that specs.
the system is:
RAMPAGE FORMULA (SB with hr-05 sli; NB with hr-05).
E8600 with thermal extreme with 120fan.
4GB OCZ 1066 5-5-5-15
1000W CORSAIR
RAPTOR
4870X2
any help with this?? i want to have a 24/7 around 4,2-4,3ghz
lower the cpu pll voltage...for 4.2-4.3 leave it to 1.5..
performance level?also try with dram static read control disabled.

i wonder waht is blocking me from pushing a bit more.... maybe is that i have 4X1GB RAM modules?? but they are running at low speed of their specs....

From your screenshot i see you have a tRFC value of 36, try set it ho higher value, for example at 55. A high row refresh cycle time is needed to run 4x1 GB.
You may also try to set NB GTL at 0.67x
Quick question for the vets here - I'm using my Rampage formula with a Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) CAS4 DHX kit. It's specced for 4-4-4-12 (IIRC) @ 800Mhz @ 2.1v. I just can't get it stable at these settings. I tried (one at a time and then in combination) relaxing the timings (A LOT), lowered the speed to 667 (so that mem could run 1:1), increased the mem voltage slightly (to 2.2v) and it just won't get very far into the boot process (it posts fine).
Each stick is stable individually and passes Memtest, but I just can't get them working as a pair. I have them in slots 1 and 3 (counting the slots as 1-2-3-4) and using 2-4 doesn't work. I'm running bone stock at the moment in terms of other settings. I even tried a slight MCH voltage bump, but that didn't help.
Should I start playing with clock skews for each slot or should I take this as a sign that I'm not going to get very far with this kit?
CPU is a Q9450 in case that matters.
Is it possible to run ram at 1T in this board?
I set it to 1T, the board boots fine but in windows it shows 2T in cpu-z, everest, etc, but if I restart and enter the bios it says it is configured to 1T.

seems about the same as 0408 for me. using it now. no major changes at least as far as bios options go. doesn't break anything, and all my things have been working fine for the previous bios versions. My si3132 based sata2 pci-e controller card can still boot from my optical drive connected to it, which worked fine on 0408 too.Quote:

I'm not a PC expert but since I had my Rampage Formula last week, I've had nothing but trouble with the PC randomly crashing.
All I wanted was a stable machine - I have not overclocked any of the componants at all...
I was at my wits end so I tried this 0410 bios this morning and now it's running smoothly now with no random crashing anymore!

I'm beginning to suspect that it's my Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB) memory that's giving me problems!

download memtest86+ v2.01 and run a few passes of that.
also make sure that vdimm is set to what corsair recommend also in bios. probably 2.0-2.2v range i'd guess.

Hey anyone modded the northbridge heatsink before and can answer my question? Is the thermal material on there epoxy/adhesive like it was for the Maximus or is it easier to take off?

With these settings I'm getting BSOD after a few minutes running prime95. Running Vista Ultimate 64

Not sure, but your voltages seems way too high to me. Did you jumped directly to 395x9 or did you upped step by step from 266x9?
I'm using this settings for 450x8:
CPU PLL 1.50 (with LLC activated you'll get something like 1.58 in bios reading)
vNB 1.41
FSB Term: 1.30
and both SB voltages on auto, as you're not ocing PCI-e freq.
try theese settings and give us some feedback!

I upped the settings step by step untill 395x9
I've applied your settings! Post & Boot into Windows is fine & no more BSOD!!
Although I get an error message in Orthos after 2:30secs: CPU #0 no errrors: CPU #1 FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected 0.4

You're using voltages i've poste above? But for 400x9 or 450x8?
No more BSOD? This is a good starting point. Now it's time to search what is still wrong with theese settings by trying and errors.
I think you're giving enough CPU PLL and FSB Term juice, so i would try to give just a notch more vNB and see what happens, if orthos last longer you're on the right way. If nothing changes i would try a notch more FSB Term and again see what happens. Remember: just change 1 setting a time, it's more time consuming but this way you can narrow down your issue.
For now i guess you still don't need to play with GTLs: at least for me they started to became important after 460 fsb.
P.S.: i see you are giving 1.4875, it may be enough for 3.6 ghz, but if you still get errors it may be worthing up a little voltage even on it - if temps are not a problem!

I am using the voltages you posted above using 395x9.
Now, I just tried increasing vNB from 1.41 to 1.45, leaving FSB Term at 1.30. Orthos ran for longer about 4mins, but I got a BSOD!
Then I tried increasind FSB Term to 1.34, leaving vNB at 1.41. Error! Orthos ran for 6secs! Again CPU #1 being the one.
Any more ideas?
I wasn't planning on touching those untill later anyway...
Well, you may try to lower voltages! AS before, try lower nb a notch and then FSB term and see if it last longer or not.
i would also start thinking about upping CPU voltage a little bit, as usually (for me) when the same core fails is a simptom of low vCPU.
BTW for now you may also leave AI clock twister to auto and manually set performance level at 8 (you have to enable transaction booster for it)

well yes this was my conclusion also ;> Probably compounded with the fact i run 1.53V on my NB and 1.125V on my SB. Yeah, but the extra transfer to the SB heatpipe assy is phenomenal. It's amazing how poor the OE TIM on the NB really is. The heatpipe assy overall is decent to say the least, and works effectively when a good TIM is applied properly. WIth 40mm fans on the NB and SB my temps run around 32-35c on both NB/SB. I couldn't be happier with those results. The SB fan had to be fixed with double sided tape to the tops of the heat pins, offset to miss my GPU!Quote:

about using a lower multi, it depends on you and on your specific hardware. in real world a lower multi bring you very little performance boost, while benchmarking benefits a lot more, but if you're on the way to pull out every single little performance boost out of your hardware, usually the lower multi is the best choiche. but be prepared to work very hard: a high fsb implies higher voltages and higher temps but most of all the patience to find the right combinations of each settings: it's very time comsuming!

I'm having a real hard time choosing between the Rampage Formula and the Maximus II Formula... The difference in price is not an issue.
I'm going for a Q9650, but don't intend to OC. Also thinking about going for 8Gb, 4x2Gb, Corsair TWIN2X8500C5D. I did read that some people have been having issues with these? I'll likely be running CF too.
What I'm really looking for here, is stability. I'll be wanting 100% stabiliy 24/7 for about 18-24 months. Which one would you consider the best choice? I've read just about every review there is on these boards, most notably [H]ardOCP, but none of those used 4x2Gb RAM. Also none of the reviews brings me any closer to choosing one of the two.

pmp any chance of a future bios having mch and cpu clock phase (skew) adjustment, along with finer gtl ref adjustment controls? or are they all beyond the design of the board. seeing as the p5e3 bios at least has the mch/cpu clock skew adjustment, perhaps implementing it is possible on the formula too.

Does anyone have the link for the most recent intel X48 chipset drivers? I can't seem to get intel's website to work. I select my OS then select chipset and it puts me in a never ending cycle. HELP!
Also does anyone know if PCIE RAID cards such as the 3ware 9650SE 4 lane card work in the 2nd PCIE slot of this motherboard?

nah he means thats the most recent bios where you can actually use them and post ;> 0406 on have broken shadow support for at least adaptec/3ware based pci-e raid controllers. Nobody has reported Areca don't work, yet nobody has reported they do either!
by the way all current bios' are pretty much called beta. the most recent stable is 0308 I believe, but all the beta bios' released by Asus so far are stable, the title beta means nothing really except being a title. They usually have incremental fixes / support updates. Most people here all prefer using the Beta bios' anyway since they are the most recent.
um c0 is 2 steppings previous to current E0 stepping. Not all that yay, C1/E0 fixed many critical/non-critical cpu bugs. E0 the less critical, C1 more the critical.Quote:

Just got my rampag formula tonight. Put it on the bench. Hooked up a thermaltake modular 700 watt psu, e8400 C0, 2 x 4GB GSKILL 1066mhz, and EVGA GX260 video card. I have both cpu power connectors plugged in and both pcie power connectors hooked up.
I turn this baby on with the mobo power switch and everything lights up, cpu fan comes on for a few seconds then everything turns off and it restarts. no video. It just loops over and over like this. Little LCD says CPU INIT. I've tried using just 1 RAM stick in each sock and I have hit the clearn CMOS button a bunch of times.
Any suggestions. I bought this board to replace an x38-dq6 that was basically doing the same thing(3 different RMAs all with different problems, first one fired up but no video signal, 2nd board same problem, 3rd board continuous reboot just like this board) I just don't see how my psu could be the culript since everything has power, I've tried both ram sticks so how could it be that, and i am doubtful that the cpu could be the problem but I don't have any spares to test.
HELP! This is driving me crazy. I have been down for over 6 weeks and now after blowing another 300 bucks I am in the same position.....
It could possibly be your board, exchange it, i use almost an identical system, and this board loves g.skill even with 4 slots @ 8gb's, make sure there is no shortQuote:

MB is something like an ambient temperature, the sensor is usually located not too far from the CPU, if you have watercooled the setup I wouldn't pay any notice to it. You might want to suck heat off the mobo rather than blowing onto it, this is probably the reason the MB sensor reads so high, if you have a 40c + ambient temp in case, you will be circulating 40c+ air back onto the mobo when blowing towards it. Exhaust always works better in general.

I didn't realize it was disabled by default LOL. I will try that tonight. I also have a 1.8v DIMM to bring home from work to test in case my gskill memory is the culprit. I am also going to buy a PSU at Best BUy on th eway home to rule that out. That leaves processor and motherboard.Quote:

So it's not EXACTLY the same issue with each board. And the fact that it posted a few times with the 3rd board really tripped me up.....
Time to rule out the PSU and memory tonight. All that will be left is the mobo and cpu and I have never had an intel cpu die on me before.
If the cpu was dead would the lights power on and fans spin up at all. Wht happens when a cpu dies?
Ok so i tested a different power supply and a different 1.8v memory module. Same problem.
So i have it narrowed down to either this 4th bad motherboard from a seperate manufacturer or a defective CPU.
What do you guys think? Have you ever had a defective CPU that caused boards to reboot over and over?
You had the answer back when you had the CPU INIT trouble code. Basicly telling you the CPU is not there or working ect... But yes the CPU was probably damaged one way or another. It could still be your PSU toasting things so be carefull. You could put in another CPU and that same PSU might fry something.Quote:
