where are the measuring points linflas?
would the mips block set be worth it? (north / south / volt reg)? I want to watercool and thought that maybe a whole set might be a good idea?
thanks C-n, i went through the whole thread and i think it was post #895 has all the pics for all the volt readings :D
I believe that the mips PWM block isn't to great. I dont feel like digging up the thread from the water cooling forum, but it is in there if you search (relatively recent thread). I am waiting for EK water blocks.
Where are you guys connecting the SATA DVDrom drives? Sata ports 1-6 (ICH8) or 7-8 (JMicron ACHI)?
ita an ich9, if u have no pata drives then disable the jmicron
They are $276.99 at MotherboardPro and will be in stock on the 14th. Over a 1000 posts in this thread and people have to pick one almost 2 months old to complain about a price that isn't even valid now.
Thanks guys I will install the SATA DVDrom now, as the IDE's cause the board to act weird....

Anyone here with Q6600 that could help me find the max safe temps?
I'm running OCCT and my Q6600 is peaking 65oC on Smartguarding and 63 on Core Temp 0.95. Room temps: 70oF or 21oC.
CPU temp add of +7 on BIOS. Voltage and FSB etc as follow:
http://i11.tinypic.com/8b8kfom.png
Is that ok? I have an Asetek 03-L-1349 Kit Waterchill Dual 120mm Xtreme just for the CPU...
gotta give 'em props for reading the whole damn thing though.
So, I am just starting my work week, won't be able to play till Monday. Now that NB volts are fixed, going to go for the elusive 4GHZ stable Q6600.
I picked up a new Q6600 from Fry's a 40B vid is 1.2 and is doing 3.6 crunching @ 1.35V, which I may be able to drop, but have not had a chance to really play.
I am still trying to wrap my head around the bios settings. All the memory subtiming, gtl ref voltage, etc... Big learning curve for me. 14 months cursed with 680i, kinda set in my ways.
Will these "beta" bios' support a e8500? It's getting close to release.
putting mine together now, just noticed i didnt get any screws with mine... is that the case with everyone?
Origin, you could give me some link's for good stores in UK for computer parts like RAM and MB's?
Thanks in advance :) and good luck with your new TOY :D
i use;
scan.co.uk
overclockers.co.uk (some people dont like this site)
komplett.co.uk
kustompcs.co.uk
ebuyer.com
tekheads.co.uk
memoryc.com (or i will be when i get the gskill pc8000 ram)
back on topic some pics of the board plugged in :D (future hardware to come)
I've spent a few hours today cleaning my fans / heatsinks etc but ive not had a chance to turn it on yet so ill be doing that asap.

also ive tried to read the voltages but i need a nub lesson on where the ground points are
Found my 24/7 Settings.
OCZ ReaperX(2x2GB)runs very well,with the G.Skill 4GBPQ no way on Performance Level 6 ;)

hey guys, for some reason i can't flash the "x38ad111" or "x38ad109" bios. i always get this error::confused:
any hints?
http://s4.directupload.net/images/080113/5u4vd6ds.jpg
Thats just weird! I just checked the Beta site and that is indeed the lates file for you're board they have up there.
What way are you flashing Floppy right?
whats the divider do that they added to the bios right above the estimated cpu clock
not that one the "clock VCO divider" it has auto,1,2,3,4
edit - i figured it out its the boot strap 200=1, 266=2, 333=3, 400=4, or at least thats what it looks like from yahoo
dudes, i take it that a screw can be used as a grounding point when measuring the voltage?
If CPU-z is reporting that the T-junction on my e6600 is 85degrees do i need to add 15 in the bios?
Impressive, VCore Droop control @ disabled and take a look :D and also all fans are @ LOW like I'm using them most of the time!

Damn, I am a happy camper, 100% loaded with Boinc WCG on all 4 cores. This board finally made my quad dream come true. I hope to drop core voltage to down around 1.45V if things run as I think they are. I am so glad to be off of nvidia 680i.

Same here BRO, I'm just waiting for my 680i A1 to come back from RMA one more time and then I sell it. I'm done with it :D and very happy with my third DFI board one more time :)
Good Luck with it
Dede99, which bios version are you using?
I am curious because you said in that X38 thread that cpu-z works for you, with me it hard reboots the whole rig.
Because of the way the DMI data is coded in the BIOS CPU-Z currently has issues with Vista 32 and 64 Bit on this board. Franck is looking into it. As a work-around set either SMBus or Sensor to Off in the CPU-Z ini file.
i will download 3d01 and make a run, and grab OCCT, although boinc will punish all 4 cores and memory more realisticly and I believe harder than prime95 or OCCT as I have had 24 hour Prime95 and OCCT 1 hour stable rigs before that died under boinc.
I have to work again tonight, 12.5 hour shifts, so I need to get some sleep, hopefully have those up for you in 24 hours or so, when I get home on Monday morning.
thanks praz, will have a look at that
linflas I'm using 111 bios the latest since I had issues with NB voltage, and then downloaded the new cpu-z and all is fine :)
I'm on XP right now don't know about vista
K Linflas no worries, I have to get away for 10 days (Wed 16th till Mon 28th) and I won't be able to play with my Xmas toy as much as I wanted . My first board was RMA so I got little time to get it to run 450x9 till then.
What is your high temp peak on the cpu core with those settings? Did you lapp you Q6600?
I'll better show you :)
this is after I disable the VCore Droop Control
http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/9...9-VCore.th.png
and this is enabled
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/922...6-VCore.th.png
hope this helps
I'm using your setting's Praz anyways but this is just better setting for 24/7 use since my idle voltage is lower with Vcore droop OFF, but for higher OC I don't know yet, but will find out soon as I'm going to benchmark on my new board so hope I'm going over 4GHz with my Quad :D.
But I think the droop control is just doing good job so I'll leave it OFF for now until I know better :)
This is what I got so far, but for some reason I can't finish 24hrs OCCT (beta) it it reboots the PC in some point:
http://i18.tinypic.com/72av71c.png
have you tried slightly more CPU / VTT / NB CORE?
Yes and it doesn't seam to respond well I guess my CPU temp gets too high (72oC peak on Smartguardian) and it's probably due to a bad Apogee GT contact with it. I will try to sort this out when I come back from vacations by the end of the month.
I can play games and run a lot of 3d tests but when it comes to OCCT 12-24hrs it just reboots :-(
nice going there Joreibr, why you need to stress test it for 24 hour's ? I would never do this except you really do extreme stuff on your computer like video editing or 3D animations
maybe you also need to change the GTL a few 'points' , like these people http://edgeofstability.com/articles/.../gtl/gtl7.html went from 108/110 to 112/112 and they fixed their prime stability problem...
i realy hope my x38 turns up tomorrow, im getting desperate :hump:
teasing me with those 4Ghz screen shots too ;) :D
That is the issue, it is vista only problem
I just got the night off! lol, so will get those settings up tonight
Cooling is D-tek fusion, no mods, no nozzles or bowing, with 1/2" tubing on a PA 120.3 and D5 pump. Cpu is not lapped.
I hear ya, a year on 680i made me a jealous guy also, but now I am a have, not a have not
3DMark01, obviously I have no idea how to set this one up, never used it before, so compared to your score, I did something wrong, not worth my time to figure it out, as I don't play benchmarks.
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/2133/3d01se7.gif
anyone wanting to buy my DFI X38 (USA), PM me!
OCCT Stuff and bios settings, BTW huge props to Praz for the memory timings on the GSkill 2x2GB PC2-8000 Kit I have, SuperPi 32M stable, so all is good, thanks Praz!

Thanks for the settings Linflas I will try to get there.
But I noticed I don't have this setting:
"Execute Disable Bit.......................Enabled"
EDIT: I did a clear cmos and the value appeared again. Go figures.
My Bios is the latest Beta to correct NB volts...
i replied to your PM
http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=3129 says that:
counterintuitive, indeed.... maybe it should be better named 'vcore droop allow' than 'control' , by some miracle of engineering they have made the board inherently droop-proof ,and they have to artificially re-introduce the vdroop just to be safe, perhaps...Quote:
VCore Droop Control: Set this function to DISABLED for overclocking; counter-intuitively, the ENABLED setting causes the CPU core voltage to sag when the CPU is placed under load.
Dunno, Intel spec ask for this vdroop on thier chip, it is probably a safety measure, don't know the tech side of it, better safe then sorry, keep it enabled.
well, more fun, Vista64, Aero enabled 3870's 860/1200, no tweaks, 68 background process. LOL!

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=4693257
wow i need a quad and a second 3870
okay since this is not just an overclocking thread but also a discussion thread among other things... what do you think are the prospects of using a geforce card in an x38 board... SLI is a remote possibility, i've heard that you need to modify the bios to do it, or maybe even just the drivers ... or can something other than a graphics card use the x16 lane, such as a high powered PPU coming out in the near future?
any single graphics card will use the x16 lane... what do you think of the possibility of using like, having a geforce card as my main graphics card, but sticking a radeon into the second x16 slot, and downloading the drivers to turn it into a PPU ... there has been talk about using a graphics card to do physics, i wonder if its going to be a worthwile use of the second x16 slot...
i've got this ram http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...b_dual_channel , nobody can tell how well its gonna work in the board?
anyne running this and a yorkie, ES especially?
my ES QX9650 runs like a dog (its a known good chip though) on the P35 T2R so thinking of trying this board out.
I am sure they will run great in the x38, I have heard the OCZ & G.SKILL play fine together in the same board ;)
Praz is running over 1100mhz with the G.SKILL kit on warranted voltage so if you need a start point I am sure he would be the best person to ask.
CN :)

My OCZ ReaperX runs better then the G.Skill :)
With OCZ on Performance Level 6,the G.Skill is hard to run with Performance Level 7.
No this is a long way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBxZK...eature=related
If you dont try you will never know.
CN :)
now that is a long way
i saw a side photo in the newspaper the other & that video does'nt do it justise, it a fecking huge jump. proper nutter
my mobo does'nt look like its getting delivered today after all, as it 4:30pm already :( . ive got a day off tomoz so im crossing my fingers.
You guy's talking about Gskill and OCZ ram's how about Crucial Balllistix Tracer I was going to buy those bc I think they work very well with our board's like I have seen, if anybody could tell me what's really better I would appreciate it :)
just checked the UPS tracking thingy & they have just updated & its now in Barking UK. that was the first update since leaving the deport in Herenboegen on saturday morning 2:00am.
so it should be in a van & on it way tomoz :)
ordering with HPM is'nt a good idea from the UK if u dont have a paypal account & u need what ever it is ure buying quickly.
after all i did a direct transfur @ my bank last monday & the money was taken out the nextday with & agent's charge of 10 euros from the german bank. then nothing goes through with HPM till i get the UPS email on friday.
on top of the 10 euro agents charge i had already payed a charge at my bank to get the money wired quickly lol rather than 4-5days with out a charge
just get a paypal account then :D its free...
ill defo be ordering from them again
I just ordered Crucial DDR2 BallistiX TRACER PC8500 2048MB CL5 Kit :D hope they will arrive end of next week.!
u need to use CCC for mhz and set fan speed in ATT
doing htat mine runs at 877/1377
Well got the board a few days ago after owning the P35-T2R a few monts.
The board take's a bit longer to boot and doesn't handle the 480 FSb the P35 could.
But !
RAM OC is completely sick
I can run my 4x 1GB Ballistix PC8500 at DDR1273 on performance level 6 @ 2.36V ! :D
http://xs123.xs.to/xs123/08031/x38_d...280.jpg.xs.jpg
I tested all the beta biosses wich are out but the only one and by far the most stable one is the only official one and 1st release !
looks as if he is running at PL6, praz.
Reboot issue? When I restart my comp then it turns first OFF then back on and then OFF again, and after it turns back on and starts up or sometimes it hangs with C1 error on the display. Do you guy's experience the same issue ?
