I have been having trouble with my 2900 locking up at at boot or reboot or after a shutdown, it hangs and the red light stays stuck on. I have to turn the power supply off and keep trying to boot sometimes several times to get it to boot. I do not notice this with default bios settings. I did not notice this being a bios issue but now that you mention it seems trouble started after I flashed to F5 Final...Quote:

I am running a DS3P v1.1 right now. My crucial PC8000 1GB stick needs 2.1v to be stable @ 1200 5-5-5-15 on slot 1 or 2; but it needs 2.3v to be stable on slot 3 or 4. That's a huge difference. Is it just me, or has anyone noticed the same thing?
I think this board might be defective and I may need to RMA it.

I am happy with the results I've got from this budget ram and was wondering....
Given the ram compatibility with my ds3 would you think it safe to assume it would also work fine with a P35-DS3R?
Also, do you think 1 gig ram sticks would perform as well as my current 512's?
Could accept a minor performance hit but nothing too drastic :D
(Sorry if my question seems naive but never really been a major student of memory performance.....just a cheapskate cruncher):p:

You should have no problem. Just about every stick of ram that I have used has clocked as well or better on the p35 from the p965. If you are going with a quad though, you should really have 2gb ram. If that is 4x512, I haven't tried that, but I don't think you'll have any trouble.Quote:

Well last night I decided to remove all the copper heatsinks off my DQ6 and was shocked to see that the contact points where :banana::banana::banana::banana:.
The P35 chip had decent contact but the TIM was rock hard. There was only 1 impression in the heatsink pad for the MOSFET modules around the CPU.
I had applied Artic TIM and also used some heat resistant o-rings on the nuts for the north bridge to add additional pressure. I felt there was too much movement for the block on the northbridge.
Normally I could put my finger on the heatsink and not feel much heat, now when I do this the heatsink is warm.
The standard TIM pads that are shipped with the motherboard obviously do not do what they are meant to do.
Hmm...so they use thermal pads and not a paste? Also, if you remove the pad and use a paste like AS5 will there be a gap since the space before was larger than what a thin layer of paste will be? My heatsinks always are hot.Quote:

This is not good, if the heatsink is now only warm, it means that it is getting less heat into it than before, if it were hotter then it would be doing a better job of getting the heat from the bits on the motherboard.
Check your temps via software to see what they were before and now.
Say what? If the heatsink is cool then that means it is not absorbing heat. If it is warm/hot that means it is absorbing heat. Your airflow will determine how cool it stays, but if all you did was replace the tim and your airflow remains the same then the heatsink getting warmer in my eyes would be a good thing. If there was say no contact between the chips and heatsink before and now there is contact obviously the heatsink will be much hotter than before.Quote:

I was wondering if anyone using the new 1333fsb C2D's E6750/6850 still has the double post/boot issue when overclocking using the P35 motherboards.
Whilst I recognise that the double post/boot issue with Intel Chipset boards is not considered a fault, I am concerned about any potential damage to ther components such as hard drive etc.
I currently have an E4400 with a P35 DS3 and the only way around the double post/boot issue I have found is to use either the 3.33 or 4 X ram multiplier. The only problem with using these multipliers is that when I start raising the FSB, I start to run into problems overclocking my RAM
Current settings are FSB = 285 X 10 (2850 mhz) RAM @ 3.33 = 475 mhz @ 5,5,5,18 / 2.0 volts.
The chip is capable of more than 3.2 ghz, but my RAM is unstable over 500 mhz - which is not surprising since they are only Corsair PC6400 DDR2 - using ProMos chips.
Obviously I would not be able to overclock a 1333 FSB CPU very far using such a high RAM multiplyer, if I run into double post/boot problems.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

i am dumbfounded and peeved that gigabyte still uses the retarde +2 +3. +4 etc etc voltage settings.
also even more appauling is the fact that you have to overvolt in the bios for vcore to get the proper voltage.
and not a little, alot.
1.56 = 1.48v retarded.
i also had a helluva time installing windows, infact probably the hardest time i have had in years.
lastly,,,, and again VERY shocked and pissed off that gigabyte did this sh|te again.
they are shoving all the key hardware items on the same fvcking IRQ's.
NIC's Sound cards, Video cards all need their own isolated IRQ god damn it!

There is nothing wrong with having "rock hard" TIM. It is actually usually pretty good to use thermal pads for chipsets, etc since the surface of those heatsinks tend not be as flat. The thicker pad fills the void. Probably the most useful thing you can do is add some tension to the heatsink screws by adding paper washers or what have you.
When the pad heats up, it melts and fills in the empty space. It stays in a liquid state when above 40-50C and when it cools back down it hardens again. Perfectly normal function.
I'm wanting to get closer to a 500fsb but I'm having trouble getting over 400 stable. I know 400 stable isn't anything to be depressed over but I would like to see it get a little higher.
Currently:
e6400: 3.2 @1.45v [Everest reports 1.41] (Don't want to go higher than this because I'm on air [This was purchased around Aug 06])
FSB: 400 @ +.1v
PCI: 100 @ +.1v (Not sure if I need this just upped it .1 for the hell of it)
MCH Overvolt @ +.1v
Team Elite 667 3-3-3-8: 800 @ 2.15v (3-3-3-8)
Temps: 44c idle, 52c load on a Zalman 9500 (This could be limiting? But the temps aren't that bad)
All told prime/orthos stable @ 2hours (Wanted to mess around and lower voltages before I go all night)
Thats pretty much it, regardless of how I change the multiplier or what voltages I put on FSB (I've gone up +.2v still no change) it hangs on Windows loading (It boots @420 w/x7 multi). The ram will go up to 550 @ stock voltages (Tested) so I'm not sure where the limiting factor here lies. I'm assuming that my e6400 just doesn't want to go over a 400mhz FSB. But I've fed it and been good to it :shrug:
Also, I know 1:1 gives the best performance but if the ram will run 1200 should I change divider and let it run 1200?
As an aside I'm not sure I believe the temps that coretemp is giving me, bios shows 36c while coretemp shows 44-46c idle. Bios also shows NB at 26c which is close to ambient but speedfan reports 28-30c idle. I turned the warning on at 60c in the bios but nothing happens when I reach that. Although to be honest I'm not sure what the bios would do when it reaches that temp (Does it throttle?) but I see no change.

Not sure if its my board or what but machine crashed crunching in the middle of the night and now even at stock speeds I am getting so many errors I can not even get windows installed without errors at stock speed. I think linux said cpu soft error on the screen when I went in there yesterday morning and I have had no luck getting linux or windows installed, I tried all day yesterday. Lots of files are in the cabs folder its not limited to any one program. Windows stores programs there.

I have to add alot of PCIE voltage over 450fsb(obviously the SB is suffering). 450 is fine at default but for 455 it needs +0.2v and 458 +0.3v with 460fsb being no-go. Time to get another board me thinks.:(

After making some changes Standby -S3 worked overnight for the first time.

Funny thing is 1.35000 is not stable, nor is any higher voltage up to 1.36250.
According to all my monitoring programs 1.34375 is a slight increase in voltage under load compared to the Auto setting.
Does anyone know where to read Vcore externally on the GA-P35-DS3P with a VOM?
It'll take a while before I am 100% sure this is completely stable. But it is 2 hours Othos stable so far.
I plan on passing this info on to Gigabyte as soon as I have this verified.

It worked once but another 4 hours later it failed. So although this is closer to working correctly. It still does not work.

This :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing bios is full of mudakunt hot :banana::banana::banana::banana: what the :banana::banana::banana::banana: is going on with the pci-e slot as soon as i hit 400fsb the slot is put into x1 mode which results in 5 frames at most when i'm gaming or is this problem just happening on my rig? I see no one else posting about this problem but it just pisses me off so badly. Anyone know how to fix this seriously annoying problem?
Any F6 feedback yet....I 'm not brave enough to be one of the first ones.
F5 and F6 bios run my pci-e slot in x1 mode at 400fsb and above. My 8800 gts just loves this and rewards me with below the teens framerates in my games.
Upgrade to F6 using @bios enable the options Clear DMI and clear PnP?
Go into the BIOS on the next boot and choose "load Optimized defaults"
F10 to save.
Let it post and detect all the hardware.
If you do not want to go to windows hit F12 and stick a memtest CD in the DVD and choose that to boot from.
Reboot
Change your settings to what you want. Make sure that the PCIe bus is set to 100Mhz!
Post and enter windows........
Then recheck if the PCIe slot is going X1
You notice any difference? I will wait until I get my 2900xt back from RMA myself..Quote:

Someone please check your c:\windows\Options\CABS folder for a file named _desktop.ini. I did a McAfee Virusscan and it says it is from the W32/HLLP.Philis.ini virus. It is the remnants of the virus and the file inside has a date of 2007/3/27.
I installed the OS, and checked, there is no _desktop.ini file
Then I installed the drivers from the Gigabyte CD, tweaked some settings, and the _desktop.ini file is there.
It is from one of the drivers, or on the gigabyte disk, and the virus infected the disk on 2007/3/27. They cleaned it, but the file is a trace of the infection.
At this point, I suspect it it nothing more than a False Positive. But I would like someone to confirm they have this file without the virus. Thanks

I had to decrease it with F6 to get 16x over 400 FSB.
I just came to ask what I did to my bios, my 8800ultra is giving me 4500 in 3dmark6 instead of 13,500 as before, found pcie is at 1x instead of 16x, looks like i am not the only one. I guess its when I updated my bios from F4. Geesh, took me forever to figure out why my game was running so choppy. I will send tech support an email as well.

^ Did you try rebooting and check if PCI-E will stick at 16x? Because If I do the same it's indeed 16x, but once I reboot, it's back to 1x again :s
Just rebooted 3x, still each time I am in 16x. I have F6 Bios, with Robust Graphics booster on fast, Performance on turbo, pcie 105, and pcie overvoltage +0.05. Dont know if any of those other settings matter.Quote:

cpu-z 1.40 says the revision of my P35-S3 is 02, but on the Gigabyte site it's said the 2nd revision will come soon... how to find my revision out?
