i dunno.. im gonna be away for the weekend... but some time next week ill take a shot at being stable folding at about 5.1 to 5.15

If I wanna join..what do i do? I have 4 PC's and they are on all the time...
One other thing you'll need to do, post in the halloween roster thread and join team whiskey. ;)
We could use all the help we can get right now.
well...I think it is running..my user is charged3800z24. I have one cpu client running in the tray on one ssytem. My wife is upset cause it is late and I woke her up.... I will do more tomarrow...
you guys want me on a team?
Aww come one Whiskey is far enough behind already RR
Charged, system tray? What hw do you have? Btw if you're joining any team other then whiskey don't even bother to answer I'll probably give you bad advice ;) But if you join Whiskey, then I can let you in on all those lil secrets like which clients do more work ( though I don't go for max points, I go for max science  ).
Whisky team = Good drink, nice girls , fast cars
Tango team = Synthetic juice ... yuck
Foxtrot team = a word that's used in the airforce for a FUBARed mission explains anything
Take your pick :hehe:
Damn power went out for a whole 5 seconds this morning, enough to shut off all my crunchers/folders =(.
After that bunk project earlier this week, my numbers are not doing so great.
So...what is Team 36362?... I thought that was where I was posting.. I am lost here? I installed the x86 client from a link on the previous page or 2. It says it is folding 0/500 now.. it wasn't even connectiing last night..
Edit, sythetickiller explained it too me. lol I am dumb..
XtremeSystem is team 36362, but we are having a little competition. Link to details. And since we are kinda lacking at the moment, team whiskey could use some help.
EDIT: hmm, looks like I was too late.
well I guess if Team whiskey needs help I'll join it..
I am running multiple PC's...AMD 4200+ x2 (3.0ghz) Phenom 9950 BE (3.4ghz) The Phenom system has 2 HD 4850's 1 stock and one 800core. I have the 2 PCs running a x86 client and they are working right now. I just got them going. I wanna do more but do not know how etc..
My employer might be donating me a Dual CPU quad core Opteron 45nm setup (when they arive) for folding.
:eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2::eek2:
Wow, lucky. I wish my employer was that generous.
What OS are you running? If its XP or Server2k3 then you can grab the GPU2 client from here
If Vista/Server2k8 then get this one.
Then you can follow the guide over here or ask us and we'll help you set up a multi gpu system.
Don't forget you can use the SMP client instead of the uniprocessor, it will do more work using the same resources ( well, the x2 should be running two uniprocessor clients, the x4 (phenom) should be runing 4... if you want to efficiently run the most inefficient client ;) ).
The real deal.. those you can get here http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther
I suggest you use the deino client for the cpu's, and offcourse the latest gpu2 client for your os
Welcome to the team :welcome: and I happy Folding
Imo yes. Though some might disagree, and I sinned in the past as well, deleting wu's is a bad thing to do because stanford will keep waiting on them to be returned ;)
What's the eta according to fahmon?
Good catch RR I should have mentioned that :am:
I'm not doing well today:shakes:
Well since they won't use AMD systems...the wont want any 65nm parts :shakes: I just told them I prefered the Opteron system. But that would be nice if they were that generous...
I don't know where you mean..I have it set to pause when done..
well, it says 215/500...on the taskbar icon...I don't know how to view my projects in FahMon yet..I don't know where the informatijn is stored for each client..
Sorry tray client, we're not so used to that hehe..
Fahmon just needs to point to the location you run the client from, I think the 504 doesn't place it in some special folder like the gpu client does standard. you can check the location with right clicking on the shortcut and browse destination folder or something alike. Fahmon needs to be pointed to that location when you add a client.
The console client is using one core and it could take awhile to finish.
Huh I just went about overboard maybe telling people not to trash a wu, but it might be even more scientificly sound to trash that one and get the smp going. I'll restain from giving advice the rest of the evening..
I see it might take a while.. though the Phenom is a lot farther along then the X2. I am trying to figure this SMP client.. hopefully I can get everything going.. I did get FahMon reading both systems...thanks for the info  I am up for any other pointers :D
Well you need to be a lil specific my mind is having troubles keeping up with my mouth uhm fingers today
I only folded on a venice3200 before I moved to intel, so idk what the actual speed diffrences are. I think the phenom for single core apps in most cases should be slower then an agena but like I said not sure. Anyway, there are a 100 members here willing to help you out, like I said as long as you keep it in team Whiskey
do I need to make a custom config file to use the "-oneunit" flag...
how do I set one project to run on more then one core..?
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Guide
That's the best place to start. These can be pretty tricky animals to play with, the high performance clients, and you should really read up abit on them if you are to tame and contain them properly.
Now excuse me, I might not be sober this evening, so if you want personal advice, I'm not the one you should look to  But when I come back tomorrow and you're still not running I'll set you up ( that's a promise ).
edit: just to proof that, I had the reply open so long that I even missed a post made 20 minutes ago  Dak, got goose?
No problem I feel much better now
Well, I have one GPU client going..And I already have points scored..so I think everything is working.. I am stilllearning. but so far so good i guess... Now how do we track per inner team..ie whiskey, etc.?
Now to get my signature showing stats..:)
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...800z24&t=36362
Tracking the inner competition, we rely on Mike still giving us the charts. I think next contest ( where did I hear that before? ) there will be something abit more dynamic there but for now..
http://www.scootplace.net/fah/XS/halloween/
tobad that the PS3 client is out of jobs. :(
I love the GPU client...it just rolls right through them..
Can you use the -smp flap on the GPU client for multiple cards?
or can you have 2 seperate jobs running, one on each?
Thinking about changing teams and XS looks like a team with some spirit .......
Anyone changed teams before?
Do I simply change team number on my clients and what about my passcode (do a need a new one for a new team)?
Cheers! Keep up the good work.
I changed teams from rage3d to XS (they were too quiet over there :p:) and just changed my team number. This was a few years ago though before the passkey (and I still don't have one actually) so I'm not sure about the passkey.
I swichted around some.. count the teams my username is listed in, their all me ( well except ocau though I did add some points to him as well to make up for not having the most unique username :) )
Anyway, yeah passkey teis your points to you, though I'm not entirely sure how that works anyway
I'm not that worried someone will abuse my account anyway, I might have allot of people who don't like me but I'm hoping they for better things to do :rotf:
Welcome to XS Folding team and I hopy you a pleasant stay :hrhr:
Edit.. Rus.. do we know eachother?? I'm thinking we do! And if so, an even warmer :welcome: from me :)
edit: charged it's multiple clients, one on each :)
I'm not using a key either. just username and team number...
I'm just curious. but I'm trying to figure out how someone could abuse your fah username... other than they could turnin points for you, but that's not really abuse, it's a gift.
LOL, "I dislike this guy, so I'm gonna teach him and dedicate a 8800gt in his username. when he sees those extra points, man that's gonna be sweet revenge"..
If someone did that to me, I'd say "Thanks, dude!" :D
anyway. I just dont get it... what's the scoop with fah account abuse? what am I missing?
Well look at this for example, if I changed my installer to change accounts during run time to mine, they would zero my points entirely :)
Which is why I don't do that, and which is why I ask people who configure clients to fold under anonymous to fold under 'Marvin_The_Martian (36362' and people who fold for team 0 to join XS, I don't force them but I ask :yepp:
It has been one of the reasons I delayed the installer as I'm sure some people who can't read a messagebox with the above question will 'accuse me of cheating' that's just how many people seem to dislike me
Thanks for the Welcome guys
I will be powering all my rigs down for a long weekend and will be joining XS team from Monday!
now I am confused...
zero points...
and your installer is message asking people to fold under your name and team....
that sounds more like a result of you abusing fah's policy "don't borg people's machines without their permission"... it doesn't sound like someone else abusing your account...
I'm just gonna try and forget...
Yeah, it's confusing but there are two scenarios-
First, someone else starts folding using "your" name and team number - so they are actually adding to your score (unless the Passcode actually works and both parties have one linked to their own Email address).
Second, someone else maliciously adds a user with your name to another team which then starts at Zero points (same as changing teams)
However, I don't think they can wipe out your existing points stored in the Stanford FAH database ............
yeah, but you can fold for however many teams you want, and at the same time. the points don't overlap, and they are recorded separately...
I've done it myself or XS and OverclockingWiki..
and we have other users here like RR and wfo that fold for multiple teams. and switch back and forth from time to time.
so switching teams really doesn't affect anything. points stay where you folded them.. the only way they get zeroed out is if Pande comes in and catches you borging machines illegally, they'll wipe you out. that actually happened to someone here at XS... it was before my time, but I stumbled into it on fah one day. maybe some of the old timers will remember it. edit: found it http://www.rage3d.com/board/showpost...9&postcount=53 it was on the old fah forum, but they lost it last when the forum was transferred.
all folding for a new team does is pops a new separate stat in for your teams list... it doesn't zero out your user for any of the other teams you're folding for..
Ah Hah - now it makes sense, so what Marvin is saying is that someone can pretend to be you and make it look like you are Borking machines to get you Zero'ed unless you use a Passcode (which only you have)!
Yup :D
Now Rus, you're an old onion right :poke:
now that makes a little more sense.... but that would take a lot of effort and time... you'd have to be a desktop tech or in IT app distribution and go around installing it probably hundreds of machines in the target user's name... and hope that it gets caught and reported... and it would eventually get traced back to you anyway either through trouble tickets of the pc's you touched or by your admin account in app distribution on a network.. or in marvin's case, because he wrote the app... so all that effort to get someone's points zero'd and it costs you your job. that's a stretch..
I was a Novell Zen App distrtibution admin at a hospital for about 5 yrs, and believe me, everything I distributed or made app images of was tagged with my name.. even the crap that wasn't my fault and someone goofed in the configuration documentation when I built the image.. just because I created and distributed the network distribution object, my name was on it as the last logged admin. so I was the first one to get the call, then I traced it back to where the problem was and who was responsible. then it ended up on their plate or their bosses plate depending on how serious it was. but eventually the person who was responsible for it took the heat.
if I were in marvin's shoes, the safest bet would be leave the username and team name as required fields, then display a message on blanks that states "you have not filled in required info" and halt the install. then leave it up to them to go figure it out which team and username they want. if they got as far as dl'ing the app, I'm sure they aren't that clueless..
:welcome: aboard! Good to have you join the team.
 ;)
I'm uploading some new images, you can see what I mean then :yepp:
maxTray coming along nicely, had some issues with splitcontrols not behaving as I wanted and even messing up the entire form
Starting to put the fahwatch options over now ect, still some work but still :)

I'm seeing ghosts sorry :rotf: Some names just look to familiar, you remind me of an onion.. His nick was Rus64 to iirc, but I can't check there
Speaking of passcodes and whatnot, I'd assume I go somewhere on the Stanford site and it generates one for me ? I'll admit to not having researched it yet... So please, feel free in the meantime to give me some points, sign up as Donald_A._Perlick !
That was quick, thanks !
Yup quick ey :sonic:
Where lucky I guess I just refreshed the control panel and saw it so quick :oscar:
Where's my cookie?
Look under C:\windows
Got it thank you
I am now folding for team 36362! I figured I've waited around long enough, now it's time to help out a bit. As this is my main system, I probably won't be doing this 24/7 but it will at least be on all night and as I'm surfing the web.
My user name is ltrave.
good stuff...it get addicting...the ever lasting search for more ppd
anywho official welcome to xs FAH team
:welcome:
I'm in. Name's Sliced_Cheese
4.2 GHz of Wolfdale-y goodness on your side :D
cool glad to see ya want to crunch welcome MR cheese.
mmmmm cheeeeeese
http://www.hotchickshotpicks.com/wp-...led_cheese.gif
Haha, yes, is there anything cheese can't do? Hmmm...... liquid cheese cooling perhaps.....
@delicious milk-product
Why don't you make your 8800GT also fold?
Welcome cheesy :D
Haha well I'm a noob at this so.... how do i check my ppd? and, how do i fold with my card?
EDIT: Also, why doesn't it use 100% of my cpu?
alright for the ppd use Fahmon or Fahspy...they are fairly similar
for your card http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther then download the one that corresponds to your card...if you use vista click the 4th one down
100% of cpu depends on a few things...did u make sure it was the SMP one?...if not it is on the same page as that download
also i noticed that sometimes the first run will not be at 100% but afterwards it will be
Ok, well a gpu temp of 88 tells me that i have indeed got the gpu folding going.
The monitoring confuses me though, I'm not sure how to get it working.... I don't suppose there's a guide on something so simple anywhere? lol
EDIT: got it workin 5600 ppd on my card, 950 on my cpu, only 70% usage though...
What OS you running?
You can use rivatuner to adjust the fan on your graphics card. I suggest doing that to bump the fan speed up some to cool the card down a little :)
+1
Yes, if you don't cool that puppy down, it will error out on you.
Use Rivatuner or EVGA Precision tuner to jack your fan speed up.
:wtf:
Haha, don't worry I cracked out Rivatuner right away and cranked the fan, got er down to a cool 72 at max load.
What happened to the smp client? I don't see it on the download page.
Got it.
Now lets see if I can get it working right.
It is only using 25%
I installed the second client and it jumped up to 50%.
I have been having this problem since they changed the client months ago.
I had the problem since they started asking about the affinity lock in the smp install.
look at that walkthru http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=199283
sounds like you are running a single core wu, which means your -smp flag isn't working...
-stop the client, delete the work folder and queue.dat file.
-then make sure you have the flags in the shortcut like the linked walkthru... the old 5.9x clients didn't need a smp flag, but the 6.2x clients do, because they are the single core and smp core client in the same pkg. if you dont flag it to run in smp mode, then it defaults to single core client (which would be 25% cpu on a quad).
-if you're on a intel quad follow that guide I posted for installing and running dual smp on a intel quad, and it'll get you hooked up for about 3-4K ppd depending on the cpu you're on. the walkthru is short, so you might just want to delete everything you have and start over. it's only like 6 steps, and you'll be good to go on dual smp's.
If you put -smp in your config then let it run it doesn't work. That's why people say run config only. However if you stop it and delete the work folder then re-start it should load an SMP and fold on.
If you are running a quad you can run two smp's
Edit: Mike beat me to it
So when you are setting it up what do you do with the affinity lock?
Also right now I set one core to big projects and the other to normal and the normal is busting through each project in about 3 minutes.
I'm at work right now so I'll have to mess with it tomorrow. :(
there are no smp units that finish that fast... plus big/normal means nothing in smp, all smp units are all big, the setting does nothing. smp unit's take a minuimum of 12 hrs to finish.. my Q6600 takes about a day per wu running dual smp at 3.3ghz in vista..
only reason you need affinity lock is for xp when running smp/gpu combo. and I believe the new nvidia driver removes that need. (though I couldn't say, since I'm all vista). one of the xp guys needs to confirm..
post tomorrow with more info on what hardware and what os... and we can help more. it's pretty easy once we know those 2 things.
I'm not sure what setup you're running now with 3 minute wu's.. that sounds weird, that's like 2 second frames...
so tomorrow, post the hardware and os you want to fold on, and we can give you the setup for it.
It is a Q6600 clocked at 3GHZ. I had it at 3.2 but I was getting errors in the folding results. I guess the stock cooler can only get you so far.
I want to run the gpu client but I don't want to buy a nvidia card. The reason: I have an intel chipset that will allow me to run crossfire, and ATI is a better buy right now.
ati has a client, just use the dl link posted above systray ati http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther (also fah has guides linked next to the dl's now)
ati may have some issues, but there are guys on here folding with ati. also IIRC crossfire is not supported for the ati client, so you have t run 2 clients for 2 cards.
start a new thread when you get rolling if you have issues and post complete troubleshoot info.. you're posting in a "who wants to fold, welcome thread". not everyone reads this thread. (44pgs).
hey guys, new here and just started reading up on folding. seems like a great cause and would like to help.. how much stress does folding put on a machine? it might be in one of the posts above, but there are several threads that i'm reading through, but is there a way to minimize/maximize the stress on the system?
Welcome and yes you can adjust the amount of stress. there is a setting, but i always run @ 100%
it depends on what stress is, i dont think it does any harm at all to a CPU is you run it at 100% 24/7, even thought it seems hard on it
if you have a graphics card that is a 8-series or above, id recommend folding with that. GPU's fold way faster than CPU's and a busy GPU wont slow down your computer when your using it like a busy CPU can
Count me in. My ATI CARDS won't do any good but will try my best :).
