(03) Support "Auto OverClock Technology" function new mode, modify item option, option "Max FSB" will run once, "Max FSB Elite" will always run, if need support please set token "Auto_OC_Mode" to "1", and modify help string.
(04) Added OC Dial Green Power Button function code for 7579 and added token to define support Green Power Button function code.
(05) Use token define OC fail retry time, token default set to 4 times.

finally they got it fixed, been a pain using the oc dial to max out the core and have a system reboot

Installed 1.5b7 and all is well. I haven't played with addl. OC yet but my board temps are fine, for some reason I ran warmer with 1.5b3-5. So I guess a good report is I notice nothing as of yet the way I am set, but that's a good thing, right. I Bios OC only, but I might have to set basic and see how the OC dial works now and to (for fun) try max FSB again. I never got a steady stable auto FSB/Max when I played with it.

That's me too. My rig is all installed and tucked away so it doesn't make much sense for me to use the OC dials on the board each time when that would require me to tear the case open each time and move it. Although I'm sure its an invaluable tool for those that run this board open and for serious benching/tweaking.

I do not think the OC Dial way of Overclocking beats a BIos updates setting and adjustment availabilities. Same for AOD, MSI Overclock Program or Software OC programs in general. The OC Dial can be awesome for the 'I need a boost' for quick changes in demends and needs. Set you memory and voltages as suggested with the Dial, run near stock CPU Ghz and turn it up with the dial while running and as needed is good for users that prefer thier OC's that way, and mabie it's better than a 'Set" (ocassionaly modified) Bios OC becuase a set Bios OC is just that set and running 100% of the time overclocked. It can be confusing for some people because there are just so many options to overclock. AOD has never set or worked correctly for me... I need more info on how to use AOD if I were to try again but for those that get success out of AOD at least it is tied to the Bios and not just a software OC. And as overclocking is experimental looking for success I will but have not yet seen what I can get to with 1.5b7. For fun I will see if MAX/FSB will show me a real max FSB setting as an option to my Multlipier OC. Although I don't think I need to move FSB much for a good OC with the success of Multlipier increases.
What's the opinion out there... Multlipier or FSB Overclocks, which do you think is better? I ask with 'Unlocked" BE edition CPU's, locked I understand FSB as the way to OC. I think OC through Multlipier and only a slight FSB works better than a high FSB OC. Educate me... am I right? (Unlocked 'BE' CPU's only because locked ones need FSB)

My Ultra X3 1000w PSU has a 4pin or 8pin 12v atx cable. When I got this motherboard it had a tiny piece of plastic covering the bottom half of the atx 12v port (top left of the board). Is there a difference between running the 4pin or the 8pin? I've been running the 8pin ever since i've had it, just curious.

Other than safety and efficiency of having more available wires for power delivery it's the same. I wouldn't overclock a 125w/140w cpu just using the 4pin 12v though.

Yea, the plug is just a throw away. It's there so if you do not have an 8pin you know which section of the connector to use. Like Shadwon419 said you want 8pin power for a demanding OC. But if your running lower wattage CPU, you don't need the extra feeds as much, but still better. You have no signature filled out so we don't know your equipment, but a 1000w, give it the 8pin.

sorry for not having the sig before. i do have the 125w cpu and i gave it the 8pin from the beginning because i figured it was necessary, otherwise why would it be there :)

hy guys I'm having some problems with this mainboard and my ram...first i though one stick was gone but i checked one single stick with memtest with a bootable cd and all 2 sticks are fine alone..but when i put them in dual channel here start the problems..can't passa 10 seconds of memtest, the pc just reboot after few seconds..and this at every speed/timing/voltage..i tried a lot of settings but the result is always the same..no stability on ram when 2 sticks are onboard..anyone have this same issue? the ram is ocz 1600mhz cas7-7-7-24 1,9v

Soulman84: If this is a New Build it could be that you have non-compatiable memory for AMD. There has been quite a lot of people that over sighted the need for specific AMD tested memory. If I ntel memory is ised... What Model number sticks do you have? Are you installing in the "First two lanes closest to the CPU (Black ones)? Plus, although AMD CPU's can OC to 1600 memory in most cases, it has little to no real benefit for 1333 based AMD CPU's. Don't let that be a problem because they run fast on 1333 (or less). You can set your 1600's to 1333 like I did when I tested and learned. Specificaly I have seen several OCZ Memory AM3 topics, look up your model number (search) and see what others have done.

Not trying to redirect the tread but I have a p II 720 at 3.6ghz with nb/cpu at 2600mhz, ocz amd special 1600 @ 1333 6-6-5-23-28 1t, and the 790fx-gd70 mb. When setting my overclock I passed with flying colors, 36 hrs prime blend stable, 50 passes linX, and 5 hours prime blend + furmark (to test worst case gaming scenario) and memtest about 15 passes. Every thing ran fine until I starting using ventrilo to talk in game while playing cod4 online. I occasionly (like once every other day or so) have the sound freak out, it sounds like a cd skipping and then all sound is lost. In the event viewer I am given this message for application errors.

Faulting application AUDIODG.EXE, version 6.0.6001.18000, time stamp 0x47919c2a, faulting module RtkAPO64.dll, version 11.0.6000.101, time stamp 0x4a497c35, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x00000000000d2af3, process id 0x15c, application start time 0x01ca2f5294dccb02.

I have tried 3 different Realtek drivers, reinstalling ventrilo and cod4. Nothing seems to help. I went as far as lowering nb/cpu to 2400 (i had ran for a few months fine on another motherboard at approx. 3600cpu speed and 2400nb/cpu speed without issue. I am wondering does this sound like i have a defective sound chip (i have no other major issues, no blue screens, no freezing video or restarting games, no other apps have ever freaked out) or should i be pointing fingers at my overclock. Posted here because obviously alot of people reading this thread have same board as me and wanted to know if anyone has been having issues with onboard realtek sound.

Its your overclock my friend. Those are the exact symptoms mine will have when its not 100% stable for whatever reason.

yes this is a new build....I'm using ocz3p16004gk and i have problems at any frequences, also 1333..when i test 1333mhz with memtest after few seconds the system reboot..i've tried to change slot for black ones to blue ones with no results..tried also to go 2T mode...

I am using the official 1.4 bios flawlez, since im not into unlocking cores i have'nt been playing around with any of the "betas". As i type this I am trying out 3552 on cpu with 2436 for nb/cpu and memory at 1352 (6-6-5-23-28 1t). I had basically this same setup minus the ddr3 (was running ddr2 1066 at 1080) with same cpu but different motherboard so it would stand to reason that If i played other games for months and it is cpu overclock that is the limiting factor, than setting it back to a known and time tested overclock would suffice. I also ran memtest like 8 passes just to check out if increasing the memory speed 19mhz introduced any instability into the memory and no errors were found. Going to use it now and see what happens.

Hello i need some help i have had this board sinses April and it is great i took my 955 to 6.4ghz on Ln2 and 5.4ghz fully stable 3d benz..
But on daily basis i am on wicked good water and now i have got an 965 and no matter what i do i cant bench 4ghz+ i can bench vantage on air and water 4ghz with both my cpus but i cant go any higere than 4050mhz !!!

Can somebody please post pics of bios voltage settings with the cpu going 4ghz+

Okay first of all I am using the 1.5B7 bios, and before that I've used the 1.3 bios. My system is:
Phenom II 955 (0915)
2 x 1GB OCZ PC16000 @ 800mhz 7 7 7 21 T1
MSI 790FX GD70
ZOTACK GTX295
OCZ PowerXtreme 850Watt PSU

Before the MSI board I was running an ASUS Crosshair III which worked pretty well for me, but 1 phase got damaged during normal use and the board killed my 965 which is why I'm now running a 955 with the MSI motherboard. Firstly I love the fact that this board's voltages are very stable and do not fluctuate as much as it does on the Crosshair III or the M4A79 Deluxe I had.

However, I’m sitting with the following problem. I was able to bench my 955 on the Crosshair III under cheap water cooling at 3.8Ghz CPU and 2.8Ghz NB, and to be honest, I was even able to run it with the stock cooler at these speeds. The vcore I’ve used was 1.3625V and it was stable even when running Wprime 1024. I have a screenshot on one of the treads showing this. I’ll try and find it. With the GD70 I just can’t do it. The highest I could run was 3.6Ghz and 2.8Ghz NB and even this is not 100% stable. Even if I increase the CPU vcore to 1.4V it is still not stable enough for benching.

Secondly I found that my processor is at least 10C hotter in this motherboard at idle and about 5C or more under full load. I’ve reseated the water block, tried another cooler but still the same or worse.

Maybe I am missing some settings somewhere. Any idea why or what might cause the extra heat, or the inability to clock higher.

this is another bad bios for me, ever since the first 1.5 beta came out ive been getting weird lockups during post right after the cpu is being initialized. every 1.5 beta does it, using stock settings or overclocked.

Hi I am running bios 1.4 and stable at 4GHz on my 955 black. Vtemp is 51 deg. full load. Got myself a ssd and now she is real fast. Machine spec is 1333 GHz 2 x 2Gb memory, 2x 4790 running 900/ 1000, falcon 128Gb ssd , wd 1t and 2x 500 GB drives. PSU 1500 Watt, Xfi sound card, Haf 932 case.CPU cooler V10, Samsung 26T. I just cranked the multilayer and now a am running 4GHz 24/7. My NB is also on 2600GHZ, vcore set on 1.5V. Any successions on how i can run even better settings.

you know guys msi have not really changed anything that will make the board clock well since around 145beta...if you are thinking a new bios will give your cpu 200mhz higher clock you are dreaming. It looks like msi are now just cleaning up the code and sorting small bug fixes.

what we need to do now is find the sweet bios much like the 0706bta that we had for the old NF4 DFI board and just stick with it ;)

I think you right. The 'Beta' bios's that are out are just for that, fixing problems and fine tuning. As customers write to tech support for thier problems it creates a need for the Betas to run trials and fix problems. I'm guessing that MSI will release a stable 1.5 and that's it for awhile. As newer CPU's come out then there will poss. be new editions for support.

okay, just flashed mine with 1.5b7 and 1.6b1 and both bios doesn't boot my x3 720 with 2800 cpu-nb or higher, now i'm back to 1.5b1

I tested 157 and it clocked just the same as the 145 i had on before, I bet nothing has changed for a good while now...you guys just need to clear cmos thoroughly and retune the board.

1.6B is to address some power management problems under Linux mainly. 1.57 addressed 8GB clocking at 1600, as in decent CAS rates and 1T at rated voltages among other things, otherwise Tony hit the nail on the head, since 1.45 there have not been any increases in clocking. Personally, since I run 8GB, 1.57 is my favorite. :D

but i can´t get them to post on the 1:4 divider. i just get a "cmos checksum bad" error. funny thing is, i can post and boot into windows fine on the 1333 divider with 7-7-7-21 timings and the htt up at 240mhz for ddr3 1600.
so the ram is capable of running at this speed with those timings, but not at the 1:4 divider. seems to me like another bios bug.

Booting straight at 1600 C7 (1:4) is extremely difficult with the Phenom II quad cores. I could not get it stable on four different 790FX boards, stable meaning decent voltages and heavy multitasking tasks. Unless you are trying to set a SuperPi record, it really does not matter between C8 and C7 at 1600 in apps or games. In fact, I found 1333 C6 to offer a better balance of performance with 8GB installed.

I have no issue booting into win7 with my Crucials Pc10600 value at 1600mhz 7-5-5-15-1T at 1.90v and can boot at 1700mhz 7-7-7-18-1T at 1.75v and it is totally stable can run intelburntest 2.0 for over an hour

If you want to pick and choose what programs are used for stability one can claim no issues. However as Gary has wrote for the majority of users 1600 at CAS 7 is nothing more then a dream. I have also been though four different boards, processors and a box full of memory with the same results.To state otherwise shows a lack of true stability testing.

I've never had any issues with my ram @ 1600 cl7. It limits my cpu nb overclock to 2400mhz, but that's acceptable for me.

You're not serious are you? :shrug:

1600 cas 7 ought to be a breeze imho. I can do that with my set of 2x2GB OCZ platinums with just 1.67V if i play around a little with the Dram reference voltages.

As for stabilty:HCI memtest (100% at least) SuperPi 32M, Intel Burn test and Prime 95 blend.

Stable enough for me. ;)

I can even do 1600 6-6-6 32M stable but it needs a bit much voltage, still under 2V though.

it´s not that the cpu or the board isn´t capable of running 1600 cl7.
when u read my post u see that 1600 cl7 is possible when i crank up the htt to 240mhz.
it´s just that i can´t change cas latency on the 1:4 divider to anything other than "auto" when i´m on the 1:4 divider.

I have had 2 boards and 2 cpus and both had no problem with 1600mhz cl7 it runs for days with no problem even prime blend for a hole night

maddias do this to see what happens when trying your oc to 240htt set everything as you would and set the option to oc your mb in steps at bootup this will boot u at 210htt or so then when in windows it will apply then final oc if it doesnt freeze run memtest for windows to check for errors if that works you might just have to use that option. also that div might be sitting u to tight subtimings....

I have no problem running at 1600 C7 8GB when overclocking HTT on the 1:3 divider also. The problem is the 1:4 divider is not an "officially" supported feature of the CPU and is provided pretty much "as is" by the BIOS engineers to compete with other platforms (AMD unofficially supports it in the core code).

As such, they do some magic to get it to work in a proper fashion and based on the cpu register and clk timing setups at POST, the 1:4 divider works a little differently than the other dividers. That said, I understand there will be further refinement in the next agesa code update from AMD. Anyway, the only difference between 1600 C8 and C7 is in Sandra, Everest, and SuperPi type benches, in actual apps/games, there is no difference.

Is there not some one that have this board and a 955 or a 965 that run +4ghz on air or water there kan post screen shots og voltage settings in bios??

I will post it for u later this week! If u run 200x20 u should use around 1,55-1,58Vcore, it differs between cpu´s. Keep the NB & HT stock at 2000MHz and put the CPU/NB voltage to 1,35-1,38V, hope u´ll manage to reach 4GHz ;)

i can run vantage at 4.0ghz at 1.410v and 3.9ghz at 1.3825 but 4050 no go even at 1.650v notthing helps i must be doing something wrong because under cold it can do 6ghz+ easy

NB/SB/HT volt?

I have a question, could anyone mod the bios to read out subzero temperatures??

To that I have to reply, can anyone mod the bios to get the right temps to start with???? Or is that an AMD issue.

I get the proper temps with my unlocked 550BE... BIOS 1.5b6

All cores??????

I think he's talking about the onboard sensor. With the early unlocking bioses it showed ~10C higher than expected.

No as I said this is with BIOS version 1.5b6 and I do believe the temps I have is correct cause my cooler "feels" the same as it did with my Phenom II x4 920.

NB voltage tryed from 1.100-1.395v HTT and SB voltage from 1.1-1.3v

AGESA is related to CPU 'Barcolena'. I don't see any of those CPU's unless there are Opterons? But anyhow it seems to be a Bios to make sure you need?

I tryed the 1.6B bios, didn´t like at all! Which is the best in uré mind??

Personaly I am using the MSI just released 1.5. The 1.6beta is for 'Barcolina' CPU's. We have Henka, Denab CPU's, Barcolena...?, Opterions?, CPU's upcomming for release? Don't know. The first few Beta releases have the benefit of removing issues found, after that it is 'Special' needs. Heck, 1.0 works, 1.5 seem better. To change Bios because it's available would be considered foolish to do with a working Bios, with no special needs or issues. So why put a system at risk for unneeded Bios updates. We might not see any more new Bios's from MSI until a need arises from needs, ie: new released CPU's or other option changes. Which is the best one? The sanctioned released Bios editions from MSI themselves. That's the stable ones, and your needs are...?

1.5 is my best oc bios this far :)

One question, is it possible to make all the pci-e ports running at x16, I have 3xHD4890 cards and it only runs at x8 :(

The difference between cas7 and cas6 1600 is so small it is not worth adding the extra juice, infact cas8 to cas7 is so small again its just not worth it. 4GHZ CPU needs 2600NB to shine, I actually like 3800MHZ CPU and 2800NB with 1600 7-6-6-24 1T as its so easy with both the 955 I have here and a 64Bit OS....why struggle for higher when all you gain is a better everest bench and games don't see much of an increase.

lets be honest here, CPU's need to jump 400MHZ for you to notice, NB is 200MHZ and ram 400MHZ...when Phenom hits 4400MHZ or so then 2000 ram will shine BUT remember the NB will have to be at 3000+ for it to take advantage of the extra ram speed.

Looks like it clocks better. Used it for ocing for about half an hour and overall seems more stable on oc.

it works great, just like 1.5b4. no improvement in oc for me though :(

i´ve been wating for this over a week ;)
finally i can run my g.skill ripjaws on the 1:4 divider at cl7. i was about to return them because of the incompatibility.
now it´s time to play with those low voltage sticks...

hmmmm, I still cant get esata to work with my drive on 1.6b3 - sometimes it boots now, but the drive doesnt show - other times it says HD error on disk 5 and forces me into BIOS - have tried IDE mode and AHCI neither work right.

so i decided to try the 1.6b3, and again the same things are happening from anything past 1.51

random lockups even when running stock speeds, and restarting 9 times out of 10 results in nothing but a black screen, or the POST hanging after initializing the cpu

im sticking with 1.51 for good

Has anybody had any problems with the 1.5v flash I know it has been some issues with the 1.6v flash? Thanks for the help..

anyone figured what's the CPU Core Control thingum? does it automatically turn off cores that are not in use? -if it is, it's a great way to save on power-

Core control let's u shut down individual cores on your processor. I can get it to shut down cores but that just makes everything slower. So tried my chip with only one core for pi but it won't work.

It works on mine 965BE i can disable all of them beside core 0

Sync Flood: When All Else Fails

In some cases, one or more links in HyperTransport may get into a state where ordinary packets cannot be sent reliably. For example, a device may detect a series of CRC errors which indicates to it that either the external link is broken or, more likely, it may not be synchronized with its neighbor with respect to CRC stuffing in the CAD stream. If this is the case, it can't send new packets; it also can't convey the fault using fatal/non-fatal interrupts because they travel in the same channels as other packets.

Sync flood reports errors that cannot be signalled by other methods. It is roughly analogous to the PCI SERR# (system error) event and has a serious impact on the entire chain. Sync flood packets put the chain into an inactive state pending a warm reset to restore normal packet protocol. The behavior of the device initiating the sync flood is slightly different from the other devices which propagate it. The basic rules are described below.
Device Initiating The Sync Flood

1. The device initiating sync flood must have the SERR# Enable bit in the configuration header Command register set = 1 before it initiates a sync flood for any reason.

2. If the device intends to initiate sync flood for CRC errors, buffer overflow errors, or protocol errors, it must first check the corresponding "flood enable" bits in the Error Handling and Link Control registers.

3. The device which initiates a sync flood sets the Signaled System Error bit in the configuration header Status register, LinkFail bit in its Link Control Register, and the Chain Fail bit in the Error Handling CSR. Note: if all conditions for a sync flood have been met, Link Fail is always set — even if the SERR# enable bit in the configuration header Command register is clear (preventing the sync flood packets from actually being sent.)

Devices Detecting Sync Flood

1. Devices detecting sync flood at a receiver input cease all normal packet transmission on the affected chain.

2. Each device sets the Chain Fail bit in its Error Handling CSR.

3. Each device drives sync packets onto all transmitter interfaces, including back to the device which initiated the flood. This assures that sync is seen on all links on the chain.

Sync Flooding And HyperTransport Bridges

1. Bridges set the Detected System Error bit in the Secondary Status register if they see a sync flood on the secondary bus.

2. Bridges may forward a secondary bus sync flood upstream to the primary bus if the SERR# Enable bit in its PCI Command register is set. This is similiar to the behavior of PCI-PCI bridges when SERR# is detected on a secondary bus. The bridge may optionally convert the secondary bus sync flood to a fatal or non-fatal interrupt on the primary bus.

3. Bridges always propagate primary bus sync floods downstream onto their secondary bus(ses).

Miscellaneous Notes

Flooding Continues Until Reset

Once a device commences the sync flood operation, it must continue until a reset is detected on the affected bus. This assures that the sync flood propagates throughout the chain.

Hey chew, in the bios shots that you posted some time bacck, I am not able to understand why both CPU and CPU VDDV are used. I thought CPU V would be used only for minor adjustments, though I am not able to do that on mine as it starts somewhere around 1.1 or so. So why have you used both.

Secondly I am not able to go above 2400 on the NB. If I change the multi and go to 2600, it will just freeze on windows boot up. Could this be an IMC issue.

Am currently on 3.5 with 1.4Vcore. 2.4NB, 1.2V and ram at 1333 6/6/6.

i think he used the cpu voltage to offset the cpu vdd and control the amount of vdroop when on load, not sure though but that is how i configured mine, cpu vdd = cpu v +0.025.

with regards to nb, i think there's a problem with the newer bios clocking them higher with the 720BE because i am also experiencing the same problem. i can't clock the nb higher than 2600mhz from 1.5b7 but with 1.5b1 i can clock it up to 3000mhz

Ok, I guess that would be it then, but from what I understood, CPU v would be an addition of those two values, but I may be wrong here.

Anyway looks like its time to go back to some older bios and recheck my findings.

Need some help here. I finally got my new Ripsaw 2000mhz DDR3 and got put put my GD-70 into my tower. I was previously using a DFI LP DK M2RSH and running my AII 240 @ 3802mhz w/1.425v 24/7 and it ran great. But the stability with this board seems pretty bad, I updated to the newest beta bios 1.7b3 and am currently running the same speeds I was before, but no stability at 1.425v, I jammed 1.55v down its throat in anger and it seems a bit better, but still not happy. So I'm wondering what bios you guys suggest as the best OCing bios here, and unlocker as I also have a 720BE.
