I've been sleeving the round pin molex adapters from ages ago but the atx and pci express pins are an entirely different breed. These guys make it look easy but I guess it depends on the manufacturer. I think it's easier to cut the pins off and recrimp or make up news cable myself :rofl:

I believe there are several examples in this thread of people doing what you suggest, Zorlac (but it's too many posts to go through!). I experimented with using my own wire and making all new cables, but had better luck with just cutting the existing ones to length, re-crimping, then sleeving:

One more thing I noticed, I can't recall which PSU I was looking at, but the wire gauge don't seem to be the same for all wires, some are 18 AWG, some 20 AWG, some 22 AWG even
I made one of my HX620s fully modular. You can cut the hard wired cables and attach pins a few inches from the PSU case and put a new 24 pin there. Then use a 24 pin extension and make a custom length cable to suit your needs....
Don't limit yourself to "fully modular" out of the box when you can get whatever PSU you want and make it that way....
The problem with that is, the cables breaking out of the small holes are a mess!Quote:

Red sleeving requires no tape, at least not on single wires. I sleeved my pump with it and the wires are a bit thick all clumped together, so it almost shows through, but only if you're really close.

Put the sleeve onto the cable, stretch it there and mark where you need to cut (use a pen or similar that is visible on the sleeve). Then you pull off the sleeve so that the mark is hanging in the air (give it 5cm to where the cable starts so that you don't cut an expanded sleeve), cut, melt the end and put it back onto the cable.Quote:

So I got my Seasonic X750 in the mail today and opened it up to begin planning my first PSU recable.
First thing I noticed is that some of the molex connectors are missing pins. For instance, the 24 pin connector that goes to the motherboard is missing pin 5. Whats up with that???? I started looking at pics in this thread of 24 pin connectors and it looks like some are the same and some are not. Is this like some sort of new standard???
that's probably the -5V which hasn't been part of the standard for quite some time

This looks like it might be more difficult than I thought. On the same 24pin molex, I noticed that one of the pins has two cables (a normal sized and a really small cable). Anyone noticed this before?
On top of that, the X750 divides the PSU side of the 24pin connector into two cables. One is a 16pin and the other is a 10pin. VERY strange. Why is there 2 extra pins on the PSU side and only 23 pins out of 24 pins being used on the motherboard side???
EDIT: Okay, I confirmed on Wiki that I am actually talking about pin 20 and it is indeed -5V which is obsolete. Sorry for my confusion (should have looked there first). I am still confused about the 26pins used on the PSU side though.
That's fairly normal - I wouldn't worry about it.

Well I ordered my braiding and heatshrink from ChilledPC which came this morning, but the colour is nothing like I was expecting. The heatshrink is a lot lighter than the pics, and the braiding is very dark, so the two together look dreadful.
So I've finally found the MDPC site and ordered some Aqua stuff, if only I'd found that site before ordering on Monday. I found the MDPC case gallery site, but couldn't for the life of me find the shop.
This is the last part before I can start my build anyway, so big thanks for this amazing thread!

diameter: Just a fraction (0.02mm - 0.03mm) bigger than the outer diameter of molex-pin-specification for the 4-pin (male/female). Normal tubes that you buy in model-stores or architecture places don't work perfectly, as they are too big and the hook can get f***ed during pull-out.

By the way, these Seasonic cables were not easy at all... Mainly the very weird 23 pin (motherboard side) to 26 pin (PSU side) cable was a beotch! I had never heard of such a cable until getting this new badass PSU.
Oh, and yes that is a Monster AC cable sitting there (gasp!)...I got it for half of MSRP so dont worry.

BUT
I've not spent 2 hours and have already wasted a load of heatshrink and cannot do it. I'm giving up!
After an hour trying I can get the pins out finally, but they will not stay back in the plug. The two fins which hold the pin back in the plug always go back flat after I try and push them back in though the plug so the wire will just pull out of the plug again.
I can see no way of doing this at all.
Get hold of an old crappy PSU and practice getting the pins out, take somethng like a craft knife and gently pull the little flaps back out, then they will hold when you put the pin back in.

Which pin-remover are you using btw? Sounds like you are using "alternative methods" like needles or small screwdrivers. There it happens that the "hooks" are permanently bent inwards. They lose flexibility as you have noticed. With a good pin-remover this won't happen. The flexibility is kept up 100% then.
Don't give up because of wrong tools. Get a good tool and enjoy the excitement of sleeve-addiction. Don't give up :)
@mcp: :) How about changing the red-GPU color to a matching color?

Good job I'm using extension cables I suppose and not knackering my new psu.
A tiny screwdriver is too thick and damages the pins / flaps. If you are not going for a pin-remover, you will always have the problem of flexibility-loss on the flaps, becasue the one-side-after-the-other-flap-bend-method permanently bends the flaps - otherwise an extraction wouldn't be possible with this technique.

Okay, I'm in the progress of sleeving (mpc-x ofcourse) but have a little problem.
It started with one of the 24 cables in the main ATX would not stick anymore.
When I removed it (to get the large heatshrink on for the first part, sleeving ~60% individually and putting a large sleeve on the rest) it just would'nt stick.
Then after many tryes the things that are supposed to hold it on place just fell of, wich makes it useless becaus now it definetly won't stay put.
So, what do I do?
Try to find a replacement?
Edit: Okay, this is starting to happen to every other cable now.
It seems they can only be taken in and out for a couple of times then they break.
And this meens I cant take them out again, so I can't even get the big heatshrink for the transition of the individuals and big sleeve. :confused:
Is it just me that have this problem or anyone else here??

Sleeving too please that's 1.25" (expandable)
To get colors matching to your primochill you need real life tests. Order blue heatshrinks from every source on this planet and you might find one. At 99% of the shops you get fooled with photography when it comes to color accuracy.
Can heatshrink be stretched? Has anyone sleeved the whole 24 pin cable with one gigantic sleeve?
