No bug, he just disabled 2 cores so he could clock it higher. CPU-Z reads all for cores fine.
Here's my L726A Q6600 G0 with all 4 cores active at 4Ghz ;)

thats a very nice result for 680i. is the NB on fire?:D
lol...no fire here :) board gets to about 65c at that FSB.
This board loves quads though, it was able to push my QX6700 B3 to 450Mhz FSB too :)
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=171627
And ironically, the QX6850 is the lowest performer on the FSB with it, as it only gets to about 425Mhz FSB on my board. Though I never saved the CPU-Z because it wasn't as impressive as my other results.

It's been my experience that when the 965-S is close to total failure with a quadcore as for as stability is concerned the board only uses two cores. Push it just a touch further and it will drop to one core. So yeah it's kinda a bug but you can be pretty sure if all four cores were enabled the board wouldn't be booting.
RLM. Impressive result you got there. So I had to give the beta drivers a go as well. Core temp log shows highest temp was 67 deg under the 3DMark06 Cpu tests. These are great chips and although not stable by any means it sure is fun to rip off a few benches at these speeds on air. Ya still kicked my A$$ by 101 points.:p: :D

The DFI P35 has the option to disable two cores of a quad. The 965-S doesn't have the option. Can only do it if pushed to the edge of being bootable.
my OC @ 3.6ghz on DFI Infinity P965s detected all 4 cores perfectly. only the suicide shot 4ghz has that problem :(
i cant run 3dmark on that clockspeed because my temps are scary :(

DJSUB - and moreover your PCI-E link width is just x1, so your results would be extremely low
Exactly. You have demonstrated what I'm trying to say. The cores are detected properly up to the point of almost complete instability. Which isn't an issue with your post as you stated all along that it was a suicide shot. Others may not be so forthcoming when posting screenshots of extreme clocks with this board. I'm not sure if the disabling of the cores is a BIOS or PWM issue.

it is hard to tell but do the G0 stepping generally hit 3600 at low vcore? or is it very hit or miss
Seems like every single one that njkid32 gets does 400x9 @ 1.408 V (CPU-Z) :P
Mine does 450x8 at ~1,45v in bios. 500x7 at 1.5v and 400x9 only takes 1.4375v
I would assume the amount of voltage needed to run a clock from what I have seen has to do with the FSB speed as well. Because they are all 3.5-3.6ghz clocks. Just takes a variety of voltages, generally with my G0 what it boots at for bios voltage up to 3.8ghz takes about .25-.5 more voltage for stable.
If X38 doesnt turn out to be a quadmontser, then I will most likely upgrade from deluxe to premium and see how well it does then.
Hey Neal hows it going.;) Yes for me it's very hard to tell because of the different mobo's and settings used. I bought my first G0 (L723A891) with a Core Temp vid of 1.3000v and it took 1.6000 vcore to get it stable @3.6 Ghz. Exchanged that chip in short order and picked up a L726A850 with a Core Temp VID of 1.2650 and it's stable @ 3.6 Ghz with Bios set to 1.4150 (bios) and 1.3840 under prime large FFT load. Up vcore one notch for small FFT, 1.4250 (bios). 1.4080 (load). Voltage damper enabled. With the good chips this seems about average. There seems to be more good chips than not so good atm. One thing that is becoming apparent to me is the higher the Core Temp VID the more trouble people have getting them stable at higher clocks. The best chips I have seen is with a VID between 1.2500 and 1.2875 but that's not written in stone either. This thread should give you an idea of how much it varies.:)
my 400x9 takes 1.38vcore, 411x9 1.440vcore (actual numbers). 4 core small ffts of course.
Have not maxed mine due to old board....but saying that 3.5ghz 1.45v in bios-air- on an old DS4 P965 r.1.0...can't grumble.:)
http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/1...lelargewr2.jpg
Nice one man. I'm sure with some tinkering you can top 15,000 :D . Just a thought, can you back down on memory clock and up the gpu core a bit?Quote:

well, i can tell you that my setup is sitting out on the bench...once i put it inside the case, i will have a comparison difference...i will post back with the results.

25C ambient temp, I primed before couple hours, now I just did 10 min. to make a screenshot.
Somehow disappointing, pwm flaming hot. This chip is capable of doing 3.4Ghz @ 1.29v, 60C load after vdroop stable for hours. Up to this point I have remounted TRUE 3 times using 1.5' galvanized washer and AS5, I know for a fact that those were all perfect mounts because I still get same exact temps. Before I remounted Tuniq 6 times and got different results each time. I don't know why this cpu is so hot, pulling to many amps perhaps, good thing is that I got transpiper on LP, without it I was hitting 85C on pwn. I'm looking forward buying penryn when it's released, I'm sick and tired right now with this cpu.
lol ur right man, i am in huntington beach, ca, it never hits 90's here, the hottest days stay in the upper 80's but hey the last two days almost hit 100, so yea global farming. lol.
Need_for_mhz- ur temps are probably normal, with my water setup at 3.6 i hit 69c but thats the hottest time of the day, the coldest i have seen at 3.6 is 63c, but i am running 3.5 as my 24/7 setup and i am quite happy the temps always stay under 65c. i think its very helpful to know if people are reporting temps from an open setup or in-case setup, cuz the temps could be 5-10c different.
no not really, as some over at OCAU has found out something pretty important:
http://forums.overclockers.com.au/sh...d.php?t=603324
So, for a 24/7 "safe" overclock with a:
- Core2 quad core CPUs have a higher throttle temperature and so should only be run no closer than 25C from the throttle point.
this was quoted in that thread (link)

Keep ya guys updated...
Mine is also. L726A849 from Tankguys. Right now I am at 4 hours small ffts, 3.6 ghz with 1.376 actual volts. Temps are running 58c for 2 cores and 56c for the other two on air. I'll post a screen after I hit 8 hours.
My chip isnt doing too well compared to most *sigh* . Needs 1.36v actual to run 3.3Ghz primed. To get 3.4Ghz primed i need 1.42v or so. Most ppl can get 3.6Ghz or more with this :s. I almost prefer my core duo. The only good thing about the chip so far is its quad and runs cooler. Will look to buy another and see how we go. Luck always sucks when buying hardware. Either need to buy a few to get a decent one or pay extra to buy a decent one from someone. Joke!! :*(
One question, what is VID and the lower the VID the better or what?
VID is the nominal voltage for the chip at stock speeds. Meaning it can and should run perfectly stable @ stock with whatever VID it has.
The second part of your question has been debated a bit. The rule of thumb used to be the lower the VID the better. This makes sense as if the chip runs stock @ 2.4ghz and has a low VID then it should handle higher clocks at lower voltage then a chip that needs a higher VID to run 2.4ghz. There does seem to be a 'con' associated with that as well. The lower VID chips tend to run a bit hotter when you overclock em.
You should know that a low VID or high VID does not necessarily mean you have a crappy or great chip either way. How well the chip will do truly is the luck of the draw.
About the comment of 'A' batches being the good ones. If you look back in this thread you will see a few 'B' batches that are doing extremely well. All you can do is try and maximize your chances of getting a good one by searching out the same batch that joe blow has with his 4+ghz chip.
Currently I am running:
Q6600 G0 (1.6V bios, 1.47V real idle)
Asus P5B
Corsair XMS2 CL5
Ultra 500w PSU
Really bad air cooling

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/5164/q660036kj2.jpg
Like i said. Don't put too much stock on VID. Start cranking the FSB and lets see what it can do. ;)
That being said, I can hit 490x8 (not completely stable yet - I know it's a monster clocker!)....Does that mean that, when coupled with a P5K Deluxe (which I have read the P35 has no real automatic fsb strap change at certain set frequencies because of the way the chipset calculates 'strap' and what factors dictate it - wish I could provide the source) is better than running 436x9 due to strictly higher FSB's being pumped through the system?
This is assuming that the above is true...
The article I read showed a very linear gain in chipset and memory performance when switching multi's and ramping up fsb, which led them do believe that strap changing was not so much of a performance decider like in the P5w DH's (975x) and evga 680i's.....
can anyone shed light on that?
Thanks!
jeeka.
