Methinks this is a driver problem... or maybe CrazyNutz can help with that?

Never goes above 100%-105% (same before and after the bios update)

Seems limited in some way any ideas on how to get it to draw more power? I got new pc coming next week so hoping better motherboard may help maybe?

Basically my card is exactly the same with 100% power target as 150% power target.

I'm aware of this with some cards, I'm looking into this. I will have a new version of KGB soon that may help.

Just downloaded EVGA Precision X but seem like if I overclock the card the game get crash easily not sure why, and the other problem is when I restart the computer everything back to default, I tried to set up the profile, but it doesn't seem working, do I have to reset the setting every time when restart? I am sure I am missing some step.

When you overclock and it's unstable, the graphics core will feed back errors which either crash the game or the gpu drivers. Try reducing the clocks to make it more stable and try downloading msi afterburner, i find that easier to use :)

To both of you...

Temps man. The boost is just as much tied to the temperature as it is the power target. At 70C you'll see the voltage drop, which will drop the clocks as well. Doesn't matter what the power target is in said situation. If you can keep it below that temp, you can get higher clocks. That's the magic number to keep below. If you're clocked to high you'll crash at that point, because while the voltage drops quite a bit, the clock speed only drops by like 10-15 mhz. If you're clocked to your limit at that point, you're going to be over your limit when the voltage drop kicks in.

Thanks for advise but I have been keeping my temps below 50C doesn't make a difference.

My msi PE 660ti is somehow restricted to 100% power target and will never take any more even on new bios.

I hope it is ok to post big picture :)

Here is my msi afterburner stats after running 3d mark 11.
As you can see in the first test when the card reaches 100% power limit it starts to drop off the boost and lower the voltage.

I find it funny Crazy, the bios you hooked me up with back in september turned out not to have the voltage kicked up. I finally went ahead and redid it, up to 1284 on the core now. I have a feeling I can go higher with a bit more work (I set it to 1175 instead of 1187 for a trial run). I think 1300mhz isn't outside the realm of possibility for my 660.

What do you have the voltage set to in the bios, and what are you using to test? Start up Kombuster, it should max out the power target without too much effort. If it doesn't, then reboot. If you for any reason end up with a driver crash, reboot or you'll be stuck at the 100% power target.

Otherwise, give a full heaven run a try and see what happens.

I think your missing my point :) my 660ti is always stuck at 100% power target!!!

If you know why this might be happening please let me know I have tried new bios new voltage new drivers etc......

Here is another run on 3dmark11 anytime it gets to 100% power usage then it starts to throttle.

There are two power limits:
1). GPU by its self power limit
2). Total Board power limit, this includes GPU, Memory, Fan, and any other components that are on the board.

What I'm unsure about is which one does the software monitors report? Is it total power, or is just it GPU Power?

Right now KGB just modifies the GPU power limit. So the next version of KGB will also mod the total board power limit. This is when I'll need to make changes and have you test. It may take several iterations
before I get it correct, so you'll have to be patient if you wan to help. Thanks

I have just been and tested and I'm 99% sure that msi afterburner is monitoring total board power limit.

I tested using Kombuster at low resolution which uses around 90% of tdp. Turning the fans up to 100% instantly put the total tdp up by 4%.

I was wondering if you wanted me to upload my bios so you could check and see what the max board tdp is set to?
Because if it's already set to above 100% then I'm assuming a bios update wouldn't make a difference.

Also I'm pretty good at searching through hex editor so if you told me where to look I could check it my self and report back.

I get that part, that's why I'm going over every possibility that could be causing it to happen. Hence my questions. The fact that you're getting 1293 mhz at ~100% tdp is astounding though, almost makes me wonder if the power percentage isn't reading properly?

Mine has always had a really good boost :)

Straight out the box it was up to a solid 1205mhz and then with plus +100 core in msi after burner it was up to 1305mhz(on original bios).

Like Crazy said though mine is probably limited by the total board power limit which on my card doesn't want to go above 100% tdp.

I give you an example when comparing mine to my friends 3dmark11 graphics score.
original bios
my own msi 660ti at 1305mhz 100% tdp: 9852
friends asus 660ti at 1240mhz 115% tdp: 9830
I always had much higher clock but mine was being throttled by the board power limit which made us about even so this in it self is evidence that mine is infact being throttled by power limit.

new bios
my own msi 660ti at 1300 100% tdp: 9840
friends asus 660ti at 1260 125% tdp 10200

The new bios we tried I actually lost a little performance in benchmarks because mine was getting throttled sooner. where as my friends asus 660ti which is still at lower clocks than mine but now takes 125% tdp is raping my score.

I agree that mine running at a solid 1300mhz is great and if indeed Crazy can work his magic and get the total board power limit up a bit higher then my card will be a monster.

I compared my bios to the someone else and they were exactly the same :)
Could it be possible that my motherboard (am3) is holding back power?
I will be getting a msi gd65 z77 for christmas so I was thinking that might help me a bit.

I was building a low power small form factor system and a really good sale on a 660 ti got me. Now I'm way over my power target. I want to leave the system on all the time but still be able to game. I guess another solution would be to somehow shutdown the graphics card when idle or switch over to the integrated i5 graphics. I guess I should be pretty happy about a i5 system with 8gb 2ghtz ram, 256gb SSD & 2TB hard drive only pulling 55watts at idle but my target was around 30w.

When your not gaming they use very little voltage and power.

The only way you might get it down more is turning fans slower and ticking all the energy saving options in nvidia control panel.

Yes you should be able to undervolt.

Good info. This aligns with my findings too. post your bios so I can take a look.

As far as telling you where to look, thats a little tough because there are no set in stone offset locations, i.e. they vary from bios to bios. I had to write KGB to search for sets of patterns to find the offsets.
However you can look at the output off KGB and see the offsets it found, the board power is behind the power target in the bios.

I did try and have a look through with hex editor but couldn't understand the language/encrpytion.

If there is anything else I can do to help let me know. I can send you my friends asus 660ti bios as well if you need them.

I get my new rig in 2 days time then I will know for sure that it isn't driver/hardware issues stopping me from reaching the higher power target.

Just to let you know I got my new i5 rig and my msi 660ti is still throttling badly at 100% power.

I'm looking forward to trying new bios after Christmas :)

By the way the new NVidia driver crashes the EVGA precision, does any has the same issue?

Msi afterburner is supposed to work with all cards :)

If not asus tweek is also pretty good.

Im having trouble using KGB tool in cmd. every time I try to kgb 1.rom unlock im getting 'kgb' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

can anyone help or have a suitable bios I can use with NVflash please :)
