Anybody noticed these cpl chips running flaming hot? They burnt my finger when I was priming.

My problem is that I can't really prime anything over 3.5Ghz with Q6600 G0, although the G0 is stable at 3400Mhz @ 1.29v
Mine only run around 60oC measured with an infrared/laser thermometer whilst priming 3.7GHz with 1.45v to the CPU.Quote:

It was just a guess, educated guess :( Nevermind, those probably have no effect on stability, I have to work on priming. The cpu either primes or blue screens, I never seen prime giving any errors (such as rounding errors).
As I am starting to wind things up here now I have put a panflow 120 blowing on my PWM & NB area & those digital PWM chips only run 45-50oC loaded so I am sure they have plenty headroom left.Quote:

Why don't you try maxing the VTT out & see what happens, also keep your ram way out of the equation until you find a sweet spot for the CPU as the RAM timings like RLM has already mentioned can have almost the exact same crash symptoms as the CPU.

DFI usually had a random C1 error, and the ABIT has easier error recovery
bout the vdroop as we knew, ABIT only use 4 analog phases, compared to 8 digital pwm on DFI it's very2 normal if ABIT has a bigger vdroop
but from IMHO eventhough its vdroop is bigger than DFI LP P35, IP35PRO has very-very easy for OC
DFI should work on a BIOS fix which make POST easier
coz we knew from the layout, DFI should done a lot better than ABIT

Sorry for the late reply...I can't seem to get my Q6600 G0 chip past 3.2ghz stable on the Abit board...even after jacking up CPU VTT...I had no issues getting my other G0 chip up there though (E6850)...that hit 3.7ghz very stable...I still have to spend more time with the quad though...I just wanted to get the DFI board because I haven't had one of their enthusiast boards since the SLI-DR board...that and I'm getting phase very soon :)Quote:

The Abit offers great mega rock solid performance straight out of the box with a super simple setup for a very decent price it definitely gets my :up:
The DFI is eye wateringly expensive & takes a lot of tweaking & tinkering with just to match the Abits performance however the DFI can run anything you throw at it, it will bench just about anything you can dream up to try on it & you can tell where the money has been spent (PWM & Heatpipe) as it runs amazingly cool even ringing the nuts out of a quad & the voltages are super stable.
Here are a few of my major pros & cons.
Abit Pro's: Excellent board layout, Great performance, Easy setup, Good Value, uGuru overclocking & monitoring software is outstanding.
Cons/suggestions for improvement if I really have to say something remotely negative about this board: Beef up PWM, make heatpipe heatsinks flat so we can mount fans on them, add on/off reset buttons to board like DFI/Asus etc.
DFI Pros: Makes bootable stable fsb really easy, runs cool thanks to the great heatpipe, 10 billion setting for the enthusiast to play with, performance flexibility from 2-4ghz DDR600-1200 CL3-5 is great it will run anything, EZ clear/CMOS reloaded & the onboard on/off/reset etc etc etc basically all you would expect from DFI.
DFI Cons: Memory slot clips foul on graphics card (too close) however they are not un usable just an annoyance but one you can live with when you consider the amount of PCI-E/PCI slots the board has. Smartguardian sucks now I have been blessed with uGuru on the Abit & thats it for now remember I have only had this board for a few days.
The Abit IP35 Pro uses an analogue 4 phase PWM which runs cool with a dual core even @ 3.8GHz it only just hits 60oC passively cooled which is far better than any other board out there like the Asus, Gigabyte & MSI which I count as one of the boards strong points as this means average Joe like my self can get a blistering overclock from this board straight out of the packet on the stock heatpipe.
As much as the simple Analogue PWM is an advantage for dual core it is unfortunately the Achilles heal for quads as it really struggles to provide enough juice for a quad & although it can do it the PWM is over stressed & then runs blisteringly hot & therefore needs active cooling which can prove difficult in most peoples cases as its all part of the heatpipe system & its a half moon shape heatsink that makes it very difficult to mount a fan too provided you can even get at it with a decent big CPU heatsink installed.
If you like playing with RAM timings & experimenting lets say from say CL3 DDR700 through to CL5 DDR1200 then again the DFI is your weapon as it will run anything you can type in provided you have the nuts to give your DIMMS the voltage. The Abits timings are super basic with most of the timings the DFI has being hidden from our view in the BIOS. The Abit however does a really good job of getting the most out of your RAM with virtually zero input which again for a plug & play board has the best performance straight out of the box of any board I have to date including the DFI P35.

having fun with my q660 B3, i don't get alot of time to sit down and play with my setting s for hours on end, i've got it stable at 3.2 but beyond that it's becoming a real pain, im running swiftech watercooling, just wondering what temps you guys are getting with the quads on water???? im starting to think my block isnt seated right, 1.55 vid con wim getting upto 70 degress and that with 423x9 3.8... also using the stock bios as i did upgrade it and everything except the defaults gave me the "C1" error.

DFI rocks with the voltages!
2.1V Vcore (all maxed out) with Q6700 @ 5000Mhz!
No droop under load and that's a lot of AMPERE!!
But memory performance SUCKS badly... I've to try it on ASUS Blitz Formula... but on DFI
Ram that can run 680Mhz CL4 (DDR1160), can't run with 550 Mhz Cl4 on the DFI (try till 3.04V Vdimm and that's the max)...
FSB is ok (605Mhz with E6850), but the rebooting problems under LN2! SUCKS BADLY!
You better go with the Gigabyte P35-DQ6 ... or with the ASUS or ABIT.
DFI is ok for air and watercoolers, with ln2 also ok.. but only with problems and crappy ram performance...
Well I don't know much about LN2 but it sounds like you are having fun Entsafter remember this board is still in early BIOS days & it can only get better.
My DFI P35's memory performance @ CL5 on warranted voltages is exactly the same as the Asus & Abit I have the only real difference between the boards for me are none of the others run Quads on air @ 3.7ghz with 1.45v to the CPU on a passively cooled PWM & NB.

but we need a better bios and better RAM performance!
CL4 is nearly impossible on this board with high fsb :-(
I'm going to wait 1 week and after that I'll change the board. I won't use quadcore till 2x 16x PCI-E Board for ATI Crossfire LN2 benching...
