Yes, I am using full 8 pin power. I agree, it sounds like not enough power - but then again it runs fine with the 280 in there.

@ Vaderat - Yes, I'll add them, but here they are again real quick:
QX9650 @ stock speeds and voltages, I think stock vcore is ~1.25v.
2 GB GSkill 6400 @ 2.0 - 5-5-5-15 (Tried 2 different sets of same RAM, also tried another Gskill DDr2 800 set, different model).
All other voltages set to Auto, except I tried setting NB (along with VTT) to 1.28 or 1.3, did not help anything.
Cooler Master 850W Real Power Pro

I did install the full Catalyst Suite, but this problem emerges before I ever get into Windows, since the computer cannot post at the same stable OC settings as I use when the GTX 280 is in the computer.

I have created a RMA label and I'm planning on getting a replacement board. This is just a very unusual situation that seems too much like hardware defect. Not even stable at stock? C'mon...

If as you say other people are running the same card without any issues, and you have established it is not a power or ram related issue, I think it's time for the RMA. I can't think of a specific reason why the board wouldn't work with the card, but you have tried everything and eliminated other options, and the fact of the matter is they should just work, without issues. Hope you have better luck with the replacement.

Same thing I am thinking. :) Thank you all who offered help, I'm really appreciative. I already made the RMA request and am shipping it back Monday. Fortunately, a friend has a mobo I can use in the meantime to stay up and running. Thanks again, and I'll let you guys know the result of the replacement board installation and whether it solves my problems. I kind of suspect the PWM chip on my particular board was defective.

I think your vFSB, vNB & vPLL are a bit too high, but that's a good start. Just work on the ram now I guess.

What do you guys put for the DDR2 ChA/B Reference and Northbridge DDR Reference voltages?

The eqn is 0.5 Vtt x vdimm + Y

As at stock (1.8 - 1.9v vdimm) the resulting voltage would be ~ 0.95v, and I run 2.07v vdimm, I use -30mv for all 3 values, to correct them back to about 1v.

0.5 x 2.07v - 30mv = 1.005v

I don't know how these voltages affect overclocking/stability, so I just corrected them back to around stock, and I have had no issues so far.

Yes you're correct, each GTL Ref tunes a single core of a quad core processor.

Some boards (P5Q-Deluxe for example) link 2 cores together, so there is only 2 GTL Ref values to adjust, giving you less control.

For a 65nm you do use 0.667x and for 45nm you use 0.635x, as a starting point, but you can tweak up or down as needed for your particular cpu. However this board with bioses 0604 and later have a different format, not just a multi. As a result you need to enter the appropriate Y value, the multi stays as either 0.0635x or 0.667x. I gave an example of how to adjust the two 0.667x GTL Y values to give the same voltage as the 0.635x GTL's a few posts above - that was for a 45nm cpu. To adjust it for a 65nm CPU, you leave the 0.667x GTL's on auto as they are already correct, and adjust the 0.635x GTL's to give the same voltages the 0.667x GTL's. In the example a few posts above (Vtt = 1.14v), this means you would add 40mv to the 0.635x GTL's and that would make the resultant voltage the same as the 0.667x GTL.

I'm not sure which GTL Refs are used for a dual core (I would assume only 0 & 1) but it's common practice to adjust them all to the same level even if you have a dual.

Default VTT = 0.94V

0.5(2.13V) + Y = 0.94V
Y = 0.94V - 1.065V
Y = -12.5mV

I've had A/B set to these values for about 4 days now and I haven't run into any issues with stability (checked w/ 15 passes of Linpack & 200% of memTestPro).

I don't know if my logic is correct here so please feel free to correct it if need be.

Correct except for your conversion from volts to millivolts. It's not -12.5mv, it's -125mv

There's 1000 mv in 1 volt

0.001v = 1 mv
0.010v = 10 mv
0.100v = 100 mv

**There's something I want to add concerning this, I'm relatively sure the Reference voltage should scale up with increasing vdimm, however I'm not sure what the 'safe max' is, so that's why I dropped it back a little, but I'd like some input from anyone who knows something about it. Where's freecableguy when you need him - I may ask about it on the tech repository.

All those years spent in engineering and chemistry and I can't convert mV...Oh if my professors could see me now:D.

I ended up averaging default DIMM VTT (0.94V) w/ what it is set to now at my current vDIMM (2.11V) which is 1.06V. This leads me to -55mV (-125mV seems rather low) which I am currently testing using memTestPro. If I get 200% w/o errors and Prmie Blend passes for two hours then I will drop it some more and see where it leads me.

I'm not sure what to look for as far as stability other than running memTest and Prime Blend. I just really dislike having settings left on auto and if I can lower voltages while keeping my same clocks than I am all for it, of course.

If your ram can handle it I would run this
Strap 333 @ 1132MHz you can then set a PL of 8 for some nice bandwidth

My Mushkins at 1132MHz will damn near hit 10K read write and copy in Everest. Sadly I cant seem to get 4.0GHz 100% stable, prime will run for hours and hours with 3 cores passing everytime tho core 2 fails at 45mins with "SUMOUT ERROR" very frustrating for I have tried everything, even a ton of vcore dosent help.

Nice job. I gave up trying to get 3.9GHz stable & tried to optimize voltages and memory @ 3.8GHz. I think there's a limitation in my settings that are preventing me from hitting 3.9GHz and since I can't hit 500FSB for 4GHz, the 100MHz increase didn't seem worth all the headache. That extra .5 multiplier is key I see.

I share the same attitude for 4.0GHz
To much headache for the little gained
I can bench 4.0GHz all the way to 4.2GHz and even play a few games with no issues, but still cant get the 1 core to stop failing no matter what I try.

The best the ram will do is 1081 450 FSB.
they will do higher but requires a latency change.
then they come alive over 500 FSB but thats for another day.
On the formula board they seemed to clock higher 1200 +.
probably a difference in divider at higher FSB.
This is were the QX9XXX shines.

Absolute Max on the Q9550 Vtt is 1.45 as for the north bridge I know the Intel P45 chipset has dropped the absolutes as well but hey

what good is it in the garage. :cool:
the Q9XXX CPU's have protection devices on die the prevent damage due to high static voltages and I'm sure to exceed this by quite a margin
the only thing I don't like is the Pll voltage :shrug:
As for the Ram......... this has been an issue for me with the dominator's and the Maximus II.

I topped out @ 495FSB boot from windows. Can use setFSB or aisuite to get to 500FSB but its not stable. Few have gotten this board or any other for that matter to reach 500FSB on a 45nm quad. I finally quit this weekend and settled on 475 X 8 1.35vcore.

i heard that the voltages from the board are extremly high - also if u use the lowest voltage settings. This should happen if u use a fsb over 450 MHz.

Hey what voltages are you talking about? What is 2.25v for.
If you are running an E8400, I have hit 560 FSB, but ddr2-1066 is only good for 533. I have tried 570 and 588 but at that bus speed is not stable.
I am using a 7x multiplier for a 3920mhz core speed. My E8400 is not stable over 4000mhz. My DDR2-1200 is running at 1:1 or (560mhz) 1120.

im getting 4ghz easily with 450fsb X 9, ram set to 1199 @ 5-5-5-12. was booting at 500fsb but had to drop my ram down considerably to do so, went with 450 in the end.

I know, and have briefly explained how, to set the GTL Ref's on this board. Depending on how each core of your CPU behaves, you need to tweak them yourself accordingly, after setting the standard values, which as I said earlier, are 0.635x Vtt for 45nm CPU's.

This means you need to adjust GTL Ref 1 & 3 (0.667x) to a negative mv value (which you work out by using the equation or second, easier method I gave based on your Vtt) as you have done, and leave the GTL Ref 0 & 2 (0.635x) alone so all the GTL Ref values are as close to the same as you can get them.

From that point you need to tweak for your individual CPU, GTL's are a not a 'set this number and you're done' setting. For example your core 0 may be weak, so it may need more voltage than the others etc.

For the NB GTL Ref, I have had no reason to change it from stock yet, it may help get the FSB to 600+ levels but I haven't had time to play with it yet.

The max FSB on my board I can get into windows with is 550 (1.30v vNB) so something isn't right there, as my CPU will do 600FSB on 1.344v, I could do 600FSB at 1.26v vNB on my P5Q-Deluxe easily.

I think the M2F bios needs to be much better optimized for high FSB and also high ram speeds, I could do much better on my P5Q-Deluxe in both respects. Disappointing considering the price of the P5Q-Deluxe compared to the M2F. Also, the M2F is way too sensitive to the vFSB:vNB voltage ratio, requiring vNB to be no more than 0.113v higher than vFSB or the board will not POST on reboot - again the P5Q-Deluxe was better and allowed you to run ~1.34v vNB and 1.11v vFSB without issues. I'm sincerely hoping the next M2F BIOS revision will address these issues.

Yeah I understand that in regard to the individual CPU GTL's and have set them accordingly (spelling :rolleyes: ) and can comprehend the formular for working out the correct setting.

My question was in reference to the NB GTL , NB DDR Reference V and DDR2 ChA/B Reference V. What they do? how important/crucial are they? are there any adverse affects leaving them on auto? etc. Would be nice to get some difinitive answer regarding formular on setting these correctly and their function in so called "laymens terms"

I have never experienced this issue
I run NB volts at 1.39 and VTT at 1.33 and have had the NB volts highe than that all the way to 1.42 and it would still post and reboot.

I get the same issue with my MIIF, but in my case, the maximum difference I appear to be able to set between VTT and VNB, is roughly 0.15v in the higher ranges.

Any more than that, and when I try to restart the system from Windows, the CMOS is cleared and reset and the same occurs from a cold/warm start.

As soon as I bring the difference between the VTT and VNB selection back within the permissable range, no problems at all.

I think the boards are too sensitive to this, we should be able to set the vFSB (Vtt) and the vNB further apart without encountering the problem you described (which is exactly what I experience too), as it is limiting the boards performance. The maximum vFSB intel allows is 1.15v and my cpu can do everything I want it to at less than this voltage. I do not want to have to overvolt my cpu simply to be able to run the vNB higher.

I could run a larger vdiff on my P5Q-Deluxe, such as 1.1v vFSB and 1.34v vNB without issues, so I know that it can be done with an Asus platform with the P45 chipset, just not on the M2F. I want Asus to address this issue, along with allowing better ram overclocking above 1200 - 1300 MHz, and increasing the boards ability to run FSB 550+ stably.

Indeed, you are right and I agree with you.

In fact, when I first got my MIIF last week and had the problem, I was stumped as to why it was happening. It was only when I saw your first post on the subject last week that things became clearer and I was able to workaround the issue by keeping the VTT and VNB voltages within the current permissable range.

I was wondering if I needed to check the CMOS battery or whether I had installed the board incorrectly :ROTF:

As has been mentioned on this thread previously, it appears that if you run 1:1, the minimum PL you can use is 10.

Any idea if this is a P45 chipset limitation or could it be fixed via a future BIOS update?

Additionally, has anyone noticed that enabling Pull-Ins under the PL section doesn't appear to enhance the PL at all?

For example, with the Maximus Formula w/ Rampage Formula BIOS, if you set the PL to x and enabled all pull-ins, you would effectively set one PL level down from what you had entered.

This doesn't appear to happen with the MIIF, even when enabling pull-ins, the BIOS and even Everest doesn't show any change.

Are people achieving 600 fsb easily or with a lot of tweaking? I simply can not get 600 with my E8600 E0 or my E8400 E0 chips whatsoever, regardless of what I set in the BIOS...but I got the DFI DK P45 and I hit it the 2nd time I played with the BIOS....is there something I'm missing here with the MIIF's BIOS?

I just noticed that DFI actually put out a .pdf guide to achieve maximum overclock with their DK P45 boards....I wish Asus would do something like that!

Try raising the vcore to 1.40v bios first, I'm not convinced its your ram. at 892MHz the ram should be ok.

@ KRich - the PL10 is the lowest you can go on 1:1 divider due to chipset limitation with P45 unfortunately. No way around it.

Try raising the vcore to 1.40v bios first, I'm not convinced its your ram. at 892MHz the ram should be ok.

@ KRich - the PL10 is the lowest you can go on 1:1 divider due to chipset limitation with P45 unfortunately. No way around it.

I got the temp down to 55 C(idle) from 79 C
this is not a cheap board and I should be happy with it

I measured today some voltages on this board with an multimeter...

- in different FSB-Rate -> 333MHz, 450MHz, 500MHz
- between manual and auto voltage (BIOS)

The voltage which is set manual in the BIOS is exact the same which i measured...
But if u set the voltage on auto than the voltage is very high if u use an higher FSB.

Means.. if u use higher FSB u should set the voltage manual.

IRQ not equal usually indicates a driver crash (like display driver for example) but i'm not sure in your case. You could try either one I guess and see if that helps.

I would test your ram with Memtest or Memtest Pro
A quick run of linpack would also rule out ram if it passes

My Q9450 ran fine on my X38 board @3600mhz but I know it can do 4000mhz if u put 1.35v into it, problem was at those speeds I couldent run the ram in the speed I wanted on the X38 so I gave that up. But I am a total noob on this board and I dont know what settings I should have for my Q9450 anyone have adivices?

8x450 would yield higher bandwidth. plus running 1:1 means PL10 wich is crap.

A better setup would be

Yes, I see that with Probe as well. It will sound the alarm and report random device voltages as 0.00v or VCORE as 50.0v now and then. It has to be a glitch in the momentary sampling as it polls the sensors. It does tend to get your attention though!

Asus definitely need to revise the software and fix the bugs, the poor quality of asus software is legendary.

Asus really need to bring out a new bios too, that corrects the inability of D9 GMH/GKX ram to overclock past 1210 MHz, I have sticks that do 1333+ MHz but I can't get them over 1210 on this board no matter what. Also the low FSB should be addressed, as at the moment, the P5Q-Deluxe is better than this board in every way doing 590 FSB on 1.26 vNB (whereas the M2F maximum FSB is around 560 using 1.30 vNB) and being able to clock ram above 1350 MHz.
Asus better fix these issues with the next bios release or the M2F will become a legendary failure, as it is being outclassed by boards 30% cheaper than it (P5Q-D, DFI P45 Dark Plus etc).

haha, i never had any experiences with Quad 6600 before, especially on this MIIF board

Sassy's just wanted for little overclocking, so FSB 400 with 9 multi is enough for him/her, reducing PL or any DRAM tweaks will giving hard time for him/her i believe.. and he/she just want to reach his/her CPU around 3.2 ~ 3.3GHz, so i gave him/her info with easiest way to OC to 3.6GHz especially with our beloved MIIF :up:

i copied all of my DRAM Timings set as reference, everythings set to auto except DRAM Clock Skew, 5-5-5-15 thing, Ai Clock Twister and Performance Level, and got no probs with me :)

Ah yes, the ambient temp has been perfect today @ 70F/21C. Sunny, breezy, and pleasantly comfortable! :clap:

As ThugsRook indicated, the probe software is fairly worthless as a reliable piece of monitoring software, and unfortunately the momentary displays of rubbish are not uncommon. My actual Dram VTT is 1.00v so no worries. Probe is great for initial setups to check things like the SB/NB temps and relative voltage settings, but beyond that...

I am still on the 701 bios and probably will not move to 13xx unless some new functions show up. The 701 has been rock steady for me.

It means you're unstable most likely, there is no device conflict or issue that causes the BSOD's as far as I'm aware, so concentrate on your settings and get it stable.

Hey guys. Having a helluva time with this Mobo. I cannot get ANY oc to stick and after applying settings, board reboots and hangs and needs a hard reboot to get back into bios.

I have been trying with my Q6600 that is 4Ghz capable and proven as such with 2 other boards, and will be trying my E8400 that has done 4.7Ghz. I have 2x2 set of 8500 Dominators and a HX-1000. I can run stock with no issue till the cows come home, so needless to say I am frustrated as hell.

I have tried what worked on all my other boards as well as many toher templates with not so much as a unstable boot. Always ends up with hard lock.

Really starting to regret moving from my P35-T2R...

Make sure the maximum difference between the vFSB and vNB is no more than ~0.11v. So if you set 1.2 vFSB, set no more than 1.21v vNB otherwise it will just lock on reboot. This is a very annoying 'feature' of the M2F, and Asus need to fix it (along with a lot of other stuff I keep mentioning) to make this board what I would call decent.

Gonna give it a shot here.

Asus needs to realize that if they are gonna charge a premium for Enthusiast boards it need more than a cool heatsink and flashy box. I mean get real.

Good to hear that sorted it out mate. It drove me nuts for a couple of hours too when I first got my M2F, I just kept stuffing around with it until I worked it out. I have not had that issue on any other P45 board either, my P5Q-Deluxe would be fine using 1.11 vFSB and 1.36 vNB if I wanted to. What made me think of it was remembering that the Biostar I45 board has vFSB and vNB linked so I tried to bring them close together and it worked.

I hope the next bios revision fixes the issues this board has, I can't overclock my ram past 1210 MHz with it and I know for sure my D9 GMH/GKX kits do 1300+ (did that on my P5Q-D) but even 1220 is not possible on the M2F. Also I could get 590 FSB on my P5Q-D on 1.26 vNB but my M2F cannot go over 540 FSB on the same vNB. If I increase the vNB to 1.33v I can get 550 out of it and thats it.

i believe that memory ram will be fine on MIIF, make sure to update the latest BIOS

FYI, that memory ram isn't high-end class ram, it's mainstream class memory ram, so if you're looking for better speed read/write/copy it doesn't suit you, same class as my late memory ram "Team Xtreem Dark" series

i'm sure there will be no problem with combination of OCZ + MIIF, it's just when the memory ram isn't fully compatible with the BIOS, it will be hard to get stable when OCing (CMIIW)

anyway, how much budget would you like to spend for 2x2GB memory ram?

I would avoid that kit like the plague
there is alot better ram out ther than that.

Corsair has a line about the same price and would perform alot better.
So does GSkill, and Mushkin. OCZ is not the best choice imo

They are not specifically listed on the Max II QVL @ asustek.

That certainly does not mean they will not work. You might want to browse the OCZ support forum and see how they get along with the P45 boards. I would browse the user comments at Newegg as well and see if issues have come up. My OCZ2N1066SR2GK sticks get along very nicely with the Maximus II, but it's only a 2GB kit, and they are on the QVL.
