I'm not having any issues with SLI as well.
Will sure try this... but later on. Im really tired of dealing with so much stuff right now (from this pc only) that I want to rest for a while. Give me a day or two since opening this bulldozer is really annoying... (got to move lots of stuff)
Are you using same (or similar) hardware to mines? Have you tried the settings, drivers, BIOS and OS that Im using?
I can't match your hardware 100% ( I'm not crazy rich, neither have support from every single manufacturer ) m8.
But if you can list the drivers that you're currently using, and you're also willing to run some stuff that I'll tell you to, then I can be your "beta tester" ;)
Hehe, thats why I said "(or similar)" :D
I also mentioned this in the freeze thread, Im using BIOS 0704, GeForce 175.16WHQL, Windows XP SP2 (SP2 or SP3 gives same result). Using this together with Media player classic and VLC player with K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 3.9.5.
See if you can install that and try
"Bookmarked", will check it out this Monday/Tuesday ( gotta prepare some stuff for benching now for the weekend )
New NForce drivers are on the NVidia site:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_vista64_15.17.html
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_vista_15.17.html
Its either those nforce drivers, or these beta geforce drivers, or well, both.
But, i completed the first level of CoH:OF with SLI, usually i cant get 1/3rd of the way with SLI enabled.
Now i just played about an hour and a half of Crysis, no hassles.
Of course, now that ive said that im going to get a freeze.
But until then, im a happy chappy :D
Thats ok my friend :)
Yeah, they were released yesterday. I hate when they dont post a changelog though. Add to this that XP didnt get the update and still with the 9.64
Thats nice to hear :)
But I always could play games with no freezes in sli, try a video and see if you are finally estable, if so, then that could mean 1) I should go to Vista (nooo!) 2) wait for the XP new drivers
BTW, what geforce beta drivers are you using? 175.80?
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winxp_15.17.html
And this is my first Vista system, but i have to say, i actually like vista :D.
And i cant remember the geforce drivers, but someone posted them here or in the asus forums, theyre the 176.xx or something, i have a short memory :yepp:.
I did find slim, that my TV (inside the PC of course) is very jumpy with SLI enabled, it always has been, even when SLI wasnt so stable, but as for watching movies and crashing, i havnt had that yet (although i havnt watched anything really, just put on a movie for 5 minutes to see if it would crash).
Coupa, dont leave me alone on this man, Dont! :p:
Thanks for posting updated XP drivers, I will try these and see if I finally get my freakin ethernet ports back and If this solves anything related to the SLI issues. I kinda miss First packet and Teaming
To check your version, could you please go to NVIDIA Control Panel->Help-> system information and it should show you the driver version you have. I would really like to know this! (Even though you might be using a Vista32 only driver, this would still be usefull info)
Finally, bro, I know you are not a tester for anybody, but if you could please verify that video issues with SLI enabled are gone, I would really appreciate!. We all need divx, xvid, matroska codecs etc to watch videos/movies, so if you have any movie in your pc that uses this codecs could you just play it and minimize it and see if you freeze after ~5 minutes.
EDIT: I see it weird that I when I manually go to nvidia.com, then drivers, then nforce XP, I get 9.64 :S , how did you guys find out there were new drivers? :S
EDIT#2: Wow, when I try to download the drivers, it tells me Maintenance, The page you have requested is currently undergoing maintenance and will be available again shortly. LOL!
Version 177.26 for my Geforce drivers, and for the nforce drivers, someone posted the vista32 link in the asus forums, so i changed it to vista64, but while i was looking for the vista64 ones (before i gave up and just typed it in) i used the google site search for 15.17, and the xp drivers came up, so i just posted them here for you. When i manually searched i came up with the "old" drivers too.
Tommorow ill run a full movie for you while im doing something else, maybe when i go to work or something.
Just got of playing crysis for another 2 hours. Got to the no gravity level, and can i just say...WOW, on very high it looks absolutely amazing! Then i had to go to MEDIUM quality just to run the snow level. I mean, 2 9800GTXs and i was still getting 15 fps on very high!
I am trying to download the vista x64 drivers, but I am not able to, the page is under manteinance.. Anybody knows a different link?
Hey Tyke
So how good is that adaptec raid controller? And why didnt you just use mediashield? too crappy for you? :P
:shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked:
Try this slim
http://us.download.nvidia.com/Window...ernational.exe
It(the link) worked for me.
NVM, the driver doesn't seem to work. When i Tried installing it, it said vista 64 and i still went ahead and installed it, but it doesn't work.
Ok after some googling, it seems like they(nvidia) messed around with naming the drivers and linking to them. Actually, you need to download the vista x32 version for xp.
The link to the driver and the actual source where I found about it is here. Reading through that Forum, it seems like the only chane is the Ethernet drivers, maybe it will help Slim with his driver installation problem in xp.
I knew the onboard RAID was inferior to a dedicated controller but by this much is pretty sad.
Also can't believe how slow RAID 0+1(aka RAID 10) is. I thought RAID 10 was as fast as RAID 0 just with added redundency.
Check it out. this is with onboard Nvidia mediashield
RAID 0 Seagate 7200.10 32MB Enterprise Drives
RAID 0+1 4 Seagate 7200.1 32MB Enterprise drives.
No so good
Are you planning on getting a RAID controller? I guess is worth it in your situation...
You lucky u using vista then...
Well, not so good. I can't get it stable even @ stock settings. I left everything on Auto except vDIMM and timings with 0801 BIOS and can't pass prime. Two cores fail in the first hour itself. I hate this replacement board. I was happily running 445 FSb with my previous S2E before I bricked it. I refuse to OC without having a stable system @ stock settings. I guess I will have to go back to one of the previous BIOS(0704 maybe, 0603 was what I had with my previous board) and try.
Here are the numbers for the same two drives that I posted earlier, for the NVidia Raid. The transfer rate is about 30% slower, and the burst speed is less than a half of the Adaptec Raid setup. It is also noticeable how much more consistent the speed is on the Adaptec,: the NVidia ranges from less than 100MB/s to over 220MB/s, whereas the Adaptec is pretty much between 180MB/s and 250MB/s.
Just wanted to know.
Is anyone else getting issues with SLI + a TV card? I just want to know before i start asking about the actual tv card and SLI being the problem, seeing as theres so many problems with this motherboard, its a good thing to rule out first.
It just keeps jumping...but it works fine with one card.
Edit: Turned Aero off, and now its working ok again, even with SLI. Odd, but good, thats easier to turn off then SLI.
I never liked 0801, Im still on 0704. Give it a try
Thats a huge difference. I cant imagine the day you upgrade to SSDs.
wtf is this all about with all expansion cards sharing the same IRQ? Didnt nvidia learn this from 680i?
Hi Guys,
New to the forums. But not new to building and OCing rigs.
My SIIE is on the UPS truck and headed to me now. I'm hoping I'll be one of the guys giving help here rather than needing it.
I do intend to immediately replace the thermal interface on the chipset and mosfet heatsinks with AS Ceramique. I've only done that once before so any tips would be appreciated. In this particular board's case would I want to use a bit more than I usually use on a CPU just to ensure good contact or do the heatsinks already sit well on the NB and SB (etc.)?
slim, I've been reading your posts on various forums. . . and I'm pulling for you! Though, honestly, I'd redirect my attention fully to that inability to install ethernet drivers. If that persists even after an OS wipe, I think you're looking at a hardware fault. :(
Well, about the heatsink. I recommend you leave the motherboard on that skinny plastic thing that it comes in and then you proced. This will help you out A LOT when you remove the screws since as you know, there are heatsinks at the bottom of the board and you need to make sure the screws get in place with them, leaving the board on the plastic thing makes this heatsinks stay in place so when you put the big heatsinks back in place, all you need to do is put it on top and screw it back, no messing with the heatsinks on the backside of the board.
About the CPU, just make sure you follow the AS5 guide on artic silvers website.
And finally, yes, I dont know why this board would do this to me. Is not that I cant use the internet at all, but having to buy another ethernet adaptor just because this thing woulnt install, is really annoying. Well, I guess I didnt get the perfect board after all
Found this guide specifically for the Striker (though perhaps not the II Extreme) on the Asus forums (with some replies from Slim). That seems like a *lot* of thermal paste in those screenshots. But the results are good so I guess I shouldn't question. Though any feedback regarding the amount of paste would still be appreciated. I'll keep googling.
(I've added my sig with my current system. Though that will hopefully be changing this weekend)
Slim142 STOP BEING PATHETIC !! AND RMA YOUR BOARD !!!
I have told you three times now to do this but you just won't do it do you?
You are like those old people that are always complain over there deseases and pain, just to get attention, and never seeing the doctor.
http://www.plasticnipple.com/images/...hore_beach.jpg
There are enough users with a SIIE that run SLI like a charm, so seems like your board is faulty, learn to live with it or RMA the damn thing.
But please stop asking and thinking and trying , and DO something !
Hope I shaked you awake now :)
Humm that's troubling for sure. I would try alternating the BIOS setting for Plug & Play OS and see if having the Bios assign the IRQ vs the OS assigning it helps. This solved my networking issues of randomly waking up from sleep with network teaming enabled. I had to deleted all drivers..remove hardware from device manager, reboot with plug and play OS no before I could reinstall the networking drivers properly.
Also...I thought I saw another poster in this thread who was using a RAID controller card on the 790i in his sig...I'll have a look through the sigs and see if I can ID him, maybe he could help.
just a polite warning, lets act like friends here and be nice to one another.
Thanks for reading guys.
I used around that much (a bit less) just enough to cover the chip.
First, I really feel sorry for you because you dont seem to understand what the problem here is, the problem is not that Im trying to catch attention, the problem here are 3 words, SLI FREEZING ISSUES. Why I dont RMA my board? Because I dont want to live the same story Tekjunkie is living now? HELL NO!, my system is STABLE (Proved with pictures, go back and check) I can live with this and I have 3 years in which I can RMA the board anytime. Im 100% SURE THIS IS BIOS (SOFTWARE) RELATED AND NOT MAINBOARD PROBLEM.
I came here to solve and discuss problems. Is not my problem that you feel uncomfortable with what I post because so far it hasnt annoyed anybody. Could you please tell me in what ways does it bother you? Do you have a estable system? Then good for you, live it with and enjoy it, if you dont give a dam about others issues, thats fine, but if you are going to post something, make it worth it.
Show me SIIE users using XP (OS that receives less drivers updates now)with SLI that are not having issues. Show me "enough" users to feel motivated enough to RMA my board now AND I WILL DO IT RIGHT NOW.
Just to let you know, IM NOT THE ONLY ONE I DONT KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE SAID THIS THAT DONT HAVE SLI ESTABLE.
Here, take your time, dont rush

Prove to me that this is Slim142-Only related and explain to me how I can play games with SLI, but not watch movies and I'LL MAKE YOU MILLIONAIRE.
BTW, please stop with those silly and pathetic posts, no need for that useless stuff that are just off topic. You just won the trophy for been the most useless and ridiculous person in the thread with such attitude/behavior.
The way I see it, slim's problem, hopefully which will get resolved, might just end up helping alot of others. These forums are a huge help for a lot of people so don't complain. This is my very first puter build and without these forums I would be lost. I'd rather thank slim than slam him. Every bit of information gained is progress no matter what.
Slim I'm really hoping as much as you that we can raise our hands up in celebration when the lot of us figure out how to tame this beast, no doubt there is potential here regardless of the issues.
Cheers.
Tried with Plug & Play enabled, no change. I am getting the same flashing even with a Asus Sonar soundcard in the PCI-E x1 slot, so it seems to be a PCI-E error!!!
My thoughts exactly buddy.
Though i think the next time NV comes out of the market stable, guns blazing about how good their next chipset is, alot more people are going to think twice before laying down the cash - memories of the sheer collective number of hours spent on this board won't fade quick!
OMG!!! This board is such a PITA. I am very close to ripping my system apart and jumping up and down on the board. I tried 0704 and the system froze during priming with everything @ default speeds. I would strongly recommend against RMAing the board if you do not have compelling reason to do it.It seems like a hit or miss with what kind of SPP chip that you end up with on your board. Nvidia's "Ultra" chip binning is a joke. Anyway, my ranting apart am trying 0603 now, which worked for me with my previous board and hope and pray everything works without any data corruption.
Edit: This is after an overnight and sucessful run of memtest 2.01(about 6 hours 11 passes).
Thank you very much for the support.
This is for sure my last nvidia board and probably many of you think the same. If for any circumstance there is a strong reason to buy an NVIDIA board next time, lets just make sure we wait for at least 10 BIOS revisions.
I wish some people could understand that...
Lucky you, that was one of the first things i changed before i even discovered xtreme systems, so that wasnt my problem.
Anyway, ive been playing assassins creed now for the entire day, no lockups or freezes. Although last night i was playing CoD4 and i got the display driver stopped working problem. So i read around some forums and apparently unpacking the nvlddmkm.sys (is that it? close enough) file again from its original folder fixes that for a few people. So far no issues.
For anyone that still has the freezing issues, i suggest they still try and find and run the 177.26 drivers, cause that worked for me. Although of course, loosening RAM works for some, and not for me, disabling CPU cores works for some, not for me, etc etc etc. Might just be my lucky thing.
Thanks a lot bro, really appreciate the comment. BTW, you are very helpful too (specially with the RAID :D )
I wish XP had that version of drivers. We still dealing with 175.80 and all because the heat monsters are coming out next week and it doesnt even benefit me at all lol (after seeing those power usages on load, dam).

Any improvements/changes using the new nforce driver 15.17?
Are they final and stable? Did someone test them?
:toast::toast::toast::toast:I FINALLY SOLVED MY ETHERNET ISSUES!!!! :wiggle::wiggle::wiggle::wiggle:
1 issue left and I will be a happy nvidia user. Thanks to 15.17, they rock!, I dont know about performance, but as long as I can have those dam ethernet ports working with teaming and first packet working, Im happy.
I KNEW THIS WASNT HARDWARE ISSUE!
what are you talking about? (Sry... long time since ive been here...) WWhat did it solve?
I had this issues where the ethernet drivers wouldnt install. Even after installing XP 20 times, nForce installer would install the SMBUS and IDE/SATA drivers, but when the ethernet driver started to copy the files to the HDD, it would get stuck in the middle and then not respond. I wasnt even able to install the drivers manually cuz it wouldnt let me anyways.
However, now with this 15.17, the drivers installed like there was never a problem.
Yes I know this is weird, but what can you expect from NVIDIA? One day works, the other it dont.
slim - i tried to replicate your video issue with 9800GTX@SLI (double) by playing mkv file over the night, and it's okay. though i'm still getting weird trisli problem, need to check my bridge later.
qx9770/c1, 4x2gb @ 1600 7-6-6-15-2t, latest bios and nvidia driver for nf and gf. rest of all set to Auto.
Edit: Nevermind. Was just good ol' CD autoplay. Disabled in registry and the heartbeat has stopped. I think I'm only noticing it because I have SATA CD/DVD drive for the first time and the LED on my other system doesn't register older PATA activity.
Hi All,
I haven't seen this issue on a computer I've built in a long while. And, honestly, it's barely an issue and is more a paranoid concern on my part.
My IDE activity LED has a "heart-beat." As soon as I load into Windows, it starts to flash rhythmically. About once per second. And it never stops.
I've seen this caused by CD drive autorun and other issues long ago. But haven't seen this on any of my recent builds. Looking at my system running side-by-sid in sig. . . it has no heartbeat.
XP 64-bit. PATA ports disabled.
Can another Striker II Extreme owner here confirm that you're getting this too so I can move on to more important things? :)
Well, that's odd. Either my backplane or the BIOS has mislabeled ethernet ports. I'm on 0704 bios. I have #2 disabled according to the BIOS. But #1 on the backplane is the one that's actually disabled. I've googled, but I seem to be the only one to have ever noticed this (or thought it worth pointing out?).
Sorry for the mundane concerns. But rest assured that after my initial overnight stress tests, the overclocking will begin in earnest tomorrow. I also plan on putting in my other 8800gtx to test for Slim's SLi video-watching issue.
BTW, my board is revision 1.02g. If that matters.
Hi Slim,
I'm on XP 64-bit. But I'm not going to be able to move my other video card until I get this bizarre temp issue solved.
Q9450. At stock speed and BIOS defaults (mostly), Real Temp 2.60 is reporting my cores at 46, 44, 42, 42 at idle. Load temps get as high as 57-60. Room temperature is about 82f/27.5c
I've remounted my Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme three times now. Last time, I used the bare minimum of thermal paste. No change.
I undervolted the CPU and underclocked it drastically (something like 1.6GHz). No change.
Is there a known issue with cpu temp reporting on this board? The Bios is reporting the CPU at 28-29c!
H
slim did you try my settings? Or are already stable?
Im going to try them right now, I just have a few questions. Can somebody explain me what PLL really is, what it does and how it affects OC? I see many people increase this to 1.52 and sometimes 1.60, but I have no idea what can this be.
EDIT: I just found it on Anandtech. Seems to affect FSB only, will try toyzruz settings.
Have you guys calibrated RealTemp first? It's easy to do.
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/docs.php
Yeah, I tried to do so. But can't really do it. I set my vcore to 1.1v (minimum) and my CPU to 1200 MHz (multi of 6 with FSB of 200/800).
According to the calibration document, my cpu should idle at these settings at +6-7 above room temp (room temp is 21.9c this morning) or even less since this is a 45nm cpu. Yet I'm still idling at 42c (the same as at full speed and voltage). Since the calibration only allows a max value of +/-3, calibration isn't an option for me as I can't get anywhere near the target of 29c idle temp (21.9+7).
So, I think I'm about ready to just chalk this up to faulty sensors and/or other odness. There's someone over on [H] that is getting nearly identical readings as me with a Tuniq Tower.
The fact that the CPU returns to idle temp quickly from load temp and that the load temp is only +10-12c different from idle persuades me a bit that the cooler and as5 are applied correctly. So would you all agree that it's just time to stop worrying and ignore these temp readings?
Interestingly this review suggests Asus recommend 1.70 for the S2E:
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/04...set/page4.html
Bit of a follow-up here.
Not only do my temps not change when I undervolt and underclock. But I just plugged in Toyzruz's (thanks! btw) settings and got myself to 3.5GHz @ 1.325 vcore. Temps read *exactly* the same.
It's gotta be a reporting/sensor issue at this point, I'm thinking.
Best,
H
Looks like the GTX280 will be good. Ripped from Inquirer http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquir...80-scores-here

Please take a look:

Interesting to see, that according to this table, 790i ULTRA doesn´t support 2GB modules running at 1800Mhz and at 1800Mhz we can only use 2 slots.
So, in teory, if we want to run our memory at 1800Mhz,or more,we are LIMITED to 2GB!!!
i´m wondering if someone around here is running 4GB (2x2GB or 4x1GB) at 1800Mhz?
I've got 4GB(2X2GB) stable a 1760 using BIOS 0801. I have not tried 1800 with the 0801 BIOS yet...was planning on that tonight....all previous attempts with older BIOS's failed miserably. I know my CPU(X3350) will do 1802 stable but my OCZ RAM is only rated for 1600Mhz so I don't know if failing to run at 1800 would be because of the ram or 790i Ultra not supporting it as you say. I'll report back after I try again tonight.
Yes linked and synced. I ran SFC with 1760 on the last bios 0704 and it passed. I have not run the sfc with 0801 bios. I'll do that tonight aswell. SFC is a stupid unreliable test in my opinion. I have run it in the past..it says file are corrupt...reboot no changes at all run it again it passes. It's not truly able to tell you if you have corrupt files in my opinion. You can also run it with an OC and it fails..reboot at stock settings and it'll pass.
Here's what I have run on 0801 @1760Mhz
Memtest 2.01 twice, passed both times. Took about a half hour each time.
Ran Prime95 for an hour. passed 4 tests no errors, I stopped it after an hour.
Ran Super PI ok
Ran Everest Membench..good numbers.
Hi Magic,
I was running 4x1Gb sticks of OCZ PC3-16000C9 2000MHz at 1800 sync & linked (see earlier posts 868, 873 & 875) but backed them off to 1720 so that I could squeeze a bit more from the CPU and run tighter memory settings at CAS 7 and 1T command rate with the 0801 bios. Partly this reduction in FSB speed was also due to the NB temp reaching 70+ even after replacing the heatsink tape with arctic silver.
I have read somewhere that a 2000FSB can only be achieved with two DIMMS in A2 and B2 sockets but never managed to get a successful boot in either A1/B1 and A2/B2 configurations.
What I hate from NVIDIA is the low # of "officially" supported memory
With my old C2D E6600 and Bios 0704 the 2x2 GB Dimms OCZ 1600 EB runs with 1929 MHz

Trigger do you have de nforce drivers installed?
Yep I'm running Nvidia Raid,SLI and Nvidia network card teaming.
I have had issues with drivers(network cards waking from sleep for no reason, or loss of USB on wake from sleep, Crackling X-FI audio) but uninstalling, run driver cleaner, delete network cards, audio card from device manager and reboot with OS Plug & Play set to NO I was able to get the drivers to install and work nicely now.
