We had a little OC sessions on last weekend with my friend (mikkomaa). We did vMCH-mod on MoBo, but it didn't work as well we wanted, NB maxim volts was 1.93V @ 529MHz PiFast stable, boot 398MHz, 1066 strap.
I wait 540-550MHz but no go. :(
WE had water-block on NB, water was freezing -10-15C
Half-solid Cu container on CPU and DICE.
some screenshots
My Quad didn't post @ 7x515 but post 7x520 (some wholes ...)
No modded did 520fsb 32M stable
If there is only good 1066 strap there is no need to boot @ 398 or so ...

i must be missing something
my cpu does 480 under single stage
but my quad gt is stuck at 450
i borked my bios so i had it hotflashed at my retailer......now i can go 300mhz more than i could using the same cpu mobo ram psu vga combo
i went from a lousy 3500 barely stable to a much better 3800 and rising
but 450 is the absolut max.....451 is a no go....
voltages all maxed
lower multi.....
i must be missing something or i had terrible luck with a board....once again....:(
why not use the as5 on pwm's, i did on mine and it works fine, do i need to remove it, my temps are great, the pwm get about 55 to 58c under full load with 6600 at 4.0ghz and 1.56 vcore
just dont want to ruin it in the long run if theres something wrong with this
People warn against AS5 in those areas because it could conduct electricity if it gets in the wrong places. I am thinking about a little AS thermal adhesive for the PWM. Thing is, once it's on and sets, it's a done deal.
i am a ceramique user in PWM and the NB area...i left the SB alone except adding a 25MM fan.
Dumb question.
Does the latest beta Bios contain all the fixes in 1.1, or do I need to flash 1.1 then go to the beta?
Those are different stand-alone versions, not updates or something... like patches. :D
-------------------------------------
OK, looks like I'm done with no result. Has anyone else used the board with E4300? :(
if the DFI 965 doesn't show-up here within 2 days, the QuadGT will be my choice.
by the way, is there any moded BIOS versions for this baby?
there have been many modded bioses for the QuadGT.
edit...i was thinking of beta bioses when i said the above...there has been only one modded bios by a fellow named, "richh" over in the abit forum.
Mine should be here tomorrow. Hope I have time to set it up!
I just noticed that the vcore is going up and down alot even in idle. Atleast according to uguru. When I have set for example 1.67V Vcore and just sit and look at the screen (meaning 'idle') it can varies from 1.63 to 1.69v according to uguru.
I have the vdrop mod done so when going to load it does not change that much.
Also, latest uguru shows a cpu-temp that is nearly 20 degrees lower than bios show when rebooting. At that moment I ran a P4 631.
And last, the issue with uguru not raising FSB has now happened with a Celeron as well. Here is a screenshot from the QX6700, look at the different FSB in uguru and cpu-z and crystalcpuid:

hi i need some help whit bios seetings
i have a 2x2GB gskill D9 micron based , QuadGT and a E6600
i like to put on 8x400 wbut dont post
any sugguestion?
bios trick?
@Ace-a-Rue : I try this bios can run FSB 515 need VMCH only 1.6volt stabill
this is it what I've found in the new bios, now still on progress.
Picked up my QuadGT last saturday (my first ever C2D setup :) ).
Removed the heatsinks, cleaned things up and applied AS5 on NB and SB. Putted a tiny little bit of Arctic Ceramique on the 5 PWM's, but left the TIM on it (read somewhere that eva2000 did the same thing and got pretty decent temps from the PWM's)
It came with bios v 1.0 and I had big problems getting this board to work properly.
It wouldn't boot from my HD nor from a bootable XP cd.
I re-read this thread and decided to flash to bios 1.1.
So far, so good.
I had a recent Xp install, from which I removed the Nvidia drivers, cleaned the registry. So I decided to reboot. All went fine, necessary Intel drivers were installed.
Can't say that much about performance, still learning and figuring out the board and memory (Crucial Ballistix PC8000), games etc.. will be for later.
Did a quick test on my Xeon 3050. Seems to do 3400Mhz nicely at 1.33-1.34V, watercooled.
The PWM's got very hot, about 75-76°C under load. So I put a 60mm fan, and it keeps temps in the low 40's. Much better.
Anyone has good tips for my Ballistix sticks for running over 500Mhz?
I have them running at 425Mhz, 1:1, 4-4-4-12 with 2.00V (I know they're rated for 2.2V), but I'd like to have a stable 24/7 settings, without the risk of burning them, due to too much volts on them.
Thanks.

I haven't had a lot of time with this one. I do know my E6320 is a dog. Can't get above 3.2GHz with it. I dropped my E6600 in my QuadGT and was able to cold boot 515 x 7. I've booted up to 3.9GHz @ 1:1 and my E6600 will do that on any board with the proper voltages so I am not bothering to post it. I will be posting max ram speed + FSB. More later. I am on BIOS 1.1. This is real early-
http://img73.imageshack.us/img73/262...tartig4.th.jpg
I am testing with regular Win XP and two sticks of ram to make sure I don't gimp my OC. I'll try 4 x 1GB and Vista later.
EDIT- I gave the E6320 another chance and was able to work it up to 3465MHz-
http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/8...0maxdd9.th.jpg
It does 3150MHz without vcore increases fine. 3465MHz takes 1.53v to hold.
Tried 500x7, 1.39V under load (1.4350v selected in bios), 1.65 MCH, and ran orthos blend test for about 3 hours 20 min. with no errors.
(Check the cpu speeds read by orthos and core temp 0.95) :D
http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/2...3500aa6.th.jpg
If my memory can do ddr2 1000 500mhz @ 4-4-4-12 and my cpu is now running at 470 x 7 3.29ghz why can't I get over 480fsb? I tried cpu with 480 x 6 2.88ghz which is less than 3.29ghz, so does this mean it is my board? Even with 1.7vmch no boot over 480fsb!:(
Mine is a brick now.
It would not install Vista from an IDE DVD drive no matter how I tried. I had it set to IDE and "UDMA if possible" etc. It would not do it from Win XP Sp-2 in windows or from booting with the DVD. The window that has language options and the command to install would never pop up. Yes, I tried the latest Jmicron driver.
So I decided to upgrade the BIOS. I set everything to stock then tried to flash. It froze and crashed half way through the process. I've been building my own systems since 1994 and this is the first time one has done that. Now it is a pretty little brick with flashing blue lights.
oh boy, that happened to me like 2 months a go with the B6R bios but it was my fault for using flashmenu and i wasnt suppost to , anyway what did u use to update ur bios? and u can always get a bios chip from the abit website for 15 bucks , thats what i did , once it bricks is very hard to bring it back to life good luck
i hate to say it but this is the only board that i have ever had crash during the bios update thru windows, this board for some reason does that alot, its the only one i will never update thru windows ever again
Bunch of questions.
Does anyone have a board that makes a buzz or some odd noise with 1.45v and greater vcore? How about the Jmicron controller? Have you fellows been able to install Vista from an IDE DVD? No matter what I set it would fail. I have a feeling it wasn't changing from PIO mode regardless. Windows did indicate UDMA if possible.
Also is changing the BIOS chip difficult? I ordered one from Abit to revive my board.
@Ajfina
Yes I used flashmenu in windows because I've never had a problem before and won't do that again with this board. I hate floppy disks and wish they would die. The Jmicron contoller was acting weird so I didn't look into DVD options. I use DVD burners|players because of the superior audio capability. I suppose I could go SATA DVD and I like both the players I have now.
Im going to be building a new rig in 2 weeks, and I have been looking for my next motherboard. This looks like a real winner in my book.
Anyone have any advice for me with this board?
I don't plan on any mobo Mods.
e4300 OC'ed to 3.0-3.2ghz
G.Skill HZ OC'ed to 1066
No Raid, 1x SATA2 drive, 1x IDE DVD drive
Yeah good luck getting over 480fsb.
@blacklash had no problem with vista64 and ide dvd.
QuadGT should do that easy, as would most decent 965 mobos. The QuadGT is a very attractive mobo too. I stuck one of these on the CPU and it really looks nice.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106102
It sort of matches the NB and has a blue LED to go with all the others :p:
not at all , is very easy and simple , the bios chip is plug in inside a little socket, u just have to use a little screw driver or a hook tool
i even found u this http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-chip-removal.htm quadgt is PLCC-Socket
i did mine and it was very easy, good luck
and yes i hate floppys too
i have drflash if u need it sometime
Thank you.
This is my first time having to do it since I started tinkering with computers. Now just to wait for my replacement to arrive.
@DaFox
I just got tired of the same old same old. I already own a TR Ultra 120 and like it. The difference between a Tuniq Tower and the V1 will be small @ stock speed and up to 1.45v and|or 3.3GHz. If was planning on using 1.5v and shooting for 3.5GHz and up, yeah I'd get the Tuniq. As is I am planning on having a medium OC on 1.45v or less with my QuadGT rig. (E6320 @ 3.0-3.3GHz) I will likely be surrendering a 2C load temp advantage using the V1 instead of the Tuniq Tower under the conditions I describe.
Backlash, I also had no issues installing Vista from and IDE optical drive.
The only reason I still have an FDD is for bios flashing
hmm ive never had an issue flashing from windows ever on any board, including the quad gt.
to the people who had freezes were you at 100% stock and stable settings?
yes i was, and i have never had a bad bios flash either till the quadgt, i dont know why but in windows i have heard numerouse accounts of peoples stuff freezing up on this board
and yes i got away with it twice with the quad but third times the charm and i had to get a new bios chip, oh well atleast they sell them
I dont think we should update in windows using BETA BIOS that was my mistake , officcial bios release from abit maybe , and remenber to be stock 100% b4 updating bios
Hi,
Just ordered this mobo as i was fed up waiting for the dfi. what is the best bios currently? ok to flash using a cd or would it be better to use a floppy?
Any quirks i should expect?
can u do it using a cd image? that would be great.
Does anyone know what new features the beta 13 bios has over the 11!
it was supposed to address the LAN going missing on some mobos after running memtest.
As for flashing the BIOS with FlashMenu I've done it OK with a beta on mine.
Iirc the people that had problems were pretty much all running Vista.
& you can also flash from a USB memory stick (except on the original 1.0 BIOS) rather than a floppy.
OK first and foremost this board is awesome, plugged in and booted up in Windows no problem, LED lights are a nice touch as well :) I updated the BIOS to ID: 11 so that's what I'm working with now.
I've got 2 SATA hard drives and 1 SATA DVD-RW and I don't want to run RAID. I've got the 2 hard drives plugged into SATA 1 and SATA 2 and the DVD in SATA 3. BIOS recognizes all these fine and dandy, but I can't seem to get my system to work in AHCI mode.
I've got my First Boot Device as SATA CDROM and Second Boot Device as Hard Disk, the rest are disabled. If I leave the SATA Mode as IDE everything works fine, I can get into Windows, and I can boot from my Windows XP CD. But the second I change it to ACHI everything goes wrong. Windows XP will BSOD while loading, and it doesn't boot from my CD anymore.
So how do I get ACHI to work? When I enable ACHI during boot up it will start the SATA ACHI detecting thing, and warn that "this version only works with Hard Disks and CD-ROMS." Then in the list I can see it properly detects my 2 hard drives and DVD Drive but it won't ask me if I want to boot from the CD :(
Since I'm not running RAID, can I disable JMB363 in BIOS? I have no IDE drives either, so can I disable IDE Bus Master?
In Windows it detects a ton of new hardware. Which ones do I *HAVE* to install? I have a X-Fi sound card so I disabled the onboard audio, then I don't need the Realtek HD Audio drivers right? I've got the INF Chipset Driver installed, but Intel Matrix Storage says I do not meet requirements. I've installed the Realtek LAN driver to get the LAN to work. Anything else I'm missing?
What's Onboard FDC Controller? Do I need it?
Thanks in advance for all the help, look forward to having some fun with this board :)
EDIT: Now if I set the SATA mode to ACHI and try to install Windows XP, it thinks I have an upgrade CD and asks for a full version of Windows. I encountered this same problem on my Bad Axe 2 motherboard and the reason was I needed the chipset drivers to run ACHI, so I slipstreamed it onto a WinXP CD and that solved my problem. But with this in IDE mode is giving me the same problem. ACHI mode won't let me boot from the CD for some reason.
Some shots of what I'm getting:
http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/2002/p1010005jv6.jpg
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/7893/p1010006un6.jpg
The boot failure is expected cause I deleted the partition, but it isn't asking me if I want to boot from the CD or not even though I have the Asus DVD as first boot device.
I could well be wrong (I don't see any benefit in it for my usage so I don't bother) but I think that you ideally needed to install in AHCI mode.
& yes, if you aren't using it just disable the JMicron in the BIOS.
OK I'm an idiot. In the BIOS there was an option for SATA CDROM and ALSO for my Asus DVD-RW  I changed it to the Asus and it works now. But I get a BSOD while setup is loading drivers... :(
Well I fixed the BSOD by slipstreaming the SATA drivers for the 965 chipset onto an XP CD, but now the install thinks I have an upgrade version of XP and won't let me continue until I insert a full version. Any idea what could be causing this?
what is ACHI?
try to do the whole installation using an IDE dvd, i kinda had the same problem with a BADAXE2 so i used an IDE DVD and everything went smooth , them switch back to ur SATA DVD
hey try this and let us know:
"Guys a quick note;
The AHCI driver is part of Vista so if you have your SATA drives in IDE mode and want to switch to AHCI do the below registry edit:
1. Exit all Windows-based programs.
2. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
4. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Msahci
5. In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
6. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
7. On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.
Source:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976
Then go into your BIOS and set AHCI for your SATA drives. Upon boot Vista will install the proper driver and you'll be set."
http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:...lnk&cd=7&gl=us
I don't really want to install as IDE and then change to AHCI, I don't think it's recommended. I had the exact same problem on my Bad Axe 2, but after I combined the SATA drivers onto an XP install CD it worked fine.
Thanks for the link gunit, but I don't have XP installed anymore. I deleted the partition (I know, smart right?) so I'm working with a blank HD now.
I combined the ICH8R SATA drivers onto an XP CD but I'm still getting the same error. Dunno what to do now...
With Vcore at 1.45 which is the max I want to go for now
Vmch 1.55
Cpuvtt 1.40
Pcie 110
DDR2 2.35 (OCZ warranties up to this) and running loose timings for now till I hit my CPU sweet spot. 5-5-5-15 2T
Cooling with a slightly used amanda titan, HR-05 SLI on NB, and Swiftech BGA sinks on mosfets. (more on that below)
So far with a new QuadGT and a 6700 with OCZ 8500 DDR2 2x1GB I have booted into Vista at 510x7 but not orthos stable. I haven't tried over 510 as I am looking for stability. I did 500x6 orthos stable for 15 hours at 1.45 Vcore but thats too slow CPU speed for me. 500x7 was also not orthos blend stable. I may get it stable in the 480s at 7 multi but I will have to test. It looks like 8 multi and mid 450s FSB is where I will wind up.
I have posted at 510x8 on air which is unstable.
Right now I am testing at 445x8 so far orthos stable 30 min and counting as I type this. Once I get cpu stable then I will tighten ram as I think this ram can do a lot. Maybe I will try more then 1:1 as I have read people taking it over 1100 but we shall see. I think I would rather have really tight timings on 1:1 then looser timings at higher freq.
Heres my main problem. The PWM's are really hot. My temps at load are hovering at 120C according to Uguru. Thats the middle ones, the ones on the edges are 20C cooler. I don't think I made a good choice with the Copper sinks. If I wasn't lazy I would add a fan to them but there lies the problem with the Titan Amanda. Anytime you need to remove it, its like re-building your entire system as the Mother board has to come off the tray :(
I have a Silverstone TJ09 case with 2 fans as exhaust at the top. I may turn the one closest to the mosfets around and see if that helps even though its not exactly right on them. When I get a stable OC I will post some screens :)
Well reversing the 120 fan at the top did some good. The load temps for the 3 middle PWMs went down 10c-12c to 110C-108c and the outer two to 85C. Still not good and probably limiting me but o well.
I also just ordered a 40mm and 60mm fan from newegg. I will find a way to get one of them on or near the PWM sinks :)
i dont know why it allways like this but i cant find info on how to make my usb drive to a bootable dirve so that i can flash to the newest bios. anybody know how to i mean who have disks nowwadasy hehe
Finally got my TR Ultra-120 Extreme in for my QX6700, and so I'm getting around to overclockign and installing. I recall reading a conversation regarding turning down fan speed if you use regular fans and don't plug it into the CPU (which is a four-pin pwm connector). I looked through the bios but can't seem to find this. Is it hidden or do I need uguru/speedfan or similar installed?
Also, in everyone's opinion which is the best temp monitor while in Vista?
I get different temp readings when using latest Uguru in Vista and Core Temp 0.95. Uguru reports always about 10C cooler then Core Temp. Don't know which is accurate. Anybody know which is the more accurate reading?
I hope uguru, but I doubt that. I have a 10c difference as well.
O well I decided I could not live with those pwm temps even if I was orthos stable at 503x7 on my 6700. 120c and it sometimes got to 127c which is beyond the 120 limit so I took it all apart and removed the amanda and will start over.
I noticed that those adhesive pads stink. The BGA sinks had moved some and the middle 2 pwms were peeking out just a little. No wonder the high temps! First I removed the thermal pads on the BGA sinks. I then used a good deal of Artic Alumina Adhesive to secure them with good contact on those little pain in the ass PWMs. Then I secured a 60mm vantec stealth fan on top blowing on the sinks. Thats as far as I got tonight. Probably won't have it all back and running till Saterday or Sunday. One new thing I will try is the Amanda Titan Nano Grease for the CPU. I just noticed in the aircooling thread that it got rated higher then AS5. I am curious to see how it performs.
Hi everybody!
Only uguru can changing fsb? Because I would like test with win2003 and uguru not working? Nothing other way? Somebody tried new setfsb??
Thx
yes
tryed several versions of set fsb and clockgen
try clearing cmos and see if uguru works after that
i have to do that on a regular bases to keep uguru working.....:slapass:
if i mess to much with my board it starts tripping....giving wrong alarms and freezing the sistem .....even without messing with fsb...the simple change for the fan control is enough to crash my sistem
Ive been saying that about the pad on the heatsink that it sucks , i removed mine and i never go higher than 50 at any fsb , im gonna stick a tiny fan (NB kind) forgot the MM cause i can t put any other size cause space issues the tuniq tower and rear fan case are prett close and nothing can be squezze in between unless is a little NB fan (i know cooler master make one) i put that one and see if i can get those temps even lower than 50
Well here is what I have gotten so far. With the Swiftech BGA sinks now firmly attached with artic alumina adhesive and the Vantec stealth epoxied over the eSata port so it hangs over the sinks my temps are 57C on the outer two at load and 60C for the inner three. I tried that Titan nano grease on the CPU that got the higher rating then the AS5 in the review posted in the WC section but it did me no good. Its just so hard to work with that it makes it very hard to properly put it on. My load temps with it went up 5-6C. So I put back good old AS5 and my temps are now 63C load running orthos blend @1.495 vcore in vista at 510x7 (3570) So not bad...I think I have more headroom now so I will see how high I can take this 6700 :)
can someone post a pic of all this PWM stuff and what to remove and where to put BGA sinks cause i will need to do this thx i appreciate it alot doods.
looks great, lets see some benchmarks!
I did it like this instead:
http://www.loppmarknader.nu/quadgt/PICT3608.JPG
In that pic you could also see that the board is a little bit bent. I have fixed that now.
EDIT: The reason I did like that was that I wanted another cooler on the NB. The cooler on PWM seems ok if the board is flat and you have some kind of airflow to it (in my case the CPU-fan blow a little on it)
OK, but how did you turn it without destroing it? o.O
Very slow and gentle. ;) Maybe it is even easier with some heat?
Hmmz I guess mine it's better "soldered" there. :(
i get this mobo today and i have to say that i like it a lot:fact: .I can bench spi32m 100mhz higher at the same voltage as on commando:woot:
spi32m@3900mhz(1.59v) 488x8 on air
http://shrani.si/thumbs/32m12mzp5l.png
BTW: Is there already any way to use strap 1333 on this mobo??
hi all,
today i decided to update to the latest beta bios (cause of some important fixes), but it failed! now my system locks up everytime i boot.. error code on the display is C1. is there any way to recover the bios??
whats the deal with all the Bios flashing problems, Im scared to flash now, but with the current bios I cannot do any thing. Every time I boot to cd the system reboots, I was told I needed a PS2 keybaord, but all i can find is a ps2/usb adapter which won't get picked up. I was just going to flash in windows and take the risk, but I cannot install. This board is angering me.
I just updated to v1.1 with FlashMenu and went well. :p:
I've flashed the board many times and no problems at all
Some Screens 500 FSB
http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/3...fsb2dn2.th.jpg
next I will try for lower mem timings and lower voltages
Did u use Flashmenu? if u did thats why, cant update beta bios using flashmeu, it says ont he intructions that come with beta bios, USE A FLOPPY NEXT TIME , i only had that problem cause i use flashmenu once with a beta bios and intructions said so not use flashmenu but i did like a retard,
try this if it doesnt work order a new bios chip from ABIT , is 15 dollars http://pages.sbcglobal.net/jefn/bootblock.html
8+ hours Orthos blend @ 500FSB in vista32
Too bad abit don't add sub timings. I can do 5-5-4-12 @1000mhz 2.2V no problem. I would go higher then 1100mhz and loosen those timings though if I could. I am sure this memory can handle it. At this strap though the next speed I can choose in bios is 1250mhz but without subtimings, and an increase probably to >2.3V I won't get the chance.
I have tested this OCZ to 1175 stable at higher multi and lower FSB...We need Subtimings! :)
http://img463.imageshack.us/img463/3...fsb2dn2.th.jpg
whoho!
I managed to save my board from a bad bios flash.
the boot screen when my board was screewed showed
-------------------------------------------------------
award bootblock bios v1.0
Copyrigth (c) 2000, Award software Inc.
Bios rom checksum error
Detecting floppy drive a media...
drive A error. system halt
------------------------------------
I had no floppy drive so i thought that i was screwed but when i decided to send it away for rma i found a floppy drive at home and then the boot secuence(sp) went on and i was able to boot from the old win me boot disk and then i inserted another floppydisk with the awardflash and the same 1.1 biosfile and reflashed.
yay!! no need for new board...
edit: does the board clock higher on the mem side now or is pointless to try over 1040mhz on memories even with this 1.1 bios.
runnin ballistix 6400 that can do 500 at stock with cas 5 havent tired more but im very tempted to buy the new ballistix 8500 series or maybe its better sticking with what i already own.?
korby is correct about the coolers. ;)
Well, I bent my pipes a little also but not that much. I guess you do not need to turn the NB-cooler as much as I did. I only needed to move it that far because of my Ninja on the CPU. :( Thinking about it right now maybe I should hav bent it a bit closer to the GFX instead?
pillo-kun, nice boot block save! i take it you have a spare pci video card? requirements are pci video, ps2 keyboard, floppy, right?
This one is stuck, I can't bent it. :(
blossa, what do you think. Does the Noctua NC-U6 worth more then TR HR 05? Mostly for fanless use. :)
my result with this board after a few hour working !

http://forum.amtech.com.vn/attachmen...1&d=1178595675
nice friggin result!! image doesnt work unless youre a member of amtech and logged in. could you post on imageshack or something
what is FlashMenu?
and if this board won't boot to a floppy, how else can i upgrade the BIOS? anyway to use a jump drive?
hmm, my quad gt acts kinda strange...
400mhz work with stock volts, for 423 i need 1.55vmch and 1.4vtt, but 445 is a no go. :(
u guys got any advice for me? im on aircooling but i think 450mhz should be no problem, right?
try using single stick single channel
try bumping vichio to 1.6
