DFI NF4 smoking&burning

Yesterday I got my new PSU...a Seasonic 600W I put it in my system and it works perfectly for about 10 hours. I ran prime for about 1 hour when I came to look if it is still running...The system has rebooted and I have written the password for loging in windows as usual. After hit the enter button my comp started smoking and a I saw a fire in the case....have disconnected the power cable and opened the case...I saw 2 capacitors burned out :slapass: :slapass: :slapass: This is my 3rd DFI NF4 in 6 months and have send all the 3 to RMA...I gave up... :rolleyes: I just hope that the CPU, RAM and graphic aren`t gone.. :( ...keep your fingers crossed guys. I had enough of sending MOBO`s in RMA...which one should I get...that has 4V for ram and 1.55V+ for CPU? :confused:

3rd damn,DFI most look at the quality.
The new Asus board looks nice,but i dont know if it give 4V to the ram,look in the Ben`s thread for learn more about the board

I already gave up on dfi nf4 ultra with opt 170 at 2.8ghz with 1.5bios vcore I get like fry temps for pwm, with addition of active cooling temps stay around 60C. I am done with active cooling too time too switch to new asus board even though it pricy and lack vdimm over 3.2v it still might be better choice for me.

guge thx for the tip...I will look for the Asus one...The review was AB.0 I think...I realy need the 4V on VDIMM cause have the Redline ram...

How much vdimm are you giving for stock 250 for redline. I tried with my redline 4000 250 and they did that speed with tight timings at 3.2v on dfi so far. I wonder if I will able to do same speeds on asus.

On 3.2V I can get windows and Memtest stable till 258mhz...but I`m not sure...at 3,3V I can get to 263mhz...3,4V...267mhz...

So which one to buy now?...an DFI SLI-DR Expert or ASUS A8N32 SLI...with an Booster for ram VDIMM...? Help me to chose the wright one...for best OC and stability...and affidability...

Do you raise the Vcore while you're running the RAM in 3.2-4V area? If no, you could be in this situation ...

If it's the case DFI could write a warning somewhere, since some people lost their FX-57 with this issue :slobber:

Hi,

I find it very ahrd to believe that 3 good DFI boards fry themselves. (Not implying that you did it but maybe something else is wrong.)

Try www.dfi-street.com if you didnt already know this, there are at least 2 fulltime DFI employees there (angry games & Rgone) who can help you.

Have tried the DFI-street now waiting for some good post...I`ve got the CPU @1.456V and the VDIMM at 3.3V...For one bord I have damaged the NB CPU bot the other two boards have gone by themselves...The first one starst to "sceaming"...and causes a lot of instability issues...then changed for SLI-D...this one was damaged by me :slapass: But the last one...another Ultra-D has fryed out itself...will se if someone from DFI-street has any idea what happend.

Nope I`m sure it wasn`t my fault...2 times as I said...how can the MOBO starts to "screem" I don`t know...but it was...and the MOBO`s are gone...You wouldn`t believe...but I had an 480W tagan...than a 580W tagan...and now a 600W Seasonic...I think that it is not a good idea throwing my at least 130EUR worth PSU in the trashcan... :nono:

Hmmm...will measure the lines on my PSU tomorrow with a multimeter...and will see. The PSU is brand new...it works for about 10-12 hours at most!

Yeah, just jump it with the green and ground wire, and hook up a few HDDs and optical drives to it to see how it performs on load.

Damn, sorry for the bad news. :(

Tell DFI to upgrade you to expert for all the mishaps, wasted time, and wasted money that they caused you! If they don't, ask them to offer you a step-up program of some sort. Isn't it 3 strikes and you're out? TELL THEM!

Same thing happened to me with my old SLI-DR. It took my Athlon 64 4000+ SD with it to. It just sucks that I can't warranty either of them. My mobo is covered with insulation that I can't seem to take off and the CPU is out of warranty since it was OEM. If my new Expert board does this again, I'll be flying up to DFI personally and be handing out free a** whoopings.

You should do it anyways... create a network of complaints list and give a slap for each complaint. :D

Luckily my Ultra-D hasn't KILLED anything yet. Let's hope to God it remains that way cuz I want an Expert sometime soon, and want my parts to last.

My water cooling?...the water cooling is ok and there was no water in the case! And I can run it now and it is ok!...here are some pics of my board...So DFI has respond to RMA...and told me that this kind of situations are not covered by the guarantee...so I can go and buy a new MOBO...which I thik it will not be a DFI :slapass: They said this is an voltage and PSU issue...I have tested my ram for now and it is ok...the CPU and GPU wansn`t tested yet...So here are some pics:

Its threads like these that 'scared' me into buying the new Asus board. I wanted a DFI board becuase of the many people who give it rave reviews for overclockability but for me stability/reliabiliy is equally important. Hope you get a satisfactory outcome to this.

How does your Asus doing?...I`m afraid to go again for a DFI...but I`m also "atracted" by the SLI-DR Expert or even the Crossfire one...but I have to buy it abroad...cause here is not in stock yet. If I would like another brand like Asus I have to buy the OCZ Booster too...cause have the Redline...needs at least 3.3V....
