Thats impossible unless they are on a 45nm process...they can't ramp up production that quickly...

wasnt 32nm process taped out about 2 or 3 months ago ??? so 7 months later would be the good time for low availability launch and decent availability by january .....

Maybe it's just me, but in opinion that article is just rubbish. I thought his analogy with a car manufacturing plant was a little wrong and it seems like the author himself does not really understand the subject that he's trying to explain to others.

We all know launch is for Q1 for months, but it's a good suprise that they will able to send it to press at least before december.

And 32nm ramp will be faster than 65nm and 45nm. Why ?

Easy to understand, Actual fab in dresden was build with 3 nodes techs process. 65/45/32. Like all fabs evrything can work in the last process, but need a lot of work, test and groping. AMD's fab are the best in groping.

All this fab is fully automated. No human move wafers like in intel fabs and other fabs. All system are set up to grop new process, with very little change. If the change increase a bit yield, all the fabs of AMD are updated to the new process in less 24h.

65nm was very crapy process. Was a huge problem for AMD. When they fixed up the 65nm, the 45nm goes well, Phenom II eat less power, and can clock a lot better. It was just a "starting new hardware" problem. Now they don't have so much problem to change the process to a smaller one, that this hardware was set for.

After it's gonna be same problem with 65nm, the new hardware for beyond 32nm will be set for 11nm or something else. the first process will be crapy if they don't have some luck.

But 32nm is here, new architecture is coming, BD cores are prety insane on paper, I hope AMD is gonna take revenge on core 2.

I see old P6 architecture and K7 fight with core 2 and Athlon fights. They are their grand fathers parts, and we all know who won that fight. I hope AMD got enough money in R&D to send us a new monster.

Even though he may be wrong with the launch date for any of the 3 designs,it looks like he indeed talked to some engineers and managers as can be seen in the last paragraph from the last page.

i cant wait. my first amd chip was the fx-60 and ive been rocking that since 06 and i just got a X2 its nice ordered a X6 cant wait for that. ill be in line when the bulldozer comes a plowin

Only you apparently know that Zambezi will launch in Q1 of 2011. The only thing that AMD has said about Zambezi was that it will launch in 2011, which could also mean Q3 of 2011 for example. As for the rest of your comment, I don't believe that those fabs work in the way you're saying.

Nothing spectacular, AMD said their 32 nm was 3 months behind Intel, so I'm not surprised if it will end up like 10 months.
Zambezi must be the single biggest step ever taken by AMD, right? Not talking performance since I don't know anything about it.

also what does it mean for the cpu with build in gpu? smaller computers. like netbooks but smaller?

This is a big problem for me. I mean, how can AMD make our decisions so hard?!!!! Should I buy an X6 now or wait? I have an AM2+ mobo, use an AM3 CPU in it, later get an AM3+ mobo, and then get a Zambezi/Orochi (mid 2011 timeframe). If I get an X6 now and build an entirely new Bulldozer rig in December, I'll just have too much damn processing power sitting idle.

it would be like the intel 1156 that has the IGP on the cpu pad, but since its a real gpu built on a i would expect a much better product.

Zanzabar,Llano IS 32nm SOI highk/mg design(so is BD).

But they are sticking with SOI, Llano is on their 32 nm SOI HKMG process for example.

KNOW you need six cores, and if you do need it then you would have bought it already.:D

Socket C32? That Socket is supposed to be for the yet to be released Opterons based on Lisbon (An slighty improved Istanbul), I don't think that AMD (Or non-overclocking friendly JF-AMD for that matter) would allow their budget and mainstream Desktop platforms to be in the same Sockets than the medium size Servers. A "New Socket" or "Socket FM1" could have suited that article better instead of wronly mentioning Socket C32.

Common sense tells us that Llano should arrive early than Bulldozer, I actually think that it could arrive even before than 2011. It makes a lot of sense that AMD debuts 32nm production with Llano because is mostly a shrink of things that we already know how they work, so they can refine the process before introducing Bulldozer, in the same way of current Intel Roadmaps strategies of "Shrink, New Architecture, Shrink, New Architecture". Bulldozer arriving before Llano makes little to no sense if you consider that.

Llano is supposed to be used on two different Sockets, Socket FS1 (Was on AMD Notebook Roadmaps 2 or 3 years ago), and a new Socket preeventively named FM1 for Desktop. But the C32 statement seems to be totally flawed at best.
