should i get rid of my e6600 when july 22nd comes around?

well my e6600 isn't a great overclocker (can't get 3.2 without going over 1.5v) .. and even if i could get one that overclocked well, i am currently thinking if i should get one that does overclock well (which it may not) or just wait for july 22nd to come around and get a e6850. who knows if it will overclock well or not, but at least by chance it'll be a early batch which does, and it's already clocked at 3GHz which is plenty enough.

with the e6850 though since it's at 1333FSB, would that even work on my abit ab9 quadgt?

the q6600 is also an option, but not really sure if i'll notice any differences. i mostly game and just word process with this computer. which would be the better buy?

You will never be able to tell a difference in your listed day to day apps.

i would just wait for some test result , way too early to say .

i suppose with everyday applications it isn't going to be noticeable. i just thought for the money i spent on this e6600, it would of been great to clock it somewhere in the 3.5/3.6GHz range like most people, or 24/7 on 3.2GHz, but that doesn't seem possible with this batch i got (L707A). only thing i've found orthos stable is 2.8GHz(350x8) at 1.40v. 400 or higher CPU HTT's are just impossible to achieve.

perhaps my money would be spent getting a better video card (although i think my x1900xt is good enough)?

e6800, e6850/6750/6550....waiting for some numbers..

if u got some spare cash lying around and want some more mega hertz.

dont think there is much point changing from an e6600 unless you get a quad, and you'll be lucky to get a kentsfield that does 3.2+on air.

Yes - sell the e6600 and get a q6600 and use it to crunch on our WCG team. Those two extra cores won't make much difference with most apps and games, but they will on DC. :up:

perhaps i'll wait on the q6600 price drop and see if i can get my hands on a g0 step :)

What board and cooling are you using? (cpu/nb/sb)

i have a abit ab9 quadgt
cpu cooling: enzotech ultra-x (idle right now is 25*C (core #1), 21*C (core #2))
nb/sb cooling: stock whatever came on the mobo (the heatsinks) .. but i took them off and applied thermal paste to em.

all the tweaking i've done just an't getting me any stable results of anything even near 3.2GHz (without going over 1.5v).

That is VERY cold for aircooling (if you used TAT to monitor the temp).
The coolest I can get my 6600 idling @ 1.325V (DMM measured) is around 38°C, at 3.2GHz, that is... (Coolermaster GeminII, with scythe infinity, it was around 40°C)
I use SilenX Ixtrema silent fans, like to keep the noice/performance ratio decent...

Could your board be undervolting like hell???
It's hard to believe that a cpu that runs so cold cannot clock high...

i use coretemp & uguru since TAT gives a "error enumerating on demand clock modulation support". as far as undervolting like hell .. i wouldn't say like hell it is .. but it does undervolt .. when i set it to 1.50v, uguru is showing me only 1.48-1.47v. as for right now it's at 1.33-1.34v @ 25*c.
