I'm looking to buy this board once it's up for pre order in the uk.
Could you link me to where you bought it from and do a mini review please?
Thank you.
hehe almost. I ordered from Webhallen 5 euros cheaper :D
Komplett.se is good! But I couldnt find much info about international shipping for both shops.
Read above. Try use price guide Prisjakt
I will do a mini review, I promise
I almost grabbed one last night here in HK

@ $260 a Box ;)
UD7 look good
$260 cheap :D
I'll be getting this for sure UD7 is sexy.
Here's a few shots for your thread for now.

Contact looks good.

Gigabyte opted for a different PWM this time around, possibly to save space?

Previous style for comparison ( don't mind the board it was heavily abused and sent to OC parts heaven )

jesus chew.. that poor mobo.
It's not as bad as you think. Thats conformal after being heated with a 2000 watt heatgun, I had to remove alot of parts to fix another board and wanted to get it done quickly.
IIRC that board died running wprime 1024 over 6.3 gig on thuban with 1.95v, basically enough to kill any board or cpu for that matter. Thats what happens when you mod OCP.
yeah saves 50% space and the new mosfets have higher amperage rating also :)
I just took a quick look at the board on GBT's site.
Is it a digital PWM section? Looks like it may be, judging from the small chip above the CPU socket...
Any further info on those specs? Or maybe a better closeup of that chip... ;)
EDIT: Really like the looks of that board, and the black/charcol color scheme is really classy!
it is necessary chew, it helps take the heat away from SB particularly when you're pumping multiGPU
Yeah, if anything it would probably add more heat to the SB.
OTOH, if you put some active cooling over the PWM/NB it may help keep the SB a little cooler....
Not that I've ever had a problem with SB overheating. :p:
oh maaaaan i'm still recovering from Computex forgive me Sir. We should probably make some thermal pads to warm up the bastard when multiGPU clocking starts and LN2 starts going all over the place :up:
@chew*
is it possible to put 4X 4890's that take up 2 slots?
& would an NHD14 + Ripjaws be compatible, spacewise?
thanks chew*, i have 4x 4890's on hand & i wanted to test all 4 in x-fire :D
BTW here's the NHD14 HSF
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=247472
This is because of the DrMOS solution.

OK so got you covered on the 4 way shots.
I'm assuming that heatsink is popular now? I may just pick one up for clearance/mounting demonstrations on boards.
I got all willy nilly with cards and used a rather diverse variety to show you.

Dimm clearance is a tad tight with card in slot 1.

Dino, this is why I said I'd like to see heatpipe dropped on UD7.
It just looks cleaner and is more appealing visually, least for my taste, everyone has different taste however.

I hear ya mate, would be interesting to have a temp probe on that HS and compare the temps between the boards actually with 3way and 4way setup blasting 3dmark11 hehehe
awesome chew*! many thanks mate for taking the time.
i wonder how crysis would perform with 4x 4890's + an 8 core BD + UD7 - wootx2!!! :D
yeah the Noctua NHD-14 is one of the popular AIR cooling @ the moment.
my 990fxa ud3 is arrived, gonna test my silver arrow which is about large as nd14 :D
^ cool! post some results & peechurs :D
had a play with large capacity ram
16GB RAM running at 892MHz 9-9-9-27-1T
CPU at 4571MHz, NB 3122MHz
Mismatched Corsair Vengeance RAM
8GB 1600C8 + 8GB 1866C9 kits
32M SuperPi

Cant wait for the ud3 to turn up in aus, fits what i need perfectly.
Can we have that wallpaper?:ROTF:
hey man
you can download it here

Just ordered UD7 for me :)
It's because of you dinos ;)
Mid week board should be with me. I think it's time to torture my good old 1090T before Zambezi arrives. Till now I couldn't push it too much due to faulty board intermittently crashing my system. But now it's almost dead and only operating after kicking it every time I want to start computer up, so new mobo can't come sooner!
Love the back ground Dinos, "Bulldoze your way to performance"
Lightman, let me know how you like the board. Newegg still doesn't have it in stock so I ordered Sabertooth.
My UD7 hangs on post code 96 after I installed the OS... pull the hdd and it passes so I get no OS found. I recycled an old HDD, might that be the problem?
Edit: or could this problem be entirely unrelated to the hard disk? What's that code anyway?!
Edit2: Excuses, maybe a some system information would be useful. Athlon x2 245e, 990fxa-ud7, cheapo 1333 ram, 2 hd6990 directly side by side, powered by an ax1200.
post codes should be at the back of manual.....but yeah 96 points to HDD related issues
ok im gonna post pictures of ud3. it looks pretty :) it came with very simple package, cf connector and two sata cables, thats all. Good value I hope :) it looks that NB and mosfet HS have good contacts. now NB heatsink feels a bit loose when I applied mx3 back, now I need strong screws :p .. without fan, temp rises up to 45C at stock, duh! To OC this further, I have time for next wknd (after graduation) I think it is hard to push 955 more than on 790fx, since I dont have thuban. we'll see
some comments about pwm, good enough? chew?
Attachment 116160
Attachment 116161Attachment 116162Attachment 116163Attachment 116164Attachment 116165Attachment 116166
Looks good, the Phases are familiar, looks like they beefed up the phase to the NB.
2200MHz on RAM
i dont have the patience to mess around with ram at high clocks on AMD as it isnt really that important for performance, tight timings with Cas6 is the way to go but yeah the board is capable. I'm sure chew will have some crazy :banana::banana::banana: going on when he gets cranking
http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/7...32msuperpi.jpg
Sure thing!
My board drives me nuts now! Just to post this message I've wasted 20 minutes trying to get it to the windows for long enough to type it!
I suspect cracked trace on PCB.
Tuesday it wont matter anymore :)
Sabertooth looks sweet, I concidered it, but UD7 I can get at the same price + it was in stock (1 board at reseller here in UK!).
chew and dino, thanks for the comments :D
dino, how does look bios development for Ud3, 5, 7? Improvements of Ud7 get carried to Ud3? like for cpu, nb and especially mem? or it is impossible due different volt regulations?
1000th post woohoo :p
hey man yeah most bigger changes, fixes etc tend to be implemented across the board but in terms of OC capability its not a straight forward thing that a bios team normally works on unless there are some obvious deficiencies.
I did a quick 4WAY SLI test with GTX580SOC cards
it's CPU bottlenecked at this point, nothing that LN2 cant fix (soon enough) :)

wow 4 ways
Started working on the boards.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d&goto=newpost
New hdd, same problem. As soon as there's an ubuntu boot sector on the drive the board is stuck at code 96. Pull the drive and it boots to FF to notice that there's no system disk present. I don't get it.
did you try a different HDD controller?
Yup, I was jumping Sata ports and tried different cables. Also changed out graphics cards... Problem is that even if there's something wrong with the OS, the board itself should reach FF regardless. I had ArchLinux running on this machine before so I guess it's some strange board/OS bug now that it is clear the old hdd wasn't the culprit. Now how do I get the boot sector off the drive if it can't be connected to get the box to boot on CD?!
have you tried windows just to see if its an OS issue?
I deleted the mbr to be able to boot (cd booted and then hot plugged the disk). Now with the mbr gone the board still is stuck at 96 with the disk plugged in.
Well it was an OS problem. Installed Ubuntu 10.04.2 and all is well...
I'd be interested to know if other can reproduce this issue. -_-;;
ah ok thanks for chiming in you had me stumped
why do you use linux :p:
Aha!
Well, TBH it was more by coincidence than on purpose but the matter of a fact is that this box is nice!
Anyway board is rock stable, clocks memory well, but not yet sure how well coz I had not much time to play yesterday.
One thing I've noticed is that when using RAID on SATA0 - 3 and 4,5 IDE, spamming DEL key to get to BIOS causes mobo to hang at the end of RAID detection. Keyboard reset doesn't work, only hard reset. When pressing DEL only once at the right moment during POST everything is fine. USB keyboard here (G15 v2).
Also AOD v4 can't get CPU clocks right when clocked in BIOS using HTT. It shows lower than real clocks, CPU-Z and ET6 are not affected.
PS. I like that Turbo Core Boost option in BIOS! Sweet, board is Turbocharging up to 5 cores with it enabled!
PS2. dinos22 can you ask nicely people writing BIOS to include Front Audio AC'97/HD mode in it? Now it is hardcoded to HD Audio and I can't use my headphones together with speakers. THANKS!
hey mate OK i will ask them but it's a bit strange that you want to use headphones AND speakers :s, why is that?
yes i will let them know about USB keyboard, it can be a bit ginger for me too sometimes on steelseries, what i do now is just wait a bit longer before i hit DEL and its ok
I also am baffled by how something that's on a hdd could keep a mainboard from finishing it's POST. It would be interesting to know what was the cause..
Thanks for your input anyway!
It's going to be a headless folder/miner.
I can tell you what i used headphones and speakers to at the same time.
When i played wow i had headphones with mic wich i used for VT, then i had the gamesound and/or music on the speakers.
Amazing, a brand new board that needs a compatibility mode to boot?
Don't get me wrong, it's an superbly stable board (and I really dig that matt black). Can't wait to drop in BD, but as for all new boards the BIOS needs work.
I just got the UD3 and had the same problem booting with AHCI set. Works fine now after i updated to the F3 bios.
AHCI/RAID small issue aside, this board is rock stable!
I was able to match my CHIVF clocks and then add some on top with the same stock CPU voltage and C'n'Q working :)
Turbo of up to 4.2GHz on 5 cores straight from BIOS is sweet as well!
So far my 24/7 setting with C'n'Q enabled is 218x16.5(x19TC), but more is left on tap as I've already ran this setup at 4212MHz TC for 5 hours with one app hang. On my old board I needed 1.5V for 4.2GHz TC on 3 cores.
Other than that BIOS needs some compatibility updates for AOD and ET6 needs rewrite :)
Price war??
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 107€ (154$ or 979SEK)
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 138€ (199$ or 1263SEK)
I say i got them cheap, just waiting for DHL to deliver them, i bought motherboards from Compuland.
EDIT : Prices are fluctuating every 30min so to up and down, now prices are at 108.57€ and 145.25€, so need to keap eye on the prices.
wow 1250 sek for ud5, damn cheap
for same price i bought ud3 :( however i have the mobo now and forget pricewar :D it was a bit surprising for me anyway
You should allways check German computer stores, they sell computer parts quite cheap compared to scandinavian prices and shipping is only 30euros for europe, there are some parts that arent cheaper tough (one is watercooling parts)
You really cannot go wrong with eather one of the boards, specially if youre not going for 3-way SLI/Crossfire since UD3 can do full speed 16x/16x 2-way SLI/Crossfire
yeah right, ud3 is good enough until Fmx sockel
i usually order from germany if I buy things for several hundred euros. If I order one part, often the price equals incl shipping in Sweden compared to Europe.
which mobo have you bought? let me guess, ud5? :D
I bought them bowth, first to upgrade 890X board to Gigabyte 990FX UD3 and get SLI (Dual GTX470) and Gigabyte 990FX UD5 for new pc with Phenom II 1100T and HD6970 Crossfire.
All my i5 SB, i7 SB, i7 S1366, SR-2 and PII machines have got eather crossfire or sli.
How are you guys finding the cpu voltage on the UD3?
Just using software to measure bios set 1.42 and under load it sits at 1.47-1.488. Is this normal for gigabyte?
Coming from the DFI it was rock solid on whatever i set it.
new bios that should address some USB keyboard weirdness if youve experienced it
http://www.mediafire.com/?b9l6jaovdpzdq6l
found my UD3, I hope it's as good as my UD5P but w/ better memory overclocking.
Hi guys IF someone want F5b bios for 990FXA UD5 I can share I have now three days old release, it fix my problem with AMD sata controller :yepp:
UD3 despirately needs new bios.
I think most of the 990FXA-UD3 board have same problems as 990FXA-UD5 so they might just fix UD5 and then verify some of the changes later on in UD3.
I was just about to buy my second 990fxa-ud3... c' mmon Giga, we need those obvious things fixed... what's wrong? they are all mature since my 790fx-ud5p...
I've got the board(UD7), but I don't think I am even gonna take it out of the box until BD gets here! No real reason to put a 955 in a 990FX board.
Well, it probably looks better. That's one reason to put it in your system.
What board are you currently using?
Gb 790fx-ud5p
Skipped Thuban all together!
I think the 990FX board should alow you to run at the same speed with lower volts.
You're probably right. I might go ahead and do it just cause! I'm salivating over this board. If I do, I'll post some results.
Low cost 990FX :p:
990FXA-D3 rev 1.0
My system:
Phenom II X6 1100T
Elixir 8GB/1333
SG 7200.12 250GB SATA2 RAID0
Tagan TG600-U37
TT Frio
http://www.hulashare.com/images/9241...4620398752.jpg
I cannot use cpu voltage 1.500v lower , linx was red error ;)
another problem , I use USB keyboard , It's tarry(stop , cannot boot or enter to bios) often between boot raid rom If I press Delete to entered bios.
I hope new bios to fix this problem.
New beta BIOS fixed USB keyboard problems for my UD7 so I'm sure your board will get same treatment soon :)
You can solve the USB keyboard problem by using PS/2 instead (preferrably with a decent mechanical keyboard that has FNKR)
USB to PS/2 adapter works for me on my USB keyboard.
thank you for your advice
