    New revision nForce4 from DFI

On Computex2005 is saw a picture of a unkown motherboard of DFI, I e-mailed DFI and found out that they planned a new revision nForce4 motherboard's!

    This was my question:
    Hello,

A saw a report of Computex 2005 on a dutch website with a special about DFI, on the website I saw this picture:

Now I kown that this isn't a released motherboard (yet), and by the tekst on the motherboard you can see that the nForce4 chipset is used. Now my question is, will this motherboard be released and if so when(EU, The Netherlands)? And what will be the specifications?

    Yours faithfully,

    ****
    This is what they replyed:
    Dear Sir

Thank you for your interest on our product.

The board shown below are still being refined at moment. the current set schedule is around October launch.
We will make the announcement on our website as soon as the launch schedule is confirmed.

When we launch such product, you will be able to buy it through MyCom shops throughout Nederland.

    Best Regards,
So it looks like they solved the 5V jumper problem, they use the crossfire lay-out and the replaced the Silicon Image 3114 S-ATA controller by a Promise S-ATA300 one!

I thought this is something you all might wanted to know.

Nice to see that there's an extra slot between the two main PCI-e slots for Gfx. This means that there will still be reasonable airflow to the chipset even if the Gfx cards do have stonking big air-HSFs on them

Hmmm, I can't seem to locate the following sockets...

    1) The 4-pin molex power socket

    2) The 4-pin square head "P4" power connector

The standard 24pin power and floppy power connector is easily located but the above two aren't. Less power required for stability perhaps?

There is no 4 pin connector, its 8 pin connector and you would need BTX ready PSU for that board. Other than that, sweet sweet board. The 8 pin connector is that black spot above the 24 pin connector.

the DFI guys must understand we need more space for insulation around the CPU socket
if this is your first night in xtremesystems,
    you have to overclock.

I really like the extra slot between the PCI-E video slots. Will take some time to get used to the new cpu/memory layout though.

The 4 pin molex has changed to a floppy power connector above the top PCI-E slot.

On the current version of the board there are the following power connectors...

    1) Floppy power
    2) ATX 24pin power
    3) 4pin cube "P4" power
    4) 4pin molex power

The new version pictured in the first post appears to have dispensed with 3) and 4) whilst still retaining the other two.

Heatsinks such as the XP90(c) and XP120 would still overhang (but not prevent the use of, just ease of access) the lower two memory slots as it does on the current version of the mobos

Blah. This doesn't mean the DFI first revisions are bad. If you have the know how and get a DFI Ultra-D or SLI up and running tweaked right, it's excellent.

hmmm that board has 1 more heatsinked mosfet... but what is it for? seems like it belongs to the cpu power regulator stuff.. I hope it's better..
The only major turnoff about this board for me are the dimm slots.. how am i going to cool them? Can't put a fan on the left of them coz of the video card, probably can't put a fan on the right of them either. And the Powerstream 520 PSU doesn't have a fan on the underside.

I'm a big fan of the wind tunnel kinda air cooling.. 120mm exhaust 120mm intake, all in one straight line with the cpu&ram. That's not gonna work with the dimms placed like that though

Nice to see 3 PCI slots though, especially with the I-Ram coming out soon now i can put 3 in raid 0 lol

It looks like the PCI-E power plug that came with my neo480 power supply, guess that could be one of the reasons for being able to eliminate the 4 pin molex power connector on the mb.

It seems from all the above posts that everyone is happy about this new revision, I on the other hand am a little annoyed and dissapointd that this is coming out after spending the money I did on my current one not too long ago. DFI seem to have a lot of 'new revisions' come out of same model boards. No other manufacturer seems to do this.

You didn't expect your current hardware to be improved upon in the future?
