[AwardFabrik] SandyBridge 2600K @5589 MHZ - first run air & compressorcooled

...I am still a bit confused why the reviews and NDA was lifted earlier than expected - as everything was reveiled today I just rushed through some benches today...first on air, afterwards on singlestage...cold didn't really help, seemed to be hard to get good RAM-speed under cold (but I have trouble running 2133mhz on air anyway).

    Let's start 1m first:

    5589 MHZ 1m 6.688s (singlestage cooled)

    CPUz Valid @5500 MHZ

    5585 pifast 13.3s

    5500 MHZ wprime32m (singlestage cooled)

Here is some 1m on air:

3D Mark 2001 (full aircooled nothing special!) seems to like SandyBridge

    03 with 465 GTX aircooled

    05 with 465 GTX aircooled

    480 GTX @5588 maybe tomorrow

    regards
    SoF

Mmmm good job! Could you tell us what the real Vcore was? (I read somewhere that cpu-z was not stating the real one as of now ).

What kind of temps were you pulling on the chip and evap on your single stage?

I'm starting to think a weaker single stage, like the OCZ Cryo-Z would be ideal for these things.

I have ~42-44°C read directly on the evap. It fires on with a bit vccsa voltage (~1.05-1.1). it shows 1-2°C in bios after a while with 1.6V+ - boots better after beeing in bios compared to full cold boot. first booting is sometimes a bit hard, after a while it get's easier. having a constant temp is hard for wprime - can' get it running for 1024m 5500 :/ testing 480 gtx now

Nice runs I'm pretty exciting about the massive clockspeed jumps we've been seeing since ~December. I can only hope 6GHz will be eventually reached through max multi + a little bclk magic.

As soon as we see some scaling with cold it shouldn't be a problem - so far my singlestage just helped me getting temps a bit lower under load but the next wall is around 5.6 now. and I had some more trouble with booting

Thanks man! Yeah I think we still need to learn some more things about the bios - it's interesting to know what these little options actually do

start with 50x100 1.4V to see if it is a good chip, 1.6 max under air only single core benches I would recommend

SOF nice runs mate, Do you think watercooling would even be all that useful compare to air on these chips?

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

Nice results right there , seems that the platform clocks pretty well on air .

May I ask what was the room temp at the run ?

If you have a hot chip (Not every Sb seems to be cool) it's definitely helpful to have watercooling.

Maybe chilled wc is best for Sb OC.

Fair nough @rne, From all the screenshots which have been posted here on XS, seems like your more vcore limited rather them temps..

    Thats right.

The increase of internal vPLL just changes the maximum core frequency into another range. Benching there needs higher vcore, so something to keep the lifespan of your cpu accetable is required. And if you need high vcore and have a hot chip, you won't get those frequencies stable with aircooling.
In my view, there is no headroom above if the internal vPLL won't be further increased or some guru will find a way to let the chip scale with cold. Then the best coolingmethod to bench will change.

Somehow it feels "5GHz for everyone" is coming closer and closer... I mean, not everyone has powerful cooling systems, 5GHz on air 24/7 should be possible in a near future

Nice runs... performance seems to be very good in Pi...
So hopefully the cold-scaling and the multi-problem will be fixed in the next days/weeks.
I think the BCLK wall is acceptable with multis up to 65

    Thanks fpr sharing your results

TY! Yeah water will be very helpfull when it comes holding the chip cool past 1.5V in benches like Vantage and wprime1024

RAM CL8 1866 on air no problem, on singlestage gives "63" postcode often. 1600 runs fine but not with good timings - looks like something with the imc (vccsa voltage also seems to be a bit helpfull when having boot issues with a bit under zero). I think anything below DICE is not usefull atm singlestage seems ok - make sure to be prepared for full load on 2600K 4C/8T.

with water and good chips I don't see a problem there

Thanks guys! Yeah 01 is really fun - and if we get like 400 MHZ more together with good RAM clocks it will make an old game shine
