In single card format the 7900's do seem very very slightly ahead, but here in the UK they are $140-$200 more to buy. I could buy some nice other hardware with that money or save it for the next gfx card contest. Ive got a X1900XT and coming from a 7800GTX 256MB the picture quality is much better IMO, yes the fan can be loud when you start to overclock it but ive not seen any 3dmark06 scores to rival it without extra cooling so far.

Honest to God - the Ati image quality is overhyped. YES it's excellent, but Nvidia's is not much worse imho. I've tested both. High Quality in Nvidia with some good aa/af really makes up for it. Quake 4 looks beautiful. I've been testing videocards for so long....and I've seen my fair share of them so I know where to spot the differences. The differences are so small nowadays it's retarded to argue over it. Just my opinion.

For those still LOOKING for benchmarks that show their brand beating the other, and thinking really hard 7900GTX vs X1900XTX, for your consideration:

    Spring 2004: 6800U vs X800XTPE
one better in some benchmarks, other better in others
performance now, in comparison to 7900GTX/X1900XTX:
    7900GTX-------------------------------------------------
    1900XTX-------------------------------------------------
    6800ULT------------
    X800XTP-------------

    get my drift?

    Very good point.

If u really want the nVidia OC'd and don't want to mess with the vmods you can always buy 1 that already is...although I've been reading quite a bit in the past couple days about the pre-OC'd cards having issues with artifacting after about an hour of use...

IMO it's always going to be neck and neck with their flagship cards.

the best bet would be to get an X1900XT instead of the XTX...save a few bucks plus the performance difference is minimal at best...and you can easily overclock an XT to XTX speeds...it's a no brainer for me...

in fact 2 weeks ago I purchased an HIS X1900XT card from Monarch Computer for $525-$50 mail in rebate= $475 total...so that was a good deal...I think the rebate is still going on as well so I would jump on it...Monarch is also offering a $60 mail in rebate for all HIS 1900XTX cards

Wait for Oblivion. The X1900 XTX is the better card for 2006 games.

Quick question, I don't want to jack the thread, but would it be wise to wait for G80 to come out or get a X1900XT now

Have you verified if the RAM on the HIS cards are 1.1ns? I'm thinking about this exact same card.

    The 'BJ11' is 1.1ns

I just started a new thread that should take care of any questions you have on unraveling the coding on the Samsung chips: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=93145

i was going to make a new thread, but i think im gonna "hijack" this one instead

im really going mad at deciding which one is better... the same old fight, ATI vs Nvidia, it never end :P
anyway, i just cant decide between the 7900gt, x1900xt... im considering one of these 2 cards (single card config)

most of the 7900gts on newegg are at around $300~320, but they come with 256mb only... maybe it'll make some difference in future games...

the x1900xts have 512mb of ram, and seem to be faster than the 7800gtx, maybe even close to the 7900gtx speed... BUT, the problem is, they cost 449 (sapphire)... and man, thats really a BIG price difference between those cards...

so, what u guys think?? is it really worth to spend $100+ on the x1900xt? (comparing it to the 7900gt which is alot cheaper and i have a very limited amount of $ to spend on a big upgrade im doing, psu+cpu+mobo+ram+vga all at once, so these $100 can make a lot of difference)

    thx

Ok, we got the game and we have 2 boxes here, almost identical except one has the 7900gtx512Superclock and the other has the x1900xtx.

Both systems have new clean winxp pro sp2 installs.

    System 1
    AMD Athlon 64 4000+ Sand Diego (2.4ghz)
    ASUS A8N-SLi Premium
    2GB Corsair XMS Twinx2048-PC-32000c2 (2-3-3-6 1T)
    ATI Radeon X1900XTX (650/775(1550)) - Cat 6.3
    Enermax Noisetaker EG701AX-VE SFMA(24P) 600W
    Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6L300S0 300GB 7200rpm SATA150
Audigy 2 ZS - latest drivers and latest OpenAL driver

    System2
    AMD Athlon 64 4000+ Sand Diego (2.4ghz)
    ASUS A8N32-SLi Deluxe
    2GB Corsair XMS Twinx2048-PC-32000c2 (2-3-3-6 1T)
    EVGA 7900GTX512SC (84.20)
    Seasonic s12-600W
    Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB SATA3.0GB
Audigy 2 - latest drivers and latest OpenAL driver

    Game Settings
Ultra High Settings on both computers
    AA off
    HDR on
    1600x1200

    ATI:
    Cat forced 8xHQ AF
    CatAI-Standard
    Mip High Quality
    Vsync On

    Nvidia:
    HQ mode, all opts. OFF
    App select AF
    Trilinear forced
    ClampOn
    Vsync On

First off Self Shadows looks clunky on both and defaults to off in UHQ game mode.

The game runs faster on the ATI box. By maybe 10-15fps on average depending on the scene. Plus the ATI can use 8xHQAF while the 7900 can't use any forced AF.

It looks good overall on both and is definitely playable on both like this. Inside I get fps of up to 70-80, outdoors it goes at time in to the 20's at worst case.

The 7900 has a harder time keeping the fps up above 30 outside at times.

I have no loyalties, I'm just calling it like I see it. I'm interested on the how the Wed. Nvidia drivers help the 7900.

Hey DILLY, you should clarify that you mean The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
when you say "the game". I know this for a fact though, since this is an
exact copy of AstroCat's (=you?) post here in
The Elder Scrolls Forums > Oblivion > Hardware and Software Issues.
But for others, they may not know.

Others say June or even April - May. Personally I think June 31st (H1-06 that is) sounds about right.
    Note: I mean for announcement.

My situation is that I am heading off for college this fall, so I wan't my rig to be all set and ready to rock, because I know I will be broke after I'm there

So if G80 doesn't come out this summer I am going to get a 1900XT or XTX if prices drop by then

I'll give you some hints. PS3 delayed till 2007. Vista delayed till 2007. Some games also delayed till 2007.

If you need/want to play games now, then buy the proper hardware and dont stress out for many months waiting. Worst case, you buy a $300 7900GT or something like that, and 8-12 months down the road sell it for $250.

7900GT and 7600GT have JUST been announced. Trust me, there wont be anything for a good long while since they first have to sell these!

EDIT: also, useless to wait for prices to fall. What, do you think that 7900GT will suddenly compete in price with X1600, or even X300's? Since 7800GTX launched half-year ago, price stayed about the same. By the time they have price drops on X1900's there will already be next-gen cards out that you will want to buy instead.... its a long wait you know./
