I was told to use this silicone/silicate oil: Fluisil S 55 K; Butylpolysilicat. This oil is approved in 3 stage cascades with R14. But no HVAC shop here in Austria knows this oil. So I don't know where to get it.
One litre of it costs about 250€.

You could prob put two oil seperators in series, that may help.
I like building Vapor phase coolers......

Yes that might be an option.
Here are some pics of the brazed and insulated plate heatexchangers. Tomorrow they get an armaflex layer.
PM chilly for advice
the plate hxs look very funny with all the k-type probes.
it´s time to mark the probes to be in the know
is it necessary to solder the tubes and the hx with silver rod?
I don't think that the cu/phospor rods stick to the stainless steel, so I would say yes you need silver rods.
I think those henry oil seps use the very low gas speed to seperate the oil from the gas. If I had a go with r14 I would make my own oil sep with a real filter inside. like this: http://www.overcooling.nl/images/IMG_0487.jpg
here is what i found about this oilOriginally Posted by cold_ice

i was told from my HVAC shop to go talk with the chemical department of shell (petrol company) to help me find what oil i need.
if this is your first night in xtremesystems,
you have to overclock.
Can you contact me if you have more info on the oil esdee?
I will try the Henry first, and if it doesn't work I'll look for another, or I build one myself. Thx for giving me ideas.
it's quite expensive, but Danfoss OUB1 works great for my cascade... i m told by many HVAC shops it's the best i can get. works great for my ethylane cascade, although i don't know if anything will change with R14.Originally Posted by cold_ice

wow, I should really move to AustriaOriginally Posted by cold_ice
The real refrigerant plate HX from SWEP cost 150€ here, mine are not from SWEP but they are rated for -200° and for 30bar. So they should be good for a cascade.
Wow... looking awesome.
really nice price and smalll size!!! waiting for tempsOriginally Posted by cold_ice

is this the 1st or 2nd 4 stage on the board? I think chilly tried one awhile back with an argon 4th stage. Well good on ya for trying it!
I say just troubleshoot 1 stage at a time.. but thats in an ideal world and it always ends up being difficult to tune
I don't know if this is the first 4 stage.
I will have some time to work at the weekend, during the week im busy.
