    GPU stress testing....

I was going to post this in Otis's gpu overclocking help thread, because when I first saw that thread title, I thought my question would be answered in that thread....but it's more of a log of what people are getting for results.

So, what do you guys use to stress test your gpu's to call your overclock stable enough for WCG? And, at what resolution?

I ask because I've run furmark, and some msi kombuster....but at the 1680x1050 native resolution of the monitor that's attached to my crunchers. I don't seem to get any errors/freezes but, I have gotten some errors and invalids on WCG. I bumped the gpu clock down a few but,....I'm just curious what you guys do.

I can't help much. I loaded afterburner. upped the power slider to 120%, upped the overclock to max available (1100) with voltage maxed too and let it run.

switched to GPU Tweak and did the same but here the voltage available was lower and there was the choice of leaving it linked which I did.

Setting now using those settings but using afterburner. No errors or invalids. If I could unlock to get a higher clock I feel this card would do it but from a longevity point of view this is good as is.

Don't see the point of using furmark as it is a totally different animal

    card is an Asus HD7950-DC2T-3GD5

I've crunched a number of different GPU projets and I will say that none of them stress your GPU in quite the same way so I concluded that there are really no generic stress tests that will give you a good picture of what your card is capable of on any given project. That being said, what I do is start at stock and then work my way up fairly slowly, checking results at each step of the way. Some projects will error a WU outright, sometimes it will jusy reset your driver to stock, and then you have the most difficult to find (like HCC) is that it is only after you get mismatched results from another cruncher and it is checked by a third that you find your "Invalid".

More simply put ... bump, check, bump, check, bump check until your card has no more valid bumps left.

I run Unigine Heaven to make sure there are no artifacts and nothing crashes, noting temps and volts in HWiNFO64. It will stress way more than HCC GPU, but at that's a good thing I think cuz whatever my max ends up being in Heaven, it is sure to be stable in HCC GPU.

Currently @ 1100/1250, and plan to go higher!

    That's my theory anyways

    SnowCrash,

Looks like you need: "To overclock 7850's past 1050MHz you need ASUS GPU Tool (works with any manufacturer)." Follow this link and skip to post # 11 http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=18389760

Volts still @ 1.093 when running 900 on that Windforce 3? Check your ASIC score with GPU-Z. I'm betting its a low one (5x% or so) and that you also have BIOS F2. GB has been binning low ASIC chips for their recent version to make sure they could do 900/1000 boost. Should get 1000 on the core with no issues with +10% on the Power in CCC.

its at ~1,065mv. what does asic stand for btw? so basically if i up volts ~0,03mv i am fine again to run 1100mhz or do i have a ty chip?

Edit: probably was the volts. ratio of invalids:valids changed from 1:2-2,5 to 1/15 or better. i am going to let it run over the week end and see what happens.
