    Sparky,

I ran into the exact same problem you did after adding the above app_info.xml from above post # 18.

The first download after adding the app_info.xml file and restrating the WCG software was perfect. The three remaining HCC WUs stayed and 97 new ATI WUs were downloaded & processed successfully. Following completion of the 97 WUs the program started working on the 3 old WUs. No new ATI WUs were auto requested. A manual attempt to download new WUs did not download any new ATI WUs. Shutting down the software and restarting it with the modded app_info.xml file still in it only yielded more old HCC WUs with no new ATI WUs.

I then removed the app_info.xml file and restarted the WCG software. I am now Back to two ATI WUs and 6 GPU WUs. Like you I am going to try to process the backlog of GPU WUs and then retry the app_info.xml file installation again.

Questions for OldChaps and the Gang:

1- The app_info thread list 3 versions of the app_info.xml file.

    A- GPU only
    B- GPU + GFAM
    C- GPU + HCC

Which Version is the app_info.xml file located in thread # 18 above?
Should we be using GPU only?
Do we need to amend our preference on the WCG web site to restrict the download & processing to HCC ATI WUs only?

    Your assistance is much appreciated,
    Jean-Guy

    Sparky,
If you look at the log it will probably complain about some missing files, or an inconsistent state or some other noise.
It seems like if your machine gets a WU from the WCG site that is not in your app_info, it will keep trying to send it and not send you any more. (Can anyone confirm?)
I'm working on getting all the info for all the projects (for Win64 anyway) so that you should, in theory, be able to run any of the projects and control what the bulk of your tasks are using profiles on the WCG site. Assuming you want to run CPU units at least. So you can just connect a client, change the profile on the WCG site, let it grab some WU, and drop in the app_info and be all set.

Edit: I forgot to refresh the page. jeanguy, if you remove the app_info, tell it not to get anymore work, abort the handful you don't want, and put it back it should start grabbing more.

Yeah, it was complaining about not finding x project in the app info and stuff like that. So I figure fine, I'll just let it crunch through its remaining list, the PC is now on a HCC-only profile so all the units it is downloading now are HCC, so once the others are done I should be able to put the app_info back in and it remain happy.

I wasn't sure what my GPU could handle clocks-wise, so I just cranked it from 800 to 900. No errors yet. I figure since a lot of 7950 cards are coming with 880 out of the box anyway 900 should be a non-issue.

    Sparky,

Thanks for quick reply. I will try what you said and report back.

How should I set my device profile on the WCG website if I am only to do ATI HCC WUs? I have now modified it to HCC Wus only. Is this OK?

    Thanks,
    Jean-Guy

The main issue with app_info is people are missing a step.

All work must be completed or aborted and sent back to the servers before putting app_info in place. Otherwise you get lost WU errors and the servers don't want to send you anymore WU's.

I checked my list this morning and all that was left was HCC in my queue. I put the app_info back in and fired BOINC back up, and the logs had no more complaints in them at all.

This is the correct way to do it. The app_info file needs to "see" the tasks so it can get the executable info from them. Adding the app_info should not cause the tasks you already have in cache to be aborted.

That one is HCC for gpu plus HCC for cpu

To run just GPU or to run cpu too is a matter for testing the hardware you are running. Keep adding gpu threads and watching to see the change in output. When that change in output is less than what you can achieve running a cpu thread then stop. You may find that your gpu has a limit too.

Mine is set for HCC and GFAM on the preference page and with the right app_info I get HCC for GPU and GFAM for CPU

    I'd say it's the case. I believe Jan/Feb if I'm not mistaken.

I wonder how (2) 7950s would run in a 2600k rig running 2 instances of BOINC with 8 WU's for each card???

The rumored compute performance for the 8970 is 1.2x that of the 7970. Currently 7970s are at around $400, and on release 8970s will be at least $500 if not $550. The 7900 series is still the way to go even knowing the new gen is coming around the corner.

Gigabyte has a BIOS on their site for my card that goes up to 1.25 VDDC on the core.
That would make it easy to OC in Overdrive to 1150-1200 core and 1500+ mem, even though I wouldn't bother with mem.

    Wonder what temps would be

    Anyone here running a 3930k + 7950 setup?

Just wondering how that setup would handle 2x7950 running 8 WUs each

    3770K @4.8 + MVG mem@2000 + ASUS HD7950-DC2T-3GD5 @ 1100 is running 10 GPU threads at 97% and on a small monitor (1024 x 768) I can still watch youtube with no stutter

This maybe equates to 15 threads on a 3930K so I would say go for it!

This is what will give you 10 on a 8 thread CPU, right?
