OK ... here's how to run non HCC CPU and HCC GPU ... pretty easy and only takes minimal manual intervention.

WCG website: Check the projects you want to run and Uncheck HCC and up your cache to 5 days
BOINC MGR: Keep clicking "Update" until cache is full.
WCG website: Turn cache down to .75, check HCC and GPU
BOINC MGR: Click Update ... you should see in the event log that BOINC is requesting new tasks for GPU (and not CPU) so you should get HCC GPU tasks only.

Wait 4 days and then rinse and repeat. If you make your initial CPU cache larger you will need to run this cycle less often.

7850s are getting a price drop again. Here is a link to the article. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6357/a...0-prices-again

Keep your eye on prices as they start to fall. I've noticed a few settling around the new price so far. I'm very tempted to replace my GTX 570 due to the much lower power consumption and similar performance.

How do the points for these look compared to the cpu version?

How do they look? My friend, that may turn out to be the funniest question of the year..
Here, let me explain: Now unless my math is off as I did this last night late on my BEAST with 16 cores/32 threads JUST that one thread with the GPU looks to produce app 84,000 WCG PPD while the whole damned machine on all cpu will do app 138,000 WCG PPD..
Now, what do you think of those apples and remember, for a GPU I have a GTX460 and thats close to the bottom of the vid card list that will run on this project..
Now, what was that question again?

Just got in from work and did a quick calc on my 5870 which is running around 10 wu's an hour ( it shows 106 completed wu's in a 10 hour period) at an average of 32.75 points each.

Projecting that over a 24 hour period gives me 8332 ppd.

Sure, it is early days yet and this is a somewhat ball park figure but for a 5870 at stock speeds on a q6600 rig @3.2 it may give everyone a rough idea of what to expect from this one at least.

We have a lot of work to do with this. I for one am interested to see how much difference to runtime cpu speed has bearing in mind we all see that period at the end of a wu where it seems to stop gpu and finish on cpu.

Screen seems more laggy than I remember when doing betas

Processor time as reported in stats is of no relevance hence me reporting what this rig did so far.

For some reason all the GPU WU's end with a computation error right after they start.

That is on Win7 64 bit with an ATI5850 and Boinc 7.0.28

    Holy f..
I need to fire up my ATI cards and go get some more, now how about four 7990's on the SR-2 rig and yes it'll work. Tried four 590's on one SR-2 rig doing F@H and it worked.

If your numbers are right then mine are way off( It was very late) because your 7870 has to do better than my 460GTX

Well, I'm being conservative in saying 2.1 min/WU run.
    So 60 min divided by 2.1 = 28.57 WU/HR
    28 WU x 24HR = 672 WU
    672 WU x 33.2 Pts = 22310 Pts

    No??

PS: Now, the 7870 is temporarily in my E7500 machine...not my 2600k.

Do you have the "AMD APP SDK" loaded from the Catalyst driver set? Not having it installed errored out with a 135 code.

    Thanks for the update!

I have my 7850 at home up and running this and my GTX560 at work as well.

Contemplating kicking my HTPC back into gear with its GTX670...

I still think they should differentiate points between GPU and CPU's. Not really a fair comparison.
