We can estimate Pitcairn's performance level by looking at Cape Verde CF results.

    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/H...ssFire/22.html

So 7850 will be slightly above 6870 and 7870 will beat 6970 in 1920x1200 (because in higher res Cape Verde is VRAM limited)

Not bad if price will be well calculated.

I think you can safely assume it won't.

I agree with you. Hopefully Keppler will kick AMD's greedy ass.

Just a note, does anyone remember when it was amazing that we passed 1TFLOP on a card? Lmao.

These are no doubt best case scores. So basically it's a replacement for Cayman. Hopefully they'll price at 570 level or lower.

So maybe I am missing something, but if the graphs are correct, the a HD7870 will be close to a GTX580 performance. That seems odd considering the HD7950 is on par with a GTX580 in performance. I could see the HD7870 being on par with a GTX570, but not a GTX580 just based on the HD7970/7950 performance numbers.

Forget gtx 570 performance, 40% performance improvement over a gtx 570 means it is 7970 speed. LOL. Which doesn't make sense. The fudge factor is ridiculous.

Yeah that "average" line is BS. I mean it can be true but only if you push the vram limit (like they intentionally did to show you that 1.25GB of vram is not enough). Anyway, both cards DO HAVE impressive performance and power characteristics. 7870 especially, coming just a little behind 7950. What won't be impressive(I'm afraid) is the price... This is why we need Kepler to come close to 7970 and push down the prices. 7870's level of performance and feature set with good price is just unbeatable value.

    Forget those "average perfomance" slides.
Importan stuff is that HD7870 is only 2% slower than HD7950 in BF3, which is probably the best perfomance indicator in games now.
If its going to be over 15% cheaper, than HD7950. It will sell like mad.
Probably the perf per watt king as well.

Its vram limited scenario. Very much possible, but it would not be playable and 7970 would be a hell of a lot faster in same cases.

Just as a quick FYI, if you look closely, the chart above is a mashup of different settings, all of which are specifically meant to showcase the supposed 2GB of memory. There isn't one thing to say that either card achieves PLAYABLE framerates at any of those settings, just that they manage to beat the competition.

Makes sense in light of them specifically pointing out memory size differences.

Whether Kepler lives up to the hype or not,one thing must be acknowledged: GCN is a killer uarchitecture.

You need to see Kepler before making fanboy claims though...

VLIW5 vs GCN at same clocks:
    AVP: 0-3%
    Battleforge: 30-50%
    Crysis/Crysis Warhead: 10%
    Dirt3: -1%
    Mafia 2: 15%
    Metro 2033: 20%
The Chronicals of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena: 11%
    Dragon Age 2: -1%
    The Witcher 2: 10%

Battleforge is a great benefit, but since this uarchitecture only OCs about 15% better than VLIW5 40nm cards some games will only see ~15% improvement.
6790 though it has almost 2x the memory bandwidth than 5770 ups the 5770 by about 25% in battleforge and HAWX 2 at 1920x1200, 20% in AVP and 10% in Crysis/Crysis Warhead, Metro 2033, , Civilation V, etc.

GCN looks great compared to VLIW5, VLIW4 not as much. I'm not sure how much the memory bandwidth really has to do with VLIW4's performance with the 6790 though.
    Smile
