Man that naming scheme is confusing.
990FXA-UD3
990FXA-D3
990XA-UD3
What does the U stand for?
Ughhh, the line of AMD motherboards seems to be expanding, that's a good sign. I like the GA-990XA-UD3,shouldn't be too expensive either.
I think U stands for Ultra, and D for Durable, but on the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-D3,it still says Ultra durable on the PCB,shouldn't matter anyway.

No cooling on mosfets.......bad?
Low low budget series, if you need mosfet cooling go with a higher specced model...every buck counts in this segment
Indeed name choices are very confusing...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved
Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree
It means Ultra Durable. The most difference is in the quality of PWM and the cooling of it (also the 2oz copper pcb).
Though the only that looks good is the 990FXA-UD3 a nice budget 990FX (maybe I still prefer the MSI GD65 version). The 990X looks way much better int the ASUS flavour, it has more high end feature making it nearer to 990FX boards. Ah forgetting...still no UEFI on Gigabyte boards...a pity.
Difference between GA990FXA-UD3|GA990FXA-D3|GA990XA-UD3:
Chipset: 990FX|990FX|990X
Dolby home theater: Yes|no|yes
Expansjon slots:1x,16x,1x,4x,16x,pci,4x|1x,16x,1x,4x,16x,pci,4x|1x,16x,1x,pci,8x,pci,4x
eSATA:2|0|2
USB 3:4|2|4
1394 header:Yes|no|yes
1394 backpanel:Yes|no|yes
Thats what i can find from the product comparison.
Also there are ofc some color difference
The UD3s seemes to have "8+2" voltage regualtion while the D3 only have 4+1
The D3 also lack vrm cooling and have a smaller SB heatsink.
