Day 203 -- it's not dead yet.
I have to say that I bought an 830 (my first SSD, and I'm blown away, to say the least) because of Christopher's testing. I know my little 64GB drive won't die because of some random reason, not anytime soon. It won't reach 4.5PB of writes, of course.. but it'll take a beating before saying goodbye. Great drives!
I hope the 840 series are as resilient as the 830s, if I decide to buy another SSD in a year or two... Thanks again guys for this epic thread and source of information. You all deserve a good round of beers
I did test a 64GB 830 -- It went through a lot of PE cycles quickly. It's half as fast as the 256GB, but 1/4th the capacity. In this test it accumulated PE cycles very quickly.
--------------\
UPDATE
The 830 flagged another read failure, I fear we could be coming to the end of the 830's lifespan. The onset of read failures usually predict the end of testing -- the drive will start acting funky after more than a few.

@christopher
The 830 is going to be a tough one to beat.

Hmm... to Vertex 4 512GB or not to Vertex 4 512GB...
Just the sheer density of flash should see some good endurance, I'm not sure I want to pay that electricity bill though...
Yeah I know, I'm just curious how long it will last. Decisions decisions...
I'm not taking any bets on how long the V4 may or may not last

I've included the SanDisk Extreme and the Intel X25-M G1 this time. (next update they are gone)

There are a few drives that needs to be sorted out, the Vertex 4 128GB and the Samsung 830 64GB.
(just point me to the latest post or a short summary for the status in post 1)
Let me know if there's anything I've forgotten!

Hey guys, quick question. What do you think of the health of this drive? SF2282 with Intel Async 25nm NAND. Raw Read Error rate fluctuates from time to time, I've seen it as low as 103. Only 3 retired blocks, and no other obvious issues.
D2C480A1.png
Drive looks fine to me. Only 2 reallocated blocks, which is nothing for the SSD.
As long as the normalised value for raw error rate stays above 50, the drive isn't failing in that test either.
I haven't stopped the 830 in nearly five months, but I'm thinking about pulling it down and running some tests on it before resuming testing.
There are lots of questions I have about its performance after 5PiB. It's already got 5.3million GiB on it.
