    Does anyone have results for 4870x2 + 4870 TRI-FIRE?

    Hello XS,

I'm trying to find any professional reviews on 4870 trifire, but am unable to. Am thinking about picking up an extra 4870 to pair with my X2 and seeing what kinds of gains I can get / how long I can make this ancient setup last. Power usage would be astronomical, even at idle, but no pain no gain.

I've found some benchmarks from users using CAT 9.x which seems a little too old. Gains were mostly in mimimum / average frames.

If any of you happen to have a link bookmarked, or personal experience, if you could share it please.

I ran 4870x2+4870 for a while, and scaling was good enough. Didn't have any more issues with x3 gpus than x2, some fiddling in some games to get proper support, but I guess you are used to that having a x2 already At that time x3 gpus scaled and worked better than x4, but not sure if that still holds any truth.
Would indeed be fun to see how the same setup fairs today, in newer games. But as you said, its a power hungry setup even in idle, and its questionable if its a path worth taking today. Guess it comes down to how cheap you can get a 4870.
    Good luck

    I ran a few benches on a 4870X2+4850 setup.

FYI 9.5-9.9 are faster than most of the 10's, and 10.5-10.9 are broken (second GPU does not come out of 2D mode)

Thanks for that. I would be interested to see newer games tested than those old 9.x results that did games like World At War.

I do believe that X3 still scales better than X4 for CFX. Not sure about SLI.

Yes I've battled that bug on my x2... have had to use hotfix driver revisions and the like. What a pain.

I have a similar experience to report. However, at this time, my 4870x2 and 4870 with waterblocks are all sitting in a box in the basement. Oddly enough, I had less trouble overclocking that setup than my current 5970 (damn you screen flicker)

I'm using that setup now and it seems to scale nicely. Couldn't run BFBC2 maxed out with just the X2 so I got the 4870 to trifire. Helped alot and now everything works great.
One note is that I'm still on 10.5 because everything after causes CTD in BFBC2 after just a short time. I've tried every driver (except the very latest) and all have been the same.

Edit: Tried the last drivers and they don't work either! Back to trusty 10.5's!
