Did you search the net in general with the keywords "5850 OCP" ?
I did not find any information of the OCP for 5850, controller is the same as in 5870, but SMD elements around a little bit differently located.

What do you think, if you do both at 5870, will it work?

I wouldn't even think of trying that.
Too much risk involved, and the chances are very slim.

This is very bad, will have to abstain from this modification. What And what about the CAP-MOD? Should it be done?

In most cases it doesn't really help.

My overclocking is better than my english, sorry

there are more complicated mods for the lightning..[VID and vDDCI] and as far as I know they have not been made available to the public yet...AFE should work nicely for you for +1.35v ..no?

Hopefully it's not one of those that really suck, because some pieces suck for real.

Solid caps and Ceramic type caps are great for voltage... but suck hard for filtering ESR. They tend to 'pass on' the noise rather than filter it out. Electrolytic caps are best for these applications. And while the longer leads are there..they dont hurt. I have done temp mods like this before, and once reworked to a perm. solution and shorter leads... I got no gains or improvements... If it is doing something negative, its not on a large enough scale to hurt at all.

can anyone comment on the validity of the pencil mod for non reference 5850's that are not able to be controlled via software? If there is anyone with any experience of doing one then please share ↲↲Cheers

This is a pic of the VR and surrounding area from my card which is a Sapphire non ref, rev 2 5850.

Is there a pencil or hard mod for this config? Software control is obviously not possible with this VR.

    Thanks!

You can hardmod ... FB pin for mod is 6th pin from the left..on the bottom of the IC as shown in the pic. Trace the pin to one of the resistors in the bottom row, using continuity on your volt meter..then measure the resistance value from the resistor to ground. Here is the datasheet for reference. http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datashe.../NCP5395T.html

shhh.. you guys gonna get me in real trouble.. :p

Those are the mods, though, and they are all confirmed needless to say. Have at them, and post your results!! These GPU's have been out for a while now! Good luck and good modding.

vMEM, what is the result of changing to 1.1k? not variable?
Difference between phase OCP and overall?
    vGPU only VID moddable?
