My eyes must be tricking me. 5.5 GHz on average?! Or did you mean 4.5?

€dith: 4.5 seems more reasonable for me, taking the first part of the sentence into account.

920 is the first announced, not sure why but other models will also arrive as D stepping.

Ahh, so this is like a C0>E0 stepping sort of thing.

Too bad I'm probably going to wait until the refresh comes out.

It needs much more than that before I put someone on ignore. It was more meant as an information, it doesn't bother me that much. If he keeps on doing this, it's his choice. Damn, it's hard to express myself in english. I just hope nobody gets me wrong.

Oh boy...another smart allic that's compelled to let verbal diahreah fly out. Do YOU need to write such things? No need to show your personal problems. I'll write praise when it's deserved, and yes, it might just be in every post. Who is "we"?

Edited: BTW I also saw that stupid remark from stargazer. Quite ironic since he earned a spot in my Ignore list long ago...please don't quote him. I don't wanna see his ramblings.

5.5Ghz under the cold stuff. And 5GHz on air for maybe some benching action (1M at least).

New stepping is all nice and great but i really want better mobos for this platform. As of now there are only 2-3 mobos that are worth looking into and they all have some sort of BIOS issue or slot positioning that turns me away...

I don't think Fugger meant 5.5Ghz for a 920. That would have to be 275x20 unless we are talking about Turbo mode and it still would be a big jump in blck, 260x21. On a 965 I could see it since you can adjust the multi, but not on the 920. But we will see. I hope it's true as that would be a heck of a stepping revision.

how are they improved over the C stepping if they're equal to clock for clock performance? and it'll run cooler?

I rewatched FUGGER and DrWho's Video of 5Ghz air cool Core i7 and discovered that the CPU was a Core i7 975 3.33GHz Stepping D0.

Considering Intel's latest roadmap, I think we may see this baby in April or May.

Yeah, if they manage to tweak more clock potential into the 920's we're going to be wanting some boards that can really push the bclock as well.

I wasn't extremely happy with my first 920 chip since it was limited to 3.8ghz with HT on my 2nd 920 does 4ghz with HT on no problem at less voltage than the first chip at 3.8.

New stepping are always nice, bug fixes and more clock potential, win/win.

Yeah, even with the new stepping I don't think we can expect to see more than 210-220 blck average since I believe it's the IMC that is holding us back and too high of a blck may be too much for the IMC to handle.

One thing is for sure, if the 920 starts getting higher clocks I might actually get one over the Q9650. For me though I'm not quite ready for a new motherboard and the Q9650 price drop is really nice!

I finely broke down and ordered a 920 yesterday. If I had a good idea of how long till we see these new chips I would probly return it and wait longer.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

So that is how drwho was able to confirm his oc statement, he required a new i7 stepping that oc'd better

isn't that cheating according to him

Better a new stepping than disabling sensors, don't you agree? Anyway, let's not derail this thread. The DO stepping looks promising, but I'm sticking to s775 for the foreseeable future.

This is the very reason i did not go for the 965, i knew something better was round the corner. i'm hoping for some 4.5G on chilled water for 24/7.
