I have not had this experience with previous core 2 chips. So, am I to understand, as I hope, that the reported temps are largely bogus and that it is safe to proceed based on vCore. Experience tells me that any vCore under about 1.45 is not going to get too hot. After all, if it gets too high the chip will throttle and if the sensor is reporting high it will throttle at a lower temp, no??

Well the radiator air out says 26.5c and coretemp says both cores 29c... don't think I can expect any lower right?
Under Orthos load it doesn't reach above 48 on both cores in the first minute, so it's not exactly a heat monster either
All this @ 1.33v very very impressive this cpu, but then again, judging by the FPO/Batch I already could expect this
    Definitely highly recommended

Ok... Q820A405 from the Egg. 1.2125 VID. this striker II has issues at 1800fsb. Wont run 5 min at 1800 with any multi. 1900 x 9.5 is my initial stable OC for 4513mhz on air. 1.42 in bios 1.47 in windows. Max temp is 80c. I've ran prime 95 for about 30 min so far. Stopped it to get memory benchmarks then re-started for this SS to show load temps. I will tweak more and show more stability tests including 3D soon. Just wanted to get my initial numbers up for those who are watching. I may switch to intel chipset mobo now that ATI has some awesome video cards..... Sorry i strayed a lil lol. bbs with more numbers.

Tekxpert you have an awesome chip!
Jumped the gun too early and got an e8600es but couldn't complain about the price of $249 - lapped it b4 I even tested it, lol!
I know it ain't retail but not a great one yet not a bad one - qhex q814a527 vid 1.1375
Still testing but I think i might settle for this setting as 4.4ghz requires 1.38+vcore on this chip.
Seems to be the same story all over again - ES chips seem to require higher vcore but run cooler - this is on a TRUE aircooled rig =).

I was about to get me one but probably next month but when i saw Q822A435 was the stepping to have i new i had to rush things a bit.

Told the wife i couldn't hold out and just had to break out the wallet one more time.
She already knew it was too late to try to stop me.

Will rebuild my sys tomorrow, new mobo, new cpu and new tubing for my watercooling with new fittings.

    well happens

    Its a 4.5ghz chip anyhow.
    which is good enough speed.
just isnt the one speed increase I was hoping for.

Garrett buddy, thanks for the heads up about that store to get this cpu, it's literally a 5 min drive from my place.

I hope mine will be as good as yours and Chri$ch' , 5GHz on plain water is awesome and something i will aim for.

My sys is completly apart now, part are all over the kitchen table but the board is already in my case with the new golden cpu already on it.

Tomorrow i'm gonna do some plumbing work, do some leak testing and see how my cpu overclocks.

So yours needed 1.54Vcore to do 1M at 5GHz, right?

Exactly, from 4.8 and on it eats volts lol... hope you get your rig up and running soon, I'll leave it at this, I've done 5ghz now, 5ghz club member lol
    I don't recommend 5ghz for 24/7 though
