Assassin´s Creed gets Patch 1.02, kills DX 10.1

Updated: Takes the DirectX 10.1 away

Today, Ubisoft launched a new patch for the PC version of Assasin’s Creed. The patch will fix a couple of bugs in the game, among which the bug where Alt-Tab key combination would crash the game. The patch will also introduce post-effects improvements for cards with DX10.1 support and add support for x64 versions of Windows.

The thing that Ubisoft doesn't really say is that this patch removes the support for DirectX 10.1, and it causes up to 20 percent performance drop for all Radeon 38x0. Since Assasin’s Creed is Nvidia's The Way its Meant to be Played title as per Nvidia's request, the game somehow lost its ability to run better with DirextX 10.1.

It's one thing to choose not to support a feature such as DirectX 10.1 but removing it from the title that obviiously scores better on competitors' cards is immature and despicable, to say the least.

In case you don't own a on 38x0 card, you can download the patch here and the complete list of fixes is as follows:

    - Fixed a rare crash while riding the horse in Kingdom

    - Fixed a corruption of Altair's robe on certain graphics hardware

    - Cursor is now centered when accessing the Map

    - Fixed a few problems with Alt-Tab

    - Fixed a graphical bug in the final fight

    - Fixed a few graphical problems with dead bodies

    - Fixed pixellation with post-FX enabled on certain graphics hardware

    - Fixed a small bug in the DNA Menu that would cause the image to disappear if the arrow was clicked rapidly

    - Fixed some graphical corruption in Present Room with low Level Of Detail

    - Character input is now cancelled if the controller is unplugged while moving

    - Added support for x64 versions of Windows

    - Fixed broken post-effects on DirectX 10.1 enabled cards

As you can see, Ubisoft, a publisher that likes to cow Nvidia for TWIMTBPlayed titles, comments on this issue as "Fixed broken post-effects on DirectX 10.1-enabled cards. " Good job, Nvidia and Ubisoft, for making a really big issue and losing face in front of millions.

This is ridiculous... does Nvidia pay company's to program games like this? And "Fixed broken post-effects on DirectX 10.1 enabled cards" is better translated as (Fixed the game to run crappy on ATI cards because of a nice paycheck from Nvidia)... this makes me sick >.<

Competition for money breeds snakes, Gunter. It will never change. Look at business practices world wide. Absolutely no different.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

Oh please not another scandal thread!! This is old.

Is there any absolutely concrete evidence that this was done to protect nvidia. Do not link unconfirmed info please. I want facts!! Could this have happened? YES! Do we know for sure? NO! And I'm a longtime AMD/ATi guy (with occasional Intel/nvidia builds) so don't go calling me a fanboy.

Seems logical to me: "The way it's meant to be played" GPU's do not support DX10.1 So why should "The way it's meant to be played" games support DX10.1. All Ubi have done is fulfill the promise made by the statement "The way it's meant to be played". Where's the problem there?

Ive not actually seen any framerate and IQ comparisons on Assasins creed between ATI and Nvidia cards. ATI cards may have worked better with the DX10.1 but are less powerful than nVidia cards so you could essentially just run it at the same settings on the nVidia card and acheive equal or higher framerates. Obviously nVidia wouldnt want ATI to be able to say that they are the only company that has a DX10.1 game available, least of all one they sponsor, but that doesnt mean they would force UBi into removing the feature. Its all just speculation and rumours nothing more.

the ati's abosolutely would kill the nvidia cards if they supported dx 10.1 "the way its suppose to be supported." with vista sp1 and dx10.1 the ati's shine...the 3870 would kill the 8800gts if 10.1 was in every game...its a shame that nvidia has enough money for game developers to keep 10.1 off the games.. =/

Don't think so, even before they removed DX10.1 support from AC the 3870 couldn't even outperform a 8800GT let alone a 8800GTS.

thats cuz the tests were not run with sp1 of vista...sp1 and 10.1 boost up 3800 series 20-30%...which would put them ahead
