Is anyone here using a Noctua NH-D14 cooler on their Max Formula or Rampage?

I currently have a Thermalright HR-05 + 80mm fan on the NB to keep it cool. I'm wondering if I'd still have the room to use the HR-05 if I installed the Noctua cooler. Here are some pics.

Hello guys... I want to know if I can upgrade my Rampage Formula BIOS from 0403 to 1001. I make the Maximus / Rampage convertions. I have my doubt because I donīt know 0403 BIOS is a modded BIOS or just the normal BIOS from the Rampage Formula motherboard.

    Thanks.

0403 is an official release from Asus and is rather dated (unless you acquired the BIOS elsewhere). Most likely you won't be able to load any saved profiles from 0403 to 1001 without some problems. I'd recommend writing your BIOS settings down or taking pics of your BIOS screens with a digital camera then print them off. Be sure to set your BIOS back to its defaults before upgrading to a new BIOS.

Links for the latest MF & RF BIOSes need to be added to page 1 of this thread.

NLight95 thanks for the answer. I donīt have any profiles to save. I just want to be sure to make this upgrade.
I ask again: If I change the BIOS version from 0403 to 1001 Im going to have problems??? Is 100% compatible?

I have 1001 currently running on my Max Formula (see sig) which I "converted" to a Rampage. My FSB maxed out at 480 on using the latest MF 1403 BIOS. Switching over the to the RF 1001 BIOS I'm able to easily run 500 FSB and will push it more once my new cooler arrives.

1001 is an official Asus BIOS release. See here:

Thank for your help NLight95!!! I upgrade my BIOS with no problems And right now I testing 400*9 with 1.36v Vcore At least for now my system is stable. Next time I will try 450*9.
I think my problem is my CPU. The VID is 1.225v and the steping is C0 and im going to need many Vcore to get 4GHZ and make my system stable...

It's been a hell of a long time since I posted here, and it looks like i've missed a hell of a lot!

Ok, I'm on an old Bios on my Maximus Formula SE, its been 18 months+ since I last did it and have been running an C2D E6550 2.33ghz succesfully all that time at 3.5ghz! I'll edit this post after a quick reboot to tell you what Bios version i have.

What is the best Bios update currently for my board and what is all this converting to Rampage talk?

EDIT: My current Bios is 0802...

Oops, forgot to say i'm about to get a Q9550, so I am pretty sure I need to upgrade the Bios for it to recognise this processor!

EDIT: Just realised my Signature already has my machine spec in it, with Bios version! Lol. Need to update it slightly though, so will do that now...

Well I haven't heard much about problems with the newer BIOS. I would get the newest for either the MF or RF.

What are the advantages and disadvantages by using a Rampage Formula Bios?
Is anything goin to be lost feature wise with the Bios update?

More to the point, how do I update it to the Rampage Formula Bios, simply the same way as the Maximus Formula update?

So I just update the Bios in exactly the same way as I normally would, to the "Rampage Formula 1001 BIOS" and all will be the same, but with a few more Bios options?

Do I need to do anything, at all, before I update my Bios?

And also, what other updates should I be doing, such as Intel Chipset drivers once I have the Rampage Bios?

EDIT: I just reset my Bios to Default settings, then loaded EZ Flash 2 Bios utility from the boot up, using ALT+F2. Current ROM is MAXIMUS Formula, Ver: 0802 as already mentioned. I tried loading the Rampage Formula Bios into the utility and it came up with "ROM ID in the file is incompatible with existing BIOS!" so what now??

Ok, followed all that precisely, but even that throws up the same message:

"ROM ID in the file is incompatible with existing BIOS!"

Do I need to update to a newer version of the MF Bios before I can get the RF Bios to update?

I think when I didn't it I had trouble with AFUDOS v2.36ES, and had to use the older version v2.29ES. I would say no you don't have to upgrade your MF BIOS because this BIOS Swap method come out long time ago. I would maybe use one of the older RF BIOS listed to do the flash.

Ok, i'll try the older AFUDOS version first. If that doesn't work, i'll try an older RF Bios too... Thanks...

I follow the guide on page 1 a long time ago and I have no problems with the conversion. Use the AFUDOS version that ShawnTRD was talking about. Oneīs you do the conversion you can upgrade your RF BIOS with the ASUS FLASH UTILITY...
I had the 0403 RF BIOS and I changed it to 1001 version. For now is working great

I have ordered my Q9550 today too, so as soon as that arrives, let the fun begin! What OC should I expect from it??

Well 3.5 or more will do me just fine!

However, I now cannot get my E6550 back to 3.5, using the same settings as I had on the MF Bios...

Actually the first series of Maximus and Rampage boards were much better at oc'ing dual cores. The mosfets will "squeal" somewhat and get quite hot when placed under load from an oc'ed quad (they sure did with my Q6600). The later series added additional cooling to the mosfets and I hear they handle quads much better.

My E8500 Wolfdale runs great but has hit a thermal wall with my current cooler.
